I was trying to find a place to get dinner at 9 PM and I was glad that Makers union still had their kitchen open! We got the crispy brussels sprouts and the Mediterranean bowl, which was more of a salad than what you think of a bowl that can be very grain heavy but it was so good! It had a bunch of different toppings that you could pick and choose whether or not to mix in and the vinaigrette was very tasty. The hummus was a nice addition to keep it vegetarian. The tzatziki wasn't anything to write home about, but that was the only thing on the salad that I didn't enjoy. The variety of vegetables in addition to the salad component made it feel very complete. The crispy brussels sprouts were really good on top of the salad, it had honey and peanuts on top and adding the warm component to the salad made it even better. Service was quick, even though it was packed on a Friday night. It was kind of loud but to be expected with a lot of people looking like they were coming out after work. read more

This is one of the few places where you can eat outside in the Pentagon City/Crystal City area with a large group (we had 11 people) even when it's raining. Unfortunately to be out of the rain meant all the heaters were too far from our table. (It was the rarest of June evenings when we actually needed a heat lamp.) The son and I both got $12 appetizer portions of mac and cheese. Value-wise this is the way to go. I could only finish half. The menu said it had jalapenos but I would have liked more chile flavor. We also got the Thai She Crab soup to go with it, partly because we couldn't resist the name. It was pretty good and creamy, not unlike Tom Kha. Still, I'm not sure what She Crab is. I really liked the husband's impossible meatball bowl. I was unclear what their impossible meat is made of. The word "impossible" is in quotes and when asked the server said there's chickpeas in it. But that's what's in trademarked "impossible" meat. read more

Let's start with the Sunday Brunch. I defy anyone to find fault with that value. First round of mimosas is expensive but the next six rounds is cheeeeap. And the selection?!?! For under $70 two people can have crab cakes benedict, fried brussels, crispy French toast... I don't even remember. Like ten different things! I didn't have to eat again until 9pm. The food was great! Vinny, who was our handler (clearly he has training in special education or something because we that table. Or maybe the TIPS trainings have advanced to include messy brunch people) was fun, patient, and knowledgeable. This is THE SPOT for brunch on Sunday. read more

Always the perfect time at makers union, while it is usually pretty busy there is a good reason for it. I've come for both brunch and lunch and have left super satisfied both times. If you are looking for a nice spot to take your friends for brunch this is one of the best spots in the city. For $35 you get the perfect amount of food making you feel like unbuckling your belt and having the longest nap of your life. Every time I come in everyone is super social and the perfect place for a friend get together. Pentagon city is an easy metro stop away from here about 12 min walk from the station and close enough to Crystal city as well. With indoor and outdoor seating you definitely have options. Make sure to make a reservation if you have a bigger party and don't want to wait but the also have some bar seating. read more

In town for a family reunion and this spot was across the street from the hotel ... We sat outside and the scenery of the city was dope ... I stated my order with a Milagro and tonic ... For my app I ordered 3 Phoenix run wings and 3 sticky gochujang wings for my entree I ordered the Frickin Good Fried Chicken Sandwich (Nashville) hot ... both flavor wings were good and came out piping hot which is always a plus ..the gochujang wing were the perfect mix of sweet and tangy ... the Phoenix rub was good type of djfferent. the chicken sandwich was underwhelming .. it was cooked good but under-seasoned .. if you like seasoning on your chicken don't order This. The Garlic Parmesan fries where a hog thought and I would def get those again .. when I come bacc illl trying something different ... read more

We were in Arlington for a service at Arlington National Cemetery and needed a place for lunch for a group of 6. We didn't have a reservation so we did manage to find enough seats at the bar. The place is pretty nice and clean. Service was really quite good. We had a variety of food in our group. The burgers were excellent. The nachos were plentiful although it needed more cheese and jalapeño slices. The fried chicken sandwich was nice although I paid extra for Nashville hot, and it was lacking in sauce and heat. The place, while very nice, has a real echoing problem making it seem very loud. All in all it was still a good experience, so I'll keep it in mind. Debating star level rating, but I'll round up. read more

Visited for Sunday Brunch. Beautiful space! The menu is a bit confusing as it states unlimited and we were originally under the impression that it was served buffet style. But it's served family style and the table has to choose 6 items at a time (this may be difficult for larger parties/people with allergies/picky eaters). Our favorites were the Breakfast Nachos, Crab Cake Benedict, French Toast, and Chicken & Waffles. The deviled eggs were salty to all and the bacon bits were undercooked in my opinion. The spinach dip was bland and the Nashville Hot Chicken tenders lacked flavor. It just tasted like hot sauce on chicken. No seasoning. But the ranch must be made from scratch because it was delicious and elevated the tenders a bit. Would love to visit again read more

My family and I met for a birthday brunch. My baby brothers are getting old y'all! ;-) I very much appreciated being sat in the booth along the wall. it was spacious and cozy enough for our large party. Our server was patient and attentive, sure to explain and ask questions to confirm our requests. In addition to the fabulous family fellowship the breakfast bounty was truly delicious. The French toast.... Lord have mercy. Buyer beware you may get addicted. The Brussel sprouts were so tasty that even my baby brothers that avoid veggies like the plague were raving over them. While I truly was pleased with the first layer of the breakfast nachos, I would recommend a better layering of the tortilla toppings. The chorizo was good but there just wasn't enough of it for all of the chips that they put on the plate. The hot/spicy chicken tenders were a crispy and savory confection that complimented the breakfast fare very well. I would absolutely make a return visit. read more

I was pleasantly surprised to find out that happy hour started at 3pm. We arrived right around 3 and were able to quickly find a seat at the bar. They have a separate Happy Hour menu that has a pretty decent number of options at a discounted price. We placed an order for drinks as well as some appetizers. The only issue we had was trying to get the bartenders attention when we wanted to order more drinks. A few times we ordered something and then had to ask about it or reorder it because it never came. During the 3+ hours we were there, it definitely got more crowded. It's definitely a nice little vibe. The weather was perfect and they had the glass walls open. I would definitely return again and try some other things on the menu. read more

I was in the area and I stumbled upon Makers Union. I loved the liveliness of the restaurant. I really liked the comfy blue velvet bench. The service was great and fast. I ordered the New Zealand Lamb lollipops for a starter and the flat iron steak and fries for an entrée. The lamb was delicious. I loved the harissa sauce and the mint quinoa tabbouleh was surprisingly good. I ordered the steak medium but it was more medium well so I found it to be chewy but I didn't want to send it back. I wish I would have just ordered the lamb lollipop entrée and got another starter which is what my original plan was. Overall, Makers is good pick. Not opposed to visiting again if I'm in the area again. read more

I kept hearing about this chain so I had high expectations. I had the fish and chips which the waiter recommended but I went with a Caesar salad instead of fries. The fish batter was very crispy on the outside but a little doughy still on the inside which made it less appetizing to me. And the jalapeño tartar sauce tasted more like cilantro than spice to me. The salad was fine. My lunch companion thought he she crab soup was just ok, not spectacular. I just felt like this place doesn't really live up to the hype, but it is acceptable as a regular lunch place for the workers in the area. It's just not worth a special trip IMHO. read more

Stopped in for brunch and were very underwhelmed. Seemed like solid staffing on the floor but ended up with poor service, not checking on us once we got our food, only refilling empty coffee cups once we stopped a different server. Fairly loud inside, but still able to hear everyone at the table. Food itself was very forgettable: potatoes were crispy but needed salt, overeasy eggs were over medium pushing hard, biscuits seemed like they were from a can (if not then they had an odd texture/no lamination, and were pretty dry), ham steak was just a slice of ham a little thicker than deli meat. Overall the food was perfectly edible, coffee was a bit acrid tasting but palatable with some cream, service was majorly lacking. A one and done for me! read more

My coworkers and I were SUPER DISAPPOINTED!! We had been looking forward to this happy hour for a few weeks. I don't think you can put in a reservation for happy hour unless you book private seating so I'll make sure that's said. A few of them got there earlier to secure bar seating. Unfortunately staff were very rude and asked us to sit outside due to how crowded it was at the bar. What was upsetting were all the empty tables inside the establishment. When our group moved outside they didn't put the heaters on until we went in and asked. It was a freeezzingg day, the temperature was in the 40° no sun and windy. Not an ideal outdoors happy hour kinda weather. We won't be coming back here for happy hour. I don't recommend this spot for happy hour for corporate groups. They're not flexible and the staff gets snappy with you. You don't get the happy hour deal anywhere else but the bar which is the other frustrating spot. Also the HH food we ordered came out cold. Like come on dude, if you're gonna make us sit in freezing weather at least give us hot food ! read more

Came to this spot for brunch with the family. If the weather is nice, I would recommend sitting outside taking in the sunshine. Choose the ultimate brunch you will not be disappointed. You get a choice of three starters and three brunch favorite. Let's get into some of my favorites. The Brussels sprouts and Nashville chicken tenders, you will request more. Flavor in every bite. The chicken and waffles every bite was delicious from the hot crispy chicken to the fluffy waffle. I would add the makers union and makers scramble to the table also. For the price this is definitely worth the money. The staff were quick, polite and well versed when it came to the menu. You can't have brunch with mimosas and other drinks of choice. If you ask they have it. Nothing like a smoked bourbon with a good meal. read more

Funny enough, I was on my way to the Peruvian Brothers next door but was almost glad they were at capacity so I could take part of the lovely smells coming out of Makers Union Pub. Even though it was a busy weekend during happy hour, the wait for an outdoor seat wasn't long at all -- maybe 10 minutes. A bonus: If you're looking for an indoor space with good ventilation, this is a great choice because the restaurant layout is semi-open. I got the pomegranate mock mule which was sensational and refreshing for a hot day. For food, I ordered the smoked salmon that came with green beans. Instead of the mushroom quinoa, I got jasmine rice. With the lemon on top, it was incredible. Next time I'll get the impossible kebob. The lady next to us got the kebob and it looked and smelled amazing. Another note: happy hour is only at the bar which during a busy weekend was PACKED. read more

This was my last meal for my most recent trip to DC. I stopped for an early brunch before my flight. Although it was May 5 AKA Cinco de Mayo, I'd gone early enough that I missed out on the festivities. Still, I enjoyed a yummy brunch of juicy & spicy chicken thighs and well-textured waffles. The breading was light enough but with a spicy rub that gave them good heat. I didn't need any additional sauce. Eating with my eyes, I also ordered pancakes that were light, fluffy and made even better with the maple syrup and fresh berry garnish. Although they were delish, I didn't to finish them. For "liquidity", their espresso martini is a must! Artistically topped with three coffee beans on a light froth, the vodka and coffee are perfectly blended to the point I was relaxed enough during a delay on the way back. read more

It's a no for me. Service is good, despite one of the bartenders sniffing drinks before pushing them out. Decor is nice. But the food is sub par.
