    Seafood tom yum soup
    Diane R.

Decided to give it a try today for lunch, the Vietnamese iced coffee was delicious, the food was ok; I had the seafood tom yum soup based on the server's recommendation. The broth was delicious but the seafood was quite rubbery and the texture just wasn't for me. Service was friendly but felt a little slow considering the restaurant was not very busy

Pork chop and spring roll with rice

Decided to give this new place a try since the other two competitors in the mall aren't very good, either bad or no service or doesn't taste that great. Before getting a table, I checked out the menu to realize it is just a Vietnamese restaurant, nothing fusion to be seen although there were some other Asian dishes available such as pad Thai and chow mein. Also noticed that the prices were a bit high. The decor and set up is beautiful, unlike other Vietnamese restaurants hence the menu prices? Giant paintings hang on the wall, a big Buddha near the entrance and two levels. The booth was very comfortable and the restaurant was quiet. We received basic service but the food arrived quickly. The large noodle soup bowl contained lots of meat and noodles, the rice with pork chop and egg was good, except the spring rolls. They tasted like they were cold and just got deep fried again as the crispy skin was darker than usual and was a bit greasy. The pork had a nice flavour and there was more than enough rice. The atmosphere was relaxing and enjoyable so there was no feel of being rushed to eat and get out. I would return here for a special occasion or with friends for a night out but not for a family dinner since the bill could add up!

Service here is impeccable. The menu is as you would expect, and that's a good thing. This is a hard review to write in a lot of ways because it's both excellent and bland at the same time. There's nothing to say but the food is good and the service is polite and noninvasive. I can tell you I'd definitely come here again, if that helps. I would like to point out the stunning collection of Buddha statues near the entrance. THAT is impressive and cool.

Deep fried pineapple with vanilla ice cream

Conveniently located inside West Edmonton Mall on the Waterpark side of the restaurant strip, this fusion Vietnamese restaurant has comfortable seating, friendly service and decent food. They serve majority Vietnamese dishes while they also serve some Chinese style rice, noodle and stir fried dishes. I ordered grilled shrimp, pork and spring roll vermicelli. It was nice that they were willing to remove pork pattie from the original dish per request and replaced it with a little more shrimp and pork. Both the shrimp and pork were grilled with minimal charcoal left on the food which is healthier while the flavour delivered the smokiness. The spring rolls were very crispy on the skin and the pork and ingredients wrapped inside were very tasty. The dry vermicelli was well cooked with the right texture. The sweet and sour fish sauce on the side breaks down the grease from the meat and refreshes the whole dish. For dessert I had deep fried pineapple with vanilla ice cream on the side. I had deep fried banana elsewhere. I was intrigued by the idea of deep frying pineapple. I think the batter was a bit too thick for my liking. The pineapple, however, was very sweet. It was good pairing with vanilla ice cream. The price of the dishes was more expensive than other Vietnamese restaurants that are not in a mall. But for the convenience and its location, I think the price is fair. The servers were very nice and attentive.

I get that things at WEM may be a bit more expensive, but you should at least get what you pay for...and we definitely didn't here. $58 before tip is a lot for Vietnamese food that didn't taste overly flavourful or authentic (definitely not like my mom's cooking, that's for sure.) It wasn't overly busy the night we went, and we were seated right away. We barely had our coats off and the server was already asking if we were ready to order. I had to ask them to give us a minute 3 or 4 times because he kept coming back to ask us - it's not a super long menu and I know what I want in a Vietnamese restaurant, but wow, cool your horses, dude. It's not like there's a line out the door waiting for our table. We had 2 iced milk coffees ($5.71 each) and they were pretty good. Plenty of condensed milk and ice, and they came to the table pretty quickly along with our waters. We ordered golden wontons as an appetizer ($12) and an order came with 12. Very very greasy, so I don't think I'd recommend it. A medium bowl of pho ($13.80) was stingy on the amount of meat and the noodles were very clumpy. SUCH a pet peeve of mine is when noodles are clumpy!! The broth itself tasted very bland and watered down and I wasn't super happy with this dish. Vermicelli with a variety of meat and a spring roll ($17.62). Ok, that's a crazy price for a bowl that was mostly vegetables. Spring roll was also very greasy (they need to change the oil in the deep fryer maybe?) and the meat was pretty bland. Overall, we weren't super impressed with this either. A very expensive meal for mediocre food. It wasn't the worst I've had, but the pricing was definitely adding insult to injury.

Our meal was ok, but not anything special. I had the sautéed chicken and my fiancé had the red curry chicken. The portions were large and the food arrived quickly . The sautéed chicken was pretty bland... I added some of the condiments on the table to add some more flavour. The vegetables in it were nicely cooked, but the chicken was a bit chewy. The red curry had n ie flavours but wasn't spicy/hot , which the menu indicated it would be. Worth noting is the portion size, it was huge! All in all the spring rolls were the best part of the meal, and lets face it, you can get good spring rolls at a lot of restaurants.

A lot of the other reviews mention the high prices here - and that is definitely true. On the whole, everything seems to cost somewhere in the range of 2 to 5 dollars more than you'd think it should. Perhaps it is the high cost of operating a restaurant on Bourbon Street in West Edmonton Mall? However, the restaurant does offer half price appetizers on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings if you're looking to visit this place without spending a bundle. The menu has a lot of variety, including traditional Vietnamese dishes like pho and vermicelli bowls. However, there are lots of other Asian cuisines included on the menu. The interior of the restaurant is a bit small, but lovely and very modern. The washrooms are up a short flight of stairs, however, there is an accessible washroom on the main floor for those who have difficulty with stairs. Now, onto the food. We had the Shrimp Pad Thai ($17.15) and Chicken Chow Mein ($20.95). The food we had was very tasty, but I'm not sure if it is so much better than your usual Asian restaurants to justify the prices. However, portion sizes were generous. We probably would return to this place if we were already in the mall and looking for an Asian meal without hitting the food court. But I probably wouldn't leave home with the specific purpose of going to this restaurant.

Mmm so good! All of the food that we had was really good as well as the green tea. The environment was so relaxing and modern and the background music they had playing was really strange but put out a super happy vibe! The only downside would be their service. They were quick to get our orders and bring them out, but they didn't check on us for quite some time so we weren't able to top up on our drinks. Definitely still deserved a good tip thought as they were super all super nice! We will be back for sure if we ever come up to west ed again!

Spring rolls. So delicious and served PIPPING HOT!!! So yummy!!!!!!

Oh my! Words cannot even describe how DELICIOUS this restaurant is! My mother and I decided to try it for our weekly lunch date and we were not disappointed. We had the pad Thai and spring rolls. I am in love

So this is a restaurant in WEM's bourbon street that advertises itself as Fusion of Asian cultures; but it's really a Vietnamese restaurant. Beautiful interior though, with a huge Buddha at the entrance. The walls are laden with large artworks of Vietnamese culture. I was worried about seating as I had an infant with me, but there's actually 2 semi private rooms with large round tables, space for stroller parking and high chairs. There's about 3 individual unisex washrooms down a hallway on the second level which also offers a view of the restaurant. A handicap washroom is at the base of the washroom staircase, but they weren't equipped with a diaper change table. The server was able to pull together a changing surface by putting 4 chairs together which I appreciate. Service was quite attentive...we were actually given service by 2 servers, so we ended up having quality checks 3 times within the same 5 minutes. They have child friendly sized spoons, forks are huge though, but workable. You can also request a smaller bowl for your child as we found the child size pho to be a little too big for a toddler. Portion size is a decent amount for what you pay for. We got a papaya salad, chicken & spring rolls with rice, and child pho. The one thing I have to say is don't get the child pho. There's better value in the adult size. With the appetizer & main + child soup, it easily fed 2 adults and toddler, with potential for leftovers. But it came to just under $50 which is a lot compared to other Vietnamese places I've been to, probably because of location, ambience & service. If you have peanut allergies, check with your server, because some dishes come with a sprinkling of crushed peanuts. Flavour wise, it's comparable to other Vietnamese restaurants I've eaten at.

The iced coffee came and the glass that the ice came in still had half the bar code sticker on it.

My wife and I had the misfortune of visiting this restaurant January 4, 2023. As a couple we have been going to Vietnamese restaurants for over 30 years, myself for over 40 years. Our experience at this place was by far the worst we have every experienced for Vietnamese food. We ordered Pho, fresh salad rolls, and Vietnamese iced coffee. We asked for chili oil, the waiter said they didn't have any because they were too busy the week before (there's an Asian grocery store just above their restaurant). They brought us the bean sprouts and basil for the Pho, the basil was old, browned, dry and wilted with no lemon or limes. The Pho stock was disappointingly very weak with no depth of flavor. The salad rolls came and the rice paper that they wrapped the rolls in was dry, tough and chewy. The iced coffee came and the glass that the ice came in still had half the bar code sticker on it. We will never eat there again and have recommended our family and friends do the same. We paid for our over priced meal, told the manager of our experience and then left for good.

Mai Vietnamese Fusion offers a decent bowl of pho, especially when you've been shopping all day at the mall and getting a bit 'hangry'. The beef pho was comforting, giving you a nice soup hug. It came with the side of lime, bean sprouts, and basil leaves. The pork chop rice was nicely marinaded with a flavourful lemongrass hint. Service was efficient and attentive. The atmosphere was quite nice and provided a bit more private dining options with individual rooms for larger parties. The prices were fair, given that the restaurant is located in one of the areas with the highest lease rates in Western Canada. Give it a try if you're looking for a delicious bowl of soup noodles at the mall.

Beef stew was so good, red curry with chicken and marinated chicken with eggs and rice were delicious!

I didn't want to try it at first because it wasn't that busy and not so great reviews but after a full day of swimming at the water park with the family, we really wanted pho. We gave it a shot because this other pho place we went to had 4 stars and the food was not that great in the Edmonton area. We came here two days in a row and everything was delicious and the service was great! This will be my go to place from now on for all Vietnamese food. We're new to the area and it's hard to find Vietnamese restaurants with great food. The appetizers from egg rolls to summer rolls, pho and rice plates with marinated meat and curry were all delicious!

This is one of my favourite vietnamese places for soup and appetizers. The rice and vermicelli dishes are mediocre in comparison so make sure to order what they specialize in. Little has changed on the interior, except for the addition of a large fish tank. The menu is very typical of Vietnamese noodle houses, featuring a good selection of pho noodle soup, vermicelli noodle bowls, and rice dishes. I opted for a bowl of pho with medium sliced beef and brisket. My soup was full of meat which was reasonably tender and lean, and came in a broth that was well-seasoned. Colleen, my co-Volunteer Coordinator, ordered a bowl of Thai spicy pho, and she ordered it without any meat. She was happy with the flavour of her soup and its abundance of noodles. I started with a green onion cake, finding the two large rings of fried dough and green onions to be large and not too greasy, as well as a bit cheaper than I've had elsewhere. I also decided to do something I rarely do when I order pho - even though I find the complimentary green tea and broth from the soup to be more than enough liquid intake for one meal, I decided to try one of the iced drinks. Being a dreary winter day I felt some extra vitamin C was in order, and opted for a glass of fresh-squeezed orange juice. It was incredibly fresh and full of pulp - I literally felt like I was drinking an orange in liquid form. Prices are in line, if not lower, than other Vietnamese restaurants in the area. Our entire meal, which also included a can of pop for Colleen, cost less than $25 before the tip. Service was fast and friendly and neither of us had any complaints about the food. Winter is the perfect time for a steaming bowl of pho, so consider heading to Viet Huong.

Staff won't allow happy hour specials at discounted price despite being in happy hour time frame. Hoang long is a modern clean space with bamboo accents and a newly renovated area. There is a large patio out front for summer. But it being closed off made the entrance kinda blending in. I was looking for the entrance and walked right by it. Trying to figure out how you get in is a slight challenge. As the door blends in so well and it appears it's just the patio. But that's the entrance. I visited quite early during happy hour at around 6pm. The place was entirely empty except for staff which was slightly disheartening. But I'm sure this place is bustling during the lunch hours. Wait staff were slow to greet me so I sat myself and grabbed my own menus. The menu Is vast. A huge range of thai and vietnamese foods. From soups, sandwiches, grilled meats and stews. Looking through the menu was overwhelming but at least there is something for everyone. We decided on trying the chicken satays with peanut sauce. These were a famous item popular during the taste of edmonton. They did not disappoint. They charred them so nicely I could hear the fire crackling in the dead of winter. But the best part was the peanut sauce. They don't provide this during the taste of edmonton. But it brings the dish to new heights. I would say...stick to the grilled meats here. They don't disappoint. I throughly enjoyed my bun bo hue. It was authentic and tasty. It made my list for top 5 in edmonton for sure. Portion was perfect and the ratio of meats and noodles were just right. Another great dish. My only vice was that it was happy hour...advertised from 3-7pm. But the staff would not allow discounted prices despite it only being 6pm. They had decent options like wine, beer or a customized cocktail for $4. The server states happy hour is over despite it clearly stating it is until 7pm on the menu. I point to the board and he says it's full price. Whatever. I don't like misrepresentation on menus. And discrepancys are misleading. For this I minused a star. Service was haphazard. I seated myself. Got my own condiments and even got my own drinks. I had to go to the counter to order my food and pay at the register. All the server did was put the food on my table and clean it up afterwards. The whole process downgraded the whole modern vibe to more of a cafeteria style establishment. I felt jipped tipping bc i basically served myself. So minus another star. Overall. The food was great. Slightly overpriced. But the atmosphere reflects the price in the heart of downtown. Service was okay but the whole happy hour misrepresentation was a huge turnoff. I won't ever be buying drinks here in the future. Bc hey...they don't follow the advertised prices on the menu. It's decent. I would revisit if I am in the area. The combos they offer are a rice or noodle (pad thai that didn't look very appetizing) and then up to 3 or 4 items. The food was under heat lamps so I could see what the options were. I decided to get the fried rice and a few items. I choose a chicken first and looked at the other items before deciding on the vegetables with cashews. The woman serving me had the rectangle take out container about 2/3 full and she kept suggesting food such as the green beans and then the sweet and sour pork. Both didn't look very appetizing. I think she was hoping I would pay for as much food to get rid of since the lunch time crowd had passed but she wasn't generous with the quantity. I decided on the beef skewer and then was done. At half price I paid $7.35. I brought the food home and heated it up. I liked the beef skewer but the rest of the food wasn't very good. The food tasted greasy and I had to use my fingers to eat the chicken was it had lots of bones. I'm not sure if it's from this food, but I didn't feel well after. Definitely would not pay $14 for the food I had as lots of other great restaurants around. It would probably be better to go during the lunch hour when the food is hot and fresh but I'll pass next time I'm in the area.
