I was craving Mediterranean food and remembered my friend recommended this family owned local restaurant. I'd never heard of it so we gave it a try for dinner. We had it delivered and it was still nice and hot, smelled amazing and they put a tamper seal on the food which I appreciated for that extra bit of safety. We got the beef kebab with rice and added gyro meat, the chicken shawarma with rice that both came with salads and the garlic bread. All the meat was super flavorful and juicy, the garlic bread was the perfect complement and the tzatziki sauce had a nice kick to it. Not to mention the portions were so big. Honestly, I feel like this is one of the best hitting gems in Poway. I I randomly drove by this place when getting a smog check and noticed that there are a lot of people sitting outside eating and I decided to check it out and it was actually amazing. They have only a couple small tables outside the shop with some umbrellas so if you come out a crowded time, it may be a little busy. I believe that this style of Middle Eastern food was Afghan food. We've been here twice and it tastes exactly the same as the first time we usually get the chicken and beef kebab plate. My husband and I always share the plate for lunch because it's the perfect amount but the samosas are also really good. They have a yogurt sauce and a green sauce which is amazing and the fact that the chicken is so tender and juicy and the steak is so tender as well as just the cherry on top. It's a very small location with only a handful of tables and as we were waiting for our food, a lot of people came by to pick up their orders. Don't let this little hole in the wall location fool you. This place, like the other location, delivers on flavor. We always get a beef & kofta plate, beef & chicken plate, and potato bolani. This place fills a family of hungry dad, female teenager, young female athlete, and mom. Best of all, we come home with leftovers. The rice is light and fluffy, potato bolani is chef's kiss, and the meat is one of the best you'll love. Don't forget the green sauce and garlic sauce. I could drink the green sauce! Always hunting for good middle eastern food, we decided to try Baba Kabob last weekend and were in for quite a surprise! The gyro sandwiches we ordered were packed with finely chopped veggies (yummy), delicious gyro meat, sauce and the pita was grilled perfectly. It was fresh, not dripping in grease. The big surprise came after we took a bite and thought, "This tastes just like the gyros we would get from Ariana Produce in Mira Mesa!" We looked on the Baba Kabob site and there was a photo of the owner!! We moved to Escondido shortly after he left Ariana Produce and opened Baba Kabob on Black Mountain Rd., so we were shocked to "find" his place in Poway !! The expansive menu featuring Afghan delicacies should have tipped me off ... I haven't seen Bolani anywhere else in San Diego. The owner was so nice to us back in Mira Mesa and his family running the Poway store was just as friendly. Congrats on location #2, Baba Kabob! Since then Baba Kabob has become our favorite take out place. Last night my husband said their food is so fresh and tastes home made. He also said they give very generous portions. Their kabobs are so tender. Friends from El Cajon had us over and ordered food from their favorite kabob place that they said is the best. The chicken kabobs were ground chicken molded into kabobs. The food was no comparison to Poway's Baba Kabobs. Instead of listing everything we enjoy there, we highly recommend that you try it for yourself. I will say their hummus is the best I have ever had and their potato sambosas and bolanis are so so amazing and generous.
