Do not use these people. They do not care for your items in any tangible way. Not only do they never answer the phone using COVID -19 as an excuse, they initially broke one of our bar stools. Then, in order to appease us, they gave us one month free. What a mistake that was. When they finally delivered our furniture, they broke the leg off of one of our formal sofas, and a leg completely off of our matching coffee table. They do not take proper care of your furniture. Be aware that Makespace is now Clutter and they will NOT let you come to the warehouse to pick up your items. I was told I would have to hire them or another moving company but that they are normally cheaper than others keep in mind there is a flat fee of $249 plus $78 an hour per employee I was told they will use a minimum 2 employees for safety and also a fee for each item price can vary depending on the item. this can really add up if you need multiple delivery dates; say you only need some of your items well there is the flat fee plus and so on each time. I wish Makespace would have stuck around, I did find regular type storage at Stax-up that has better pricing read more

They will not pick up the phone, won't provide an address where your items are stored. I've been trying to call them for over an hour with no one picking up and no one helping me. The selling point for me was that they pick up the items, plus they provide bags to put items in that they then put in bins. The cherry on top is that the price is very competitive and I think, less than I found with traditional self storage facilities. MakeSpace sent me a lot of messages (more then necessary in my view) to prep for pickup and the team showed up during the time frame I picked. Osmin and Sergio were professional, friendly, competent and the whole thing took less than 10 min. I'm happy I picked MakeSpace--so far, so good. What a find!!! So easy, seamless & convenient. My professional & friendly team moved me back in October. The system is so streamline where they text before they arrive (on time), pack up, wrap and document your belongings (tag/scan/photograph) in a careful & highly efficient manner. I have since then had them deliver my selected belongings (via MakeSpace App) on several occasions. I also see them at my work, as my friend has them deliver her stuff to our spa. Don't use this shady company! I chose them because of their good reviews and great prices and left San Diego for work travel for a while. I get an email from them stating that their prices are changing. Instead of the $59 drop-off fee, it is now $799 (!!!!) for my storage size. An absolute disregard for people and their promises. I cannot wait to get my stuff out of there and away from a company that would rather charge more than have a customer for life. Please do some more research and choose a company that's going to honor their contract and not cause so much stress that you have to fly back just to deal with it. read more

These guys are efficient and very user friendly. Pickup was hassle free and the guys were very attentive to fragile items The sign up process was super easy. They give you a call and walk you thru everything. Honestly the service is priced really well. The pick up is free and the first hour of drop off is free as well. At a 3 month commitment, they are way cheaper than anytime I hired movers for a single day move I stored my entire 1 bedroom apartment with them while I travel for the next couple of months. This is the shittiest service and costumer service ever. They "need" a 2-3 week notice for you to retrieve your belongings. A $60 fee for picking up or delivering your stuff at their convenience. A $100 cancelation fee for any appointment and they URGE all consumers to be there on time even though they can't answer the phone. Calls are mysteriously dropped. If I could leave negative stars I would. I had my first appointment scheduled for pickup of my entire apartment. I needed everything cleared out because I am having the flooring replaced due to a flood. They showed up, looked at my stuff and said it was too disorganized. Everything was in boxes or in the bags they provided. My apartment is small and there are several stairs they would have to go up and down. I guess it would of been too much work for them. They bailed on me when I needed them the most. They lost out on my business. I found another great company that came out the same day and got right to helping no problem. Movers were hard working and great - the company is a disaster. Basically crooks, and couldn't give a stronger warning to not use them. We're being charged double what we were quoted for - way more than the 3 bedroom price listed on their website, even though we lived in a 2 bedroom apartment. Unless this pricing debacle is resolved, we will be getting our items back as soon as possible and moving them into a regular, self storage facility. This company was perfect for us when my older daughter moved out but didn't need her things yet. MakeSpace packed up her room, took photos and stored her things until she moved into her new place. We used our free hour that month to move in the things she wanted and store the rest. I love that the app photos make it easy to choose what you want and helps you remember what you still have left in storage. I decided to use MakeSpace for my move - the service comes at a premium price for both cost of the move and cost of monthly storage (slightly higher than the average local mover for moving services, as well as a much higher storage rental rate than local self-storage facilities), but I considered the convenience of the app and redelivery service to be worth the additional cost relative to other options. I had some small issues with the initial move that the company resolved very quickly through a couple phone calls to customer service. But the re-delivery of my items has proven to be a nightmare. First, you select specifically what items in storage you would like to have redelivered through the MakeSpace app, but the company is extremely unclear about the cost to redeliver those items. I first received confirmation that the redelivery of my selected items would be $59, then I received an email stating the redelivery would be $159, and then was ultimately charged $299. To be clear, the items I selected to move were exactly the items that were redelivered - nothing changed in my appointment to warrant the constant change in pricing. But what choice do you have at that point? The company has your stuff, you are going to pay them whatever they choose to charge you to get it back. It is a very shady practice on their part, and had I known that would be the case, I never would have worked with them. Worse than the lack of pricing transparency, when my dresser set was re-delivered, it was flat out broken - wooden feet had been busted off and knobs fully broken. The company proactively sent me an email warning me that the item had been damaged in the move (!!), and invited me to complete an insurance claim - I filled out the claim, and they offered me the insurance value of the broken dresser - $90 for an $800 piece of furniture. So I paid a premium to have the dresser moved, stored, and redelivered broken. On top of that, now I need to buy a new dresser to replace the one I paid MakeSpace to break. I feel this company lures you in with the promise of high quality and convenient service app & service, and then is intentionally unclear about the cost to redeliver your items and takes no responsibility for damage to your items. I absolutely would not recommend this service to anyone looking for movers or storage locally. read more

This is my second time using MakeSpace. I was initially suspicious of all the 5 star reviews--I figured folks might be getting a discount for a good review. But the standard price was already good. They are very flexible. The organization and efficiency is excellent. I appreciate the photo records they keep. I've never felt pressured to upsize. To the contrary, they seem to compact the storage as much as possible for the lowest possible rate. I trust them! Today, Josh and Bryan came and carried all the prepared bags downstairs then wrapped furniture, paintings, instruments and odds and ends that I hadn't remembered to include in the estimate. What I truly appreciated was that despite my adding a lot to the initial order, and despite the very large number of unusually shaped items that I have, there was not even a glimmer of irritation or raised eyebrow. I saw only total professionalism and had the feeling that they were really there to do whatever I needed for a successful move. Friendly, timely, careful with my items and with safety measures (Covid 19) and as an earlier reviewer wrote, they seemed happy at their job--no complaining or spending time on their phones. I just had my second appointment with MakeSpace and I'm super impressed with the movers and the service in general. The first time they came to my home which is an upstairs apartment unit. I'm going through cancer treatments so physically these stairs are too much for me especially to carry things up and down. I already had a 5x5 self storage unit that I didn't like. It was hard to get items into the unit and it was filthy. So the fact they come up and take everything down and professionally wrap items that don't fit into the tote bags they provide is awesome. They are fast and careful. Today I had them pick up at my old storage so I could finally clean it out and stop paying for it. They were awesome. Super nice guys, they seemed happy and not annoyed by doing all this work (I've dealt with many people that provide labor type services and quite a few seem mad about doing it), they wrapped up my large art pieces for me and were really efficient and helpful. Price wise it's way better then my self storage. I was paying $55/month at this place that I could barley fit stuff into and I pay $79 for a larger space with MakeSpace and I'm able to store so much more, plus not having to do the labor and rent a truck to lug the big stuff. It's well worth it. I wish I could tip them more then I do. You get 1 free hour appointment each month. Which is perfect. I highly recommend them. I know many of us San Diego residents don't have a lot of storage. So it's well worth it. read more

Honestly, this place made life so much easier than I expected. The customer service rep was really easy to talk to and made things clear so there wouldn't be miscommunication! He was really nice and obviously cared more about helping me than making a sale which I appreciated. Mike and Josh (the Spacemakers) were on time super friendly, and worked really quickly. They did everything I needed in less than an hour! I was genuinely surprised how quick they did that. They made sure to take care of my things, and made things so easy. I really thought I would only need to use them for three months but this was so helpful I'm sure I'm gonna find lots of uses for them and be using them for a long time. 5 stars to a terrific company with amazing employees. On time- very efficient- polite- respectful. Company provides you with durable container bags to pack up then they transfer bags to containers. When you need your stuff, you take the bag and get to keep them. The best part of this company is their star employees though. Sergio, Mekiah, and Jospeh took time to care about properly handling my items. They didn't just throw stuff into the truck to save time. They made sure to secure each item and were so friendly the entire time. They even went to 2 locations to pick up stuff. packing/moving is so stressful. After my things were already stored at MakeSpace they sent an email that their terms and conditions had changed. I was forced to either agree to the new conditions or discontinue service and move all of my things out within 1 month. Apparently one of these changes was that delivery price was drastically increased from a flat rate of $59 to a price based on your unit size - $549 in my case-- literally 10x the original price. I was out of state when this email was sent so did not even have the option to remove my things if I wanted to. One of the main reasons I chose this company was based on their seemingly fair prices. The fact that they will not honor the terms you agree to when signing up, effectively forcing you to pay a lot more money if you aren't in a position to pick up your things immediately, should tell you all you need to know. read more

I am happy to give 5 stars to the MakeSpace team! So far every interaction has been excellent, from the sales & customer service agents to the guys picking up my things. They call and text ahead to give reminders about your upcoming appointment. They have really easy to follow instructions on how to pack, and the materials/supplies they send are nice quality and well thought out. I just had my first pick-up today and want to give a special shoutout to my team of Josh Cordova and Jose Ramirez. They were super friendly and really helpful. They handled all my delicate Christmas decorations carefully (without me having to say a word) and I think that's really important when you are entrusting your stuff to someone. You want to know it's not getting thrown around carelessly. They even offered to duct tape the edge of my ripping Christmas tree bag when they get back to the warehouse. I am so happy that I made the decision to use MakeSpace. I think it will be so much easier to have them bring me items as I need (such as seasonal decor) and then take it all away when I'm done. Much easier on my back (and a total time saver) than me driving to the storage place, lugging it to my car, loading, and unloading at home, etc, etc! ;) I also had stuff in my garage rafters that I added to my MakeSpace inventory since it was nearly impossible for me to get down and back up again. I just had all the furniture in my 4 Bedroom home picked up by Make Space and it was a dream come true as opposed to my prior move with another company that was a nightmare. Down sizing to a tiny home for a while. Packing up my place was hard enough but, all I had to do was put my things into MakeSpace's cute little green bags and they literally do the rest. The moved my big furniture and took apart my king size monster bed!
