My love for Korean fried chicken is SO REAL! From eating at multiple Korean fried chicken joints, I would say that this is in my top 3 of best chicken ever, and top 2 for best-fried chicken without any sauces. The exterior of the chicken is so crunchy and personally, just enough flavor. The ratio with breading to chicken is also P-E-R-F-E-C-T. With 7 people sharing 36 pieces of chicken, it was a lot of chicken. My friends and I also got to enjoy many other Korean dishes, from a few hotplates, stews, and appetizers. My friend and I shared the original bulgogi beef hot plate and the kimchi soontofu stew while the group also shared the cheese tteokbokki. With all this food, we were all content with how full we were. Based on what I ate, the Bulgogi beef hot plate came out hot and sizzling. It was music to my ears! It was a little sweet but paired well with the one bowl of rice that came with it. The sauteed veggies complemented the beef well. I would recommend getting this if you are trying out Korean food, or want some really bomb traditional food. Another dish that I got to try was the Kimchi soontofu stew. Since I was craving this, I was really looking forward to it. It came out it a hot stone bowl, filled with delicious kimchi, some seafood (TBH, no seafood really but I didn't mind), an egg, and LOTS of tofu. Personally, I love tofu as it soaks up all the flavor you give it. It was flavourful with some seafood and was more acidic than spicy. It paired well with the Bulgogi beef, as the stew cuts through the rich and sweetness of the beef. The Cheese tteokbokki was good from the pieces I had (about 2 or 3, LOL) It was soft and the pieces were pretty long. Other than that, I would not recommend sharing this dish with 7 people, as it is not enough for everyone. Unless you want a taste, but there's no guarentee that your pieces will have any cheese on it. The service was very sweet, although there was only one person running the front. She did a great job, I would say! The employee was very patient with ordering our food, she always had a smile on her face and got us everything we needed. A shout out to her because if I was in her position, everything would be in flames. The location is pretty small, and we were SUPER lucky to have a seat for 7 people when we came in. There is a reason why this place is always packed. You feel just at home! I would recommend this place if you live in the deep south side. The good Korean food just hits the spot! Went here with friends Saturday evening and really enjoyed it! It's a small restaurant but parking was easy enough to get. We got there just after 6 PM and found a table immediately. We got 3 dishes and shared between all 3 of us. The Soontofu was great! The tofu and egg is made all the more delicious by the stew itself. The menu marked it as spicy but it was very mild compared to what I expected. The Pork Backbone Stew was just mouthwatering. The deep salty flavour you can only get from boiling real meat and bone really shines on this dish. It has chunks of potatoes that crumble easily once you take a bite into them. It was also marked as spicy so I asked our server if it's possible to make it milder since we already had the Soontofu, but they mentioned that it's already premade (10 hours of cooking time. Bless their hardworking staff), and that its less spicy that what I was probably imagining. When we got it, it actually was even less spicy than the Soontofu - so much that I don't recall it registering as spicy whatsoever! We also got half an order of honey garlic fried chicken. I have a bit of a sweet tooth and the sweet sauce they made hit just the right spot for me. The chicken pieces were also delightfully crisp! Tables and chairs were neat and not sticky. It's been ages since my last visit to Wing Chicx so I figured we'd give it a shot, especially to see how it would hold up against all the new KFC joints that have opened up lately. That and all my go to Korean places were closed Monday. L and I got there just before the rush and were able to snag a table. I don't know what Wing Chicx's deal is but either their layout is terrible or they need to train their staff better because we were asked to move once we had settled down along with another couple to make room for a larger group. Wouldn't have been an issue but the rest of service was terrible. It's a rarity that I complain about service but woooooooow, dreadful would be putting it nicely. There were two waitresses working the front but they were running around like headless chickens. Or maybe they were hiding in the back, I have no idea. Sure, it was busy but it wasn't packed. I have no idea why/how it was so hard to take our order, re-fill our waters (that didn't happen), and to process our payment (had to ask multiple times for the bill). - Banchan - pretty standard stuff. They brought out kim chi, bean sprouts, braised potato and pickled daikon. The potato was the tastiest of the four side dishes. Good luck getting any refills. - Jap chae (#32) ($11.99) - pan stir fried sweet potato noodle with beef and assorted vegetables in their special soy sauce. My bud's never had jap chae before and I've never had Wing Chicx's take on this Korean staple so we ordered it. It was pretty average. I'm not a fan of the cabbage that they throw into the mix. Can't help but compare how much better Korean Grill's version was. - Original bulgogi beef (1D) ($16.00) - bulgogi beef with mixed vegetables marinated in Wing Chicx bulgogi soy sauce. Again, I wasn't very impressed. It was almost identical to their jap chae dish except that there was more beef and an unnecessary, excessive amount of cabbage. And seriously, what's with using the exact same vegetables? I know times are tough with increased food prices but yikes. At $16.00, our most expensive dish, I wouldn't order it again. - Chicken drumsticks ($10.99) - they were out of full chickens (we wanted to get half a chicken for $15.00) so we settled with their 6 piece drumstick option. These came out PIPING hot. You've been warned. The skin is hot, crispy and evenly battered while the inside is tender and juicy. Pretty good but you need to get a side of the sweet sauce to jazz up the flavours. We asked for extra sauce but that never came. Easily the best dish of the night and price is on point. I prefer their half chicken option as you get a variety of cuts and it just soaks up the sauce better. - Seafood pan fried pizza (8-S) ($12.99) - assorted seafood and mixed vegetables battered together and pan fried. It came without the vinegar soy sauce that usually accompanies seafood pancakes, which they didn't bring out until we were two thirds done. Of course, we weren't able to flag them down to tell them this so we gave up and ate it without. Sadly, It NEEDED sauce to save it. The pancake itself was mediocre. Lacked any crispy texture (read: kind of mushy) and the amount of seafood inside was laughable. Pretty disappointing. This was one of those times where bad service really can affect your food experience. Food was above average but it's no longer on my list when I'm thinking of going out for Korean food. Now they charge 2 dollars to put the sauce on the chicken......... free on the side, $2 to put it on the actual chicken...... the chicken is more expensive than other Korean places, now the $2 is ridiculous. We went to run an errand and then came back, I decided to wait in the car a bit since I didn't think it would be ready......the waitress must have noticed us and brought my order out to me!! That was extremely above and beyond what she had to do, I thanked her and let her know she didn't have to do that and it was very nice. Family run, and full of tasty fried chicken. Prices are $25 for a fried chicken or $15 for a half a chicken. Well worth it, the chicken comes out with a hot crispy skin and super moist meat. Be warned though it's blisteringly hot. You will get the chicken straight out of the fryer. No waiting in a hot plate area. This is in itself a bit torturous as you know you've got delicious chicken , and just want to take a huge bite of it. Wing Chix also serves a selection of free small Korean appetizers as soon as you sit down. They serve a variety of Korean dishes as well, but I've never had a chance to try them as I always go straight for the chicken. You can get it with the Korean sauce on the chicken, or with it on the side. If it's your first time I'd say get it half and half. Fast quick service, they are a fast/casual restaurant. As with all others - I came here with my usual expectation of a restaurant based on its reviews. Wing Chicx is actually quite a small cosy restaurant with lively bright decors. We ordered the famous fried chicken with sauce and the Potato Pork Bone Stew which came with a bowl of rice alongside a couple of complementary side dishes. The stew was very bland though it looked flavourful. A couple of dashes of salt and the sauce from the fried chicken was added into the stew to make it a tad more flavourful. Still, it wasn't great. The fried chicken was tender and nicely crisp. The sauce was lovely though my partner didn't like it at all. In my humble opinion, the famous fried chicken really isn't anything special or amazing to the extent that would blow me away. Service was really nothing near attentive. We weren't asked how the food was nor had our drinks filled up quickly when it was empty - keeping in mind that the restaurant is really small and had 2 servers with at least 2 tables each to serve. It was my first time here at this well talked about Korean restaurant. My sister in law made resos the same day as she informed me that it gets crazy busy here and I am glad she did. We got there at 5:30pm and the place was already jam packed. They had about 10-12 tables mixed of booths and chair seating. I felt bad for the 2 servers that were running back and forth to the kitchen and tables along with the line up of people who were hoping to get take out. We had 3 adults and 2 kids under 10 yrs old. They were able to offer a high chair for my nephew which was nice as most places had booster seats only. The menu consisted a mix of photos to show newbies what to expect with certain dishes (which I found quite helpful). My sister in law did the ordering as she has been there numerous times. We decided on Korean bbq short ribs, bulgogi udon soup, seafood soontofu stew, wing Chicx fried chicken wings/drumsticks and bulgogi poutine. The dishes also came with 2 sides of rice and some pickled dishes. The bbq ribs came out on a sizzling hot plate and my was it ever delicious. The bulgogi udon soup was not anything special, as I felt like it was just udon noodles in a beef broth. The broth was a bit too salty for my taste. I found the fried chicken to be quite tasty and the skin was very crispy. I don't have fried chicken that often but it was fairly good. The seafood stew had amazing flavors and just the right level of spiciness with a good kick (wait till it cools off a bit before attempting to try it). I loved the mix vegetables and egg with some noodles that were in the broth. The poutine was a little different and I am glad that I tried it but not sure if I would get it again (too many cheese curds for my taste and not enough sauce). Came with a group of 4 on a Saturday night. We thought we were being clever by arriving at 5:45 to beat the dinner rush. Well, the restaurant is fairly small and we must have missed the 5:30 rush. Other would be patrons came up to the door and saw the lineup, then drove away. By the time we got seated 35 minutes later, three tables had vacated and there was not much of a wait for the rest of the night. Sorry, I'm not feeling the love for the fried chicken as much as everyone else. It was average fried chicken drenched in sauce that resembled sweet and sour with a little bit of spice. I wasn't a big fan of the seafood/pizza pancake either. A lot of onions, other vegetables and a bit of seafood done in a stir fry. The batter was bland and overpowering along with the onions. Seafood noodles - OK Seafood tofu stew - it looks great when they serve it to you because the soup is still boiling. Other than that I didn't care for it. It is more of a soup than a stew though, unless maybe a Korean stew is a soup? Not sure. It wasn't all bad news. The Korean short ribs were tasty and perfectly grilled. Served with rice, kimchi and bean sprouts, all on the side, the short ribs are the star of the show. The word is out on Wing Chicx and it's deserved. The location is unassuming tucked back in the second building of an industrial park. It's surrounded by other restaurants, so this place is a destination, rather than a neighbourhood joint. The dining room is a bit bare, except for the ceiling filled with a rainbow of hundreds of origami cranes. It was quite inviting. I chatted with my server for a few minutes about why I had come. She was curious as it was mid afternoon and given it's location, she said that they rarely have guests at that time. We spoke about the menu, and she told me that they do ramen during lunch and that her favorite dish was the spicy pork hot plate. I noticed on the menu, a good selection of bibimbap (one of my favorites), however, I was set on the bulgogi today. I'd recommend eating in as they serve traditional Korean side dishes with every meal. There were 5 side dishes today; seasoned bean sprouts, seasoned cabbage, pickled radish, potatoes, and kimchi. These along with a pot of hot tea, set this meal up for success. Soon enough, a pot of white rice and my main dish arrived. It was pretty big and it came with mixed vegetables. There was a thick and sweet soy sauce throughout and it was quite good. The service was attentive but not too pushy and the food was fast and delicious. A lot of this could be because the place was empty. I was very full when I left and it all cost less than $20, so this was a successful visit. I can't wait to come back for bibimbap. read more

Hours of operation are decent but remember to reserve if wanting to go in the evening or weekend. Very pleasant staff and fast service. Waitress was friendly and provided explanations of dishes. My friend and I tried multiple dishes - mainly the chicken and Meat- although other options available. I have had Korean BBQ in other cities and including Edmonton and the taste of the food amazing. I went to Wing Chicx by invitation of a friend of mine. The menu is in Korean with the list of ingredients in English. I'm glad there are some pictures in the menu to have an idea what the dish is about. It is still confusing to know what to order if you are not familiar with the menu, so I just left my friend order for us. We ordered Korean bbq with a bowl of rice. Food was tasty. I went to the washroom to wash my hands but there was no soap. The washroom would really benefit from a facelift. The service was okay, the server didn't come too often to the table so I had to called her twice but maybe that's their way to give more privacy to the patrons. There is parking available but it is shared with the other stores in that mall. You might need to walk a little bit more but should be able to find where to park. read more

Wing Chicx is a hole in the wall located in an odd industrial-style shopping centre just off of Parsons Road. The menu is a gigantic assortment of Korean Delicacies, plus they serve Ramen at lunchtime, But the appeal for me is the fried chicken. If you have a larger appetite, are sharing, and have about 20 minutes to wait, the half or whole chicken are certainly the way to go. I like mine spicy. It's phenomenally crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. For those with smaller appetites and less time, WingChicx will fry up smaller pieces of chicken and toss it with peppers and sweet and sour sauce. It's still delicious, but it's not the same kind of religious experience as the half or whole fried chicken. And certainly not as juicy. It's good if you don't want leftovers and it is served with kimchee and a fishy tasting tofu salad. If you're in the area, check it out. One of my favourite spots for Korean in Edmonton, Wing Chicx has a hole in the wall atmosphere in a strip mall just off Ellerslie. Make sure to get the spicy wings. Other favourites are the sweet potato glass noodles and kalbi, which were enormous, delicious, and come with scissors for cutting. We were sucking the bones to get the last bits of juice. Wing Chicx is great for kids too, with friendly service and large tables. Call ahead for a reservation though as the restaurant itself isn't that big. The kids enjoyed fried rice and fried shrimp. This has been my favorite Korean restaurant for the past year. My favorite dish is the stir fried sweet potato noodle. It's sweet "ho wat" ( very smooth) noodle mixed with the delicious stir fry has and excellent "hao gum" ( mouth feel). Don't miss out on the the seafood pancake. You are welcomed by many staff members here. The interior is bright and colorful. It's like a "Good Morning Sunshine" feel. They give you 5 generous side dishes and a large pot of tea! That's what I like the most is a BIG teapot. Tiny teapots has an annoying affect on me. There menu has a lot of really cute sayings...it kinda makes you giggle a bit when you read it. We shared the 15 piece fried chicken. It was very juicy and not as greasy as I thought it should be. The fluffy Korean rice made me smile. The japchae had a lot of vegetables in it and the noodles didn't stick together. I didn't have to fight with my chopstick to pick up the noodles. Thumbs up! The kim chee soup was also really good. A friend and I were trying to decide where to grab a bite, and she suggested this spot. Since I had never been, and since she shot down my ideas, we ventured forth to procure some chow. I should have stuck to my guns. Such a pleasant surprise! Wing Chicx is a tiny restaurant nestled in an outdoor strip mall, a very short drive away from South Edmonton Common. From the name of the restaurant, I didn't know that the food was Korean. My first instinct was to assume that this mainly a fast food chicken joint. From my table, I could see the open part of the kitchen. The staff seemed focused, organized and the kitchen looked very clean. We ordered six fried chicken wings, half a fried chicken (6-7 pieces) and a seafood pan fried pizza. The food came out in minutes. The fried chicken came out hot and crispy. There was so much meat on the fried chicken! We also ordered the seafood pan fried pizza, which looked more like a seafood pancake. So yummy! The pizza was pan fried and oh so easy to eat. The pizza had zucchini, carrots, green onions and prawns. A word of caution to people who squirm with the idea of eating octopus...tentacles were visible in the pizza. On the side, the condiments included kimchi (made fresh daily), radish, bean sprouts, and a shredded cabbage salad with dressing. The owner Paul Kim is such a personable guy! He teasingly tried to photo bomb my attempt to take a picture of the colourful paper cranes hanging from the ceiling. He noticed my friend had a cast on and even jokingly offered to feed him! He shared how he makes the food from scratch and how many people don't realize how much hard work and preparation goes into making authentic Korean food. All of his hard work and dedication have definitely paid off because the food is DELICIOUS! Overall, this was my first time trying out this restaurant and I LOVED IT! I felt like the prices were reasonable, especially considering the quality and the taste of the food that was being served. For two of us we spent about $40 and we had leftovers to bring home - mainly the chicken. The pizza made me full. I will definitely come back and try the other items on the menu. The chicken came out really fresh, hot and juicy and with a pile of napkins which were appreciated. Came here to grab some Korean, and saw that the reviews were very favourable for this spot. It wasn't an obvious storefront but the ambiance in the restaurant was friendly and inviting. I just had their deep-fried chicken wings and i still got all these nice little snack plates to add and complement the wings. Wings - awesome. So tasty, spicy but not overly spicy, and it still had some sweetness coming through. The sauce and breading on the chicken was done perfectly. I was scooping up all the sauce with anything i had left on the chicken. Will definitely have to go back to explore more the menu! read more

My spouse and I have eaten here twice now and we had Wing Chicx chicken for our Christmas Eve dinner. The last time we checked into this place was this last Saturday January 10th, 2015 with our volleyball group. We shared their whole fried chicken for $25 and ordered individual dishes. I myself had the Kimchi Stew, my spouse had the Spicy Seafood noodle soup, a friend had the Bulgogi Beef rice dish and another had the Bulgogi Beef Noodle soup. We had a fifth person that decided to order the Fried Honey Rice Sticks. I have found the quality so far to be consistent and we all enjoyed our dinner. Also we walked out quite full. The only thing I would say is the restaurant isn't good for large groups. Probably if you had 8 people that would be the maximum. I have read a few reviews of this place and they all sounded great. My wife and I finally had an opportunity to check this place out for ourselves. We were just amazed at the effect this place had on our tongues! We had the chicken wings with sauce of course and the subtly of heat and sweetness was perfect. They arrived hot and fresh. The wings were also of a decent size and we really felt there was some solid value there. We also had some of the fried rice. My wife loved this dish and it will truly be a favourite of hers; the flavours blended well with no one taste over powering the other. A nice balance. The Korean ribs are a must and they are absolutely amazing. The atmosphere is nothing to write home about but with food like this who cares! The service was good and we felt welcome. Extremely poor service, mediocre food. The seating layout was awful and my table of 2 was against the back of a table of 6. The other table had people's back against the side of our table. We were in the middle of the restaurant, which was in the opening off the kitchen and aside from our order being taken, no one checked in on our meal, how we were doing, or refilled our water. We had the kimchi pancake and fried chicken. Neither tasted particularly special or memorable, and was definitely not worth the price. They gave us the bill when we were done, didn't even offer dessert. I will not be returning to this restaurant or recommend it to anyone else. read more

Great fried chicken but terrible service. We had piles of chicken which was delicious. But, I can't give this a higher score because the service was brutal. We sat and waited a long time for someone to come take our order. The server had to be reminded twice that a couple of us wanted diet cokes. The water took forever to be refilled. The food came out slowly and when it did there was no description of what we were getting. And then finally, we sat and waited to get out bill. The plates were piled up at our table for about 20 minutes when finally we went up to ask for the bill. After we asked for the bill, they asked if we wanted tea or dessert. You'd think with the line-up out the door the service would be more efficient. I'd probably go back for the food but would be leary of the service. "4 star" this place is not. read more

Our favourite Korean restaurant in town. Everyone should try their fried chicken; it's so tasty and very crispy. Better than any other chicken place in Edmonton. Their Seafood pizza is surprisingly good too. Four star because I think they need to renovate/redesign their place to add a modern touch. read more

The fried chicken is the reason this restaurant has 4 stars! Never thought Korean fried chicken was a thing until I tried it here. We have a toddler so we always ask for the spicy sauce on the side - it's the best! The service is so so and I find some of the other dishes oily. read more

Table of 5 for a Monday lunch. Service was shockingly quick and really friendly. We had Bibimbap, spicy hot plates and some noodle dishes. All five of us would recommend the dishes we had, 4 of us had never been here before and all of us would return. For non Koreans we feel the food is excellent, the kimchi is worth the drive alone. Pricing was really great given that the condiments/appetisers kept coming throughout the meal. I will bring my family back here. The waitress was absolutely attentive to our table and added to teh experience. The meal included Water, Tea and these Korean apps (small dishes of delicious treats). read more
