Kimchi jjigae, beef bulgogi, chicken cheese bulgogi

This is my aunt's go-to place for Korean food so my husband and I decided to give it a try when we passed by Edmonton. Good decision. Very tasty food! Even my husband who isn't super thrilled with Korean food loved his beef bulgogi. He said it was better than the ones we've eaten in the past. I agreed and had to order another to take home. Service was good too. Thankfully they have a service button which added to the experience. Overall good experience. Will come back again for sure! Washroom was clean too and not gross at all which lowkey really helps if you wanna eat a lot of good food while you're here!

Service was slow due to staffing shortage (cut them slack - it's the pandemic!) but food still great. This time saved room for dessert! What a monster. Enough for four when I ordered the milk ice w matcha ice cream and red bean. Best dessert ever!

Eating local. We used to order Hansik pre-Covid and were delighted to see its open for delivery and take out. So good to have favorites like bibimbap, beef bulgogi, and vegetable pancake. This food is savoury and filling yet light. We picked up, paid with tap, and the staff working physically distanced. We parked outside and they brought the food out and put it in the car.

I had no idea this place even existed even though I drive by the building every day. It can be easy to miss as it is tucked away in a small strip. It was my friends that took me here, as they raced about it and said it was one of the better Korean places in Edmonton. First thing I noticed is that it is a very small space, I was told there are some nights there can be lineups for tables. Luckily this night it was very quiet with about 3 other tables. Also it's cute they have a button you can press for them to come to your table (my friends who were in Korea said this is common there). Sadly since I only know of kimchi and Korean fried chicken, I wasn't familiar with what else to order. So left it up to my friends and their expertise. We ordered Tteokbokki, which looks like pasta but is more a doughy paste. I liked it, especially the spicy sauce which on its own would be great on rice. Pork Bul go gi, it was ok but wish a bit more pork. Kimchi Jeon, korean pancake, this was one of my favorites esp with the sauce, almost tasted like hash browns. Japchae noodles, this didn't blow me away but was ok, only thing was they need to cut up the noodles more. Korean Fried Rice with egg, was ok, nothing great, but if want some rice other than plain to add to the meal, this isn't bad. And finally the go to, Korean fried chicken with sweet and spicy sauce. Only thing was they didn't mix the sauce with the chicken but just had the sauce as a side. Was very good and not greasy and not overly breaded, why I am a big fan of Korean fried chicken. The amount we ordered was just enough for 3 people and we all left full. Price vs quantity is ok for some things. But overall I found the food very good and because I love hot and spicy, lots filled the bill. Edmonton doesn't have many good Korean restaurants according to my friends, but they considered this one of the better ones. I would definitely come back again to try some of the same dishes and to try some new ones.

Ecstatic to have an authentic korean restaurant in the Northside. Along 127th street by Tim Hortons. I've eaten here twice now. And well this is now my go to Korean place ....because it is the only one in the North haha. Very charming decor when you walk in. Like a rustic modern industrial look with framed Korean picutres. Wood and metal. Even the bathrooms match the decor. And then the finish it off K-Pop music. To put you in the mood. I have eaten here for lunch and early dinner. So there is never a lineup and you are seated right away. The menu is plentiful. You get the complimentary pickled sides along with the order. Also when you walk in they have specials written on a chalkboard. My first round we ate the Bibimbap, spicy beef soup and bulgogi jap chae noodles. Every dish was delicious, only feedback is needed more sauce for the bibimbap. My second round we ate blackbean sauce with rice which I was excited to eat because it usually comes with gluten noodles, so this was gluten friendly with rice. And my hubby got the cold noodles. We also ordered the deep fried chicken balls. Which was delicious and very cinnamon tasting (like cinnamon toast crunch). I didn't eat too much cause of the risk of gluten. Lastly we had the gimbap which was a lunch special and you get a can of pop with it. Overall both were satisfying meals. Service was good. Just got to press the button on the table the server was there in a flash. Great authentic korean restaurant in the Northside when you have the korean craving

Being in Edmonton for another couple days for work, it was finally time to catch up with some friends. Upon recommendation from them, we decided to try this Korean restaurant in the north side for dinner. I had passed by this restaurant close to the 137ave/ 127st intersection a few times with its eye-catching color-changing neon sign... so I was definitely curious to try! Atmosphere: 4/5 Definitely creative and quaint decor, especially the swiss cheese ceiling! The restaurant was smaller than I expected but had good flow without being over-packed. I was glad to have made reservations for our bigger group! Generally clean and comfortable; parking available within the mall where it was located. Food: 3.5/5 Since we had a good size group, we were able to try a number of dishes! We ordered: Saeseon-Jeon (fish pancake), japchae, bulgolgi and mushrooms hot pot (stew), pork belly BBQ wrap, sweet and soy sauce fried chicken. As usual, there were also a few tapas that including kimchi, bean sprouts, mushrooms, and rice. For some reason, I had expected a few more types of appetizers. Fish pancake and Japchae were good. The fried chicken had a little too much batter for me, but the sauce was definitely tasty. Pork belly was a little rich. My favorite was probably the hotpot - loved the variety of mushrooms, the inclusion of rice cakes, and bulgolgi is always tasty and filling. Overall, I enjoyed our meal which was quite authentically Korean! For me, some Korean dishes can be a little too fried or strongly flavoured - but that is a personal preference! Price: 3/5 Average for the amount and quality Service: 3.5/5 Overall efficient and friendly; we loved pressing the order button at our table - just like at BBQ restaurants in Korea!! Although by the end it did take a while to get the bill as the restaurant got a little busier. Overall: 3.5/5 Overall good to try this nice Korean restaurant with friends on the north side; I don't go for Korean often but it was a good opportunity to try a variety of dishes and catch up!

Field trip with littles to north-end and stopped for Korean dinner. Simple decor, big menu, and delicious eats. Littles had 'kid' meal of bulgogi with rice, salad, orange slices and juice for $7.90 They loves their smiley cutlery. Started off with traditional Korean date tea. Sweet and hint of spice (cinnamon and maybe ginger?) drink that tasted like a dessert than tea for me. It did complemented well with some of the spicy chogochu-jang sauce. Hubs had their iced coffee, nothing special. We shared pa-jeon (green onion cake with shrimp and squid), japchae (glass noodles with veggies), jjolmyeon (cold noodles with chogochu-jang sauce), and sundubu-jjigae (tofu stew). All had bold and tasty flavours. Dishes with shrimp are cooked with shells on for extra crunch. Korean fried chicken also on the menu. The one time we weren't feeling like KFC. Next time we'll they their deep fried shrimp with sweet and spicy sauce. Haven't seen that on any other Korean resto in YEG yet. If you do let me know. Service was attentive, but slow with only one server working front. Go with friends, order $100 and use 20% off Yelp coupon. Would definitely come back when we're in these neck of the woods

Budae Jjigae

I was super excited to try this place out as it is the first Korean restaurant in the northside of town. When my sister and I arrived, it was pretty busy which was understandable because it was a Friday evening. We were seated and given menus and waited 10-15 minutes to give our order. (TIP: Use the buzzer on the edge of the table when you need assistance) We ordered the Budae Jjigae from the hotpot section which was around $35 with an additional $3 for ramen although it does mention in the menu that it has ramen already so I don't understand why it has to be charged for when it's stated that it is in the dish to begin with. We only ordered one thing to be safe because my sister and I can't really finish our portions. We understood that it was busy and that they only had 2 servers working so we waited patiently but waiting almost 40 minutes for a hotpot that we can cook at our own table is a bit of a turn off. We expected that it would be worth the wait but that was definitely not the case. The flavour was quite plain and the broth became thicker and eventually evaporated even though we turned down the heat. It tasted spicy but that was about it. We wanted to try their bingsoo but we didn't want to wait anymore so we scrapped that order.

Let's face it. Not much Korean eatery in the Northside of Edmonton. Nice little place. Kids called it a cheese roof. Lazy to drive to the Southside so we ate here. Food was ok. But does lack the real Korean food feel. The side dishes like kimchi and moo (pickled radish slices) onions and such normally comes with any order. But it was so no refills were offered. Now to the main course and my favorite pork belly. And Kalbi. Taste was good but holy cow. 3 slices of each, guess the cost? Almost 60.00 for 6 slices of meat. Taste was ok but this restaurant really needs to review its prices. Normal pricing in the Southside is like 5 slices of Kalbi for around 20.00. Pork belly for 4 slices is about 17.00. Also ordered ramen hot pot normally about 23.00, but here is 34.00 and 3.00 for ramen. The servers were nice however. But I can not justify that cost. I hope the best for the restaurant as we need some food restaurants in the north besides burger joints and Donair shops, hope they get the pricing sorted out so they will survive this market.

I'd heard of Hansik or maybe drove past and thought I had - who knows? But we stopped last week and had a bite. Having spent a few days in Seoul, I will not claim to be an expert. But, I do know what to expect and what is the real deal. And this is it. We had a Bibimbap and a Bokkeum. The latter being a stirfry dish and the former coming in a hot stone bowl full of rice, tasty veg and meat and an egg on top. Out standing in both cases. And besides Bibimbap is just fun to say. Bee-Bmm-bap! Portions were generous, service quick and pleasant. Prices overall was well worth it. I'd make the trip back for some Korean fried chicken next time for sure. It's turning into my addiction. Parking is right and it's a small shop, but worth the effort.

Pork Belly. Comes with lettuce, rice, garlic, peppers and sauce. A little pricey for the amount of meat given. $23

Great place for Korean food north side. My favourite is their kimchi pancake and their soups and hotpots are right up my alley. Ordered pork belly the other night and the portion was much smaller than I expected compared to the picture they had and for that price point. About $23 for maybe 5 slices of pork? I love the servers there, very well mannered and good service. Refills on side dishes are a plus.

We love kbbq but it's very expensive here in Edmonton, and there are only two in the city. It's located in an inconspicuous (weird if you ask me) spot, in a neighbourhood in front of a school. Parking wasn't that difficult to get. Upon arriving we waited 10 minutes for our reservation and we got seated. The vibe and atmosphere of this place is very family-run-authentic. The meats are served buffet style and you grab your own drinks from the soda fountain. Sides of lettuce, salad (my personal fave- amazing vinaigrette to cut the meat), kimchi, bean sprouts, etc. There were also a few variety of fried items. My favorite was the shrimp chips. They also have fried rice but no white rice. Which leads me to my next point-- Service: AMAZING!! One of the older ladies saw my boyfriend and I mixing our fried rice and kimchi to make kimchi fried rice. She asked if we wanted some sesame oil and seaweed to put into our fried rice to make it more bokkeum-bap!! She came back with a bottle of sesame oil and mixed it in for us. The only downsides: They put a piece of parchment paper over the grill which kind of absorbs all the juice. The selection of meat is very limited as well. For 2 people not including our alcohol, it came to about $75 for AYCE. Not too bad considering it's the only other kbbq place in town. Will definitely be regulars!

The space inside was nice and much bigger than it looked outside. There were a few diners when we got there, but still plenty of seating. We were seated, given the menus, and water (including a jug for the table, which I appreciated). The server told us that when we're ready to order to press the button on the side of the table. I love when restaurants do that. I ordered the Hanip to drink, which is a seasonal tea beverage, a non alcoholic type cocktail. I got the Japchae, which is a bowl of Japchae (glass noodles), beef bulgogi, spinach, carrots, onions with a shitake soy dressing. My friend got a coke and the Donkas, a breaded pork cutlet with a cabbage slaw. It also came with ketchup and bbq sauce on the side. Our food came out very fast; I don't think we waited more than 8 minutes, but our drinks hadn't arrived and the server said they'd be on the way. With our meals they brought out a small side of vegetables that included kimchi, bean spouts, radish (may have been daikon) with this delicious sauce, and mashed potatoes, plus a side of steamed rice. I'm not sure if the veggies and rice were for my meal or my friend's or for the table, but we both enjoyed it. I really liked the radish dish. Our meals were also delicious. My friend's pork cutlet was massive and she said it was really good. I loved the Japchae, it was savoury and comforting. I had been debating about ordering one of the full vegetable dishes like the eggplant or cucumber salad, but the serving sizes are decent and I wasn't hungry. The downside was they forgot about our drinks. I kept waiting and finally partway through our meal I pressed the button and asked about our drinks, and they had completely forgotten. The server (a different one from before) apologized. My friend's coke came out right after that and my drink took a few minutes to make. I do understand things get missed (I've worked in restaurants before), but it also wasn't very busy. So I can't give Hanjan 5-stars because of this but it was still a really meal. Both my friend and I said we'd go back again.

My boyfriend and I split the Bulgogi Fries and the Padak (Soy Garlic) Korean Fried Chicken. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. After one bite of the Bulgogi Fries, it was an immediate 10/10. The fries were crispy and had the perfect golden crisp + soft inside ratio. And don't even get me started with the sauce on top. The white sauce was light, and had the perfect combination of slightly sweet and savory. It was a wonderful aioli. And the veggies added were so good. The tomatoes and scallions added a nice freshness and slight acidity to the overall dish. Lastly the bulgogi was just *chef's kiss*. I don't really know how else to explain it other than the Bulgogi Fries were a well-balanced dish. We were scooping every single missed vegetable in the sauce after we demolished the fries. The Padak (Soy Garlic) fried chicken was so tasty. Whenever I get wings, my go-to is pretty much anything soy garlic, or anything included garlic. The fried chicken skin was the best part. Great texture, crunchy, crispy, wonderful flavor. It was a great blend of savory, umami, and garlic. And the green onions on top was a great addition. Portion size for both things we ordered was perfect for the two of us. Also, don't even get me started on the banchans. Great kimchi, radish kimchi was so refreshing, and that mashed potato side? Terrific. We asked for more banchan when we were done. Lastly, we came back the very next day to try the desserts. At first, I wanted to pick one dessert to share between me and my boyfriend but it was so difficult to choose one. So we got both lol. We ordered the Injeolmie Waffle, Honey Butter Bread, and tried some of my cousin's Strawberry Bingsu. The Injeolmi Waffle itself was delicious, sweet but not too sweet. The ice cream added that sweetness and the almonds on top were nice. And the Honey Butter Bread? Wow. The milk bread and the fresh whipped cream were fluffy, light, and not too sweet. I would go back again in a heartbeat. If I was in the neighborhood, I would be a regular. And when I give a place 5 stars, 5 stars to me means: take my money and I might dangerously spend too much of my paycheck here. Which is what I did, but no regrets. I ordered a Bulgogi (stir-fried marinated beef) that came with rice and some banchan, then I also got a separate appetizer of Mandu (fried chicken dumplings). All the food was as expected and I can't really complain about anything. The bulgogi was cooked to perfection, the mandu was crispy and soft as a fried dumpling should be. The portions are large and is just the right amount for a meal if you eat like me, or a meal and some leftovers if you eat less. I wasn't in a rush and enjoyed my meal, they checked how I was doing a few times but never felt pushy. Super friendly and very prompt service. I'd try some other things next time I went. Go with a small group of 4 and try a few different dishes that you can share is my advice.

My order was ready within the time frame given by the restaurant. The lady who helped me greeted me immediately when I walked into the restaurant, and was quick to assist me. The Sweet Soy Chicken Bites had a light, crisp batter and the sauce was tasty and not too thick. The Cheese Corn dog was huge and had the perfect cheese to batter ratio. I recommend this restaurant if you enjoy Korean street food.

It is a fast food joint, so don't expect much for atmosphere or comfortablity. And the chick behind the counter wasn't really helpful or friendly. She reminded me of someone that is disgruntled in life and needs to be doing something else. That being said, food was great. Nice selection of street food. We grabbed a selection of things - ramen, bulgogi bibimbab, sausage mozza corn dog, sweet butter fries, tuna mayo kimbab, and garlic soy chicken bites as well as two bubble teas. Food came out extemely fast. It was hot and tasted fresh. My family enjoyed their ramen. I really liked the bulgogi bibimbab. Good portion size, and a good ratio of meat to veggies. Beef was well seasoned. my kid had the spicy pork cutlet ramen and I sampled the broth. It was really spicy and delicous. Chicken bites were good but not outstandish. Birthday kid wolfed down the fries and corn dog. If you like these things, you really need to come here. The Kimbab was fresh but I was hoping for a bit more flavours in it. The bubble tea was fine but a bit sweet for my liking. However, if you need a quick bite to eat and are in the area, choose this over any fast food establishment. About the same in price point, and way better flavours and freshness. This would also make a good take out for a picnic.
