Walking through the Latin Quarter, I happened across Gerard Mulot. Always a surprised when venturing through the streets of Paris, wandering away from the tourist scenes, away from the crowds, just entering anything that has pastries and sweets displayed against the windows! I ordered a few of their macarons, and they were the best I had while in Paris! There's always the same issue with macarons, a Russian roulette if you will, where if you bite in and they crack and disintegrate, you've happened upon a stale macaron. No bueno, burn them to the ground, and rebuild. If it's fluffy, chewy, moist, and heavenly... nuf said. You've eaten the ambrosia of the gods! Every macaron I've ordered here was moist, sweet, and bursting with flavor! With a 3/3, they've passed with perfect marks, and they're on my Parisienne list for life! Service was polite and helpful. Lots of people to take your order, with lots of deliciousness behind the counter. After enjoying their macarons, I want to return to try more of everything! read more

You would? Go here. PS - The ordering system can be a little confusing if you want a tart or pastry. You order. They give you a receipt. You take the receive to the back cash register that handles all the payments. They stamp the receipt as paid. You take that back to the pastry counter, where your delectable treat will be waiting for you, either boxed and ready to go or on a silver tray if you prefer to eat perched at one of the diminutive in-store counters and make passersby jealous. read more

Bottom line- no matter how wonderful a patisserie may be, respect to others is a priority. I still had not received my latte after having waited 20 minutes. When I politely reminded them that I have not received my latte (as others are being served tea/ lattes) i was told to wait. I wait again as others continue to receive items- once again after waiting another 5 minutes remind the cashier and ask for latte to go now as I have a flight to catch. The cashier Monsieur Nicholas opened the cash drawer and gave me 4 euros back! No eye contact, no apology or explanation. Very arrogant young man. Best baguettes we've found -- we particularly like the extra-crunch Tradition and Rustique. Tried a couple other places in the area, but have since given up and made this my morning stop. I'm also loving their Pain au Chocolat and my boys have delightedly sampled the Brioches au Sucre, Pain aux Raisins, Eclairs au Chocolat. We've also tried some of the Ham and Cheese croissants and sandwiches, which are knock-you-out rich and buttery... tasty but a bit heavy for me. read more

It could have been that I hyped this place up too much before coming, but Gerard Mulot didn't quite live up to the expectations. The macarons were sub-par and the flavors were strange and tasted artificial. They don't get two stars only because I'd still like to give it another chance at some point. Despite having macarons I'd rather not remember, this place was noteoworthy because of the ridiculous variety of other pastries they were creating. You could see all the baking racks behind the counter filled with fresh pastries and the warm scent had to be a good sign. They also get extra points for how colorful all the baked goods are. This is the best bakery I've ever been to. Literally. The baguettes they sell are better a day later than pretty much any fresh baguette I can find in the US and when they're warm (you just have to get lucky) it's one of the most heavenly things I've ever eaten. I think I've now eaten nearly 10 baguettes from here in 5 days. The pastries are equally good with both a mini-Christmas log and a macaroon having been stunningly good. read more

Wow the macaroons here were mouth watering good! I got the 6 macaroons to give a variety of choices to try. The coconut was absolutely amazing so if you like coconut it's a must that you get this. I didn't get a chance to try the Carmel one but my friends who did loved it! read more

I was very hungry and have a crazy sweet tooth! Why not give in while in Paris? The variety of goods in this shop was very large, and they had more employees in there than most patisseries/boulangeries. What I found interesting about most of their tarts and fine pastries was that they weren't aesthetically perfect which gave the products an aura of authenticity. I ended up purchasing brioche with chocolate for less than 2 Euros. It was so tasty! The brioche was moist and the amount of chocolate was perfect. Such a good deal. I'd happily eat pastries from here, but I also wouldn't go out of my way to eat there. read more

Yes, I know it's a chain, but it's a damn tasty chain. I can't vouch for everything, but the croissants are the best I had all week long. I tried 4-5 other highly regarded establishments (Du Pain et des Idees, Poilane, etc.) and no one stacks up to the buttery, flaky exterior and soft interior the way Gerard Mulot does. Their baguettes were also done well, with plentiful complexity baked into the exterior and the soft innards we come to expect and love. The other breads I tried (Pain au Lait and Pain au chocolat) were both good, but the croissants are what stuck with me. They make many more things, but my blood sugar forbade me from trying them. Oh yes, and they were very warm, despite the fact i butchered many names and finally ended up resorting to caveman pointing and grunting. Chivalry ain't dead yet. read more

There's a rainbow of macarons to be had at Gerard Mulot. Don't dilly dally in the line though, do your browsing before you join it. Everything there is like a work of art--anyone with a camera would be hard-pressed to walk by without taking at least one shot. If you really want to be a hero, take a mixed box of pastries over to a friend and watch them light up. The fruit tart, chocolate bombe, and napoleons were all fantastic. If you get a single baguette, it will be half gone before you get to where you're going. My favorite, though, was the crisp, luscious chocolate macaron in the I-could-share-but-I-won't size. read more

Mmmm I dream of the macarons from Gerard Mulot. They have all the classics: coconut, caramel beurre salé, café, noisette, vanille, etc. etc. but don't forget their mystery flavor of the month! This is my favorite go-to patisserie in Paris, and everything I tried was exceptional. The macaron were en point, and anything involving mousse was wonderful, especially the foret noir and the Coeur Frivole. I wish that I could have gone daily to try a different treat each time, as I'm sure that I never would have been disappointed. Just a tip - order your item at the counter, they will hold it and give you a slip to take to have stamped when you pay at the cashier, then return to the counter to pick up your item. Or items. This shop had a little bit of everything- pastries, baguettes, and even some savory food behind the glass case. We ordered a chocolate tarte and a canelé. The canelé was average in my book, but the chocolate tarte! Fantastic! We had a choice between a milk chocolate-praline tarte or a dark chocolate-coffee tarte. This was one of my top two favorite desserts I tried while in Paris. It was creamy, sweet, but with a bitter tang from the coffee and dark chocolate, with a buttery crust. SO. GOOD. Though this is not the best boulangerie/patisserie in Paris, there are some things I really like about it. 1. The prices are super reasonable 2. Huge selection. They make all the classics, plus some more original creations. The Grifouille was a little dry and the Tiramisu were not my favorite but the Casia and the Cœur Frivole were excellent. Nearly tripped over this store on my way to the Musee D'Orsay (wending my way slowly through the 6th) and stopped still as my nose had started twitching in response to some AMAZING smells wandering over from across the street. Dashed across the way and just stood gaping at the window displays full of colorful macarons, tarts of all shapes, sizes and flavors, and big, beautiful cakes (and charlottes - a personal favorite). Indulged in their house special strawberry tart to-go, and packed up some macarons and goodies for friends back at home in the US of A. Took a lot of willpower to not buy out their stock of eclairs and croissants as well... they also had savory pastries that looked delicious (and I'm sure are, as the take-out lunch line was out the door and across the corner). The tart was wonderful - strawberries sweetened up just a bit with syrup, and the pastry wonderfully buttered and flaky. Not too sweet, just the way I like it. Same goes for the macarons. While I enjoyed Pierre Herme and Laduree, I actually think Mulot's macarons took the top spot for me. Great assortment of flavor, lovely bright contrast with ganache and/or fruit fillings, and not too sweet - lets the flavors shine through without making my sweet tooth ache. read more

I've been a customer for over a decade, and I can always count on fabulous baguettes, éclairs, palmiers and pain au chocolat. The macarons are excellent and my favorites are the millefeuilles. Came here based on a recommendation from tour guide Aurelien at the Segway tour place not too far from the Eiffel Tower. Excellent macarons and tarts -- wish I could've sampled everything! Make a visit (and purchase) here and then pass by Le Sénat and into le Jardin du Luxembourg for a relaxing afternoon walk/rest. Continue south to the Montparnasse building (the big minimalist black/gray building) to catch a view northward of the Eiffel Tower in the foreground with La Défense in the background. Excellent photo spot. Other than that, must say I agree with Cato M's review from 10/29/2012 -- "I don't even remember what I ordered here. It doesn't matter. It's all heaven." Enjoy! read more

I've been hooked since. I always pay a visit whenever I'm in Paris, or ask travelling friends to bring home some. My favorite will always be the pistachio macaron, but really, they're all good. Good, but not exceptional. Gerard Mulot offers a wide variety of baked goods, breads, viennese pastries, patisserie goods, etc. They're all good, but none of them are great. I've had their baguettes, croissants, and a fig and pistachio tart. I'd rather visit a bakery, patisserie, or viennoiserie that specializes in one type of item and creates it exceptionally. Worth a stop in if you're passing by on your way to Saint Sulpice, Odeon, or Jardin du Luxembourg, but not worth a hike. read more

Staying at the 6th arrondisment I on purposely walked towards the Luxembourg Gardens to try some pastries for breakfast even though my hotel was located across a Paul bakery from my hotel. I ordered with my poorly limited French a pre-packaged square sandwich with mayo, tomato, lettuce, hard boiled egg and ham. I also ordered pain chocolate and brioshe bread chocolate. Based on yelp reviews I was mightily disappointed seems like the theme of my vacation. The sandwich bread was soggy, but tasted ok. Nothing great. The brioshe chocolate bead was stiff and flavor was meh. As for the pain chocolate it was not moist or flakey. I had butter flavor. I've had some better ones elsewhere. Definitely thought it was the worse of the bakeries visited. There were two counters. I went to the back where there was a register. I'm wondering if I had yesterday's pastries. I did see a fresh batch of croissants put out as I was ordering though. The other counter had the pastries, mini cakes, tarts, quiches, and I noticed the sandwich unpackaged. Bread was at the back counter Everything "looked" delicious - as is the case in all the Boulangeries and bakeries in France. Nonetheless, yelpers should temper expectations here. The service was ok. The worker could tell I was not French and we barely got through the transaction with our language barrier. I speak English. There is no coffee here and no places to sit to eat. They do open early, 7 am, so one can drop by here like others said and sit at the park and enjoy the pastries and people watch. Just have to go elsewhere to get something to drink. read more

Yes, this was the best baguettes place and they had the most amazing cafe eclair. We came here almost every morning and I love the pain au chocolate. I didn't give it a full 5 star because the sandwiches was ok and the macaroons was way too sweet and the shell was hard. I did like the lychee favor but still really sweet. i LOVE this place. This is definitely one of the best patisseries in Paris, and in my favorite area. The cucumber sandwiches, cheese rolls, salads and macaroons are amazing. The ordering system is a little weird as you place your order first, then go on a separate line to pay, then back to the original spot to pick up your order. What a wonderful pastry shop! I ordered the chicken sandwich with a raisin brioche. My boyfriend had a club sandwich, ham quiche, and a lemon tart. The club sandwich had sliced apples and some nuts, as opposed to your ordinary American club sandwich with bacon. Everything was fresh, super delicious, with a hint of sweetness in everything.
