No icing on that cake . Honestly, I was shocked to hear what happened to my mom yesterday whn she went in to this bakery to order my birthday cupcakes. First she walked in and no one was in sight for well over 5 minutes. Whn someone came to the counter she asked what my mom wanted ? My mom asked do you make mini cupcakes I'm planning a bday party. The employee behind the counter said very curtly, "No" Then my mom started to ask another question but was cut off by the employee walking away as she said is there anything else ? Mom said yes, as I was just asking ... But then she was cut off again w the employee saying have a nice day and walked off . Leaving my mom in the same spot she was in. We really loved this bakery the first time we visited. The second time my daughter was one week past a cold which was not Covid bc we tested for it. (We are a VERY Covid cautious family, for reference). My daughter (age 5) has asthma, so she takes a while to kick the congestion part of any cold she has and will cough for weeks after just because her lungs are weak and can't get it out. She hadn't coughed all day. We walked into the bakery bc she was so excited to get a cookie or any kind of treat with her 3 year old sister. My daughter coughed into her sleeve a couple of times and the woman behind the counter immediately asked if she was sick. I explained it's been a week since she's actually been sick and that I could put a mask on her. The woman (in front of my daughter) told us to leave. I didn't say anything and just left bc I didn't want to cause an issue. But she didn't have to vocalize it in front of my 5 and 3 year old. Immediately my 5 year old was sad and said she would "hold her coughs in." I think next time, they need a sign in front of their window that if anyone is sick, they won't do business with people who have a cough. That way, I wouldn't have entered with my girls. I respect the decision, but part of me is like - what child this young doesn't have a slight cough. No fever, it's been an entire week since being actively sick. Our pediatrician even cleared her to go back to school at this point because she wasn't contagious anymore. It felt like a little much, especially in front of a child. At least pull me off to the side and whisper it or something bc my girls were waiting for it all day. And at the absolute least, place a sign in your business window saying you won't serve people with a cough. That would be helpful. read more

This is a lovely little bakery with some delicious offerings! The staff was lovely and knew menu items well. It's $5 a cupcake but worth every bit! I'm especially fond of the lemon raspberry cupcake. The cake pops not so much, they tasted off and a bit like canned frosting. read more

I was called by the rude and hostile owner that they couldn't make the cake i ordered days ago- giving me less than 24 hrs notice. I selected an alternate. Then i suggested they offer non dairy icing options. for people like me who can't digest the butter cream. I heard her make an audible gasp- and say i can't work with difficult people. I then was called back by her and she clarified my new choice. Minutes later received an email canceling my order and says she won't be insulted when making a custom cake. Ah that's their business making custom cakes And she suggested i shop at the Co-Op. The owners cancel culture and not-customer friendly or centric practice is shocking. Bham is full of bakeries who want your business and will listen to your request or recommendation. I parked in an open spot to run briefly into a business nearby not realizing that I was parking in a reserved spot. I came back to a large 1/2 sheet sticker with threatening language about taking my license plate and towing with industrial strength adhesive plastered to my drivers side window--she vandalized my vehicle and also obstructed my view for safe driving. I went into the store to apologize for parking in her spot and she started going on about how ignorance is no excuse and proclaimed herself proud to be a c-word and in a taunting sing-songy-voice told me to hurry on before the tow truck arrived ‍. I actually had intentions of going into the store to buy a desert before heading home. I've never, ever met such a vile individual running a small business. The adhesive on that sticker was intended to be difficult to remove, thankfully the nice kids at oreilys helped me with some stuff to get the sticker off. *Noted* shortage of decent human behavior and understanding and patience at that place. As a former small business owner myself, I treated everyone as a potential customer. New relationships and good impressions are what keep your business going. The owner has such a genuinely pure soul and sweet personality, and her assistant, Katelyn always greets and serves customers with an adorably bubbly personality. The cupcakes come in all sorts of unique flavors that all just seem to work perfectly, and are incredibly affordable for such high end treats. Yummy little cupcake shop! I stopped in here for an early birthday treat while visiting my cousin. I arrived 30 minutes before closing so she was out of a lot of flavors, but the ones I ended up with were yummy. I was torn between two so she actually ended up giving me one for free which was so nice of her. The woman working was also one of the nicest people I've ever come into contact with! She was very friendly and had a very bubbly personality. The flavors I ended up trying were raspberry almond and lemon blueberry. The raspberry was the best of the two. The almond buttercream was so good and not overly sweet. I wanted to go back to try a chocolate one but I ran out of time and I feel bad because she even said she would set one aside for me! This is the best cake I've ever eaten" my sons 15 year old birthday guest made it a point to tell me how good he thought the cake tasted after we'd had a big meal and celebration. It was exceptional. The service - I am so sorry that I did not get this bakers name. She was fabulous in so many ways. She was friendly, sweet, humble, accommodating and more. I know that's a lot to pick up in a short meeting , thus my wishing I got her name. This is a small operation. It's very personal and special. I was fortunate enough to happen upon this place and find her willing to put together a quick birthday cake same day. Further, when my plans changed an hour later, she stepped it up and put her plans aside to get me that cake within 90 minutes . Customized , beautiful and delicious! Unheard of ! Super frustrating, just called to ask a few questions for a dozen cupcakes for a couple of weeks from now. Obviously the person that answered sounded like the owner, I kept being referred to their website. Was told they didn't have time for a consult. If it wasn't on the website they wouldn't do it. Before calling I looked on the website and didn't think it was super user friendly. There was pricing depending on flexibility of flavors. I had some clarifying questions and wasn't given the time of day. They're only open 3 days a week noon to 8pm. In that time they aren't able to provide customer service? As soon as I entered the lady working started yelling at me about needing to have a mask on. Keep in mind this is months after even doctor's offices stopped requiring masks. They were definitely not fresh cupcakes made today. The icing is sweet, however I think the texture could be smoother. They arrived in a plastic container that wasn't post consumer recycled. I popped in here to get a Thanksgiving Pie the day before the holiday and I was really impressed. They had many COVID prevention methods in place to keep everyone safe. The staff was helpful and friendly. And they had a TON of pies to chose from! I got a "4 Way Pie" which was a fourth of a pie each of Pecan, Pumpkin, Custard and Key Lime. I tried the Key Lime and Pecan which were great, and I heard the other two flavors were also yummy. I thought this was a cool idea for a pie! I picked up a few boxes of cupcakes here for my niece's 3rd birthday party, at the request of my sister who has been raving about this place ever since moving to town last year. I'm personally not a huge fan of cakes and cupcakes--usually because they're usually too sweet for my sweet tooth--but these were amazing. Very gourmet options and interesting flavor combinations: the best ones were lemon/strawberry, which had cake with a light lemon flavor, a dollop of lemon filling inside the cake, and strawberry frosting on top flavored with real strawberries. I'd never had frosting with real fruit, but it made these regular-sized cupcakes seem like a feast of awesome flavor. Most importantly, there wasn't even a hint of fake saccharine sweetness like most cakes and cupcakes. The cupcakes ended up seeming like a gift to the parents who brought their toddlers to the party...all the parents were raving about the cupcakes. My sister had a 3 tiered thing she used to place cupcakes all around so when it was time for cake, the birthday kid blew out 3 candles on hers, and everybody else chose their preferred flavor from the tower of cupcakes. It was an awesome alternative to the traditional birthday cake, and allowed for 4 different gourmet flavors of cakes instead of just one big boring cake. 100% recommend this place for any special occasion cakes, or just to stop in for a treat. read more

For Christmas, the only thing I hinted that I wanted was the once-a-month cupcake gift certificate from Icing on the Cake. My husband, delightful man that he is, honored my request, making me a VERY happy woman this year. I thought my favorite cupcake was the Fleur de Sel with it's caramel infused chocolate cake, mile-high frosting and grains of salt on the top (since the first time I ate it, in the shop, I made noises that gave the experience a PG rating) but I do believe that the chocolate cupcake is my new favorite. These are the best cupcakes I have ever tasted! Of the six flavors I've tried, each was incredibly moist and flavorful! It's hard to believe one could incorporate so much flavor into one cupcake! From the taste of them, one would only assume they are using expertly chosen, high-quality ingredients in their cupcakes. The shop itself is elegant and tidy, yet pretty low-key and intimate. This quiet setting speaks volumes for the quality of their cake - less time spent on pleasing our eyes, more time spent on pleasing our taste buds! Just had 4 bakers choice cupcakes delivered by Viking Foods. I was a tad nervous as Im picky. I asked for simple chcolate and vanilla and no coffee. Everything had chocolate or vanilla and there was no coffee. Ive only eaten two but both were great! Cake was moist and icing wasnt too sweet. My favorite was chocolate with caramel filling with chocolate icing. The best cupcake ever and I never would have picked it myself. Ive been to Icing on the Cake for a couple of years and always get the same 3 cupcakes. Im encouraging everyone to branch out now. Its good stuff!! read more

How you can pass up the temptation after reading that? I may have to upgrade my rating after another visit, but can only give it 4 stars this time since I went in just before closing and there were only a few options left. I bought a tiramisu and a fleur de sel (dark chocolate, caramel filling, chocolate buttercream frosting with sea salt on top). The tiramisu was cute, but a little dry. The fluer de sel was impressive in flavor and moistness! These treats go for $2.50 each (no tax). I think that is a pretty standard price for a cupcake these days. read more
