I had a great experience with MakeSpace over the weekend from my initial order over the phone, the app, and follow up reminders on my phone. The guys showed up 30 minutes early (rare in this world) and were gone within about 30 minutes. Everything went smoothly -- stored 29 boxes and two pieces of large luggage from condo and downstairs storage unit. No damage, professional and efficient. I'll update this review some day when I collect belongings to find out if anything is damaged or missing. For now I would highly recommend! read more

Update. My original review was 3 stars. That was before I realized MakeSpace did not deliver all of my belongings after I requested 100% of my property back. They kept/forgot about 30% of my items. They ultimately resolved the issue and delivered my missing items, but what a hassle. Afterward, they then charged me for the month they erroneously kept my items, and the cost was almost $40 more than when they had all of my property which does not even make sense. I think MakeSpace may be going through growing pains and will right the ship over time, but TODAY I am disappointed. read more

While I am a fan tech startups, this startup really needs to better communicate because the user experience is little unnerving. I am rating fair because of the delivery and pick up guys. They are the ones that are working harder to make the customers happier. They sweat hard and engage to make the customers feel comfortable with storing their items at an undisclosed location. I gave them a 5 on pickup because the pickup team was extremely accommodating and gentle with my items. However, my pickup rate was misquoted after several weeks. While I know things happen, it was a significant increase, not 15%. So this past weekend when drop-off occurred, I received a text to say that my appointment is on 2017-9-23 from 8am - 10am. That meant that they would arrive at 8am and finish at 10am. However, that wasn't the case, they arrived after 10am. During that time, I never received a call but I did receive an email at 8:27 am that two of my items were damaged. That resulted in me having to call to speak with the manager, Sean only to discover that the time was a window and not the actual time. He told they don't call customers because they don't want to bother customers early in the morning. I believe a call is warranted when items are broken or damaged and is followed up with an email. That is how most service businesses operate. They would call you, leave a voice mail message and then send you a follow-up email. Sean did say he would provide a credit on my account which I don't see yet which I will use to tip the nice guys. Now, let me clarify, my delivery guys, Rick and Craig were great with delivering my items and making me feel better that the items could be fixed. And they did make every effort to fix it for me and for that I am grateful to them. I am not sure I would use Makespace again unless they solve their communication and customer service problems. They can't make it much easier for you then this! They mailed me storage duffle bags. As many as you want they send you. Then you schedule your pickup. While waiting for your pickup date, you pack all the bags you can. Make sure to clearly label the bags with a marker. This is the only way you can identify them from a picture. Make-space arrived with a moving truck and (3) workers. They wrapped my sectional couch as a professional mover would, and then they took all the duffle bags and placed them in hard shelled storage tubs. They scanned them all and take a picture of them. Do not make this mistake. When I heard about this service I thought it was a good idea. I have a small amount of stuff to store. I'm being charged $76 for a 2' by 4' storage space and I'm locked in for a year. If I want my stuff back it will cost me more than if I hired someone off of the Dolly ap and even if I take all of my stuff out, the monthly charges continue on for the year. My stuff is located all the way out in Pilsen where storage space is quite cheap, but I'm paying premium prices. I could store the same amount of stuff 8 blocks away from me at a storage centerfor $29 a month. I will end up spending $812 for this year not including seasonal delivery and pick up. The crates they lend you are nice, but you can purchase them cheaply yourself. This is not a cost effective way to store seasonal items. Beware. You can easily take photos of packed open crates yourself. Very foolish on my part, hope you don't make the same mistake. Do your homework. read more

Had a great experience with makespace great quality movers took the time to wrap all of the furniture before moving it, which made my wife feel extra comfortable about them moving our newborns baby furniture. Jasyn, Jeffrey, and anthony were the guys moving the furniture and they were professional the entire time. I am temporarily moving to a different state, and I needed all my stuff to be kept in storage for a few months. I've had makespace come and pick up all of my stuff during a moving process quickly and for a really good price. It was very convenient to have them come and move out all of my stuff and store it at their facility, all for a cost-effective price. The 3 guys who came over worked very hard and efficiently, and were patient with me and my cat. I know how hard and difficult moving my stuff is, since I've moved around a lot in a past, but these guys did it without complaints even though it was really very hot and humid Chicago summer day. Yikes. They accommodated all of my boxes and furniture. They also provided me with many green bins, which came in handy to add last minute stuff that I needed to pack. Thank you very much to the makespace movers who came over and helped with the move out process. I hope the drop off/move in process is equally easy. However, makespace as a whole needs to hire more employees. They need more movers and they need someone answering their phones. They're always so busy, and their availability is horrible because there aren't enough of them working to handle the extra calls and handle more pickup/delivery. The current employees are way overworked. I've called them 10 times in the past several days, left my name, number, and a message pleading with them to call me back. I still have not had a response from them. I'll continue to call them and leave messages until I get a hold of them. In the meantime, this is really unacceptable. Please hire dedicated phone people and please hire more pickup/drop off people. However, I am pleased overall by the way they came to my apartment and moved out all of my stuff. read more

We recently discovered MakeSpace and decided to use their services when we moved to our new home. Because we had work to do on the new house, we knew we would need a place to store some things for a few months. MakeSpace was an awesome choice! The service is incredible. Patrick, Brock and Rudy are really great. They were very careful and treated our items with caution when they both loaded up and returned our things. They are real pros. They are nice, hard working and efficient. Although there were a few minor mix ups at the warehouse, things were straightened out with minimal effort on our part. I recommend them. When I was moving-in to my new place, there was an issue with timing (I called the customer care line to ensure that they would be coming after 9, they assured me that they would, and then I received a text the morning of saying that the movers would be there at 8 am!! I just had the delivery of all of my MakeSpace stored items - bins and furniture - into my new house. 5 of the MakeSpace guys came (Joe, Adam, Alfredo, Jasyn & Marquis), with 2 trucks, and they were so efficient and awesome. I did get surprised by the main office when they said a few weeks earlier (after taking all of my things) that the suburbs are outside of their normal delivery radius, but we worked it out via a per mile surcharge for the delivery. The communication from the Corporate level could be improved (no suburb service in Chicago is definitely something that should be made crystal clear up front), but the delivery guys themselves are legit. read more

We've used Makespace for about a year now, for these functions: Reduce clutter when staging our old house Moving stuff out of second floor during water damage and renovation in new house Moving stuff out of garage when tearing down to build a new one Really love the professionalism of the team and very easy to work with. Green boxes are a huge time saver and environmental gain - no cardboard waste for us. A couple of hiccups (they thought we kept one of their boxes but we didn't have it) but it got cleared up through support team. Terrible, terrible, terrible. Deserves ZERO stars. We paid almost $500 a month to store our items. Upon delivery on Aug. 8, 2021, they were missing 15 of our items (including 2/3rds of our couch, the top of our dining table, our toddler's chair, etc.). Not sure how our items were lost as they were supposed to all be in the same storage unit. Not to mention, we found out our items were lost THIRY MINUTES before delivery. Finally got our items back a week later-- DAMAGED. It's taken 6 weeks to get responses from their faceless, nameless, emailless (except for the general email) employees. They agreed to reimburse us $1500 for over $6,000 worth of damaged items. However, they will not refund our monthly charges for poor service. I've taken that up with our bank and submitted a dispute with our bank for extremely poor service, and now Makespace will not refund us for our damaged items. I will NEVER EVER use them again and NEVER recommend them as movers and a storage facility. Save yourself the headache and find someone local to the area with better customer service. We are going over 6 weeks now of dealing with the worst company, Makespace. read more

Do not use this company. I don't even know where to begin because I've had bad experience after bad experience with them. TL;DR - they caused me to miss a flight b/c they were SO LATE to my pickup and then damaged a metal coat rack beyond repair. From the pickup - they arrived 4 hours after the end of the scheduled window. The people at their dispatch claimed to have no idea where they were (which blows my mind that in 2018 they don't have a gps or a mere cell phone to call them to find out where they are?). They then spent 45 minutes trying to enter the very wide alley (wide enough for 2 cars, comfortably, and moving vans enter it all the time with ease). They left packing materials and trash in my apartment for me to clean up. They also said that they might not have room for my 6 items (for a 5x10 storage space) because their earlier pickup had more stuff than they planned on. Not my problem. Luckily, everything just managed to fit. I missed a flight due to their extremely late arrival and inability to drive a truck and their customer service throughout the pickup process was abhorrent. I stuck with them because there's a 3 month minimum when you sign up. Then, I scheduled a drop-off of an item. They were on time (shocking), but they managed to bend a metal coat rack completely beyond repair. I'm still perplexed as to how they did this damage. It makes me extremely concerned for my other belongings and will now be removing them and discontinuing my service with them. They comped the $20 delivery fee but in order to get reimbursed, they take you through a "claims process" that can take four weeks, and even though I provided a link to the item with a price tag, I doubt I will be receiving the full reimbursement based on their extremely vague explanation of the claims process and based on other reviews. While it might seem like an easy option, it's not worth it. Stay away from this flaming trash heap and just store stuff yourself. read more

Several pieces of furniture were returned with severe damage. Huge rips and stains on upholstered pieces and permanent stains on wood furniture. An irreplaceable lamp was returned in pieces. I was very hesitant to store this lamp with them, but one of their employees told me he would personally wrap it so it wouldn't break and promised it would be safely returned to me. Like went out of his way to assure me that it would be ok. MakeSpace has offered us a small amount of money as compensation for the damaged furniture, but refuses to pay for the lamp because it's considered a fragile object which they don't cover. We're also missing Items we stored with them that they claimed were returned to us. Things like artwork and the marble top to a dresser. Maybe if they'd actually taken photos of the contents of bins (you know, like they said they would with their whole cloud storage gimmick), they'd have proof that the items were returned. read more

They are great salesman. I was quoted a high and low price. The high price was competitive to the storage place I was using. So I went with Make Space. They did a good job picking up my stuff. I eliminated a lot hoping to get to the low end of my quote. As it turns out they are 100% higher than the low quote and 45% higher than the high quote. That is 27% higher than my current storage. I complain, told they would " honor" the high quote and get back to me later that day. 2 days past, no follow-up. I am beginning to feel really dumb for giving my belongings to someone to store in a place that I don't have any idea where, oh yeah "clouds". they have my banking. I call back and they are "kind" enough to honor their high quote for 3 months. They are very expensive. Quote low and actually charge quit a bit more because it's volume and cubit feet. I was in the process of moving out of my townhouse in Chicago and needed to store furniture and other belongings at a safe and secure location. The MakeSpace team made three trips to my home over a three month period to pick up a portion of my items. The personnel was prompt and professional. They worked efficiently without wasting any time. Their app is wonderful as I can always view my items online from my phone and to make appointments, etc. The company was able to accommodate my schedule which required date and time changes. They even returned for one item that was left behind due to primarily my error as a courtesy. This is the best way to handle storage for medium to long-term storage. I have recommended the service to friends and neighbors enthusiastically and reiterate that sentiment here. read more

Horrible experience through and through. The pick up a few months ago...they sent 3 men. I had a large two bedroom place in an elevator building and they were moving out everything. It took them 5 hours to move just my living room. One guy was brand new another was always on his phone the third was always going to the bathroom. They didn't have enough space in the truck for all my items. I ended up having to arrange a second move and pay move out fees twice. 2nd group of guys were better. That was five months ago. Last month they delivered everything to my new place. Movers were competent. They only sent two movers when I had 147 items stored (I felt 3 should have been sent) but they were good and fast. Two of my items, a one of a kind desk and an art piece are ruined. I received an email today. They charged me for the delivery PLUS storage. I have nothing in their space anymore. Why am I being charged? I'm awaiting the decision on the claim and the response to charging me incorrectly. Ridiculous read more
