This store has the most disrespectful and dismissive staff. They make no attempt at customer service and are incredibly lazy staff. I attempted to buy a helmet for my daughter. They were too lazy too unpack a few boxes and find the appropriate fit. The staff member started calling my daughter's head asian and saying he was unable to help because they didn't carry helmets for asian shaped heads. Technician was very thorough to the point he took the bike outside to " break in " the pads. He made time to do this today since I explained I had a group ride on the weekend. Do NOT bike to be serviced here, They will rip you off! Ever since Vinnie left, I noticed the service wasn't good and my bills were going up. Things came to a head this past summer when they tried to charge me over $400 for a relatively minor repair on a bike that was less than a year old. I asked for a detailed estimate and sent if to a friend who is s former professional cyclist and works in the industry. He told me that even if it needed the work they said it did, which he found very unlikely, they were charging far too many hours for the repairs. Long story short, I took it to another shop and got everything fixed for $80. That was 6 months ago and the bike still works like new. read more

I can't say enough great things about this shop and their bike mechanics, specifically Vinny. I have literally taken my bike to every shop in the Philadelphia area and Vinny is by far the best mechanic that has worked on my bike. He pays attention to every detail and checks every aspect of the bike. I once brought in a bike that had been hit by a car and had years of neglect and Vinny fixed it up so well that my friend raced a half Ironman on it. My current bike is a specialized Amira that gets abused, be it on the trainer or on the road. Vinny has brought it back to life more times than I can even remember. He always upgrades components when needed - I needed a new cassette and he was honest about getting a cassette that was the best fit for my bike - but also the best value. Last weekend I crashed on that bike and within one day he had it ready to go, for an upcoming race. He is also amazing at sales - he taught me more about helmets today than I ever thought I needed to know, and guided me on the best products for racing. He went over the carbon frame with me and inspected it thoroughly - this is a mechanic that cares about the bike and the rider. He has experience working with mountain bikes, commuters, anything - and I trust him to keep my bikes maintained and I trust him to keep me safe on the road. Also in general Main Line has bikes and gear you can trust that was chosen for a reason, because the items are high quality and competitively priced. This is the kind of place anyone can go into- from newbie to pro and get the same excellent service. Main Line's staff and service have been excellent for me - quick service, and clear communication. They've helped me with bike builds, complex mechanical issues and even warranty problems. I've taken bikes to their service manager, Vinny, for many years but all the staff there appear to do excellent work (they just did an amazing job of putting new logos on a set of wheels for me!). I'm also excited about the addition of Main Line to the Philadelphia Bikesmith family. They sell new bikes & accessories here. The place is filled with great bike techs & the vibes are oh so positive. I'm happy to have found mainline cycles for all my future bike needs. Just stop in to have them take a look at your cycle. No matter how busy they may be they never turned me away to not take 5 minutes to answer my questions or concerns. Their prices for tune ups start at about $65 & up which is pretty reasonable for the area. That includes all labor so you only pay for parts if necessary. I came here because I purchased a used bike off Craigslist & wanted to know if I got a good buy. Well to my surprise it wasn't but these guys truly made me feel like I didn't do a horrible job. They were so informative, attentive & honest. They ordered the parts I needed & fixed my cheap department store used bike. I came back 3 weeks later with another bike my partner purchased for me & of course I brought it back here to have them check it out. Well this used bike was a great buy. Nick checked it out , put air in my tires, installed a new kickstand & did a quick inspection. All I paid for was the kickstand; that goes to show you that they truly care about every customers needs. read more

Absolute nightmare of an experience. I took my bike here to get a general tune-up, and to repair an inoperative front brake (no braking power). It's a long story but I will just stick to the highlights. The work order for my bike was lost along with some parts. It took 6 weeks total to get my bike back. I had to call almost weekly for updates, and had trouble getting details on what actually was going on each time. When I got it back it was in worse condition than when I dropped it off. The front brake was fixed, but the rear had no stopping power. The rear brake lever was damaged and there was brake fluid leaking from the reservoir. There were scratches/scuffs all over the hardware for the brake lines that looked like somebody wasn't careful with their tools, or just didn't care about my bike. The bike had new brake pads on both wheels, which is confusing to me since when I originally brought it in they said the brake pads were fine. Twice when I called they actually asked if I brought the bike in with wheels on, as if they were trying to figure out if the wheels had been lost as well. My roommate and his girlfriend both bought bikes from there. He has had rear brake problems since buying, and he told me this morning her rear shock is broken. Just about the only thing they did right was not charge me for the "service". But the true cost was missing out on riding most of the summer while my bike was in the Main Line shop. The bike is in another shop now getting fixed. read more

I live in NE Philly and work in Lower Merion. I ride my bike to work everyday. I recently got a flat tire and was unable to put it on the bike rack on the Septa bus because it's an ebike (tires are too big). This shop was the closest to my job so I had to walk it there (2.2 miles). The guys there were very welcoming and was able to fix it for me right then and there. I recently had my electric bicycle serviced and paid for a tune up there. First, they brought the bike out when it was done and paid for with two flat tires. Then, later I discovered the handlebars were loose and when I turned them the wheels did not turn. This is unsafe. I do not recommend this place for any service, it is overpriced and they do not do a good honest job. read more

I bought my first road bike from the guys at Main Line, as well as had service performed when I messed up my first road bike, and referred 2 friends here - all top-notch experiences - these guys are really awesome. When I was buying bikes, I shopped all over Philly and tried basically every shop, and found a lot of the same stuff - really unhelpful staff, high prices, or sales people who were just trying to sell me a bike quickly without figuring out what I needed. Oh, and of course, you had the classic arrogant-bike-shop-guy at 90% of these places. Main Line got it all right, with none of the junk or arrogance. They took time to find the perfect bike for me, and it was even on sale (awesome), and I've now been riding it for months and couldn't be happier. So I'd definitely recommend them, 100%. Customer service 5/5. I brought my bike in today thinking both tires were flat and realized they were just out of air! The tires had been leaking in storage and all I needed was some pressure. The Main Line Cycles employee laughed it off, halted mid-repair of another bike and put pressure in both tires. We waited 5-10 minutes to make sure no air was escaping and I left. I was nervous about walking into a bike shop to ask for my pre-purchased bike to be assembled. Not only had I read many reviews of other shops in the Philadelphia area that offered rude service and negative attitude towards the less knowledgeable biker, but most of these negative reviews were also from customers actually looking to buy bikes in those shops- and I was going to be bringing one in. That said, I'm giving Main Line Cycles 5 stars. I'd give them 10 stars if that was possible. They could not have been more polite or professional about assembling my bike and answering my questions honestly. I have lived in the neighborhood my whole life (I'm 54) and never have I had such poor customer sevice!! Ohh sure they're all nice and sweet when they are up-selling you a bike you know isnt right for you, but when you bring it back after one ride ( and want to buy another 2!!) they suddenly become a bunch of Assol*s - and throw it back at you. The bike was BRAND new when I brought in having ridden it once (no different than it's many test rides before I purchased it!! Tried to work it out with the owner but he obviously knows nothing about his "Fanatical customer service" posted on their web site!! I would never buy from them again!! Went up the street to Human Zoom and they sold me what I wanted!! Went back and bought my son a bike!! Now I'm dealing with my Credit Card co to get my money back. I was recently in the market for cycling shoes. I originally decided to check out REI where most of any options there ranged from $100-$180. This does not even include the cost of the clips or an "installation" charge of $20. Before pulling the trigger I checked out Main Line Cycles and I'm so happy I did! I discussed shoe options with one of the associates who was very helpful and decided to go with a shoe that was on sale for $60 from $150!! The quality was just as good as the shoes I was trying on at REI and the guy installed the clips in a matter of about 5 mins with no crazy "installation" charge. I recently went with my brother to Main Line Cycle for him to purchase a new bike. The bike sales man greeted us at the door and asked us what type of bike we were looking for. I explained to him my brother needed a bike that he can ride to lose some weight and get into shape. Maybe something that could withstand a 10-15 miles ride. After explaining that to him the first thing he said out his mouth was "Ok that sounds great first I want to mention none of our bikes are Under $700". When he said that me and my brother looked at each other in totally disgust because neither of us said anything about the price we are trying to spend on a bike. I started to breakdown my knowledge for cycling and he seemed to be shocked that I knew more about the bikes he had on his display then he did. We left without purchasing a bike and went to Keswick Cycle Paoli were there customer service was above and beyond better than Main Line Cycle. They helped us choose the right bike for my brother without worrying if we were able to afford the bike based of the Color of our skin. I never wrote a review on any services I received with a business on here but I felt this one needed To be written so this issue won't happen to someone else of Color. BTW we spent $1400 on a new bike not that it really matters. read more

I've had mixed experiences here. I am an experienced recreational rider and bike commuter, and I have my favorite shop in the city, but this place is very convenient to where I live. When they offered a free tune-up as part of their grand opening, I took advantage. The service guy told me I needed a new rear wheel IMMEDIATELY and that it was not safe to ride on. He couldn't quote me a price right away, so I gave him my email address and asked him to get back to me ASAP. Then nothing! I called and emailed repeatedly, and he never got back to me. Meanwhile (freaked out), I went to my regular shop, where they told me that the wheel easily had another 6 months of pretty heavy riding left on it. Frustrating! Needless to say, I didn't go back for a while. Recently, I have gone back for little service-related things a few times, and I have generally found the same very helpful customer service that other reviewers have mentioned. No-cost tweaks and helpful hints, quick service when I'm in a hurry, etc. Very friendly! I am still smarting from my initial experience, but if things keep going the way they have been lately, I will have to reconsider and update my review. Decent selection of bikes and accessories; pricey, as befits the local clientele. read more
