I'm sad to have to give a lukewarm review to this place, especially because I had such a great experience my first time, but given how disappointing my recent visit was I had to average it out. I first visited Main Squeeze about 3 months ago in March looking for an acai bowl in Oakland. Upon walking in, I was so impressed by the service - the employees were super excited to be at work, super friendly and gave great recommendations on their menu. I decided on the dessert bowl and was blown away by the quality and portion. The staff generously filled my bowl over the brim with delicious toppings like coconut flakes, honey and fruit. It was the biggest and best acai bowl I've ever had. I instantly fell in love with the quality of the fruit and I can definitely say it WAS THE BEST FREAKING ACAI BOWL I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. Fast forward to a week ago I was still dreaming of the acai bowl I had at Main Squeeze so I swung by to pick up another one. Even though the store was pretty much empty, the staff ignored me as I stood at the counter for ten minutes. Bad sign already, but I wanted that acai bowl so I put up with it. I ordered the same bowl, and this time, they put measly amounts of fruit into my bowl and barely filled my bowl to the halfway point. The acai in the bowl was watered down and tasteless. I felt pretty much ripped off and can't help wondering how my two experiences could be so different. I'm not really sure what happened but I've had Main Squeeze in its hey day and I definitely hope Main Squeeze's management team is working on bringing the quality up to par again. read more

Lukewarm first impressions of this Lakeshore smoothie spot. Service was subpar - dude behind the counter continued talking to a friend as we gave our order, to the point where we felt like we were interrupting a convo and should probably leave. Maybe we came on an off day. Place was acceptably clean but there were smoothie splatters all over the ceiling, lol. We tried the Essential Green and the Golden Sun, both 12oz, for a total of $11 before tip. Not a bad price considering the location. With no line, it took just under 10 minutes to get our smoothies. The Essential Green left something to be desired, pretty bland, but the ingredients at least tasted fresh. The Golden Sun, however, was quite good with a much richer flavor (thanks, in part, to the spices & coconut milk). Overall pretty "meh" experience. Would I return? Probably, but only if I were already in the neighborhood. Would I trek across town just for a smoothie or açaí bowl from this place? Hard pass. read more

Acai bowls in Oakland?! Whaaaa of course I had to try this out! I dragged my husband with me and we found this little gem right on Lakeshore Avenue next to the Lin Jia restaurant. It's a small spot so people should be patient, the wait can go out the door for this freshly made treat. Full disclosure, I am Brazilian and have higher standards, but even comparing this to American versions of açaí I've had, this one was terrible. It tasted like frozen blueberries blended with water. This place is run like a joke. Most of the people who work there are just rude. Period. The açaí bowls are watered (iced) down and pre made straight from the freezer. For what you pay for any of the açaí bowls they could either make them fresh or with more juice, less water. The guy who makes the smoothies doesn't listen when you ask for any add on or changes. This was my first and only time going to Main Squeeze. I was really excited to try it out after looking at the awesome pictures of their Acai bowls on Yelp but once I actually got there I was very disappointed. The customer service was sub par. The girl who was taking our orders had a terrible attitude and it was apparent she didn't want to be there. She yelled out an order which wasn't mine so obviously, I didn't answer and then she says the name again with an attitude so I look up to see whats happening and she's looking dead at me and points to the bowl with an annoyed look. I tell her that's not mine and that I ordered the dessert bowl and she just says ok and tells me it will be about 10 minutes. I finally receive my dessert bowl and I was very excited to dig in. What I will say is that they do fill the bowls with yummy toppings. Everything that I ate on top tasted delicious but the actual acai was flavorless and extremely watered down. I basically felt like I paid $10 for just toppings. Overall I just wasn't impressed with the business. I feel like you can get better service and better acai bowls elsewhere. read more

Being born in Brazil makes it always exciting to have any foods back from the motherland, and don't get me wrong, the place is nice and have a nice menu, however I've never been so disappointed in an açaí bowl as I was today. My friend noticed this little gem was open in our hometown and that we wouldn't have to drive 10 miles every time we wanted a good açaí bowl (since the ratings were 5 stars), but boy were we wrong. I ordered the beleza bowl and paying $7 for a bowl is pretty normal til you see what you get. Presentation wise it looked yummy, however the amount you receive for the price you pay wasn't as exciting, and don't let me get started on the flavor. Anyone who knows what an açaí bowl should taste like, and in adding guaraná, another delicious fruit from Brazil, would not understand why this bowl tasted sour, bitter, and with a funky yogurt/spoiled flavor. I was not able to enjoy my bowl whatsoever despite eating the banana, strawberry and top layer of the granola. I have not tried their smoothie, which is why I'm not rating this place 1 star, but their açaí bowls were very disappointing. I'm hoping my bowl was blended in a dirty blender by accident to justify the flavor. To anyone looking for a well made açaí bowl, just look at Vitality Bowls, you won't be disappointed. Terrible service! Walked up, no line, waited for staff to greet me, nothing, they were too busy texting on their phones, eyes glued to their screens. Waited another 3 mins literally just standing there, glad I wasn't a robber lol. Finally I go "ahem, excuse me". The young lady and young man looked up startled as she comes to the counter. Still no words, no hello, welcome, hi, nothing. So then I say "can I have a wheatgrass shot and a ginger shot". She replies "six dollars" i pay in cash, while paying I ask about the chocolate chip cookies in the case by the register, " are there anymore choc chips coming?" She replies, "whatever is in there that's all THEY have".... THEY? I thought you worked here, but ok. The guy says nothing to me the entire time just stares at me blankly as he's now returned to prepping an order to deliver. He walks by and leaves. She then proceeds to pour the wheatgrass from the container that had already been juiced earlier, how early? I don't know, but I do know there wasn't any customers when I arrived, so I ask can I have some fresh juices wheatgrass, she replies "it's fresh he just made it" I asked again, "May I have my grasses juiced fresh, please?" Unwillingly she turns the juicer on and was about to start juicing some fresh grass, but wait, she was going to juice it in the container that already had juice in from earlier, what is the benefit of the fresh grass if you're going to mix it in with what you already tried to give me that if the old grass from earlier?‍‍ so I speak up and say "do you mind pouring that old juice out and starting fresh?" Another unwillingly sigh and starts the wheatgrass. When finished she says "one shot of wheatgrass" as she puts it on the counter. She then goes to the back closet and closes the door. I'm still waiting for the ginger shot. About 2 mins later she comes out the back door with a confused look about her as to why I'm still standing there. I then say "can I get the ginger shot?" She replies "he gave it to you!" I reply simply with "nah, didn't get it" now the guy comes back in and she asked him "didn't you give him the shot" he says "no". She thens sighs again and proceeds to pour the ginger. When finished sits it on the counter and turned to walk away. No thank you, come again. Have a great day. Nothing I like the idea and concept of this juice bar, great location and walk up capacity. However the staff on this particular day, Tues 4/16/19, 11:50am, was THE FREAKING WORSE!! Coming from someone who owns a juice business and have worked in a few juice bars for the past 10 years this has been my worse experience as far as customer service. Main Squeeze ownership please train your staff in the importance of customer service it will make or break the business. As now I will never return to this establishment. When you go here, order the "Clifford" I'm trying to make it a "thing". They claimed, upon my request that if I call in ahead and say "the Clifford" they will know what it is. I've been going here for a few months and I always do a custom green smoothie. Yesterday's smoothie was particularly delicious and great: Heavy greens (chard, kale & spinach) giving you a great amount of highly bio-available magnesium. Blueberries for their antioxidants. Coconut milk Almond butter (healthy fat) Flaxseed (healthy fat + fiber) Moringa - a truly magical plant (https://therenegadepharmacist.com/moringa-benefits-health-benefits-medicinal-uses-moringa/) The only sweetness is provided by the carrots and half a serving of green apples, which means it is fairly low on the glycemic load. I tried to mimic the "Dr. Rhonda Patrick micronutrient smoothie", but they do not have avocado here (hopefully they will soon) and I prefer no bananas, which they do have, in my smoothies. So neither of those items are in "the Clifford". Lastly, FYI: "The Clifford" is vegan. read more

The smoothies and juices are delicious. The workers are incredibly helpful, respectful and engaged. BUT I am not sure if it is the boss or the manager -- he is extremely uptight, unfriendly and rather exudes a lot of control and shitty vibes towards the workers and customers. It makes the juice-smoothie ambiance very uncomfortable and you start wondering if the employees are not treated right. I know it is hot and there are many customers lined up but it doesn't help to add more stress on the workers or just straight up be rude. He needs to take a training on how to treat workers and customers with respect. read more

As a açaí bowl lover who has tried bowls from at least 30 different places, and having been here over 20 times I am finally going to write my review...I can't get over the process here. I'm okay to wait but when you have to wait and get uncustomized "bowls" I finally was able to watch the process and finally figured out why my bowls (compared to others) seemed so watered down. When the bowls are made, in effort to make more of them, they use a TON of ice in the blend. This is like getting a shot of tequila with half water? Sure all the ingredients are there but it's only half of the picture. I can't deny the rest of it in the fruit being decent and the presentation is good. Ever have a bad day and then someone just does something so sweet it puts a smile on your face? Well that was me a few minutes ago. I was walking down the street in a funk when I saw this girl with a juice in her hand and I immediately thought, "I need a juice! !" I was so thirsty, I was practically running down the street. I walked in, but I didn't realize they were closing and couldn't ring up my order. I think it was the owner who smiled at me, quickly made my juice, and gave me my drink for free instead of turning me away! ! He was a total sweetheart along with the 2 other friendly employees in the shop.
