Easy location to find in Fairhaven. Just a few shops down from Village Books. The space smells amazing when you enter. We were a group of five plus a baby and found comfortable seating. There was a steady supply of customers and the seating was full however the tables turned over decently fast and there is outdoor seating as well. We each tried different drinks and overall they were good. My banana latte lacked any banana flavor but the coffee itself was great. The cornbread scone was something our group agreed we would skip (too crumbly and dry) but the cookies were nice. Overall glad we stopped to try it. We would come again. read more

Cafe Blue has been on my Bham bucket list for awhile now, and I finally got the chance to pop in a few weeks ago. What a quaint, wonderful little place. The line was long on a rainy Saturday morning, which can only mean one thing: good coffee was awaiting! I ordered a latte and savory scone to go, as there wasn't a chance in you-know-what of getting a seat. The latte was made super quickly, but the scone took forever - I was actually done with my latte before the scone arrived. Haha. Either way, they were both good. Hands down the best cafe in Bellingham. In the heart of charming Fairhaven, Cafe Blue is a full coffee shop with breakfast items and pastries. All three of us loved our orders. I got the pistachio latte with the strata, which comes with a small yogurt with toasted quinoa on top. My wife got the strawberry matcha and toast with soft boiled eggs. My mother-in-law got a latte and hazelnut toast. Everything was so good! The space is charming with both indoor and outdoor seating. Staff are excellent, especially Micah who took our order. I've been coming here for about 2 years now and absolutely love this place. It's 60 miles round trip from my driveway and I try to make it at least once a week. The food is made wish love, everyone who works here always has a smile and a kind word to say, they greet you by name and make you feel like you're part of their family. How I heard of this place: Our brother-in-law's sister recommended the establishment more than a year ago. While we are often in the area, and exploring new-to-us cafes, it took this long to make it in. And the enticing attribute: open-faced toasts. Ambiance: Sweet, blue, whimsical; a moment spent in the Mediterranean is the overwhelming feeling one receives upon entering, and savoring the foods. We love the brightness, the simple blue flower stenciled art, the plethora of flora and the busy-ness of the space with creative and unique displays, artwork, prints, furnishings and more. The room is cozy, with a living room set-up as well as breakfast nook style tables and chairs inside. Outside, a patio is available for drinking and dining as well. The space is bustling, full of conversation, people and the noises of a busy cafe. What I ordered: To sip on, we had one 12-oz mocha ($5.50) for me, an Americano ($4) for my sister, a 27-oz French Press ($8.00) for the hubby, a 12-oz Golden Milk ($5.00) for one child and the 12-oz Babycino ($4.50) - a cinnamon and honey steamer for the second child. This picture came up on the Bellingham subreddit. We came here a couple days ago and coffee was good but I didn't like the ambience. It was somehow off putting, but I couldn't quite figure out what it was. After seeing this post, it very much solidified my feelings. When you first walk in, immediately to your right is the dirty dish tub. And to the left side, you see this spray bottle. It is not a nice way to be welcomed. That stuff should be in the back. It's a very busy and cluttered space. Coupling that with dirty dishes and a spray bottle, it gives off a very uncleanliness vibe. The sign is also passive aggressive. I'd rather see a sign that says "For your convenience", not one that is demanding customers to wipe down tables. A single rag is also gross, how many times has it already been used? Should it be soaking in bleach water? Chemicals and dirty dishes shouldn't be the first two things any customer is close to upon entering a food establishment. I wish I can take my tip back. This is a pleasant cafe. I like their coffee combos; they combine flavors I wouldn't have thought of, and in the end I have been glad I took the chance. The small breakfast plates are really good. I have always loved eggs and I like the way they serve them. So: coffee, food, pastry all very good. Staff: very friendly and helpful, quite quick, as well. But. My one requirement for a cafe is a place to sit comfortably and work, but Cafe Blue has often been completely full when I went by. The place is popular but space is tight. Strongly recommend Cafe Blue and just wish it were a little closer to we're we live. Their lattes were absolutely delicious, smooth and creamy without being bitter, and the slice of pie and cookie we had were great too. They also offer some games and books, welcoming ambiance , and in addition the service was top notch. They seemed genuinely kind, and the guy who took our order even came around to help us find the chess pieces for a quick game. It'd be great if they'd be open longer. This has been open for about three months, I was told. A perfect spot when Iron Rooster Bakery is closed on Mon/Tues. Easy to locate in Fairhaven on 11th (across from Skylark's and diagonal from the double decker bus close to Harris). Ample street and lot parking. Look for McKenzie Alley and a historical marker for Mr. Larrabee, patron founder of Fairhaven. Upon entering, Cafe Blue is an indie cafe with a warm, welcoming vibe and eclectic aesthetic. Cool focal points, natural light, a variety of seating choices. Supporter of local events. Genuinely smiling counter staff and owner. Small batch, baked goods crafted onsite. Tasty savory toasts and other menu items. Amazing mocha. Folks having convos and meetups, as well as, the laptop crowd (yes on WiFi). All the key things that stood out during my first visit. I always love when a cafe serves their best coffee on drip. The baristas were kind and I noticed them bringing everyone their orders despite it being busy. I love going with friends, its the best coffee place in Bellingham! Having grown up here, I'm shocked I didn't find it sooner. The café is beautifully decorated and has the most incredible art and aesthetic, and the food is AMAZING. Every time I go, I get a mocha (very highly recommended for people who enjoy sweet coffee) and my friends get oatmilk lattes. Literally the best coffee I've ever had, and they have such good cookies. I can't say enough great things about this place. Apparently it has become my kids' go-to place, and after a visit I can see why. The staff here is super-welcoming to everyone who comes in, and knows many regulars.
