Not bad at all. We had seen this bar and grill several times as we frequent this shopping center every now and then and decided to give it a go while we waited for my car to get serviced at a local dealership. When we walked in, you could tell there were several regulars...we kind of felt like odd people out but our hostess was sweet and asked where we wanted to sit. We chose to dine outside on their cute patio. It seemed a bit gloomy inside plus the weather was gorgeous so it just made sense. Our server had quite the personality and really made our visit. She had mentioned that the chef had worked at the Brigantine for 18 years and was now cooking at Mainstream. Impressive! What we had: I had the Mainstream Breakfast with sausage and pancakes while the co-habby opted for the same but with bacon and O'Brien potatoes. I always ask for over medium eggs but they came out super runny so I gave them to the co-habby. I also felt like my sausage seemed a tad undercooked so that was transferred over as well...next time I will ask for my eggs to be prepared differently and the meat well done and crisp, like the bacon was cooked. Was not happy with those items at all. Co-habby though loved his meal so he kindly gave me some of his which I ate, along with one of the pancakes. So it worked out. It took awhile before we got our check but I believe our waitress got a little backed up so we were fine with that. I will still return regardless, try out their happy hour and dinner menu or come back for breakfast and try other items. Mainstream Bar and Grill in Poway has become one of our favorite places to have a meal. Sunday's are bottomless $5 mimosa's and are a big hit in my book. I've tried the crab benedict, chicken fried steak and eggs, rib eye steak and eggs, chicken wings, jambalaya, meatloaf, hamburgers, sliders, fries, just to name a few. Food is great, prices are extremely affordable. I don't think I've ordered anything I didn't like. There is plenty of parking, lots of TV's and even a dance or club in the back room. Place is casual and fun with plenty of seating and bar with just about everything you can think of. There is a special every day of the week. For example, Mondays are Taco nights, Tuesdays are $3 off any burger, etc. you get my point. Waiters and waitress are very nice and welcoming. read more

I live in Vista, however, my fiancé is a Poway native. When we began dating he introduced me to this place and I fell in love with it. Every time we visit Poway now we always have to stop at Mainstream. Their food is so good! I highly recommend their nachos, tater tots, potato skins, mozzarella sticks, their guacamole burger and their french fries (so, so, so GOOD). Their server, Brittany, top-notch! I really like this place. The service is amazing and the food is always great. Two days ago I brought my lovely bride along. This time I tried something I've never had on the menu. A burger. I'm picky about my burgers so I don't order them from very many restaurants. I am happy to say I was pleasantly surprised with the jalapeño burger. This half pounders came juicy, hot, with deep fried jalapeños and perfectly toasted bun. This burger was so good that I would stack it against ANY BURGER JOINT in North County. Great hangout place for locals. You can bring the family and friends for some sports viewing, eating and drinking. Be prepared to wait a bit for a table if you have a large party since this venue gets packed especially on weekends. I think you can make reservations (my friend arranged our brunch and she's a regular). Came here for brunch with several friends (we were a party of 7). It took about half an hour for the server to take our food order after we were seated. She was quick to serve the drinks (coffee, water, mimosas). After waiting to place our food order, we waited another 30-40 minutes for our food. Food was ok - no wow factor in flavor or presentation. I think by the time we got our food, I was filled up with the two cups of java and bottomless mimosas. I would be careful with ordering the gravy, though. You can ask to try prior to committing to order. Haha But no kid... you can. I suggest this because one person from our party ordered the biscuits and gravy (with steak) and she said the gravy tasted burnt so she didn't bother eating anything on her plate the gravy touched. It was her mistake for not letting the server know right away, but because the food was so cheap... she decided not to say anything. Upon payment, another person from our table voiced out that the gravy tasted burnt and to avoid serving the gravy to other customers. Even though my friend said she would still pay for the food, the server did not charge our party for the dish ordered. So lesson learned - speak up if you don't like the food. Despite the name and decor having as much personality as a funeral home, the tap beer selection here is pure exceptional bliss. On par with the anywhere in North County. Always something new and interesting. If I'm in the area, I'll stop by here for a mellow place to stop and watch a football game w friends and drink a great craft beer. All the happy hour menu items are worth exploring, especially the taquitos and sliders. Whenever the fire trucks roll out next door the red sirens light up and FireBall Shots are $3. Not bad! Servers have always been consistently fast and friendly too, which is a huge plus. They care. Here's my only gripe: After my group of 3 spent over $100.00 and left a 20%+ tip in cash, I asked for some hot tea since it was cold near the windows. I thought maybe the chef had an off night but when we returned again, my entire party was very disappointed and I was embarrassed for having recommended it. The food presentation was also not appealing at all. I've been here multiple times - both by myself and with my company (we had about 20 folks taking up their entire backroom). They have a great selection of food, the place is clean and the service is very good, but could be a tad bit better. I've found when I go in the mid-afternoon (2-3pm) when they're not so busy in the restaurant, but busy in the bar, I could be a bit neglected (like having to wave down someone to get a refill on my Diet Coke). But when my company was there for a luncheon and one server was working the entire group, she really hustled to keep up and did a great job. They have a daily special and the last time I was there I tried it - it was prime rib that was cooked perfectly with crazy good garlic fries and steamed veggies - it was a great value for the money. I've attached a picture and I like my prime rib mooing, so don't look if you get squeamish at pink meat - but that's how I love it so they definitely got that right. I would recommend this restaurant for casual dining or for group events. I cannot comment on the bar, as I did not drink (was always there on a workday). read more

Seems like a local place and I get it and that's fine, but when someone new comes in, they should make more of an effort to greet them and treat them like the locals. I waited over 10 minutes when I sat at the bar until the bartender finished her conversation with someone before she even greeted me. They weren't even busy at all, and she knew I walked in and sat at the bar. I was meeting a group of people there and arrived early. After waiting for that long, I called my group and told them to meet somewhere else. We were only going to meet there because it's close to where everyone lives. This is my second time and the first time had a similar experience with the customer service. Plus, the food is mediocre at best. Used to be a LePeep.....I like it way better now. Have eaten here three times. Had a Surf&Turf for dinner about 6 weeks ago. It was less than $20.00 and it was good. It was better than I expected....tasty steak grilled like it was requested to be, smallish lobster tail, but it was good. Steamed veggies were crisp and tasted fresh. The second time, had the Cowboy breakfast,(about $15.00) and it was worth every penny. It was a Saturday morning(they are open pretty much every day for breakfast at 7:00 am) They had a bottomless Mimosa for 3 bucks. They bring you a glass of nice quality orange juice so you can make it the strength you want(brilliant!) The breakfast included a whole pile of meats including a good sized ham steak, I couldn't finish it all. Ham steak was good quality, nicely grilled. This last week we went for breakfast again and the owner was there....real friendly and seems to have a good mind for his business. Said they have been open about a year....weekends are mad busy for them, not so much during the week. They have a back room that can accommodate meetings. They have a full bar. The portion sizes are just about perfect. Sara has been our server the last two times and she is cheerful, helpful and on her game. Have to say, this is my favorite breakfast spot in Poway, I won't be going anywhere else from now on....and encourage anyone in the area to check the place out. read more

Sadly this is the only place in town where you can bring your pets to dine with you on the patio but the patio is so filthy, disgustingly, dirty, I have to give my dog a bath when we get home. I mean this place is so dirty it's not even fit for a dog. The service is great, food is ok, atmosphere is good, but can't get over how dirty it is. I have dined inside and although it is a bit cleaner then the patio it still isn't what I would expect for a dining establishment in Poway. My favorite thing about this place is I can bring my dog! And they catered to him! They brought a little dog bowl out for him so he had water while we dined outside. We were there on Halloween and Wendy was our server. She was SO NICE and spent extra time talking to us about her costume (she hand made her tutu). The service alone is worth the 5 stars. It's too bad that Le Peep went out of business and this place still exists. It must be for the bar because the restaurant experience was poor both times we were here. Food: The wings were tasteless and undercooked closer to the bone. The chicken fried steak was way overbreaded, meat was thin and not reminiscent of pounded steak but rather some frozen patty. The cream gravy was again bland and tasteless. Burgers fell apart under the stale buns and were average at best. Service: Never saw the waitress again after she took our order, until we called here back to refill drinks which went unattended. Never got a salad we ordered and when it showed up on the bill she corrected it without so much as an apology or recognition that we never actually got the salad. If the bar is what keeps this place open they should just stick to that. read more

Never been and decided to take my younger son when hubby was out of town. Pros: I waitressed from the age of 16 to the age of 27. So I recognize a good server when I am on the receiving end. Our waitress, Chelsea, was just stellar. Around "enough" but didn't hover. I asked her choice between two dishes and took the one she recommended. She was friendly, but not too familiar. I had the BLT croissant with avocado. Bacon was very old and too crisp, almost burned. Croissant oily. Meh. Fries were surprisingly good. My son had the burger (meat, cheese, bacon and bun). He graded it an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10. (However, he is 12 and loves In and Out). Dessert was a chocolate chip brownie with ice cream. $6.50 for something I could make at home (better) for half that. But, my son was happy, so, there's that. Didn't have any drink, but the wine, beer and cocktail list was interesting. Don't know if I will bring hubby here. It isn't on the level with one of my favorite bars in town/a walk away. read more

Sometimes you crave a chicken sandwich for lunch or a delightful tasty salad but don't know where to go for your fix. Well, Mainstream is the spot. The chicken club sandwich is pretty dam good. They are not tight on the bacon either. The breast is juice and done right with a hint of garlic complimented with a hefty side of fries. So i decided to try this place our after it took over my favorite breakfast place. I ordered the sliders. You can choose to get one burger of each kind. I got the Angus sirloin slider, the Hawaiian burger, and the bbq pulled pork burger. If I could change my mind about eating here I would. When I bit into the pork burger it was disgusting. It tasted like it was just the pork fat not even real meat and had hardly any sauce. When I bit into the Hawaiian burger it tasted as if the only "Hawaiian" thing they put on it was a few slices of pineapple. The meat tasted weird. At first I thought it was my imagination so I chose to move on to the next burger The Angus sirloin. When I think Angus I think decent quality meat. So i tried it and the first thing I notice is the cheese, fake cheese, second thing I notice is the weird tasting meat again. The waitress was really nice when I told her about it, she went and told the manager or whatever. Then came back and told me that the reason it didn't taste good was because the small patties are prefrozen and pervade patties as opposed to the larger burgers that are crafted in the restaurant. I was probably just not used to the lower quality meat. I don't know about you but that seems like B.S. to me. If you craft your burgers in the first place why you wouldn't make the smaller patties out of the same meat. That makes me think that they don't make their bigger patties. They gave me a 20% discount for it not being "what I expected". If I could I would give negative stars for the food. The star that I did give is for our waitresses customer service. The only good thing about this place. If I were to choose to re do this whole experience, I would have chosen to spend 15$ at McDonald's than here. At least they have better tasting burgers, and that is saying something. read more

I started coming here about 2 years ago and they are now my fav place for breakfast because of course you can get drinks such as bloody marys or mimosas. Love the champagne bottle with a side of OJ on Sunday morning with my wife for fifteen bucks. The food has been consistent and great. My favs are the biscuits and gravy with eggs and sausage, the various eggs benedicts and the mexican dishes. I like how they're open early even on the weekends. Love the laid back, local country vibe here. Full bar with great selection with things like Johnny Walker Blue label and Don Julio 1942. They aren't messin' around here. Service has always been good. My fiancé and I went last weekend to see our friends' band and were planning to get a bite and some drinks. We sat in the back bar area. Our drink order was taken right away and it only took a few minutes to get them. However, once we put in our food order, a chili burger and calamari appetizer, we waited more than 20 minutes to get our food. The calamari-cold and undercooked. The chili burger-raw in the middle. Our waitress never came back to see how our food was or to refill drinks. My fiancé finally went to the bartender who took the plates. 10 more minutes go by before our waitress came to our table. The place was not crowded, btw. We were not charged for the calamari. Our friend, allergic to shrimp, ordered chicken fingers & fries. She and her husband said the fries tasted weird. Within a few minutes, she was throwing up. She had to go home and got sick again. Cross contamination anyone? The fries were probably cooked in the same oil as some shellfish. My fiancé started feeling sick after his burger, also. Also, on a smaller note, the 'dance floor' is just painted concrete. We tried to dance but had to stop. Shoes wouldn't slide on the floor and our knees and ankles would have payed the price or gotten injured.
