Not sure if it's management or inconsiderate campers (who's to know). The wood they sell doesn't burn... super weird. I used 4 fire starters, a torch lighter, cutting the wood into smaller pieces, stoking the fire... NOTHING would work. The wood would get black, but it would not ignite. Now for the pros. It was very quiet. Peaceful even. We stayed in campsite 46 and it was quite spacious! We were far from the restrooms and playgrounds. Enjoyed the breeze. Initially I was scared we might get the smell from the river, but we didn't. They allow pets, however... the land might not be as dog friendly. There are A LOT of fox tails and other not-so-fun weeds that get stuck in their paws and or fur. I had to go to Walmart to get some gauze (if you don't have dog shoes you can use gauze as an alternative, just be careful not to make them too tight) to cover my toy poodles paws because it was really bad. The hikes were a treat. Hopefully you run into some horses on your nature walk. Staff was friendly... It is dry camping, so no hookups. $29/night I saw a lot of people with bikes. We had a nice trip. Tent camping can be a lot work, but man is it fun! Tips: 1) Bring ear plugs, helicopters can be a little noisy 2) if your site is far from the restrooms, bring an emergency toilet. Super easy to make w the Walmart porta potty bags, a 5 gallon bucket and a pool noodle to go around the edge of the bucket. 3) bug repellent around your tent 4) on the sdparks website, if you see some sites labeled 'EQ' it stands for equestrian (those sites have stables for horses)

This review reflects our experience specifically as cottage guests, since those staying in RV spaces may have a very different experience. It was also our first visit to this RV resort, and we did not participate in many of the on-site activities. That said, we truly enjoyed our stay. The resort was very clean, the staff was welcoming and engaging with guests, and we appreciated how dog-friendly the property is. The location is also excellent -- conveniently close to the I-5 freeway, nearby walking and bicycling trails, downtown Chula Vista, and the newly built Gaylord Resort property less than half a mile to the south. While amenities such as the pickleball courts, swimming pool, hot tubs, and putting green looked inviting, we did not personally use them during this visit. We ate dinner at the on-site café both evenings, and every dish we ordered was reasonably priced, generously portioned, and served fresh and hot. The staff was friendly and attentive throughout. We tried the Baja Burger, Fish & Chips, Steak & Frites, Cheesesteak, crinkle-cut fries, pretzel buns, and churros -- all were delicious, and we would happily order them again without hesitation. Our bayside cottage was clean, well maintained, and offered beautiful views of the wildlife preserve between the resort and San Diego Bay. The two-bedroom layout provided more than enough space for us and our medium-sized dog. We especially enjoyed the fire pit, along with the covered first-level patio and uncovered second-level patio facing the bay. Although we didn't use the barbecue grill, it was spotless and clearly ready for guests to use for grilling steaks, burgers, hot dogs, or anything else they wished. One day I needed a pvt place to join friends during a long distance celebration of life. "Modi" (I hope Im spelling her name correctly,) with ultimate compassion she showed me a quiet spot I could be by myself. Then came back after cleaning the cabin with a cup of tea! I trust she will be rewarded and not reprimanded for extending such consideration and tenderness. Also we lucked out being here for the month and joining the Pleasure-Way owner's annual rally. Being close to trolley allowed us to get around easily with bike or on foot. Fantastic clean new playground near shuttle to Living Coast!
