I don't live in Bellingham anymore sadly but every time I get a chance to visit and have some time to myself I really try to stop by Makeworth! The coffee is really solid, lots of floral notes and complexity. It's not a cup of joe, it's a fun experience! I honestly haven't tried any of their more interesting coffees but just a pour over is well worth the visit. Beyond the solid coffee, staff are great and they have an awesome system for paying and handling your points if you use Apple Pay. Finally the location is fantastic, really airy with lots of great seating. You never feel sad because you didn't get one of the good spots, just about everywhere in it is nice for a conversation with your friends, some light work or reading. read more

This place was great! We were visiting and decided to visit a local coffee shop. The kids got hot chocolate and a chocolate croissant. The chocolate croissant was from the day before and it was stale but the staff exchanged it for a fresh one without hesitation or any questions asked. Service was excellent. I got a hot lavender latte and it was delicious. My husband got a double shot espresso and it was very good as well; strong but with a hint of sweet berries. It had two stories so we sat on top and watched the rain while we enjoyed. Right by the college so it's busy with students doing some work. Place was clean and overall a good spot. read more

I've been living here for two years and this has been my go to place for coffee and great breakfast fare. Until today... The good: Their coffee is fantastic. One of the very few places in Bellingham that I will actually drink coffee. The ambiance is also fantastic...just like a shop I used to hit in the 90's in Albuquerque. Great humans working behind the counter. The not so good: They've changed their entire menu, and it's nearly inedible. It almost seems like they went lazy on this menu change. It is no longer the quality they used to have - across the entire menu. Very disappointing to say the least. Makeworth Market has become my new favorite place to hook up to wi-fi, grab a coffee, and get some serious work done on the ol' laptop. With its brightly lit space, even on the darkest of Bham days it feels light and cheerful inside. The space is laid out so you have plenty of options - whether I'm working alone at one of their bar-height window seats, sitting at one of their communal tables feeling the working-remotely vibe with other Hamsters, or meeting up for a business meeting in their quieter upstairs area there's a place for every mood and situation. Their coffee is also delicious. I usually get an oat milk latte, though last time I swung out (thanks Instagram) and got their version of a pumpkin spice latte (also with oat milk). It was almost too pretty to drink, but I forced myself to destroy the gorgeous latte art and really enjoyed its creamy, fall-themed flavors. And no trip to MM would be complete without enjoying a half order of one of their ahhhhmazing toasts. I love the tomato burrata, though the avocado toast (*with* added-on egg) is no slouch. I also find it hard to resist their countertop baked goods, cakes and cookies. Besides being a cool hangout, MM is also a place for local makers and small business owners to show off their wares. From jeans to bags to stationary to knick-knacks I always see something I'd love to buy as a gift (or, let's face it, for myself). It's always surprising to walk into downtown Bellingham on a sunny May day, and be totally surprised that there's a new business in town. Makeworth was definitely not on the corner of State and Chestnut last weekend, but it's there now, and wow. The space is lovely. Seriously. Bright, airy, and open. They have light bites, coffee, and beer/wine/cider (because come on, it's Bellingham, how can you not?). There's also a small shopping section of backpacks, journals, and selvedge denim. There's an abundance of seating, and it will be a fantastic place to do homework. They have interesting coffee combinations, but don't expect Starbucks. This is craft coffee. What really seems to set it apart was the service. My latte (honey lavender, bit sweet but still tasty) took way longer than expected, so after chatting with the owner about the jeans, he offered us a taste of a beer or wine on the menu due to the long wait. I know it's the Grand Opening, but still. They seem to be excited new owners and it's nice to see that level of enthusiasm in a town dominated by staples. The atmosphere in Makeworth is definitely upscale, and stands out in Bellingham for that reason. There is plenty of room, though I wonder about the volume inside when it gets busy - the capaciousness might turn into an echo chamber. My wife and I came mid-morning Sunday and there were around a half-dozen persons inside. The two women behind the counter were nice but in my view a fine coffee roastery establishment is like a craft beer distillery where the staff will want to greet you, offer you information about their various products and how they are made, both as marketing and as a way to help customers decide what might be preferable. I ordered a cortado and was asked if I wanted a dark or lighter roast. My wife ordered a flat white. After we had our orders in we wandered around the café looking at art, decorations, and the roasting machine (which was in use). Since there had been no one at the counter when we arrived I checked back in a few minutes and found that another customer had come in. Instead of making our drinks, his was made first. This is odd. There was a fair bit of chit-chat with the gentleman at the counter and I could overhear what appeared to be evidence that he was a regular or at least a local. In any case, when I got my cortado it was well-made. I have a cortado perhaps every week and so can make a decent comparison. Makeworth uses espresso that has a fruitier or nuttier profile than what I'm used to, which is more in the cocoa and graham cracker flavor spectrum. I found the fruitiness off-putting but not strongly so, and I drank it all. My wife found the flat white too strong and went back and asked them if they could modify it to make it less punchy. They did so, and I think it was more to my wife's taste. Prices are about what you expect for an upscale coffee place. Would I come back? Maybe. It is definitely one of the nicer places in the city, and I'd try their coffee and pastries. They had a savory croissant that looked very appealing, as well as plain and chocolate croissants. For the beer and seltzer lovers they have a dozen or so selections, presumably served during the evening. read more

Fun and unusual drinks (I love an experience) delicious and out of the box food (I had an Almond butter/bacon/banana sammy) and my favorite part was the matcha. Best matcha I have ever had, and I drink matcha everywhere I go that offers it and I make it at home. There service was great, their covid precautions were safe, and everything was yummy. Price point could be a little lower lunch at a coffee shop/cafe at $70 is steep for 3 sandwiches and 5 drinks. Charming, fresh and delicious - I found this newish business to Bellingham to be a delight. I should say new to me as I'm no longer a hamster, visit less than I'd like, and they've been on my list to try for a minute. The aesthetic is something I found soothing and relaxing. High vaulted ceilings and spaced out tables made my pandemic jitters subside and the service was calm and collected: which lending to the overall vibe. Kind, not snooty at all. I ordered the breakfast tacos and a honey lavender latte for my cohort (what up Erin!!) and I had the avocado toast with an egg and a oat milk latte with just a touch of vanilla. Loved it all. I have been wanting to come here since they opened and finally got a chance to check it out! This is such a clean, sleek, contemporary, yet warm and welcoming place. They offer yummy bites and desserts, variety of beers, wines, and a cider you MUST try, the Pink Guava Cider! It's a little pricy, $9.85 for a cider. Offers plenty of seating with a variety of small and larger tables for variety of group sizes, an upstairs area, and is perfect for a small meeting, place to study, grabbing drinks with friends, interview, or even a first grab coffee date. In downtown Bellingham, WA there is a coffee shop. Well, there are several coffee shops and that kinda seems like an obvious observation if you have ever been to the greater Seattle area in the past twenty years. I was doing some work in the Bellingham area recently and needed a place to work for a couple of hours. I wanted a good cuppa and researched coffee shops on Yelp. Makeworth Coffee had great ratings and a lot of them. I use Yelp to help me narrow down the myriad choices of places when I go out. Makeworth roasts their beans right in front of everyone. Their coffee has a great smooth flavor and I know this because I think I had the perfect Cortado. FOOD: Got the sugar waffles and thick cut bacon special. The waffle was exceptional, you could taste the cinnamon and spices within the bread and it was topped with whip and powdered sugar. The bacon was thickly cut and just right crispyness. The waffle and bacon paired perfectly in a sweet and salty dance. They also offered flavored syrups made in house - lavender and vanilla! The drip coffee was not bitter and was the just the right temperature. The lavender flavor in the latte was strong, if you like lavender that is the route to go! I ordered a caramel macchiato (they only offer one size, which is 12 oz.) and it came to $7.68 including tax. As the barista was making it, I went back to look at the menu, and it said "Macchiato - $4.25". When I picked up the drink I very nicely said to the barista "Hey, I think I was overcharged." The barista, seeming slightly offended, asked why I would say that, so I pointed out that it was $4.25 on the menu. She responded with "Oh, well you wanted a caramel macchiato, which we make the same as a caramel latte, which is the same as Starbucks." I responded that the price seemed very high for a 12 oz Machiatto, and the barista responded with more of the same attitude. I just now checked, and Starbucks charges $4.95 for a 12 oz. Caramel Macchiato. To be fair, their coffee is excellent and the ambiance is awesome, but between the barista's attitude and the price gouging, I don't think I'll be back anytime soon. read more

Makeworth is a some-what recent addition into the Downtown coffee shop scene, and myself like many other locals were curious to see how it would do. Judging from the full tables everytime I drive by, I think it's going well! I made my first foray inside today and was pleasantly surprised at how well they had used the space. It is an upscale coffee shop with lots of tables for students and remote workers to spread out. They went with a clean white color scheme with wall art and their marketing slogan "We Belong Together" thrown up there as well. Their menu is small and on the pricey side for Bellingham, but their coffee tastes great and is made quick. They have some fun drink specials, and the honey lavender latte suckered me in ($5.75). It tasted like real lavender and had a nice little sweetness from the honey, but neither were overwhelming. I did not try their food, but they have a small menu with breakfast foods. I would recommend some food you do not need both hands to eat for those of us who snack while working. All in all a good experience and I will be back to do more work on a sunny day! read more
