I ordered pizza here ob a few occasions. Honestly it's hit or miss. Sometimes it's good other times it's not. I'm writing this review because lately it's been consistently bad. Dry hard dry crust with barely there cheese. Other items on the menu are ok, ravioli is great. I hope they improve the pizza. read more

Updating my review. I have been a customer for almost 20 years and was always delighted with their service and food. Unfortunately, within the last few months, there have been changes to staff and I have been very disappointed with both. I've ordered by phone only to arrive at set time and find it is not yet ready and I'd have to wait for someone to arrive to make my sandwich (which was a gelatinous mess after being tossed together quickly and then nuked). I've walked in and ordered and was told I have to pay first and then had to wait several minutes before my order was relayed to the cooking staff. (Final outcome= undercooked pizza lacking sufficient oil, sauce and cheese.) Tonight, barely any veggies on my veggie pizza. The crust was not cooked enough. It was soft and limp and unappealing. Not much taste either. Restaurant prices are too high now to waste $$ on disappointing food and poor customer service. read more

Great for a quick slice joint and the pizza is pretty close to an NYC slice (at least for Fairfield).

A great spot if you want to pick something on the run. They do not have any seated dining but you are able to order and take home. In addition to the pizza, sandwiches/grinders they also have prepared meals which can be cooked/warmed at home. While we were getting some work done at our home (kitchen) this became our go to spot when we were tired of dining out. Definitely worth the try, I am sure you will find something you like. read more

I placed an order online at 11am for a delivery of 2 pizzas for 5:15pm with specific directions to drop off around the side of the building. The time was important because we were having meetings from 12-7pm and this was our only break with about a 30 minute window to eat. The food came at 5:30pm, to the wrong door/location and they forgot the soda I had ordered as well. My location was literally down the street from the restaurant, not 3 minutes from them. By the time they returned with a soda (to the wrong location again), we were back into meetings ... and it was the wrong soda. We've been going to Maiones for many years but its service quality and operation have degraded badly recently. Great pizza but I will go elsewhere to save ourselves the aggravation from now on. So here goes... On Friday 1/8/2021 I called for a pizza pickup order at 6:30pm. I was told it would be an hour. I thought it was a bit long I said ok no problem. We don't always order from them but we wanted their BIanca pizza with sausage which is really good. At 7:25, I called to check if my order is ready. After 10 minutes on the phone, they tell me couldn't find my order. They said they'll put it in now but it'll get another 35 to 40 minutes. I asked them to expedite they said they'll try. I thought another half hour was not the end of the world. But what was disappointing was Throughout all of this, not a single apology nor admission of fault. At 8:05, I called again to check if my food is ready. They found my order this time but told me it'll be ready in an hour. An hour???? I told them they screwed up the order the first time and I should have been placed at the front of the queue. She repeated they're busy. No apologies and no admission of fault whatsoever for this second screw up. So I canceled the order and called our usual go to place. Pizza was ready in 15 minutes. Friendly and Hassle free. To the owner: doing some simple math will tell you it shouldn't take 2.5 hours for a customer to get a pizza. You have/had great food but you need to review your operations and personnel. Otherwise, you will lose your customers one by one, slowly but surely. I for one will not be coming back. read more

Their pasta fagioli used to be so amazing. The first time I had it the others at work told me how good it looked and smelled. Each week I had more and more people asking me to pick some up for them too, and it became the Friday thing to order. Unfortunately they have changed the recipe. It's really not good. It's basically a tomato broth with chunks of canned tomatoes a few noodles and a few white beans. Also, I never add salt to my food but I had to keep adding salt to get any seasoning whatsoever.... This is a solid take out pizza option in Fairfield. They also have soups, pastas, and some prepared foods. I love the gamberi pizza. The calamari and other sides don't disappoint. I noticed the critical reviews on here are more about a delivery issue and not about the quality of the food. I've always called in ahead and never had a problem. read more

We were told our order would take 40 minutes for delivery. We called every 10 minutes after the 40 minutes went by. They kept saying the driver was en route. 1 1/2 hours later we called and said cancel the order. The owner would not credit us back our money. We were forced to wait for the delivery. There's always a line of people picking up pizza at night here. I prefer theirs to Pepe's and pretty much any other pizza in Fairfield. I'm not totally sold on the restaurant, though. You can't order pizza because they don't have the room to seat that kind of crowd, so the menu is standard Italian dishes. Prices are reasonable, but I was disappointed to notice boxes of De Cecco over the stove last time I was there. Oh well, at least they're using the best dry pasta if they're not making their own. Their food is delicious but I don't like to eat here often because everything is so heavy that it leaves me feeling a little disgusted with myself. If you're ready to destroy yourself at the gym the next day then I'd recommend their gnocchi or the lasagna. read more

Worst customer service!!!! I called it in and arrived after 30 minutes to pick it up. I ordered 1/4 bacon and the rest cheese. They made the whole thing bacon. So they said they had to remake. I had to wait another 15 mins!! & They NEVER APOLOGIZED! Then I asked for a pice of their salmon, and they gave me a tiny piece and tried to sell it to me for 10$!! We have been frequenting Maiones ever since it opened in our neighborhood as a restaurant many years ago. We continued to enjoy their food when it became more of a deli/pizza restaurant and again the quality was consistent. But in the last 6 months or so this is no longer the case. They used to have a case full oF prepared food where you could pick up a great healthy meal to eat at home. They no longer have this. The quality of the food has also is no longer the same. The last several times we have ordered dinner we have been very disappointed. I ordered their farfalle and shrimp which used to be their specialty with an awesome Vodka sauce and it was very expensive and not very tasty. We just had breaded chicken cutlet sandwiches today and they were awful. How do you ruin a chicken sandwich? There was a lovely lady that used to work their, she knew all the customers and she made most of the food but since she left it has never been the same. I don't know if there are new owners but it would be a shame to see this neighborhood staple go out of business because of the lack of quality. The pizza continues to be good and that is now the only reason we will go there. Disappointing!! read more

Came here a week ago and ordered the Ortolana. We replaced the mushrooms with chicken and was excited to give this place a try. The pizza toppings were generous, but I was surprised it was a white pie instead of red. Overall, the pizza needed a little extra flavor to tie in all of the toppings. I also ordered a soup, a hearty pasta fagioloi, and it was tasty. Tip - parking here is very tight and getting in and out of the lot can be tricky. read more

They are near by so we do eat here often. The problem we have encountered over the years is that their food is not consistent. It's really good one day and the next time we order it maybe really bad. It's not inexpensive. It can be very expensive depending on what you like on your pizza. The inside is clean and nice. The people are friendly for the most part. read more

Watched as the man making pizza stopped to answer the phone because the woman at the cash register was helping a customer. He proceeded to take an order over the phone and must have had trouble hearing the person on the other line because he stuck his finger in his other ear to block out the background noise. He then put the phone down and proceeded to continue making the same pizza without washing his hands!! Mind you this was the phone the cashier used several times as she handled people's cash. Once a charming, outliar and ungarnished family-run Maione's restaurant has always stood strong on its own, distant from posh surroundings of Black Rock and Rt. 1 establishments with a quaint setting of few tables. Since reformatted into a hapless market with enough wasted floor space enough to perform cartwheels, Maione's feels like a different place now. Maione's began for me with cherished memories and like dinners within the tuscan-toned dining room and a divided take-out area with rustic oven as a backdrop. Whether it was reflecting on a neighboring table's quickly soured Valentine's Day or the server swapping out the olive oil for a plate of the Extra Virgin for me, all those recollections of years past are memories now. Now, take-out is the only reason to pull up to Maione's. Maybe you can't blame them for uprooting the restaurant portion, which may have been a moneypit for ownership though tables seemed to be filled upon each visit, perhaps it was more than that. Though Maione's still prepares mostly southern Italian, American-friendly staples with an edge not expected from what appears to be a greek slash imposter pizza corner, pizza is their spotlight. Prices are more than fair for the area matched with quality. Having been a regular before Maione's quit the dining portion and reformat of the kitchen, usual concerns about possible changed management and compromised pizza oven came to mind. Though once featured a traditional brick oven has been swapped out for a conventional though taste hasn't declined significantly though is questioned. Even after leaving the Fairfield region, trips to Maione's at least once a month were a given. What ought to put Maione's on the map is their signature Alla Maione, a best described once or twice a year indulgence of mortadella, red peppers and capicola topped pie. A heavenly crispy crust lends itself to another slice of inhaling quality savory perfection that even Pepe's, whose infiltrated Fairfield's southeast end can't touch. One of the best kept secrets in Connecticut. Views reflect those that yearn for classic Maione's, now charmless and lobotomized under its reformat to accompany prepped foods and Boar's Head (like you can't get that elsewhere). A concept that seems to try too hard to be like the astounding A&S on Black Rock. Parking is also tricky but always has been, forcing customers to pull out near traffic lights on a busy crossroad. But classic Maione's? We won't forget you. read more

We've recently moved to the area and heard good things about Maione's so we decided to try it. It's situated right in the center of Stratfield - a super residential part of the Town of Fairfield. They recently renovated and I love it, the kitchen is open layout so you can see the food being prepared. Everything is very clean and sleek, the refrigerators are well lit and the decor is functional meets stylish. Pros: The Deli meats are reasonably priced - they carry Boars head and the sliced meats last just as long as I'd expect from Stop and Shop. The menu is extensive with a lot of variety, all Italian faire. The sandwiches are excellent, the Eggplant Parm and Chicken Parms were delicious. Cons: No seating - they claim it's due to not having a bathroom. They had two tables out tonight in the front parking lot, we needed to carry the chairs outside to actually sit. Salads - a major disappointment, I'd stay away from it all together. We ordered a goat cheese and pear salad - the greens were mostly rough frissee lettuce. The cranberries were actually raisins. It was also pretty expensive, we couldn't help but think we'd been taken advantage. Pizza - bland, although they do have seasoning on the side to spruce it up a bit. Bread - obviously bought in from a vendor, just tasted super cheap - subway quality. Not what you'd expect from an outfit that's attempting to pass itself off as Italian quality. Weird: I was charged a $1.00 "Deli Fee" - the nice lady at the counter didn't explain. I left a $3 tip on an $18 bill so I don't believe it was any kind of service charge. Overall: Maione's has a ton of potential but they're failing on the execution. It's a shame since we would be daily customers if they could just get their act together. The convenient location makes it a great stop to pick up deli meat, packaged goods and beverages. You can find much better pizza and prepared dishes elsewhere. read more
