I love the way I feel after I eat Vietnamese food so having this option in WEM is lovely. We went on a Saturday afternoon, which I thought the place would be packed to the max, but there was still plenty of seating. Even our big group of 7 had a luxury semi-private seating. Which I loved that semi-privacy setup that they have for larger groups, helps keep the sound more contained for sure! At every Vietnamese place we always get Vietnamese coffees and this place did not disappoint, but I did find it strange that they didn't come out right away but mid meal. We ordered the golden wontons $14.25- these were so good, came out hot and right away. The chicken wings $15.95 we got the salt and pepper that the kids really enjoyed. Also ordered the #10 grilled chicken, shrimp, pork, pork pattie, beef and spring roll vermicelli $23.50 which had so much meat! I felt like it needed a bit more vermicelli noodles though. The special Banh Mi Vietnamese Sandwich $13.50 was a great price and value but oddly it didn't come cut in half. The Pho with Steak Flank was a huge portion we couldn't even finish the medium size- medium $19.25 large $20.25. Overall a great restaurant choice if you're visiting the mall. read more

I've only been here one time so 3 stars for now because overall it was fine and our food was tasty. I do agree with some of review comments about prices but I remind myself that it must be very expensive to have a business on bourbon street. We had appetizers including a papaya salad, salad rolls and wonton soup. All were tasty but the portions are modest. The bathrooms are very clean and modern and there is a wheelchair accessible bathroom. The decor of the entryway is stunning. We had a beer and a cocktail. The beer was very cold and the cocktail was tasty and cold. The service was quick and there was no wait to get in (that's a bit unusual as most other places on bourbon street had a wait, it's one the reasons we went here, no wait). Our go to Pho restaurant. Sumptuous servings and great menu to choose from. Prices are a little bit expensive, compared to other Vietnamese restaurants. Quality is so good, you'll want to try and experience their other menu everytime you go back. Their staff are all nice and superb except for the lady manager? Owner? Decided to give this new place a try since the other two competitors in the mall aren't very good, either bad or no service or doesn't taste that great. Before getting a table, I checked out the menu to realize it is just a Vietnamese restaurant, nothing fusion to be seen although there were some other Asian dishes available such as pad Thai and chow mein. Also noticed that the prices were a bit high. The decor and set up is beautiful, unlike other Vietnamese restaurants hence the menu prices? Giant paintings hang on the wall, a big Buddha near the entrance and two levels. The booth was very comfortable and the restaurant was quiet. We received basic service but the food arrived quickly. The large noodle soup bowl contained lots of meat and noodles, the rice with pork chop and egg was good, except the spring rolls. They tasted like they were cold and just got deep fried again as the crispy skin was darker than usual and was a bit greasy. The pork had a nice flavour and there was more than enough rice. The atmosphere was relaxing and enjoyable so there was no feel of being rushed to eat and get out. I had the beef chow mein and it was bland, the veggies were hardly fried and the meat was chewy and unseasoned. After a few bites I started feeling really ill. I talked to the waitress about it and she took away my food and at the end of the meal she still charged me. I asked if their waffle was sweet, they said no, it was very sweet. My husband shared his meal with me as mine was dreadful, and his vermicelli bowl was also bad. They cooked all the protein so long it all was tough and burnt. I do not recommend you go there. Conveniently located inside West Edmonton Mall on the Waterpark side of the restaurant strip, this fusion Vietnamese restaurant has comfortable seating, friendly service and decent food. They serve majority Vietnamese dishes while they also serve some Chinese style rice, noodle and stir fried dishes. I ordered grilled shrimp, pork and spring roll vermicelli. It was nice that they were willing to remove pork pattie from the original dish per request and replaced it with a little more shrimp and pork. Both the shrimp and pork were grilled with minimal charcoal left on the food which is healthier while the flavour delivered the smokiness. The spring rolls were very crispy on the skin and the pork and ingredients wrapped inside were very tasty. The dry vermicelli was well cooked with the right texture. The sweet and sour fish sauce on the side breaks down the grease from the meat and refreshes the whole dish. For dessert I had deep fried pineapple with vanilla ice cream on the side. I had deep fried banana elsewhere. I was intrigued by the idea of deep frying pineapple. I think the batter was a bit too thick for my liking. The pineapple, however, was very sweet. It was good pairing with vanilla ice cream. The price of the dishes was more expensive than other Vietnamese restaurants that are not in a mall. I get that things at WEM may be a bit more expensive, but you should at least get what you pay for...and we definitely didn't here. $58 before tip is a lot for Vietnamese food that didn't taste overly flavourful or authentic (definitely not like my mom's cooking, that's for sure.) It wasn't overly busy the night we went, and we were seated right away. We barely had our coats off and the server was already asking if we were ready to order. I had to ask them to give us a minute 3 or 4 times because he kept coming back to ask us - it's not a super long menu and I know what I want in a Vietnamese restaurant, but wow, cool your horses, dude. It's not like there's a line out the door waiting for our table. We had 2 iced milk coffees ($5.71 each) and they were pretty good. Plenty of condensed milk and ice, and they came to the table pretty quickly along with our waters. We ordered golden wontons as an appetizer ($12) and an order came with 12. Very very greasy, so I don't think I'd recommend it. A medium bowl of pho ($13.80) was stingy on the amount of meat and the noodles were very clumpy. SUCH a pet peeve of mine is when noodles are clumpy!! The broth itself tasted very bland and watered down and I wasn't super happy with this dish. Vermicelli with a variety of meat and a spring roll ($17.62). Ok, that's a crazy price for a bowl that was mostly vegetables. Spring roll was also very greasy (they need to change the oil in the deep fryer maybe?) and the meat was pretty bland. Overall, we weren't super impressed with this either. The sautéed chicken was pretty bland... I added some of the condiments on the table to add some more flavour. The vegetables in it were nicely cooked, but the chicken was a bit chewy. A lot of the other reviews mention the high prices here - and that is definitely true. On the whole, everything seems to cost somewhere in the range of 2 to 5 dollars more than you'd think it should. Perhaps it is the high cost of operating a restaurant on Bourbon Street in West Edmonton Mall? However, the restaurant does offer half price appetizers on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings if you're looking to visit this place without spending a bundle. The menu has a lot of variety, including traditional Vietnamese dishes like pho and vermicelli bowls. However, there are lots of other Asian cuisines included on the menu. The interior of the restaurant is a bit small, but lovely and very modern. The washrooms are up a short flight of stairs, however, there is an accessible washroom on the main floor for those who have difficulty with stairs. Now, onto the food. We had the Shrimp Pad Thai ($17.15) and Chicken Chow Mein ($20.95). The food we had was very tasty, but I'm not sure if it is so much better than your usual Asian restaurants to justify the prices. However, portion sizes were generous. We probably would return to this place if we were already in the mall and looking for an Asian meal without hitting the food court. Mmm so good! All of the food that we had was really good as well as the green tea. The environment was so relaxing and modern and the background music they had playing was really strange but put out a super happy vibe! The only downside would be their service. They were quick to get our orders and bring them out, but they didn't check on us for quite some time so we weren't able to top up on our drinks. So this is a restaurant in WEM's bourbon street that advertises itself as Fusion of Asian cultures; but it's really a Vietnamese restaurant. Beautiful interior though, with a huge Buddha at the entrance. The walls are laden with large artworks of Vietnamese culture. I was worried about seating as I had an infant with me, but there's actually 2 semi private rooms with large round tables, space for stroller parking and high chairs. There's about 3 individual unisex washrooms down a hallway on the second level which also offers a view of the restaurant. A handicap washroom is at the base of the washroom staircase, but they weren't equipped with a diaper change table. The server was able to pull together a changing surface by putting 4 chairs together which I appreciate. Service was quite attentive...we were actually given service by 2 servers, so we ended up having quality checks 3 times within the same 5 minutes. They have child friendly sized spoons, forks are huge though, but workable. You can also request a smaller bowl for your child as we found the child size pho to be a little too big for a toddler. Portion size is a decent amount for what you pay for. We got a papaya salad, chicken & spring rolls with rice, and child pho. The one thing I have to say is don't get the child pho. There's better value in the adult size. With the appetizer & main + child soup, it easily fed 2 adults and toddler, with potential for leftovers. But it came to just under $50 which is a lot compared to other Vietnamese places I've been to, probably because of location, ambience & service. If you have peanut allergies, check with your server, because some dishes come with a sprinkling of crushed peanuts. My wife and I had the misfortune of visiting this restaurant January 4, 2023. As a couple we have been going to Vietnamese restaurants for over 30 years, myself for over 40 years. Our experience at this place was by far the worst we have every experienced for Vietnamese food. We ordered Pho, fresh salad rolls, and Vietnamese iced coffee. We asked for chili oil, the waiter said they didn't have any because they were too busy the week before (there's an Asian grocery store just above their restaurant). They brought us the bean sprouts and basil for the Pho, the basil was old, browned, dry and wilted with no lemon or limes. The Pho stock was disappointingly very weak with no depth of flavor. The salad rolls came and the rice paper that they wrapped the rolls in was dry, tough and chewy. The iced coffee came and the glass that the ice came in still had half the bar code sticker on it. We will never eat there again and have recommended our family and friends do the same. We paid for our over priced meal, told the manager of our experience and then left for good. read more

I didn't want to try it at first because it wasn't that busy and not so great reviews but after a full day of swimming at the water park with the family, we really wanted pho. We gave it a shot because this other pho place we went to had 4 stars and the food was not that great in the Edmonton area. We came here two days in a row and everything was delicious and the service was great! This will be my go to place from now on for all Vietnamese food. There was an active shooter right after we finished eating. There was an overhead announcement and siren for the whole mall to hear but it was very busy and noisy inside so we can barely understand what it was being said. My cousin went outside the restaurant to listen and when she came back, she immediately told us to get up and go straight to the back. The staff didn't seem to care as they continued to serve food and take orders from people! I know the mall have quarterly drills to prepare staff and guests when things like this happen, but the staff failed to do what they were supposed to do! The other restaurants immediately shut their doors, turned off all their lights and kept quiet. Ours were the complete opposite! We were the last ones to close the doors, they let other people from outside still come inside, none of the staff were communicating with us in terms of where to hide and what to do, staff kept on serving food and taking orders nonchalantly, all lights were on. It was very scary. All of us were obviously confused as we didn't know what caused the overhead warning, but the instruction was clear, "Seek shelter. This is not a drill." One of the customers even asked one of the staff to alert everyone to stay at the back and asked if the lights can be turned off, but the staff member just shrugged her shoulders! My whole family went upstairs and hid near the bathroom stalls, others kept eating and chatting at the tables while the staff served. Unbelievable, like how can you even eat and stay relaxed when there was an immediate threat going on? We were stuck inside for 2 hours. Most of us ended up browsing on all sorts of social media and news reports for updates. The staff finally turned the lights off 5 minutes before the overhead announcement told us that the situation has resolved. Talk about sense of urgency, people. I hope their staff have the proper training on how to handle emergency lockdowns such as that. Customers like us who are only visiting Canada rely on the staff in terms of the proper procedures. This is our second time at this restaurant on bourbon street in the west edmonton mall. Plenty of seating, very clean and the food comes out really quick! The staff are on the move constantly and checked with us on a regular basis. My bf ordered soup without cilantro and it had to be sent back because they accidently added cilantro to his order. Very apologetic and his new and improved soup arrived to the table in no time. I had a chicken vermicelli bowl and it was huge!! Great flavors and lots of veggies and chicken with a small amount of noodles. We were looking for a place to eat on a Saturday during a rush (1 pm-ish) and went to Mai because we've never seen it before. Weren't expecting super quick service because of the time, but we ended up waiting over 10 minutes for a server to take our drink order. Meanwhile, I watched literally every other server walk past in a rush. I understand that they were busy, but waiting over 10 mins to get a drink order was a little silly. I usually judge good service on if the water glasses are refilled. Unfortunately, that didn't happen, and our servers only interaction with us was to hurriedly take our order, then drop off our food and then give us our bill before running off. Their saving grace was how quickly the food came out (around 5 mins) The food was delicious and my Pho was full of meat. The medium was quite large and for 13.89 you can get any quantity or type of meat. The vermicelli on the other hand only came with one small spring roll, was full of meat, but was a bit pricey at $17. It seems that I took two stars away for terrible service, and another for the price. But added a star because the food was good and came out quickly. We had an afternoon appointment in the area of the mall, so we decided to swing by and have a quick lunch on Bourbon Street. I noticed Mai Vietnamese fusion restaurant that has been around for a few months or so now and decided to give it a shot. It was around lunch and it wasn't terribly busy. So we were seated fairly quickly. It was clean and looked well decorated and it definitely had some sort of theme (I couldn't figure it out) but there was a uniformity to the decor. The music was a mix of 90's and early 2000's pop and r&b. After giving a quick glance over the menu it looked like your typical Vietnamese restaurant, spring roll appetizers, pho dishes, vermicelli, rice dishes and the like. But nothing fusion about it, just your regular run of the mill Vietnamese food. We ordered the meatless pho and a rare beef and brisket pho as well. The soup broth was nothing to write home about and the noodles were all stuck in clumps and sort of chewy in a bad way. It wasn't terrible but I also wouldn't go back, the only saving grace of it all was that we went during their happy hour so we got 15% off our bill. It was over priced in our opinion even for Edmonton standards which are more expensive than places like Toronto and Vancouver. The service was passable and they had weird mints that came with the bill. If you're into aesthetics it is a pretty good looking restaurant but that's where it ends. If you want a better dining experience on Bourbon Street at the West Edmonton mall I'd suggest almost anything else. But if you're craving an average middle of the road dish of pho then give it a shot, it wasn't bad but I'd probably go to other Vietnamese restaurants before I go here again. read more

So my food was tasty, though not at all spicy. It was definitely a more expensive Vietnamese option than most in Edmonton, but clearly as this restaurant is located on Bourbon Street, this doesn't surprise. I don't know why the word fusion is in the name of the restaurant as the food seems like very standard Vietnamese food. The table service was a bit uneven: we got perhaps too much attention at the beginning of our meal and not enough at the end of our meal when we wanted to pay and depart. The decor is really shiny and new. I did like the fact that the menu had lots of options, and that we could eat at a booth. I would have preferred spicier food and I found it really off putting that chopsticks were not provided initially (staff assumed that we wanted forks instead), so that was a bit awkward. Fortunately they did have chopsticks as I do prefer eating my Asian food with chopsticks (especially noodles). If I could give less then one star I would ! We walked into this place at 40 min before happy hour was ending we placed our order within 10'min of being seated as we wanted to take advantage of the 15% of our meal . When we got our bill we saw we did not get the happy hour discount for the meal because we paid our bill after the happy hour timing . As I understand it the meal needs to be punched in before the cut off time not to be paid before the cut off time. This was a second time I have gone here I didn't really love it the first time either not much of a selection for wine or beer and over priced for food and it was ok food I have had better Vietnamese food from the restaurant across the street . It is located on Bourbon Street in West Edmonton Mall . I hadn't been down bourbon street for maybe 20 yrs and was just looking around and thought i'd check it out. The place is fairly large and has tables spread over 2 levels .They are pretty far from each other so you have personal space. The decor is modern with classy looking tables,chairs and decoration. They have a new-agey type piano muzak playing in the background that i found very pleasant. Service was ok and prompt. They have pho which is my go-to in most cases so i ordered a large bowl from a choice of regular or large. The large turned out to be a bit bigger than most places' regular bowls. Nice black bowls with large square drip tray underneath. They have the usual condiments on the table. The 3 meat pho i ordered had more meat than places normally give you and the broth was good. I had jasmine green tea and it was good as well.When you order tea they ask you a choice of 2 teas. Only reason i didn't give this place 4 stars was the prices. $15.70 for the large pho is not too bad and i could handle that. The $5.00 for tea though is pretty extreme for something most restaurants usually give you for free . So with tip it ended up being $25 for large pho and a pot of tea. I have visited Mai twice now so this will be a two part review, but you are only as good as your last bit of feedback. Visited in the middle of November with friends from out of town and it was fantastic. Our service was very young and shy, but she was attentive and check on us regularly. The food was fresh and tasty with bold flavors and very good portion sizes. I was very excited as it was some of the best Asian food I have had in Edmonton. I returned this evening and the experience was beyond disappointing. We were seated quickly and received our drinks quickly as well. I ordered a app to start and order the rest of our meals. My entrée came out first before everyone else's food and before the app to start. All the rest of the food came out. We finally received our "Fresh Rolls" and they were anything but "Fresh" Some of the rice paper was hard and looked like plastic. We got through one each and were not about to try and get through the other two. Over 30 minutes had elapsed and we where not checked on at all by our server. She finally came by and asked if we needed anything else. We showed her the rolls and said that we did not enjoy them and they were not fresh and they were very hard. We also explained to here the meat in the vermicelli bowl was tough and not good either. She did not say much or offer any sort of apology and she brought us our bill and there was a $1.20 discount on the bill for the rolls. We explained to her that we should not have to pay for the rolls as they were so bad and her response was "Well you ate two of them" by that logic we should have at minimum only paid for two of the rolls. I expressed displeasure with the discount or lack thereof and ask to speak with a manager. No manager was present at the time as she had to call someone on the phone and then she ended up not charging us for the rolls which I appreciated. When she returned to take payment for the rest of the meals she aggressively put the debit machine in front of us and walked away. We had got up to leave and I asked her what her name was and why responded by saying "Why" so maybe her name was Y or Why I :P I do not know. She was a middle aged woman and needs a refresher on how to serve guests and what it means to be in the hospitality industry key word "hospitality" I had such high hopes for this place as I work in the West Edmonton Mall and I was excited to hopefully make this a regular spot to go, but after this experience I will likely not come back. Just begin I write, I'd like to say I wish I could give ZERO stars. I have been an employee and a customer at this place before and after I was hired, and both were not good experiences. As an employee, I have experienced a great lack of training, compared to my recent job, which I took after quitting from working at this place for less than a month. I looked forward to having a job, but I only received two days of extremely poor training, especially since I was a first time restaurant service employee. Overall, I was never taught how to communicate with customers smoothly, and therefore I drove customers away before stepping into the restaurant due to my lack of skill. Although I'd like to say more about my experience as an employee, it is restricted so please feel free to contact me with any questions. Now as a customer, I have experienced worse to similar situations, but never have I ever been treated so poorly and rudely for personal reasons. Since gaining more skills and experience in the restaurant industry, I also understand the basic and proper etiquette the business should be handing to their customers. I visited the restaurant for my first time since I quit, and I knew what I wanted and didn't want just from peeking into the cleanliness of the kitchen from my working days there. When I joined my friends the waitress addressed our drinks respectfully when I stepped in which I was okay with. We ordered two waters and an iced tea, but we didn't get those drinks till maybe 7 minutes later -- there were only 9 other people in the restaurant and they were already eating or just finished. I ordered the pork and shrimp salad roll off the bat for a quick snack and the price of around $9.53(?) was reasonable for 4 rolls. After receiving all our food closely at the same time, my friends were satisfied with their food, I was not -- there was a piece of hair in my food. It was only 1 of 4 pieces, but I was cautious to eat my other two for the risk of more hair being inside the wrap so I waited until I could get the servers' attention which was only until 10 minutes later. When I caught her attention, I simply asked if I could get a compensation with just one new roll or any other type of compensation while I was still okay to eat the other two, despite noticing ALL the lights in the kitchen were OFF. What she first told me pissed me off, "well, it's on the outside, I'll grab my manager." I found the piece of hair in the crease of the closing. The manager called me out AS she was walking towards me, loudly and aggressively addressing me with "what's wrong?" in front of customers. Then she said the same thing about the hair "being on the outside." After, she grabbed the salad roll with her hand, and told me exactly this: "my staff in the kitchen, they're all bald. I don't get why the hair is on here. They don't wear hairnets because they're bald." And i completely agree with them not wearing hairnets. But blaming me for your kitchen's mistake of hair that might come from anywhere other than their heads, which is on my food they made, tipped me off. What tipped me off the cliff was: "all the kitchen staff left just now, you saw them walk out. I can't make you another one." Prior to that I just asked for compensation with a drink or something for me to eat while I repeatedly told her I can eat my last two rolls. She told me she'd take my rolls off my bill, but then she took my whole plate, even though I told her I didn't want that one roll. After all that, I knew definitely I'm banning myself from visiting that place again. And after a few hours, I realized she or the server NEVER apologized. 100% would never return. read more
