The food was good as always but we found that service a bit off - we waited for one last chair which took 3 times of asking before it was provided. My friend and I came here for dinner before going to a show. I was looking at restaurants along our route and Hanjan seemed like a great option. We dined on a Friday around 6pm. The space inside was nice and much bigger than it looked outside. There were a few diners when we got there, but still plenty of seating. We were seated, given the menus, and water (including a jug for the table, which I appreciated). The server told us that when we're ready to order to press the button on the side of the table. I love when restaurants do that. I ordered the Hanip to drink, which is a seasonal tea beverage, a non alcoholic type cocktail. I got the Japchae, which is a bowl of Japchae (glass noodles), beef bulgogi, spinach, carrots, onions with a shitake soy dressing. My friend got a coke and the Donkas, a breaded pork cutlet with a cabbage slaw. It also came with ketchup and bbq sauce on the side. Our food came out very fast; I don't think we waited more than 8 minutes, but our drinks hadn't arrived and the server said they'd be on the way. With our meals they brought out a small side of vegetables that included kimchi, bean spouts, radish (may have been daikon) with this delicious sauce, and mashed potatoes, plus a side of steamed rice. I'm not sure if the veggies and rice were for my meal or my friend's or for the table, but we both enjoyed it. I really liked the radish dish. Our meals were also delicious. My friend's pork cutlet was massive and she said it was really good. I loved the Japchae, it was savoury and comforting. I had been debating about ordering one of the full vegetable dishes like the eggplant or cucumber salad, but the serving sizes are decent and I wasn't hungry. The downside was they forgot about our drinks. I kept waiting and finally partway through our meal I pressed the button and asked about our drinks, and they had completely forgotten. The server (a different one from before) apologized. My friend's coke came out right after that and my drink took a few minutes to make. I do understand things get missed (I've worked in restaurants before), but it also wasn't very busy. So I can't give Hanjan 5-stars because of this but it was still a really meal. In Edmonton for a tournament and wanted some good Korean comfort food. This is definitely the place. Amazing menu. Something for everyone! Pork bone soups, beef beef beef, noodles, rice ....desserts! We came with a pretty large group, and they were able to accommodate us very well. The service was excellent! The most popular dish for the kids was the deep fried pork on rice, for the adults kalbi tang! The one great thing was that they didn't skimp out with rice. The resto is in the middle of a strip mall they were closing early so we had no choice to order take out as I had to try it out! It had over 1000 reviews on the big G ... had to give it a try and I wasn't staying very far. I had their cheese buldak wooow 5********/5 Best dish I had ! The cheese and chicken mixture with rice cakes was out of this world ! A must try when you come here! The grilled pork belly 5/5!!! You can taste the grill and the tender pieces of pork I love the marinade just delicious! Beef Short ribs: 2/5 a little chewy lacked some flavour but still ok.. will skip next time . I booked in advance for a Christmas dinner and Karaoke for 11 of us. We had a table upstairs and it was nice as the other tables weren't close and it wasn't too noisy. They also had a small table at the end which was nice to place our gifts and purses. After ordering our food, it didn't take long to arrive at the table. The food was fresh and hot and the servers were great to bring us hot and cold water jugs and lemon. My Udon noodles were flavourful and had ample beef. There are 2 karaoke rooms beside each other upstairs. Before our scheduled time, we were able to move our items into the room. It could fit 10 and was a little cramped for us all. The ambience made me feel like we were in my parent's basement. There's one couch seating and then the chairs they use in the dining area. The room got quite warm so I would recommend singing with the lights off and opening the door when you're not singing. We spent 2.5 hours doing karaoke and in the last half an hour, there were no occupied tables upstairs. When it was time to pay the bill, they split the karaoke cost and we paid separately from the food. The cost of the room was $30/hour and reasonable split amongst us. I've been here a handful of times, food is classic Korean and consistently delicious with great presentation. So much selection too! I also love the Banchans here. I took a friend here for their first time and she quite enjoyed the atmosphere... it's quite unassuming from the outside at a strip mall, but inside, it's like walking into an an evening street food gathering area. Sitting at a window booth during the day also makes beautiful instagram food photos! The service was friendly and quick, it was very helpful that our server explained everything to my first timer friend- how to get service (press button at table), what the banchans were, etc. There's still so many dishes I want to try, so I will be back! read more

Hanjan has beautiful decor including string lights and brick walls. It has a very spacious interior and private rooms as well. They even have a second floor as well. You can often find this restaurant packed on a busy night. Like most Korean restaurants, they have a buzzer you can push for when you need assistance. The staff is quite friendly though they may not come to your table immediately if its a busy night. Overall. I really enjoy all of their dishes. The spicy pork bone soup and bossam is among my favourite items. You can even get unlimted banchan, which are there Korean side dishes, my favourites are the marinated daikon and the Korean style potato salad. I would highly recommend this restaurant. read more

I ordered takeout from here recently and was quite satisfied with the food. I was craving a Korean stew and the Budae Jjigae (Army Stew) definitely fulfilled that craving. I like how they separated the Ramen from the stew so it wouldn't get soggy. I love spicy stews and this one definitely did not lack flavour. I also ordered their popular Honey Butter Bread and was not disappointed. It came in it's own box and the cinnamon cream came in a separate container so the bread wouldn't get soggy. It tasted the same as if I had dinned in. If you haven't tried this dessert yet, then you're missing out. The crispy honey bread with cold cinnamon cream combination is sooo good. They recently launched their own in house delivery service. You can access it directly from their website and all the funds can go directly to them. Consider using this rather than ordering through skip the dishes or ubereats. I've been to this restaurant a couple of times pre-pandemic and it has a great atmosphere. I've been wanting to try this place out for nearly 3 years and I am glad that I finally got to! I really liked the ambience and set up. The food was incredible! We ordered several different dishes to share off the menu and loved pretty much all of them. It was packed full of flavour. Each dish is shareable amongst 2-4 people. We were a larger group (7) and ended up having to order seconds of almost everything we initially ordered as we realized that the dishes were small if they were to be split between all of us. Desserts are HUGE and can easily be split amongst a few people. The dishes are kind of pricey for what you get and the drinks are equally as expensive. The staff is pretty friendly and helpful. The service on the other hand is pretty slow and unless you hit the call bell on your table, you won't really get checked on. I took away 1 star because some of our cups were dirty and there was dried noodles all over one of the seats at our table. read more

What I love about this restaurant is the laidback vibe and atmosphere. They accommodated our large group of 15. The menu has so many great options and I look for add to trying more again soon. Had ordered pickup from their website - no additional fees! I got my usual order - padak, fries and japchae. Consistent flavor and servings. I really love padak. So full of flavor, inside and out. The cook on the chicken is perfect - crispy skin and tendy, juicy meat which my mom really love because some fried chicken we had from other places are not thoroughly cooked. I ordered a new item today - bulgogi udon. It is ok, i prefer japchae. I noticed i got side dishes this time. Before, i only got the spring onion. No mashed potato, beansprout, kimchi and the other pickled veg. I hope this is consistent on all orders. I went to Hanjan for a friends birthday. I've been here many times and it never disappoints! Hanjan has a very cozy vibe. They hang these globe string lights on the ceiling of the restaurant. Gives the restaurant an almost romantic feel! Great for dates or grabbing some drinks and socializing with family/friends! Due to COVID the restaurant has implemented some changes to their service. All orders are ordered via text and everything has to be ordered at one time and paid on one bill! I ordered bulgogi fries, kimchi fried rice, japchae, beef bulgogi, budae jjigae and watermelon bing su! The bulgogi fries are a must try! It has red onion, green onion, beef and some sort of sweet sauce on the top. It is sooooo good! I'm not sure what they fry their fries in but it's super crispy! Everything was relatively spotless and clean. I found that the customized chalk art on the back panel was a nice addition. The lighting was also quite good and created a very cozy and relaxed mood throughout the restaurant. In particular, the balcony area is interesting and such a good idea -- I would recommend trying it. Overall, the atmosphere was magnificent and I appreciate the attention to detail. My friends and I loved it here. The food was absolutely delicious! I found that the food was great in terms of Korean cuisine. In particular, I enjoyed the Dak Galbi. It was savoury and tasted great with some interesting acidity and heat. The Korean Fried Chicken is also another good option. It was crispy and juicy inside! Their desserts were amazing and definitely something that you must try; in particular, the Honey Toast and Mango Bingsu were SO good. In terms of presentation, Hanjan always delivers with precise attention to detail and arrangement. The price to portion ratio is not the best but the meals definitely satisfy your cravings. Their service was very friendly! The employees are very welcoming and knowledgeable when it comes to the menu. Don't be afraid to ask them questions. We got there about ten minutes to 2pm for a late lunch and she was kind enough to give us the happy hour prices. The server was very friendly and attentive whenever we rang the bell which was embedded in the table booth. It signals the waitress to come to your table and booth for service which was super convenient. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. I would definitely order the bulgogi tacos and Jap Chae again as it was very flavourful. I prefer fried rice Kim chi to have a little bit more flavour and less spice so I probably wouldn't order it again just out of personal preference. My friend enjoyed it though and the spicy level was good for her. The booth provided us a comfortable chatting atmosphere but I could see this place also being a great date night hub. To start, we got the complimentary kimchi, bean sprout salad, fish cakes, and mashed potatoes. I really liked the mashed potatoes, it was different. Bulgogi taco has a sweet sauce on top like a Korean domain with sweet sauce. Bulgogi Fries were delicious. It was covered with small pieces of bulgogi beef, tomatoes, scallions, and their house sauce. Japchae was cooked perfectly and the sauce was a good consistency. I think if they were to address their dirty dishes better, such as cleaned them when I asked a few times or gave me some hot tea to rinse my dishes and utensils lol This would have changed my experience much more but it didn't seem like anyone cared. What really threw me off was when I saw a mucus string of something floating in all of our waters and we haven't even gotten our food yet. read more

Hanjan is another new Korean spot to open up and of course, it's on the south side. It's located right beside Izakaya Tomo so you can't miss it. Sister restaurant to Mama Lee's Kitchen, I've heard pretty mixed reviews but decided to check it out for dessert Sunday night. The inside is hipster but unique, in particular for Edmonton. The umbrella patio sets inside are a cute touch along with the hanging lightbulbs. They did a great job with decor. There's an upstairs with two private rooms for karaoke. The downstairs is even more spacious and has about 5 private booths to sit at. Music is blasting but the playlists were good. Love how Hanjan is open till 2:00am (3:00am on Friday and Saturday!). Finally some legitimate late night hangout spots. It's a cafe during the day, then restaurant/hang out spot at night. Menu is a one pager with tons of choices: starters, shared, rice, deep fried, wokked, grilled, stir fried and stew/soup. - Injeolmi bingsu ($12.00) - this bingsu was the only non-fruity one. Topped with rice cake, red bean, condensed milk, pulse flour and sliced almonds. The shaved ice was silky smooth, creamy and the texture was just spot on. The injeolmi rice cakes tasted like homemade mochi. Satisfyingly good! Will have to come back to try their other options. 3.5 stars. read more

What a difference time makes. My original review was when they first opened and I really didn't enjoy my experience, and now, dare I say, it's one of my favourite Korean places in town? The best value is the lunch combo for 2. For $35 or $40 you get a hearty spread of a bunch of different items and it's delicious. Only available until 3pm. Which sucks if you're working during the week on the other side of town, but is an option on weekends. Other favourites include the army stew, the bulgogi fries and obviously the honey bread. Enjoyed our night out at Hanjan. The decor feels like we were not in Edmonton. The only issue was the karaoke that is upstair. The sound from upstairs is not isolated so you hear all the horrible and amazing people who are singing. They have a service button , which is very nice, but I do notice if you don't press it they wont come. So press the button.... We wanted something light so we ordered tacos, spicy boneless wings, and for dessert ... toast! The taco were pretty good! Definitely tasted the bulgogi flavour, it is more on the sweet side. The spicy boneless chicken wing was very good and hot (temperature). It was pretty spicy after the 2nd piece. The meat was very juicy, we will order this again. I was told the toast was very good here. So we had to try it. It looks like a game cube when it came out, but the toast was pretty delicious... the whip and drizzles added more flavour to the toast. I recommend it if you want to try something different for dessert. Service was pretty slow and they didn't clear our plates away when we finished our meal. Ordered from this location instead of Oliver by mistake and what a disaster! Absolutely tasteless stew - the sauce seemed to be little more than water. To make matters worse, they forgot the rice cakes completely ($5 worth), even after calling my cell to ask where I wanted them (eg on the side). The udon noodle dish had three very measly pieces of chicken and was equally lacking in flavour. The kimchi pancake was delicious and the other items (fried chicken, corn & cheese appetizer) serviceable but the overall the experience was extremely disappointing, especially because the Oliver location is always excellent so I was really looking forward to dinner tonight. read more

Visited Hanjan on a Saturday evening for my birthday. I was super excited because I love Korean food and have heard only good things about this place. And I was not disappointed!! The restaurant its self is beautiful! Has a woodsy but modern feel to it. I love the upstairs portion and the private booths. The service was perfect, especially because they have that awesome call button system where you page the server when you need them instead of them coming on their own discretion. We ordered: Galbi - so good, less sweet & more savoury Japchae - LOVED these Teriyaki chicken - very tasty, the chicken is so moist Sweet + Spicy Fried Chicken - amazing!! crispy batter, moist chicken, delicious sauce Honey Butter Bread - this was fantastic, i highly recommend! it's made fresh in house, it comes out super warm and soft. Their kimchi is also very nice and doesn't have a strong fermented taste to it. I also enjoyed the sprouts. (I'd say you can feed 5 people with this amount of food) All together this costed about 100 bucks!! which i'd like to say is super affordable for the amount of food you get. This place changed my life! My wife, in general, dislikes Korean food. I would almost say 'hates' it but we don't use that word in our house. She is always so unhappy when I suggest Korean and when we have tried it we usually walked out disappointed. Hanjan has changed all that. She enjoyed it so much that she wants to go for Korean again. Thank you Hanjan! As it was our first time here, the waitress spent some time and offered suggestions from the menu. She went through their most popular dishes from appetizers all the way to desserts. In the end we decided on the Lunch Combo 2 which includes Kimchi Jjigae, Dak Galbi, Gamja Croquette, japchae, salad, pa jeon, rice and banchan. You would never go wrong with this selection but know that is is a lot of food. It is probably enough for 3 to 4 people. For the two of us, we took a fair amount home. Everything we had was excellent with the duk galbi and the croquettes being standouts. My wife enjoyed everything except the pa jeon (scallion seafood pancake) which was just too much onion for her. We'll be back. No question. I love the enclosed entrance, the lighting and the side booths. If there is anything amiss it could be that the tables and chairs on the main floor could be nicer. I would be disappointed if all the booths were taken and we were stuck in the middle on a special occasion. At least you know the food will be good not matter where you sit. read more
