    Macarons and tarts
    Ina F.

Fantastic place to pick up a bit of everything. The Luxembourg gardens are right nearby so you can stop here and grab everything you need for a lovely little picnic. There are hot snacks (sandwiches, soups, quiches), pastries (croissants, Pain au chocolat, etc) and sweets (tarts, chocolates, macarons) We had a little bit of everything and they were all fantastic. The almond and chocolate pastry was a big winner for us, and I really enjoyed the quiche. Service was quick and the staff was so nice. Took the time to answer our questions and wrapped everything well for the walk to the gardens.

This place is amazing! Their desserts and pastries are reasonably priced and so decadent, yet not overly rich. I bought one of my favorite French pastries that's difficult to find in the States: une tarte au poire. They have huge pear tarts but also small ones too for smaller groups. The financiers were unique and different, they had savoury items, and the coffee was strong. Because we were in a hotel, we only ordered ready to eat items, but I'd be willing to come back and try tartelettes that need to be reheated or larger cakes that need to be refrigerated. Their macaron cakes looked amazing. Authentic patisserie shop where everyone can find something they love. I come here at least once or twice per trip, and there are no regrets! Only con is super limited seating (1 table for two inside, 1 or 2 benches outside). It's definitely a to go spot, but I still love it!

Cute bakery with cheap baked goods and variety of options! I got a regular and a chocolate croissant here. They were both a bit dry and tough in texture. This bakery makes for an easy stop for a quick bite!

Loved all the food and pastries here. My friends and I had to stop by here every single morning. That's how good it was. Wish I was in Paris longer to try more stuff. I was like a kid in Willy Wonka's Factory. I bought everything from croissants to foie gras pate to artichoke/olives. Ps the customer service is amazing too.

One of the best croissants I have had

Gerard Mulot had my favorite croissant that I have ever had. After checking into our hotel a block away, we headed straight to Gerard for a croissant and some pastries. Although the store is not very big, there were plenty of options for breads, pastries, sweets, and of course, their famous croissants. You start on one end of the store for your pastries, sandwiches, etc, and you get a ticket of your order while they box up your order. You then take the ticket to the cashier, where you can select more breads, etc. I like that they take credit cards at this store. Here are some things that I tried: Croissants: I wanted to true experience, so I only ordered the plain ones. Wow, so flaky and buttery, my new standard for croissants. Apple and raspberry tarts: these were really good, with nice fruit taste Macarons: nice selection available Overall, we stopped by Gerard Mulot about 3 or 4 times during our three day stay in Paris. I will definitely return when back in Paris.

My mom had the eclair to the far left and I had the brownie pastry centered.

They have a little bit of everything & all that I tried was deelish! The pastries were so tasty that my mom went there 3x during our stay. They are conveniently located at the corner and have 2 entrances and exits. Not much seating but you do have the option to sit. I gave 4 stars because my mom and I ordered separately and paid separately but they put our orders in the same bag and when we asked the gentleman to separate them he seemed a bit irritated. The boxes were taped so we didn't check to make sure we had our correct orders. We parted our separate ways and later found that we had each other's pastries. This could have been avoided had we each been given our individual orders in the beginning. Fortunately, that didn't take away from the flavor! Would definitely visit again!

the most delicious strawberry tart I've had! Would 100% get again

The strawberry tart was amazing - the pain au chocolat and the sandwich I got were both just ok. 5 stars for the strawberry tart, but unfortunately 4 stars for the whole thing. I will be back, for perhaps a larger strawberry tart this time!

By far the best Macaroons I have ever tasted. Best ones yet. Busy bakery but it's worth the walk and the wait.

This is the definition of a French bakery. My goodness. But it is so much more than a bakery too. We walked in the front door and were greeted by a wall of bread on the other side of the shop. Beautiful baguettes, rolls, sweets glittering with sugar... To get to the bakery part of the boulangerie, you had to walk down the length of the counter, which was filled with cases of luscious food. We were particularly taken by the dazzling array of quiches. It is definitely the type of place that is part market and part restaurant, and if I had more time, I would have totally eaten a lot of food. This is also where our tour guide showed us these amazing little donut balls made out of patachou (the same dough they make cream puffs out of) and coated in heavy cube sugar. Ingrid, our tour guide, told us it's common to get a dozen of those and a coffee and make that breakfast. They are like the best version of Munchkins or doughnut holes EVER.

Meeting the French. Of course one is expected to meet the French while in Paris, but I'm referring to the popular tour which takes you inside Gerard Mulot's bakery, spending time in each section of the kitchen: macaron room and chocolate room. You get an introduction into the art of making macarons (see all the cool equipment, ask the patissier for all his secrets!) and chocolates. I did not take the tour, but am compelled to mention it because it was such a great experience for a close friend and his wife. They so loved it, that they kept returning to Gerard Mulot to sample different desserts and macarons - to the exclusion of other, critically acclaimed patisseries. So, as deference to their judgment, I feel I must identify what could be a really cool experience for visitors to Paris... What I remember most about Gerard Mulot is how crowded the shop was with locals. I suppose it's the location, but I definitely think many of the other patisseries I visited to had a lot more tourist clientele. The staff was helpful, and described (briefly) to me the various pastries and macarons. I quite liked the flavor combinations at Gerard Mulot, eventually purchasing four: Rose with Cherry, Mint Leaf, Pineapple Ginger and Strawberry Poppy. I found the combinations different, but not weird - unlike some combinations at other shops that I thought were weird just for the sake of it! Just one bite of the macaron, and you appreciated both the texture and flavor. I also tried three pastries from here: Palerme: shortbread topped with pistachio mousse, enrobing a centre of dark chocolate mousse & kirsch soaked dark cherries, topped with fresh fruit (strawberries and raspberries) Duo poire caramel: biscuit with walnuts and rice krispies, pear mousse, caramel mousse, caramel icing Coeur Frivole: chocolate almond biscuit, milk chocolate mousse, dark chocolate mousse, almonds, dark chocolate ganache They were all good, though not transcendent - and have been favorably profiled in other reviews as well. The one I liked most was the Duo Poire Caramel, with the delicious, translucent caramel icing, and the creamy (though not intense) caramel mousse playing starring roles... Would I be back? Only if I were in the area. Sailors are said to have a sweetheart in every port... In Paris, tourists should find amour in every arrondissement... ;)

This. This is why I love Paris. I have a 17 year relationship with this shop and the quality and service has never wavered. Exceptional. The last time I was in Paris, Yelp was a small, largely unknown web site just getting off the ground. Had I been a member then, my review would be the same. Pricey, yes. But we tried a couple of other bakeries in the neighborhood and agreed: not even close to the quality. Worth every single Euro. Our favorites: quiche lorraine, eclairs, the baguettes, and the dessert pastries are small works of edible art. The baguettes are as good as we've found in four extended vacations here, that good. Want to stop to eat here? There is a small bar with 3-4 stools and the coffee is as good as the boulangerie. HINT: dear fellow American, if you find the staff is rude and that's part of your review, it's likely YOU are the problem. Petty. Witnessed it this morning when an elderly gentleman pitched a fit because he didn't understand the billing system and the way each item is carefully wrapped. Embarrassing. He should have apologized, but of course, didn't. I shall return again, and again. As long as I'm coming to Paris the rest of my life, if there's a Gérard Mulot I will be there, even if there's an ugly American in front of me.

Everything is wonderful here but I am obsessed with their chicken and tomato sandwich. The bread is fresh of course but the chicken and tomatoes have so much more flavor than what I can get in the US. My husband also loves the ham and cheese on a baguette. Can't wait to return

This spot at the Carrousel du Louvre is a full service shop that gives out samples and allows you to build a box rather than just grab a premade assortment from a kiosk. I say this because we walked all over on our last day (wanting to make our own boxes) so we found out where the full-service shops were. The people who work here are very patient and kind while you make your selections. And of course, it's fun to sample the decadent merchandise. I highly recommend the Maracuja (dark chocolate w/ passionfruit pulp ) or the Salvador (dark chocolate ganache w/raspberry pulp). We made the mistake of turning our kids into chocaholics so we had to pay the price and bring them both home a box. Couldn't forget one for ourselves either. Each box comes with a handy picture guide so you can identify the merchandise. Or just pop one in your mouth and be happily surprised.

The BEST!!!!!! Oh…read moreman! I will start by saying that I don't even like macaroons in the United States. They are just dry and nasty most of the time lol But in Paris, I decided to give them a try! And I am glad I did. They tasted so good! Seriously, they were delightful little treats. The inside of the macaroons was moist and flavorful, while the outside had a nice firm texture. So good! I almost ate an entire dozen of those by myself! lol My fiancé was not super motivated to try one (probably because they suck in the US), and I kept telling him how good they are. Finally, he tried one and was shocked at how good it was too! They are not cheap. But worth it for a decent macaroon. I can't eat macaroons in the states now lol Ruined me for life. lol

This chocolate boutique was founded in the 80s by Patrice Chapon, once an ice cream purveyor for Buckingham Palace. Since then, he introduced his now-famed bar a mousse concept, allowing chocolate enthusiasts to sample made-in-house varieties of mousse sourced from cocoa beans across the world. I first visited a Chapon outpost on a quiet side street of Saint-Germain-des-Pres. You might miss the narrow storefront and brown awning on first glance, but melon-sized bowls of mousse in the window are unmistakable. The interior is warmly lit, featuring tastefully worn wood motifs. The backlit shelves to the right are curated with prepackaged confections, while the display to the left is decked with à la carte chocolates. We arrived for an early afternoon treat, and the friendly service patiently talked us through and offered samples of multiple mousse varieties. My favorite was the Equadorian, a dark, full-bodied flavor with some floral notes. I also enjoyed my sister's Madagascar, which had a thickness and richness reminiscent of caramel. My mother opted for the lighter, fluffier Peruvian, which was nearly the consistency of meringue. Lastly, the 100% dark Venezuelan had the thickest texture; however, the red wine-y flavor might turn some off. While the mousse is delicious, the prices might be harder to swallow; our 3 small portions ran over 20 euros. Nonetheless, I was impressed by the staff's ability to suggest an ideal mousse to suit each of our preferences. For a unique experience and a mousse that is sure to impress, don't miss out on Chapon.

But if you haven't, this is a strong contender for worthy macarons in Paris and at a convenient location across the street from Ladurée. Located inside L'Occitane in the most gorgeous floor space ever, you will find Pierre Hermé at the center of it all. They have an impressive array of flavors that were much more unique than other patisseries. I definitely asked for a few recommendations as well since I tend to order the same thing (pistachio, raspberry, lemon, etc.) The workers were very kind. They indulged my request to converse in French and corrected me in a respectful and endearing way (I know some people get upset at this idea but I personally prefer it.) I had ordered a dozen macarons but truthfully would've ordered the entire lot if I wasn't alone and especially if I wasn't already taking a ton of sweets back for my flight home. I am a Ladurée purist and what I can say is that Pierre Hermé definitely had the best and most unique flavors compared to the two. The prices are fairly comparable and the coffrets are just as tasteful. Both are strong contenders and worthy of your money. I certainly will be returning and look forward to trying the rest of their selection. (15/50--2025)

Pierre Hermé is home to some of the best macarons I've had in my life -- which is probably too many for the good of my health -- and I was thoroughly impressed by the quality of the macarons, the staff's attention to detail, and all the unique flavors this shop had to offer. As a popular macaron shop in one of the hottest tourist destinations in Paris, this location is undeniably crowded. There's usually a huge line circling around a central display of macaron after macaron. The line looks pretty intimidating, but it moves quite quickly, and there are so many flavors that it'll probably be helpful to have a bit of extra time to review the menu. My friend and I split a pack of four macarons, including their seasonal isapahan (rose, lychee, raspberry), infiniment praliné pistache, and a jardin de cassandre (red currant, rhubarb). The macarons were delightful. I loved the two seasonal items; they were delightfully fruity and slightly floral, and I loved the slightly tangy flavor from the raspberry in the isapahan and rhubarb / currants in the jardin de cassandre. The praliné pistache was nice and nutty, and the inner cream offered a great additional richness. It's usually super crowded so seating tends to be quite limited. My friend and I ended up taking our macarons to go and enjoyed them elsewhere as we toured Champs Elysée.
