This place is worthy of more stars than I can give! The service is super friendly and lovely, and the food is beyond! There is a lot of love in those dishes, and a lot of creativity! Amazing meal. We started with pork belly with grilled pickles and then shared the Basque fish stew for two. Excellent. The pork belly was perfectly cooked. The fish stew had grilled wild bass, scallops shrimp and clams. Each fish was cooked perfectly and the stew was thick and savory. We finished with truffles. A perfect finish. Pros. - super friendly people work here. had two different servers and they were kind and responsive. - there is a cool/warm ambiance. looks like its been there for a while despite being new. - the food is compelling. tasty, some lovely dishes. unique flavors. Cons. - Drink cost. Everything is 10+ . A little nuts. I can think of a number of cocktail bars in soho/les that are cheaper. - Portions. I don't mind throwing down $17 for amazing gnocchi or $30 for a steak but after finishing, I would like to feel like I had just eaten dinner. $17 gets you a handful of gnocchi evenly spaced out on a plate w/ sauce. I didn't see that the steak was only 8oz (all of their menu is on a chalkboard) but if it's going to be that small of a steak for $30, please add filling sizes. Both dishes were good but were expensive and didn't feel complete. The only item I feel comfortable ordering is the hamburger. which is filling and one of the best burgers I've had in a while. We were a large family group so we had the opportunity to sample multiple dishes. What stood out for me were the empanditas, the burrata, the gnocchi and the steak. Unfortunately, I had a very bad experience here with a few friends and will not be going back. The service was very slow and inattentive. When there were issues, they were poorly dealt with. Too bad, because the food was good. We waited almost an hour for our appetizers, one of which didn't show up until our main courses arrived. And one entree was missing, making my friend wait another 20 minutes for a small plate of pasta. We had finished a very nice bottle of wine, but were not asked if we wanted more - and we were confused and annoyed so did not request another. Worst of all was how they dealt with the problem. The manager came by and asked sheepishly, "Are you pissed?" We were not pissed, until asked. The server was apologetic, but they did not compensate with drinks or food on the table - only the missing dish was comped. They may be new and inexperienced, but this was unacceptable. We ended up splitting a pizza and a bottle of wine at Union Pizza Works - always amazing! read more

I love this place. I don't go there very often, but it's my go-to place if I go out with friends in the neighborhood. It's never too crowded, the decor makes the atmosphere very convivial, there're very audacious when it comes to food, and bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable in their art. This is a really nice addition to the neighborhood. The room is nicely laid out and decorated. The menu is a bit limited since it is a farm to table restaurant and some prices seem a bit high especially considering it is in Bushwick but the food was delicious and so were the drinks. As a party of four we all enjoyed the delicious food and great atmosphere. We shared everything that we ordered and was supplied with plenty of plates, knives and forks. I've only been twice but I liked the changing menu. Great appetizers, too (I think I got the burrata?) And seriously, to those giving this place negative reviews because they are mad about the price -- it says on this page $11-30 range, that is accurate! I've lived within walking distance of Maite since it opened, and I now consider myself an idiot for waiting a year to eat here.. One of THE best meals I've had in Bushwick, if not the entire city. I loved it so much I've decided to write my first review after years of relying on others' reviews for my restaurant choices: Appetizers included burrata over squid ink. I've seen squid ink used in various ways, but never just as a huge pool of it.. And it was incredible with the burrata. I had ink on my hands for a couple day (it was too good to eat cleanly, had to soak the rest up with bread). The burrata would have been great even on its own- super fresh, creamy and rich. Another appetizer: Watermelon radish and charred cheddar cheese with truffle oil and shaved truffle. I don't even know what to say about this... I could eat it every day, forever. 10/10. Entree 1: swordfish with apple aioli, fiddle heads & finger like sweet potatoes (or something like that). Unreal. Fish was cooked perfectly and the flavor combination of the fiddleheads with the potatoes and aioli was otherworldly. It also felt incredibly healthy to eat with everything being as fresh as possible. Entree 2: my sister order 'the burger' thinking she was being boring. No.. A perfectly cooked, high quality beef masterpiece with a flash-fried/soft-boiled egg and mozzarella cheese on top. In her own words, one of the best burgers she's eaten. I had a bite, and would've had 7 more if allowed. Dessert: a dulce de leche concoction over a mascarpone/creme fresh/cheddar cheese mix base and straciatella. We were pretty full, but with what we had just experienced, I wasn't about to let the party stop there. So this was devoured, and absolutely incredible. One of the more unique desserts out there, taking old classic ingredients and combining them as I've never seen. Seems to be a theme here! (I can't remember what I had to drink, but it was an epic cocktail.. I got lost in the food though. Also had wine which was pretty cheap and very good.) Price of everything was right on par for the quality of ingredients. 10/10. 100%. A+. Whatever. Give it a Michelin star. read more

This was THE WORST restaurant I've ever been to in Brooklyn and I eat out a lot on a budget. I went with a group of 6 because I heard good things about this place and wanted to impress some friends visiting with what I heard was charming atmosphere and great food. What we received was over an hour and a half wait for 5 burgers and a plate of what turned out to be 4 potato raviolis. They said they were "swamped" and that they were sorry for the slow service but there were very few tables filled. Also, how long does it take to cook a few med rare burgers? When we received our food after an hour and a half wait! All of us were too upset to enjoy our long awaited food despite the fact that we were all starving. Having the manager lie to us numerous times about our food almost being ready was upsetting but was more upsetting was the fact that I went up to talk to her about the issue and she very rudely told me that there was no issue and that I should just wait longer for the food. She then told me that she would give us free dessert. Which she didn't deliver. Then she gave us shots of cheap tequila without asking us if we wanted them (we don't drink tequila). Also, I paid somewhere between 12 and 15 dollars for ravioli and waited, yes, 1.5 hours for it! and received 4 bland potato raviolis. This place is new and has a lot to figure out before people should actually go and eat there. I hope that the owners read this and get new management. But I will say our actual waitress was charming and nice and we had no issues with her. Fix your prices or portions, fix the issues with your kitchen, and get proper etiquette training for your managers. Me and my 5 friends will never return to this Kitchen Nightmare type dining experience but hopefully you won't lose future customers. read more

Went here on a Wednesday night for a bit less of a crowd. The only thing that would keep me from giving them five stars is not having a paper menu. I understand that it changes and that's the reason for a chalkboard menu but it was very hard to read and a bit challenging for someone who isn't familiar with the cuisine. The food and service were GREAT! We got the empanaditos (sp) with duck confit which were incredible. My date had the Halibut and I had the Gnocchi which were both cooked perfectly. The sauces on each dish were very well made and flavorful. I was still a bit hungry after my portion though and was about to order another dish but my date couldnt eat much more! They were happy to bring me a small side of bread to soak up my remaining sauce. Very kind service. I will certainly be back to try more dishes along with their cocktails. The bartender made a great Sazerac Manhattan which I devoured. Overall, I would recommend it to anyone but there are certainly some places they could improve upon. read more

A friend brought me to this place and I didn't read about it before coming. Slowly it all started adding up: the music that you hear in little towns all along December, the decoration, the cookbook my mother used to have when I was a child... I liked the combination of an original Colombian feeling and some European/diverse food. Of course, the chef knows how to cook arepas, and how to combine them with international food. On Tuesday,April 15,2015 I dined together with two friends at the newly opened Maite restaurant,and had a great time.We arrived there at 5:30 PM and the place was empty. This gave us plenty of time to admire the unique rustic,industrial chic decor of the bright window lined room. The brick walls and interesting ceiling hangings showed a charming informality. And no "matchy matchy" here. Mismatched chairs painted in a rainbow hue of colors surrounded different shaped thick wood plank tables. We had the opportunity to meet the staff: Chef Ella,charming and warmhearted was justifiably proud of her lovely restaurant and modern open kitchen. She radiated happiness at welcoming new guests.The friendly bartender recommended that we try a bottle of Lo, a French red wine that proved agreeable to all. Then on to the chalkboard menu where everything seemed so interesting and exciting that it was hard to choose.It was our first experience with "farm to fork" and we were impressed. Our terrific waiter Emmet, knowledgeable and a great conversationalist, aided us in ordering. We went for shared starters of small plates starting with shrimp empanaditas accompanied by aji, a condiment of onions,garlic and lime. Next we shared small plates of the freshest avocado,cilantro,watercress,crisp carrots and paper thin slices of watermelon radish. Included was a slice of pork belly,whose popularity puzzles me. Next were the main dishes with efficient,attentive service from Emmet who constantly replenished our silverware, plates and napkins.One of us ordered the intersting looking ravioli and two had lightly fried grouper fish in a sauce of grits.Not sure what was in the sauce,but it was indescribably delicious. Although we were getiing full on the generous portions of excellent food,nobody wanted to skip dessert. It consisted of creme brulee in a sorel sauce(always the most imaginative combinations) as well as chocolate ballls rolled in cocoa. Like everything else dessert was fantastic. Insomniacs be aware that there is good,strong coffee but no decaf. By this time the room had begun to fill up but the noise level was never overwhelming.We had enjoyed a great and fun dining experience,so much superior in every way to most restaurants.It was mentioned that there were plans to open an outdoor seating area in the warm weather. LOVED everything about Maite! From the atmosphere, to the waitstaff, to the food, everything was amazing! The drink special was a strawberry rhubarb margarita which was mixed to perfection and tasted like summer in a glass. We loved the empanadas and would come back for these alone. Our group sampled most of the menu and each dish was better than the next. I highly suggest the gnocchi and ravioli dishes. To top it off we had the most delicious dessert (strawberry rhubarb tart). I ate here on a Saturday night on the recommendation of a friend. The food was PHENOMENAL! I ordered the gnocchi and my friend ordered the blue cheese bacon ravioli. Both dishes were perfect. Couldn't have been more delicious. There menu also seems to update fairly regularly, so it seems there's always a chance to try something new. If you eat here, you'll spend a few more dollars than you might at you're typical Bushwick restaurant, but the atmosphere and food more than justify the extra few bucks! Highly recommend. read more

Words like "amazing", "perfection", and "stunning" have been, for me, relegated to the annals of advertising banalities to described the benefits of hygiene products and cat food. I write this short preamble so that my review is set in context and you understand not just my opinion, but the basis on which it has been formed. Which is... Maite has been one of the most memorable dining experiences I have had. I do not say this based upon extraneous factors such as the conversations I had with my dining companion (which, in their own right, contributed significantly to my enjoyment of the entire evening). nor do I say this based upon any events leading up to our dinner which may have had an influence upon the mood, tone, and judgement of this experience. I believe that I have subtracted these to form my judgement. Nor do I write this lightly or without considerable forethought. I dined there on Thursday, March 24th, 2016 and have been considering this review intermittently for 2 days. I can understand that to some readers this may sound pedantic and wholly obsessive (probably having several readers question my general sanity or, at least, state of mind) but I earnestly submit that I believed this process to be wholly requisite prior to committing a judgement. The chef shall be commended for what, in my opinion, is the most careful and deliberate use of ingredients, spices, technique, and presentation to create some of the most delicious tastes I have had the pleasure of enjoying. I will not rate any individual dish, as given the quality of each I can only compare each to the others I had that evening, thus denying justice in that comparison. To quote Wilde, "..comparing the Great to the Great only benefits the Mediocre". Suffice it said, not a plate went back to the kitchen with a crumb of food, nor a drop of sauce, The atmosphere was enhanced by both the general space and music, as well as the excellent service and sense of warmth by the staff, most notably our server. This comes at a price--not a steal in terms of item pricing/size.
