I ordered that and 1 extra raspberry shortbread jam cookie. It was my first time to Pure Bliss and I'm pretty sure I've never paid $9.95 for a slice of cake in my life - French patisseries included. However. This was 3 slices of dense, buttery, baked heaven - the store is aptly named. I was literally ENCHANTED by its delicateness working so immaculately with the bold yet fully realized flavors. The staff were extra kind and threw in an extra cookie gratis since I had declared 1) it was my first Pure Bliss visit, and 2) it was my 1/2 birthday. Thank you to the owner. One has no greater joy in life, I think, than bringing happiness to others. Mission accomplished. Thank you to the baker. Wow again. This was 3 cakes in one and, while I've been working on my glutton chip, you broke my panel. I could NOT convince myself to parse the slice into 3 servings. Something I could easily have done if I had restraint, wasn't so starved for magic midst an oasis of mediocrity (or unpredictability). ...and also hadn't taken an edible before starting in. And, thank you to the staff. I chose that day to mark a line in the sand for not tipping people who "simply" bring me my item. I was wrong. Dead wrong. Your graciousness, professionalism and sheer kindness were worth a tip that should have equalled the price of the free 2nd cookie gift. I will absolutely be tipping you next time. Pure Bliss will hands down be a monthly treat as long as I dwell in Bellingham. Thank you for restoring some of my faith in humanity. No easy feat with a slice of cake but you did it. Well done. *Apologies to all, I got this September's end. But I am such a fan I think I must advocate for this cake to have a regular menu spot. And I'm not even normally a chocolate cake girl! Usually when a cake looks this beautiful it doesn't taste that great, but this was not the case! The cake was both visually pleasing and also very delicious. My one criticism I have would be the email communication. When I first ordered the cake via their website I received an email back that made me feel like I was inconveniencing them, and most emails after I got the same vibe. In the end everything worked out and my wife was head over heels for the cake which was the most important thing. We simply had to give it a try. And continue coming back. Type of cuisine: Turkish fare - from simit and borek, to cardamom or pistachio infused Turkish coffee, apricot and apple teas, baklava and lokum. We have always loved the foods, mostly imported directly from Turkey. Ambiance: Sweet and cozy, the space is full of beautiful Turkish art/craft - from lighting to seating, from merchandise to the tasty treats served, we love our bay window benches and small, tiled tables that barely hold everything we order. The brother-owners are always wreathed in smiles and humble, grateful service. The music is soft, but always a surprise - sometimes Turkish, sometimes rock, sometimes jazzy, always fun and unobtrusive. We also love the huge barrel "tables" used as outdoor seating under a covered "patio". What I ordered: I was sad to hear that they no longer make/serve their refreshing and lovely apricot tea, so I chose a sweet cardamom coffee. My sister each chose a turkish coffee and pistachio coffee. A hot chocolate for my husband and two apple teas for the children. We ordered one of each selection of baklava available - pistachio, walnut, chocolate pistachio, halva and another walnut treat. Not to mention peach and blackberry lokum. We also ordered a potato & cheese sandwich; they ran out of the bread so substituted potato borek topped with cheese for our savory snack. What I loved: Always the service; quiet, humble, spot on. The coffee is truly magnificent and fully takes you back to Turkey. The baklava is sweet and soaked in honey, just like the cafes in Istanbul, and the beautiful lighting mesmerizes each of us every time. Why I loved it: It's always a little escape entering the doors of Ashuri, and like a mini vacation in a home away from home. Cost: Average

I have tried cupcakes from as far as Los Angeles to Seattle, and so far Icing on the Cake has beat them all. Every time I walk past this elegant little shop, my nose is filled with the smell of cupcakes baked fresh in the morning and into the day. When I give in to the smell and enter the shop, I am often pleased by the selection of flavors offered. My favorite cupcake changes weekly! Flavors like Cinnamon Red Velvet, Toasted Toffee, Peppermint, Lemon, are so exciting! And of course, the original Chocolate and Vanilla is always there. Next time you're in the mood for a moist, fresh, made from scratch cupcake, I suggest speeding over to Icing on the Cake. Although parking is hard to find downtown, Bay Street is the best place to park and isn't far away from the shop. I'm so pleased that Bellingham finally has a quality cupcake shop. No more buying Crisco-pumped mix cakes from the store! read more

I had my wedding cupcakes made here quite sometime ago. The owner is so nice and sweet. She did a fantastic job, was extremely friendly and decorated the cupcakes to perfection. The taste is out of this world. This cupcake place is by all means better than any other cupcake I have had in Bellingham or Seattle. The frosting tastes rich and homemade without being too sweet. They are always moist. She also has such fantastic ideas for cupcakes. Things I would never even think to put together. I went here with my wife over the weekend and they were just as good as I remembered, and she remembered us which was also very nice. There were about six flavors of cupcakes available, along with some cookies and chocolates. The cupcakes come in three sizes: mini for $1, regular for $2.50, and large for $5. However on my first visit there were no minis available, and on my second visit the minis only came in one flavor. Carol mentioned that she'll be having one special cupcake every day, and from what I can tell that one will be the large. The first cupcake I tried was the daily special... a sweet potato cupcake topped with toasted marshmallows and walnuts. I loved the sweet potato cake, but I think I would have preferred a cream cheese frosting over the marshmallows. Also it didn't wow me enough to be worth the $5 price tag. On my second visit I had two of the regular size cupcakes. One was a half chocolate/half vanilla cupcake (cutely named something like "can't make up my mind"), and the other was a creamsicle cupcake. Overall I've found the cake to be perfectly moist, and the frosting nice and sweet, with a good balance between the two. The only improvement I'd suggest is more pronounced flavors, as I couldn't really taste much orange in the creamsicle. But I am glad that Carol is being inventive with the flavors and not just sticking to the usual chocolate with chocolate, chocolate with vanilla, vanilla with vanilla, vanilla with chocolate, etc. To be honest, in a larger city I don't think Carol's Cake Designs would last against stronger competition.
