I arrived around 1pm on a rainy August day, and on-street parking was readily available nearby. The atmosphere was maritime cafe. You order at a window near the front door and then pick a table or, if available, padded chair. With a beverage, it'd be possible to get a couple of hours of work done. I ordered the vegan crabcake. It came with a small, fresh side salad with homemade dressing. The sandwish was filling and tasty. The crabmeat substitute was made of jackfruit and included the appropriate spices and toppings. I'd definitely hang there next time I'm in Annapolis. I would plan to arrive in the morning to sample the intriguing breakfast items.

Their breakfast sandwiches are also delicious and made with really good-quality ingredients. We tried the egg, bacon, and avocado sandwich, and it was very tasty. They also have vegan and gluten-free, allergy-conscious cookies, which is a great option for those with dietary restrictions. In many of the sandwiches, you can substitute the regular cheese with vegan cheese, making it easy to customize your meal. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating, with the outdoor area right by the water. The outdoor seating area is well maintained and clean, and the bathroom was also very clean. Overall, the food is tasty, there are plenty of options for different dietary needs, and the waterfront seating is a nice bonus. Highly recommend checking this place out!

I don't give 5 star reviews but Chick and Ruth's deserves it…read more I sat at the bar and the staff was very friendly, I had a question about the creamed, chipped beef and they gave me a small sample to try. I ended up going with a cheesesteak sandwich and I'm so glad I did. It was the perfect balance of bread and filling. Flavourful and juicy and cheesy. I added salt to mine but I like salt. They have a 6lb colossal milkshake challenge! I wasn't up too it, but would consider if I didn't eat all day beforehand. It had such a classic Americana vibe, and all the locals were telling me if I wanted authentic Maryland to go here and I see why.

They have additional seating upstairs, but I grabbed a seat at the bar and was immediately taken care of. One thing I really appreciated was the Faces of Valor wall and how many of the menu items are named after local figures, politicians, firefighters, and other members of the community. Around 8:30 AM, they invite a volunteer to lead the Pledge of Allegiance, which I thought was a really nice touch and a reflection of their strong sense of patriotism. (9:30 during the weekend) I ordered the Annapolis Cheesesteak Omelette, and it was pretty good! The ambiance is very much an old-school diner, with pictures covering the walls and plenty of local history and personality throughout the space. It has that classic, community-centered feel that makes the experience more than just grabbing breakfast. Service was another highlight. Despite how busy it was, everyone was fast, attentive, and welcoming. You pay at the counter, which keeps things simple and efficient. My only complaint was the bar stool! I'm pretty short, so my feet were dangling the entire time, and there wasn't a footrest like you'd typically find on other bar stools. By the time I finished eating, my feet were pretty much numb LOL. Definitely something to keep in mind if you're vertically challenged like me! Overall, I had a great experience! Between the friendly service, classic diner atmosphere, and unique local touches, this is a great spot to stop by for breakfast in Annapolis.

On many 1st-Fridays, hurry over to 49 West Cafe in Annapolis to hear Tom Mitchell and Friends…read moreroots, bluegrass, blues, swing band.  They have a fun following of regulars, so there's lots of banter with the audience. There's a cozy room in the back for the band, and you can bring food from the restaurant. We love their tender flavorful generous corned beef reuben, and they let is substitute their luscious cole slaw instead of sauerkraut. You can also order one of their lovely cocktails there or bring one in from the bar. They make a great "French 49-75"! Yeah, they like to slap their "49" name on some of their craft work :-)

I've had a lovely review of 49 West in my drafts for nearly a year now. I wanted it to be as good…read moreas this business was. Unfortunately, at the start of September the original owners sold it to a chocolatier, and it's gone downhill since at avalanche speeds. This review is two stars instead of one due to the employees, who are lovely, helpful and dedicated despite changes they clearly disapprove of. 49 West was once my favorite restaurant in Annapolis. They used to offer high quality good food; half the menu is gone and the other half is missing key ingredients and rife with cheap substitutions. The food was once affordable; prices are up 25% or more despite a painfully obvious reduction in effort. It had an amazing environment; now their uniquely cozy style has been replaced by cheap plastic decorations. 49 West proudly supported local artists and handmade art; AI clearly made their new menu, complete with unsettling food images. It is devastating and painful to see a pillar of the community lose itself so completely, and I hope the new owner will realize the error of their ways. If they do not, I worry 49 West may be forced to close its doors. A few extra notes, from other sources: a food service friend of mine purchased a pastry recently and is certain it is the same premade frozen one their cafe in Chicago used to purchase. The local artists and musicians who performed and sold art there are leaving in droves, and they're scrambling to replace them. They have violated at minimum the spirit, if not the letter, of the agreements they made at purchase, most notably "minimal menu changes". I am indescribably disappointed. I wish the employees of 49 West all the best as they try to adjust to this.

Everything on the menu looked really good which made narrowing it down pretty difficult, but staff was very patient, kind, and attentive. We were shocked at how big the portion sizes were when the food arrived and were very glad we only ordered two dishes. The oreo-les pancakes came in a stack of 4 and the omelet was also quite huge! The pancakes were very fluffy and packed with oreos. The omelet with the gravy sauce was good, but the hashbrowns were under seasoned (they did have old bay and salt/pepper shakers on the table which was nice to have) and the biscuit was a little denser than I would prefer. Overall, the food was pretty good. There are tons of items we wished we could've ordered so we'd definitely come back to try other things! Again, service was great and that in itself deserves 5 stars!
