The worker fixed my chain and had me back on the streets and ready to strike again in under five minutes and for a paltry $5. After refusing to go to those rip off other bike shops to fix my commuter bike... good old yelp led me to mexibike. Best decision ever. My poor bike was in pieces, sitting in the corner weeping, yearning to be fixed after someone totally ruined her derailer while I was at work. Took her to Mexibike and apparently I was even missing part of her in the trauma incident. I was told the derailer wasn't broken and just needed a $19 part. Then he asked if I had a flat in which I responded "just fix her all". So... for a $19 part, full tune up, fixed flat, new $7 blinking back light, and super speedy HONEST service, I paid a total $52 and left a tip. Definitely found my new bike shop... and would recommend to anyone who's been looking for that reasonable, great service, shop. read more

CASH ONLY!!! Thought I should put that warning at the beginning.... Anyway, after suffering my third flat in about a week, I found myself back at Mexibike a couple days ago. This time I brought a deep-V wheel set that I purchased a few months ago and was finally ready to have installed. I picked out some tires, and they did the rest. Once again, I was out of there in under ten minutes--impressive considering everything I needed done. Unfortunately I didn't realize that they were a cash-only establishment, but they were kind enough to let me pay what I could, leave my old wheels as collateral, and return once I had the rest of the money. Great service! The prices are standard, maybe slightly cheaper than other bike joints, but definitely convenient for those in Bella Vista/East Passyunk. Honest, fast, and most affordable spot in the city. If you can somehow get your bike to their shop, you will save a lot of money on your repair needs. I appreciate their honesty and will always wait till I can take my bike out to them to get my repairs. They are cash only so don't forget to stop by the ATM on your way to the shop. FEB 2017 UPDATE: Recently had them replace inner tube ($10) and spoke ($10) ... still my go to even though I moved a mile farther away ============================== I don't always Yelp, but when i do it's because someone deserved it (for better or for worse). Another solid experience today ... so glad I went there over the (closer and ill-reputed) shop around the corner from me. I might argue the inner tube replacement ($10 installed) is a bit high but I'm cheap. That said, they're also well honest. they could have sold me on a rim or a tire, instead they said I can replace a broken spoke ($8 installed) ... just like that, I'm on the road safely again. My only regret is they aren't closer to where I live (I'm lazy, too). read more

Based on the other reviews I was ready to love this place but alas, I can't. I went for a tune-up. When I picked up my bike, I noticed that the cable I use with my U-lock was missing. When I mentioned it, the salesperson presented me with a much shorter one. After some haggling, she finally brought one of the right size but I could tell from the look of it that it wasn't mine. I took it anyway to close up business. After riding my bike for a while, it seemed as if nothing had been adjusted. The gears were not functioning properly, and the rear brake actually seemed worse than when I had dropped it off. There was looseness in the connection between the handlebars and the body that I had not experienced previously. Without consulting me, they changed and charged me for new brake shoes, even though the brake shoes they replaced were less than a year old and better than what they gave me. I soon found that my new, ostensibly adjusted, rear brakes were useless in the rain. All this for the low low price of 60 bucks. Just one more Philly business that, in keeping with the local culture, does practically nothing for the money and hopes you don't notice. And, of course, they get raves on Yelp, like every other shit business in this town. Gosh you people really need to travel more. Low expectations seem to be the only thing the Philly educational system instills in everyone. I've been trying to love this city for the year I've been here, but I'm done. Half this city does shit work -- rudely -- while the other half applauds. I'm over it. I've never a seen a more complacently incompetent place in my life. read more

Spectacular little bike shop! I took my old road bike in here because it had a broken spoke and figured I might as well get a tune-up also. The prices simply cannot be beat and the bike is riding like a dream. I obviously needed a tune-up more than I realized because the difference is incredible! The guy may not SEEM like the friendliest or most welcoming bike mechanic, but it's simply because he doesn't speak very much English. My pump stopped working on Saturday, so I stopped into Mexibike to ask for some air. There were two guys there, but I think one of them was just hanging out. While I was waiting, the Mexibike guy was going over a piecemeal tuneup he'd just done on an older woman's bike. He was so patient with the questions the woman and her husband asked about the bike, and he read off each of the charges on their bill. I was amazed at how inexpensive it was. A lot of the labor charges were just $2. After I got my air, I stuck around and chatted with the work guy for a while. He was super friendly. Walked in to purchase a lock .Stood there for 10 minutes. I was never even acknowledged. Not a nod, a hello, or a "can i help you?" Several people walked in after me that spoke Spanish and were greeted then promptly taken care of in front of me. I have been lucky to know the people here and I dont speak spanish , some people here put rude without even knowing the guys who really work here , Carmen and Jali are real nice folks who work so hard for their families. They have fixed all the bikes which i brought to them at the most reasonable price you can find anywhere. Its true you may not expect the best A personality you may find at other bike shops but they are not in any way rude. Busy could be the word and patience is needed from you as a customer. The place is pretty cool, and the lady who was in charge when I went in seemed to really know what she was talking about. It was pretty late in the day (like 6pm) so she told me to come back tomorrow morning and it would be ready. But my schedule was messed up, so I went back 2 days later instead. They hadn't looked at my bike yet. It was in the middle of a big stack of bikes (yeah, stacked on its side). They didn't know what was wrong with it or when it would be ready. So I was bike-less for 2 days for nothing--ended up just taking it back and getting it fixed somewhere else. This is kind of a long story, so here goes. The back wheel was stolen off my Fuji Palisade. Two days later, a friend needed a front wheel so I gave them mine since my bike was no longer functional. I was very sad, because this bike was my baby, I just loved it. Since I rely heavily on my bike to get to work, I ended up buying a bike off craigslist because it happened to be cheaper than buying a wheel set from any of the shops in the city (none of the other shops I called offered used wheel sets). The second bike I bought ended up being slightly too small for me and the gears were a little wonky. I brought it and my wheel-less bike to Mexibike to ask if I could trade the functioning bike for a used wheel set. I knew it was a far-fetched deal but thought I would give it a shot. Fortunately, the salesperson agreed to the trade! I came back the next day to see my beloved Fuji Palisade fully functional again. He even replaced one of the brakes that fell off during the theft. I asked what I owed him for the service and he said that it was an even trade and I didn't owe anything. He and (I'm assuming) his wife were so sweet and accommodating through the whole experience so I gave them $40 as a thank you. I will definitely be back if I need anything! It takes a lot for a place to get me to log into my Yelp account and leave a review, but this place deserves it. The shop and staff are wonderful, and I am so glad I discovered it. I am one of those people that decided to buy a bike, knowing nothing about bikes, off of Craigslist. I was sure I would have a few issues, but the bike was so cheap, I figured I could solve them as I went. Turns out more was wrong than expected, and every other bike shop wanted at least $50 for a tune-up alone. I brought my bike here, and they were great. For $70, I got a new chain, new tire, blinking head and tail lights, AND a full tune-up. This is for parts and labor, which is crazy. Plus they were incredibly nice and accommodating. I had a minor brake repair, and they were very fast and cheap. Some of the guys are not very good at speaking English, but they seem to know what they're doing, and the guy was very courteous. I don't know anything about their bike sales, though -- it looks as if they have a good number of used bikes, and not a lot of new models (my guess is their clientele is mostly the Mexican residents who might not be able to afford a top-of-the-line Fuji or Cannondale). okay, so i have a trek 08' road bike but i also have a "vintage" amf bike that i refuse to get rid of, despite the ominous squeaking sound coming from the frame or even after the left pedal flew off into traffic a few weeks ago. i live near the italian market so i've seen the mexibike shop plenty of times. i decided to take my amf bike there to not only get new pedals but to fix the breaks and the flat that the front tire was sporting. i get there and a little brown guy the size of a small totem was at the back of the shop working on a bike. he spoke little english and i even less spanish but we managed to understand each other enough to get my bike squared away. i left the bike and took a quick trip to whole foods. twenty minutes later i returned to shop and the front tire was inflated, the breaks fixed and stabilized, and the new pedals were attached. It felt like he did more than what we spoke about because the bike road like a dream, i no longer felt like i was constantly riding up a very steep hill. i paid the 30 dollars...yeah, you heard me, 30 dollars and threw in a five dollar tip...i know only five dollars!...in my defense it was all i had left after visiting wholepaycheck...but i digress...go and see the little totem man for your bike issues...he's an absolute gem. read more
