I can't say there was much I liked about the place. We arrived 45 minutes after opening and it must have been a bad morning for them as the staff was not thrilled that we were there. The quiche tasted like it had been cooked two days before but at least were hot. The croissants also tasted a day old and the prices were super expensive, I think they charged 5 Eu for a bottle of water. Will not return and recommend just going to Paul across the street. Much better food, better prices and better service. read more

Pleasant, small boulangerie and patisserie with very friendly staff and delicious baked goods and pastries. There isn't much room inside, but gives the 'old city' feel when you're in the shop. The staff has good understanding of english if you have trouble expressing what you'd like in French. We witnessed them be very patient with one over the top customer who was frankly rude to their faces. They didn't miss a beat. The one thing I might knock is that the coffee here, like at many other cafes in Paris, comes from a digital coffeemaker and thus tastes more like a keurig brew than an artisanal cafe brew. But again, that's very typical for the area. Not especially cheap as far as boulangeries go, but the quality of the service made me feel okay with the 0.5-2 euro overpay on some items. Glad we stopped in accidentally for breakfast. read more

I stopped here on my way to the airport. The croissant was delicious and I got the Pain au chocolat. The server at the counter was very nice and the bakery had a welcoming atmosphere. Definitely recommend this bakery! read more

Stopped by here for lunch, we were absolutely starving and in deep desire for just a sandwich. We got the croque mousier and the ham and cheese on a baguette. There was one lady running the whole store and it was very busy to our surprise. There was cute outdoor and indoor seating, but a very small intimate space. Both of the sandwiches were absolutely delicious. So happy we stumbled upon this place. read more

We went for their quiche but we loved everything else other than the quiche. The lox bagel was delicious and this is what I imagined palmer would taste like in Paris. Found this place while searching for a quick nearby breakfast. It's located on a very lively street - lots of shops, restaurants, and bakeries. The pastries and the coffee here was pretty good, however, the pastrami sandwich we got was very dry and looked like it's been sitting out for a few days. The staff was a bit rude too/seemed annoyed. A good quick spot for a coffee and a pastry, but I would be careful with the sandwiches. 3.5/5 read more

I am so sorry that I didn't find this great little bakery until my last day in Paris. I would have gone back every day to try everything they offer. I did try the quiche Lorraine which was incredible. The texture was like silk and the flavors were deep and layered. I'm still dreaming about it! We also tried a hazelnut crème pastry that was buttery and flakey with the perfect amount of sweetness, caramelization and distinct hazelnut flavors. I can't wait to go back to Paris to try everything at this great little hidden gem! read more

A perfect place to grab you food and site outdoors as it is perfect for people watching. We stopped here on our first day in France and tried a baguette sandwich, their chocolate cake and some gelato. Every one of the food items we picked were simple but tasted great. The latte could have been more hot. The baguette sandwich was nice and crunchy with high quality cheese inside!! Gelato were a hit as they tasted awesome... Very good little cafe in the 6th arrondissement of Paris. You can seat outside and watch people passing by. As you can see on the picture, they give you a lot of food. And most importantly, it's very good. I got a lunch menu for 10 euros. For this menu you can choose between croques monsieurs or all the quiches they have. For me, I opted for the quiche lorraine, a bottle of water and a quiche lorraine. read more

My husband & stumbled upon this bakery when we were last in France, and came back in 2 more times in the same trip! It was probably my favorite place to eat the whole time we were there. The staff is so patient & kind, especially considering our lack of ability to speak French. The pastries are so delicious, and we loved the sandwiches we ate just as much! We'll definitely return on our next trip to Paris! (The only thing I'd note is that there is very little seating or very much room at all - so be aware of that if you go during peak dining hours! but then again, that goes for just about any cafe in Paris ;) read more

I leniently give them 3 stars, because they are located in a tourist area of Paris, and because they can do what they do. The marinated herring with onions, sweet pepper slices and bay leaf were delicious. The sandwiches were delicious, too, but although the bread and ingredients were seemingly fresh, the sandwiches were pre-made for take-away. So, the sandwiches were a bit soggy inside, and limp on the crusts. I suppose a sandwich/deli shop in a tourist area must be prepared for hordes of hungry, impatient customers who don't care or can't tell if the sandwiches are made-to-order or pre-made. Unfortunately, I do. That's why my mom and wife think I'm so darn finicky. read more

We sat here for a few moments and ate our tart de framboises, which is pricey but I definitely recommend it. Perfect balance of cream, raspberries, and a crisp tart. Touristy area because of all the galleries, so it's a nice place to people watch, as well. read more

This place was so close to my hotel, I came here almost every other day. The croissants were light fluffy and flaky! They have pastries, sandwiches, yogurt, juice. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, bread and so much more. There's only 1-2 tables in side that's big enough for 1-2 people. But they have outdoor seating area with heat lamps and blankets. It's so Parisian chic. Last but not least, their palmier... it's so unique. It's gigantic! It's flat. It's flakey. It's out of the world. It's definitely a must try if you're in the neighborhood. It's crunchy, so beware of crumbs flying everywhere. read more

Dropped by this morning on my hunt for a good baguette and was actually headed to another spot on my list when I happened to walk by The Smiths Bakery. Even in the rain, this quaint little bakery was too charming to pass up so I was drawn in. I am SO glad I did! I had the quiche saumon and a palmier. The quiche saumon was good, decent salmon to egg etc ratio, and the palmier.... THE PALMIER WAS AMAZING!!!! Chewy yet crunchy, with an almost toffee-like texture. It was nice to relax at the end of each evening sitting outside and enjoying a nice ice cream from Berthillon. The flavors and quality are very good. Located at the center of a wild and crazy area in St. German, this is one of the more low-key spots so you can enjoy all the people watching, but not necessarily have to deal with the hecticness in the area. read more

This is a small bakery that has quiches, bread, and some sandwiches. We stopped here to pick up a quiche for the wife's breakfast the next day. The store is small so the selection is not huge, but the quality is high. Service was pretty fast and prices are in line with the going rate in Paris. We paid 4.50 euro for a quiche. read more

Great bakery to visit when in Paris! There was a huge selection of sweet and savory items as well as great beverage options. The staff was incredibly friendly and answered all of our questions immediately. We got a sampling of a few French classics such as quiche, mousse, croissants, and café. Everything was wonderful. We sat outside and watched the morning commuters and enjoyed the views from their patio. Would definitely return here on another trip to Paris. Highly recommend! read more

One would think that a Paris bakery using an Anglo name would leverage that Anglo background for better service?!?! Well, not at Smiths. Attitude and small portions. Incidentally, the ice cream they serve (Berthillon) is said to be some of the best but the prices here are extra high while the scoops are extra small. For Berthillon, one's better off taking the 10 minute walk to the real thing on Ile Saint Louis. read more

Came here on our first morning in Paris after a long flight the day before. We're sooooo glad we did. We got two americano's, a quiche to share, and two croissants. The service was VERY friendly and immediately put to bed any stereotypes about the French being snooty that were lingering in the back of our mind. The croissants were delightful. Outside perfectly crisp and flaky with a buttery soft inside. Just the right balance of melt-in-your-mouthness with a little density. The spinach and cheese quiche was also terrific. The cheese used was quality and distinct without being overbearing. Coffee was from a nesspresso machine I believe, but nonetheless it was still pretty good. Definitely hit the spot. Overall, this is a great bakery with lovely service. We will be going back to try out more things this morning! The outdoor seating is nice, with heaters to keep you warm as you watch the world guy by on this quant little street. read more

When I dream of croissants from our trip to Paris, these are the ones I dream of. Flakey, light, and buttery. The plain ones are delicious, and the chocolate ones are even better. We had them almost every day except for the last day when they ran out of plain croissants. Pack some in your bag for a day of sightseeing! read more

We were in Paris on our honeymoon, and our hotel recommended this gem to us to stop in and grab sandwiches to go for a picnic. The hotel concierge said he comes here daily on route to work for coffee and pastries, and we quickly saw why. It was delicious and reasonably priced. Ended up coming three times in a single week for sandwiches and pastries, and once more en route to the airport to bring sandwiches with us on the plane as we left - it was that good! Simple, delicate, delicious! Cannot wait until we can return! read more

I would not say it was the bomb, just ok or am I expecting to much from the highly praised french bakery? I'm not sure. The cookies were tasty, the chocolate eclair not so good but the caramel eclair was ok. I enjoyed the walk from the Notre Dame to this bakery the most. The sandwiches here are delicious! I love their Croque-monsieur. This is a great place to stop at if you are walking around St. Germain. Definitely try to sit outside because the atmosphere is wonderful and the area is perfect for people watching. It's also a short walk across the river from Notre Dame. Every time I've been to Paris I always make a point to stop here - hopefully I will go back soon! read more

The service was always friendly and efficient. Often this place was busy but service was quick. No outdoor seating, and they were open until 8pm which was awesome. Later in the day you'll find that pastries and bread are not as fresh but even though we got macaron "sandwiches" at 7pm and they seemed a little damp from the fresh fruit in them, the taste was delicious. The outer shells of the macarons were slightly tough but the overall texture wasn't bad. the berries (we tried frambriose and fraise, or raspberry and strawberry) were incredibly fresh and tasty. I'm sure if we had purchased them earlier in the day they would have been even better. We also had the coffee eclairs and they were amazing!!! I don't care that much for eclairs as I do no like the type of bread used for them, but these were good enough that I'd get them again. The filling was rich and the coffee taste was outstanding.
