I've been here 3 times now. This, this this, is the hidden gem of Bushwick. The prices may be north of $10 on your average plate, but theres not an ounce of pretention in the place. Its hardly ever crowded, dedicated to an authenticity that's no more complicated than producing delicious things to put in your mouth. Beautiful space with great service, but the food is not as good as it should be for the price. The menu is scribbled on a giant chalkboard (that is hard to make out from your seat) which leads to you getting certain items suggested and explained in detail. Handheld menus would help a lot since most of the dishes are so different and complex. We had the shrimp in broth (which was good but under seasoned), the burrata in squid ink (which was very messy and also begging for some salt and pepper) and finally the gnocchi which was good. The place is beautiful. The food was great really tasty. I had the gnocchi, the burrata and the mushroom pizza which is not a pizza i dont remember the real name but it looks like it, you must have it. everything was delicious. Service was on point and knowlagable, they describe everything on the plate, made the experience very pleasant. And even if we were the last customer and arrived 5 min before the kitchen closed they served us with big smiles and nerver rushed us, always checked on us to see if everything was ok. I usually come here by myself on Sunday nights. It's never too busy then and really chill to sit at the bar. Johnny (bartender) is really nice and great to chat with. Their drinks are ok point and interesting. Great selection of wine and liquors, too. Food-wise so far I've had the burger and the pizza. The burger was probably the tastiest ground beef I have ever had! The pizza is really tasty, too. Though rather small. All in a this is easily my favorite restaurant in the area. I've eaten here on more than one occasion and I can genuinely say that EVERYTHING I've eaten has been AMAZING. Don't bother coming here if you're looking for a quick dinner of mediocre food. You might have to wait a bit for the food to arrive, but that's because it's all freshly made to perfection. Enjoy one of their RIDICULOUSLY DELICIOUS cocktails while you wait. Maite was great! We ordered the rack of lamb and the monk fish. There were great flavors in all of it. The burrata in squid ink and the pork belly were also very tasty. No menu which is a little annoying but the menu changes a lot because they use seasonal ingredients. I took away a star because it was so hot in there! No air conditioning. read more

The food is good, as is the service. However--they do not turn on their AC hardly ever. It's asking a lot to spend at least $50 per person for dinner and not have proper ventilation or cooling. If you care about eating in a comfortable environment call ahead and ask about the air conditioning. I've walked by thinking of going there for dinner over 5X and left or kept walking because of how hot it was in there and all windows being wide open. read more

Absolutely in love with this place after one visit. Took my girlfriend and her mother here this weekend, and there wasn't a dish we tried that we weren't obsessed with. Even the side of veggies, which were char roasted rainbow carrots *Im drooling again just thinking about it*, were absolutely spectacular. We had to order more bread just to soak up it's juices, we couldn't let a single drop go to waste. Our main entrees were the real treat, I had the gnocci, which was cooked so perfectly it felt like eating little heavenly pillows soaked in the most delicious creamy sage sauce I've ever come across, complete with trumpet mushrooms. My gf's rib eye was grilled to perfection and practically melted in our mouths, while her mom's seafood stew (wild bass, shrimp, and clam) was so rich with flavor, I have big plans to order it for myself later this week. As a server myself, I have to give huge compliments to the staff! Everyone from the server, to the chefs, to the bartender, was so kind and informative, and true professionals at their craft. I live dangerously close to this place, and will be returning frequently to see what else they have up their sleeve as the months move along, and their menu continuously evolves around the freshest and seasonable ingredients! read more

I loved the food at Maite, the duck egg arepitas and yuca fries are must-haves. My one and pretty major complaint is that because they have a rotating menu, the only menu displayed is on a chalkboard which is hard even for someone with 20/20 vision to see. I'm legally blind and it was absolutely impossible for me to see the chalkboard menu, I told this to the waitress who very kindly read out the menu to me, but I really think they should at the very least provide a print out menu. It's a very easy and simple fix for people with disabilities or people with limited vision. I really hope that Maite makes changes to make their restaurant more accessible, inclusive and disability friendly. read more

Not very impressed. The restaurant looks nice but the food is basic and overpriced. The pork belly is a substandard cut as it is 80% fat and comes on a plate with a hot sauce but nothing else. The burger is a basic burger with only bun, meat, cheese and an egg which was totally unseasoned. The only greens we could get was a watercress salad. We were complementary of the fries though. Drinks were expensive - $9 for a small beer and $15 for a glass of wine which was nice but at a price you would expect in a wine bar in Chelsea! Nice ambience but until they can construct a balanced dish at a reasonable price I would give this one a miss! read more

I've been to Maite a few times and each time it's consistently great! I usually start with the empanadas which are a no brainer here because they are tasty. It has an aioli that I drizzle over and is so so good. My favorite is the burger. It comes topped with a crispy egg and cheddar cheese. Unbelievably flavorful! I've also tried the gnocchi which was fantastic. It's is light and fluffy and stuffed with cheese. Overall I really love Maite. The food is always great, the ambiance is really cool and casual and it's a great place to go if you wanna go alone and sit at the bar and have a drink or app or if you wanna go in a group. The people who work there are nice so it makes for a great addition to the neighborhood too! read more

Kind of was a bummer as we really did not have time to send it back. Other meals were good but not OMG great. Portions average to small. We also had 1 of the apps get delayed and it came out 1 minute prior to main meal so that was kind of a waist of $20. Beverage: C They have a good beer selection but they charge $9 for a small glass perhaps 1/3 of a pint so the beer is actually about $18 a pint which is crazy expensive. Add in a couple apps w/ 2 rounds of drinks and a dinner for 3 is over $200 Bottom Line: We enjoyed it but will not return as there are a lot of places with good food that are a better value. read more

We were in town recently for vacation and wanted to try somewhere new. After a long day yesterday we came across Maite and gave it a try. WHAT A GOOD CHOICE! I had the burger, and my Hubby had the Shrimp. My Burger was cooked perfectly and was delicious. Nice Ribeye patty with a crispy fried duck egg on top ( new one on me but LOVED IT.) Seasoned very well. Hubby got 4 huge Prawns with melted scape butter. Of course I had a bite and it was soooo good. We had some refreshing libations too off of a really cool specialty drink board. I think they were called Kikos??? A sparkling Rose with grapes, went down real smooth.The prices were not bad at all, and it was a cool atmosphere with really good music playing. If we are ever back in the area we will definitely return. Had lots of tasty looking things on the menu, and the service was quite pleasant! read more

I was visiting some friends in Bushwick this weekend and heard great things about this place that just opened and decided to check it out. I'm so happy that we did. First of all, I loved the decor. It can be perfect for a night out with friends for drinks or great for a casual/chic dinner. The background music was on point and not too loud so you can still talk with friends. Service was great: genuinely friendly without trying too hard. Drinks were yummy. Some of us ordered wine and some ordered cocktails, no one complained and everyone had multiples. Now onto the food. THE FOOD. This is the main reason I will be back. We're a close bunch so we did a family style dinner so we could try more dishes. We started out with a delicious plate of a variety of olives, followed by probably the best chicken Empanadas I've ever had. The outside was super crispy and the inside was soft and flavorful. It came with some Aji, which is a greenish sauce that we were all fighting over. I usually feel greasy or heavy after eating empanadas, but not this time! There's 2 per order so my recommendation is order one per person. Ha. But seriously try them. Thank me later. For dinner we split the Coques with Chorizo (Spanish style-flatbread), the green beans with ricotta, the Steak with homemade arepa, and the Gnocchi with chanterelle mushrooms. The Gnocci is larger than normal but that's because they are STUFFED WITH CHEESE. I almost passed out when I bit into them. They were the perfect texture, soft, mildly chewy, and 100% amazing. The sauce was perfect, flavorful without being too salty. The chanterelle mushrooms were super fresh and tasty. It was my favorite dish of the evening until I tasted the steak! We ordered it medium-rare (the only way steak should be made) and it was perfect. It comes pre-sliced on top of a homemade arepa with cheese. I usually don't like my steak pre-sliced but I'm so happy it was because it decreased the time it took to scoop into my mouth! It was topped with a fresh bed of greens that was the perfect compliment to each bite. I'm glad we split the dishes so I could try everything but I was so depressed that I had to share the steak with my friends. Next time I'm getting my own! We topped it all off with a creme caramel topped with sorel liquor. It was delicious, smooth and had a nice kick with each bite due to the liquor sauce. The chef here deserves accolades for the menu. From what I understand, they design the menu based on what is in season at the time. Part of me can't wait to try other dishes while the other part of me hopes that the ones I tried never go away, so I can have them again. If you are within a 25 mile radius, I recommend stopping by. Ugh, I wish I could have liked this place I was visiting NYC from Chicago during the weekend of the Bushwick festival they had going on in the neighborhood. A group of friends and I got hungry, so we walked down the street to Maite. We were told it would be about a 20 min way for 6 people, no problem. Half of us waited outside and the other half at the bar. It actually turned out to be a good hour or so before we got seated. It's fine, we're a group and it was a small place. We ordered right away because we were so hungry - 5 burgers and one person with a plate of ravioli. I know it can seem like things take extra long when you are hungry, but our food literally took over an hour and a half to come out. We asked our server if our food was coming in which we got the "oh yes its coming right out" and again, later said by a manager "its coming right out" By the time our food actually came out, I truly couldn't even enjoy the damn food because I was so irritated from waiting, and waiting and waiting. From the minute we walked in to even receiving our checks, I wasted a good 4 hours just WAITING. And do you know what we waited on? 5 medium rare burgers, no fries (because they ran out????) and 4 pieces of ravioli. I am in the industry and I know how it is when it's busy, but this was actually absurd. It was extremely obvious that this restaurant didn't have their shit together, or at least didn't prepare properly for a busy night. The saddest part is, it wasn't even a full restaurant and I couldn't sympathize by saying they were jam packed. They weren't. So to really make this experience awful - the manager was unbelievably rude about the whole situation. One of the people I was with complained to this woman about our experience and she actually had the nerve to go against what he was saying. The customer is ALWAYS right. I'm not sure how you can possibly expect customers to return by not even offering to comp a meal or give a % off the bill. Oh, but later she did bring free shots of well tequila - which none of us drink. And then offered dessert, but why? So we can wait another hour for a slice of cake? It legitimately blew my mind how awful the experience was at this restaurant. You wont find a place anywhere in Chicago that'll treat you that way. So, manager of Maite - please take note and don't understaff on a Saturday night during a large neighborhood festival, and please learn how to properly take care of unhappy customers. The only thing louder than the chatter at 'Maite' is the collective gasp of its customers when they receive the check. The decor of the restaurant is attractive french-brasserie style blah-blah and the food is the ever predictable Brooklyn 'farm to table' micro-fare. However our microscopic fare was priced at such a mark-up rate that in the end the only flavor that lingered was the sour taste left by the check (it certainly gave me indigestion). Once again this seems to be yet another Bushwick venture that seeks to mine the deep pockets of Bushwick's 'trustafarians' (my daddy pays my bills) rather than those people who might actually be return customers. WOW. just WOW!! The perfect Saturday evening date with my beau :) The decor is absolutely the most romantic. Service was great and the food was IMPECCABLE. Empanaditas - The most flavorful and full of stuffing and deliciousness in one bite. I really enjoyed the little kick in the dipping sauce as well. Pork Belly - SOOOO tender and juicy! Watermelon Radish - We were AMAZED by how raddish can taste SO good. This is def TOP NOTCH vegetable dish! Nice place. Good ambience. Friendly and attentive staff. I arrived about 5:30 on a Saturday. The place had a few customers. Shortly after 6, it was pretty much a capacity crowd. I was not familiar with most of the menu items. I thought it could be a good time to try something new, or oppositely, could be a time to just to eat something familiar because I was genuinely hungry. Just a burger and fries, please. Not sure if I'm ready to talk about how good this meal was. Started with the big, fat olives and a few of their specialty cocktails -- yum. Moved on to the buratta -- beautiful on the inside and outside .... did not disappoint. For dinner, I got the burger - they customized it as I'm not a fan of runny egg yolk - went with crispy fried egg on top. Hands down one of the best burgers I've ever had...maybe even THE best. My friend went with the rabbit ragu - that was also perfect. We were both really full half way through the meal but ended up basically licking our plates clean. Great ambiance: dimly lit, friendly service, open kitchen -- the ultimate sign of "our food is so good we feel confident enough to cook it in front of you." I'm very confused. Did not enjoy the food nor either of the two cocktails I had. (not even the wine selection, I tried 2 wines). The char on the burger was overwhelming, bitter taste all the way through on a medium cook, my fiance had a mid-rare burger and said the same. I find that in newly hip neighborhoods, with high populations of transplants and hipsters, any dining experience that is remotely ethnic (this: Colombian fusion) gets high marks even if they're painfully mediocre. Maite has quickly become one of my favorite and most recommended spots - and I eat out a lot! The food is delicious and never disappoints in its creativity and variety. Its presentation is photo-worthy! I have happily traveled multiple times from the UES especially for Maite's Ribeye which I cannot get enough of! Quite a compliment to the chef as I rarely eat steak. For starters I recommend the Burratta, the Empanditas and the Pork Belly. Their cocktail list is very creative (my favorite being the Brooklyn Bound) and they offer a delicious bottle of Rosé for under $40. Our waiter is always just the right combination of attentive but not overbearing and the manager is super sweet and welcoming - and has given us delicious, free dessert on multiple occasions! The thing about Maite is that you get the sense that the food is created as a labor of love and you taste that and feel it when you're there. Do yourself a favor and visit Maite as soon as you can! This has become our favorite new "splurge" spot in Bushwick. The ambience is super cozy and kind of romantic, drinks are entirely too pricy but they do offer fresh and creative twists on classic cocktails. (When are folks gonna learn, if you have a $7.00 option for wine or beer I'll have three. If it's $9.00 or more per drink I'm only ever going to have one) The food is absolutely delectable! From what I can surmise, the menu changes based on what's in season. Most plates are meant to be shared so that is what we do! Our most recent visit was this past Sunday August 5th. We sat at the bar. The bartender was basically perfect at his job. Friendly and welcoming. Informative and charming. We got the Empanadas (incredible) the cheese and zucchini in truffle oil and on the bartender's (spot on) recommendation, we ordered some toasted garlic rubbed bread to build the most insane tartines ever! We had the shrimp and Spanish rice. This was really good, the only note was the shrimp was a touch on the "fishy" side but I'd probably never have noticed except that everything else was so very superb. Finally we split the burger with crispy egg. If your a drinker, your bill will rack up real high, real quick! But I'm gonna say it's well worth it! read more

This is a hidden gem. You can easily walk by this place and not really notice it from the exterior sign but when you walk in you are amaze of how big and open the place is. The decor is really cool and the restaurant has good background music playing. The food here was really delicious and the staff was polite and helpful. I am definitely going back to eat here again or even sit at the bar and grab a couple of drinks. It is family friendly and is definitely a great date night kind of place. read more

Get the burger. Holy sh!t get the burger. I DEVOURED mine in about 2 minutes. One of the best burgers I've ever had - the crispy egg that topped it was certainly unique and added a great flavor. Additionally the fries, while too short to eat comfortably as finger food were amazing. Judging from my friend literally finger licking the plate for the fish stew clean, their other offerings are equally delicious. In terms of service, our waitress, Sierra, was fantastically friendly, patient, and helpful. The decor here is comfortable and intimate and the music choice for our evening was a great Latin beat.
