I was in town with my boyfriend last weekend, visiting his aunt and uncle and had a hankering for carrot cake so we stopped into this cupcakery. Lo and behold they had carrot cake! So I ordered one of those and three other cupcakes for 11 dollars. I would have enjoyed them more if the ratio of frosting to cake wasn't 50/50, as I like a bit more cake than that. Also, the frosting on the carrot cake wasn't quite a true cream cheese frosting, but a more fluffy, artificial tasting counterpart. So -1 star for that. They were decent cupcakes though. The -2 stars is for the way the cashier reacted when my boyfriend's aunt tried to take a photo of me buying the cupcakes. She had no ill intent, she was only documenting parts of the trip, and the cashier just started mumbling under her breath about her being rude for assuming that she wanted to be in the photo. I get it, you don't want to be in the stupid picture- I too work in a customer service position, I know what it's like. But do you have to passive aggressively mumble about it and make everyone feel awkward? Just flat out say that you don't want to be in it, jesus christ. It made everyone so uncomfortable that my boyfriend suggested I shouldn't have bought the cupcakes and honestly I didn't really want to after that happened but my card had already been swiped. read more

My wife and I were in town for the weekend and saw this place while we were on our way to lunch (at the Mount Bakery Cafe). We decided to get some cupcakes for friends we were seeing later. Oh man, these were fantastic! The selection is a lot of fun: really beautiful flavors. The cupcakes tasted wonderful and looked beautiful. And the chef was really friendly; we were delighted being in her store and she was really fun helping us choose a half dozen cupcakes. I hate giving this place one star because the owner is super nice. But it is extremely frustrating that every time I go by during business hours, there is a closed sign. I walked by today with the intention of getting something, and there were two "closed" signs up, yet the door was open and I could see someone inside. I'm all for being laid back, but people have lives and jobs with limited breaks, breaks that done revolve around you. Don't post hours if you aren't going to stick to them. Talk to anyone that owns a bakery and they'll tell you they have to get up early, because the whole point is to make the stuff BEFORE people get there! The other reason for the one star is for the one time that I was able to find the place open. I went in with a friend to pick up something she had ordered well in advance with much notice, yet it wasn't ready. The owner didn't seem to have any sense of urgency and just stood there trying to recommend cupcake flavors to us. Icing on the cake left me with a slightly salty taste in my mouth and it wasnt because of the salted caramel cupcake. I ordered 6 cupcakes bakers choice, which is priced at $19.50. The cupcakes were really delicious, according to my husband, the coconut cupcake was one of the best things he has ever eaten. But 19.50 is a lot to pay when you cant even make a simple request for a cupcake listed on the menu...and I ordered well in advance. I requested a tiramisu, and asked the Baker to please give me an adventurous selection. I got chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, coconut, lemon, and salted caramel..hardly adventurous, and my request was not honored. The salty icing on the cake was, I had ordered a birthday message and candle for an extra dollar and what I got was a plain colorless candle and a happy birthday written in red sharpie as an afterthought...an entire package of those candles probably costs a dollar...I was expecting something a little nicer...for 20 bucks a half dozen, they should just throw it in for free. Overall, the cupcakes were good but the details and willingness to please the customer were lacking. On top of everything else, I do not like the fact that they use plastic clamshell packaging in a time that use of disposable plastics is killing our species. I will not continue business with a company that uses unsustainable packaging. read more

Currently devouring a delicious gluten free vanilla cupcake! I visited this cupcake shop for the first time today and will definitely be back again. All of the cupcakes looked decadent and I appreciated the variety of flavors available which ranged from classic vanilla to peanut butter and honey. I was hungry for some chocolate. I read the review about the fleur de sel and was severely disappointed to see they had a gluten free coconut, a lemon, a lime coconut, and a tiramisu. I was surprised that the reviews did not match the five products on display... They did not even have chocolate truffles. they had truffles that were coated with a thin shell of hard chocolate. I'm pretty sure they were not made in house. I asked why the reviews did not match the establishment. I was not surprised to find that it had been sold about a year ago. I don't know where the original owner is but icing on the cake needs an update. I doubt that the products are sold at The Public Market anymore. There was not one chocolate cupcake, 1 cupcake with chocolate topping, or the mouth-watering qualities of previous reviews. read more

Note, this five star review is coming from someone who hates frosting and is not a big fan of cupcakes or cake in general. That said, I was talked into giving this store a shot. I was in Bellingham with my family, and my mom convinced everybody that before we depart we should "go try that cupcake place!" And you know that saying "mother knows best?" Well, in this case it is very ture. I was not thrilled by the idea at first, but I went in anyway. The shop was cute, and the girl behind the counter (who I assume owns the place?) was very nice. Between a few different types of cupcakes, I decided on the Vanilla Coconut. Oh. My. Lordy. The cake part of the cupcake was the most delightful, fluffy vanilla cake imaginable. I LOVED the frosting, despite my doubts. The flavor and texture were perfect. And the coconut sprinkles were, of course, the perfect topping. My dad, who got the carrot cupcake and also doesn't like cake, enjoyed the experience and said his cupcake was awesome. I'll be back the next time I'm in the area! read more

We discovered this wonderful bakery a couple of years ago. Whenever we are in town we make a point of stopping by for a treat. The cupcakes are incredible and have set the bar quite high for any other cupcake. The cookies are fabulous as well. The owner of the bakery is by far one of the nicest people we have met on our travels and we enjoy chatting each time we stop in. I understand she is moving about a block away into a bigger space which I imagine will be fabulous as I would expect nothing less. I was walking downtown Bellingham one day when I noticed this little cupcake shop. I wondered in and decided to give them a try. Wow! These were the sweetest, richest, best tasting cupcakes I've had in a long time! They are all heavenly, but my favorite by far is the chocolate. The cupcakes are always moist, the frosting rich and creamy, and the service is great! Owner/ baker is so nice. I ordered a few dozen cupcakes for my birthday party in April and my order was handled so perfectly and professionally. She even gave my daughter a free mini cupcake when we picked up our order. I am always anxiously awaiting for special limited flavors to come out so I can try them all! I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. It is my favorite place for cupcakes (but really any baked good) in Bellingham! Her cupcakes are just amazing. Never too sweet and always made from scratch! The owner is adorable, and she always recognizes me, even if I haven't been in for six months. Every flavor I've ever had has blown me away with how delicious it is. She has the standard vanilla and chocolate, but she also goes above and beyond with amazing gourmet flavors. Best dessert creations in Bellingham, in my opinion! On top of being passionate, careful, detail-oriented, and organized, the owner is also incredibly friendly, and offered my husband and I multiple free samples both times we went in. We commissioned a small cutting cake for our wedding, and it turned out perfectly. She was able to make it look just like a picture we brought in, on top of having several flavors and fillings involved. She remembered our event and faces without even needing reminders, and was timely and very professional. The quality of everything we've tried there is fantastic. Fresh cupcakes with lots of flavor options. The peanut butter one was my favorite. The mint, cookies and cream and chocolate were all good as well. Personally I like frosting that's just a touch less sugary but it was right amount of frosting for this level of sweetness. Customer service also very friendly. This place is under new ownership so I can't say if it's better than it used to be, but I do know that these cupcakes are some of the best I've had. My partner and I are getting married this month and we've been on the hunt for cupcakes that aren't dry and crumbly with horribly sweet frosting. That search has been harder than we imagined. We even tried a pretty popular Seattle cupcakery and were pretty "eh" about it. Why is it so hard to find a cupcake that doesn't fall apart in your hands from being so dry? And why do places pile on the frosting when it's so disgusting and sweet that it hurts your mouth? Well look no further! This place is awesome and the lady who bought it (I can't believe I didn't get her name) is the nicest person!! She is doing our cupcakes and making a design with fondant for us (she also threw in two free cupcakes to try out when we first went in). These cupcakes are amaaaazing. A few times when I've headed out of town to visit someone, I've brought along a couple of cupcakes from Icing on the Cake. I divide the cupcakes into quarters and we then eat them by the morsel, savoring the thick heavenly frosting with the delicious cake. Even straight vanilla on vanilla is amazingly good.
