I just called about serving an e-bike and he kept talking about parts and I kept trying to say I just need a battery recharge and it they can get it then I need just to buy a new battery. Lol the shop owner wouldn't even let me talk - told me to call another shop as I was trying to tell him I already call them and he just kept talking over me. Doesn't matter if you can service the bike I have I wouldn't bring a bicycle to this shop if the owner can't bother to listen to someone speak--- sooo rudeee. read more

I was traveling from out of town with a small group of people, using a vehicle that we had just recently installed a roof rack for storing a bicycle that we were transporting. Unfortunately, the bike had been really overtightened to the roof rack and so we could not remove it from the roof, even while using wrenches and pliers; this only chipped paint on a plastic knob that was on the rack. I was able to find Tune-up bike shop, as is the current business occupying 611 N 2nd in Philly and my father and I went there. When we got there, the lights were a bit dim, but I saw several welcoming signs. Upon getting inside, I spoke with a lady at the front desk, but she had to take a quick phone call. My father and I then were then attended to by a man who looked at the rack and told us that he would get someone with more expertise dealing with ceiling racks. The owner of the shop then came out and was very helpful in trying to get the rack unstuck. Ultimately though, it took the manager of the location to get the rack off, much to the appreciation of my father and I. The rack had had us very confused, as we did not use the cam lock properly and had instead overtightened it. Fortunately, the bike shop had provided several sets of hands to all provide help to us out-of-towners. When we went back in, the first man to help us put the front wheel of the bike back on, as the front wheel had to be taken off to use the tire rack. He then pumped up the tires and after a much-deserved tip, we were on our way. Throughout the process, everyone we spoke to was very courteous, polite and wanted to help, including the owner and manager, who both ended up being the most experienced with tire racks. It was a great experience and if I ever find myself with another bike problem in Philadelphia, I will certainly know where to go! *I am unaware if Tune-up bike shop is simply a rebrand of Trophy Bikes or if Trophy Bikes closed and Tune-up bike shop took its place during the pandemic. read more

I was able to make an appointment online, and they had an idea of what I was looking for when I arrived. They let me take the one I was interested in for a spin around the block, which was delightful! I loved riding home, and now I love riding around the city, because Philly is beautiful. After getting my first flat inner tube in 4 months of riding in the city: I headed to Trophy Bikes. I got it repaired and went on my way. It popped again, two weeks later, this past Friday- I blamed it on Philly streets and bad luck. I went this past Monday and got it changed (oh and the guy who changed it made me feel like i was a bother- i saw that he was working on a better bike in the side shop)- and it popped on TUESDAY. I went in YESTERDAY got it "fixed" and partially tuned (they did replace it for free this time lol). Just an hour ago I was riding my route back from work and not only did my tube pop but my tire came off the rim. SO SO SO disappointed and at a loss of words. Never goin' back read more

I came here because I have an old, heavy, steel bike and I want to upgrade to something lightweight. I was at first helped by a young red headed man who was fine. He showed me one bike, and when I asked if he had it in a different color, he pulled down another bike that was pretty, but heavier, and I said I wasn't interested in a bike as heavy as that. That's when the older man who had been hanging out behind the counter came over, and when everything went downhill. The man began by explaining to me that the green bike was only heavy because it had fenders and a rack, which, ok, but you're selling it with fenders and a rack. He then launched into a speech beginning "I know I have to explain this to women because I have sisters" and he proceeded to tell me, in detail, how to carry a bicycle up a flight of stairs. (I'm sure his sisters love his "let me tell you how to perform basic tasks" spiel. He's probably a real hit at Thanksgiving) He declared that if I knew how to carry it the right way, incidentally the way I already do, it would make the bicycle "actually lighter". He finished up by telling me that having a lighter bike doesn't really make a difference, and he declared that wanting a lighter bicycle is a "psychological problem". Then he smiled, smugly. During this entire jaw-dropping monologue, I tried to tell him that I have a heavy bike and I know how it feels to have one, that I have test-ridden lighter bikes and know from experience that it makes a difference in effort and acceleration, and that I know how to carry a bike. I did not try to correct him about his claim to be able to magically make bicycles lighter than they are, because, really, how can anyone react to that? But I could only get in one word at a time before he interrupted me to continue to shower me with his...um...wisdom. When he finally stopped talking, I just walked out. I don't need to be condescended to, lied to, interrupted, or told I have a psychological problem for having a perfectly reasonable request for a lighter bicycle. I would never go here again, and I would certainly not recommend it to anyone. read more

I've been a cyclist and bike industry executive for years. My company ships over 400 bikes a month directly to customers. I found myself in a pinch in PA and needed to ship a new demo bike to a friend. I found these guys online and was stoked to see that they offered shipping services. Shipping for $70, just for packing which is pretty steep for PA. Keep in mind these guys get bikes shipped to them daily, so they have all the supplies on hand to easily pack a bike for free. And it takes at most an hour, so probably $18 in labor. They packed the bike in the wrong size box, costing me $150 to ship a bike that usually costs $100 to ship. Again, not a huge deal cause I gotta ship this bike. The real problem is: The bike shows up to my friend destroyed, with completely broken fenders and spokes. Again, I ship over 400 bikes a month so I'm able to tell the Trophy guys that based on the photos I can see that poor packaging resulted in the bike being damaged. I send them detailed photos. They claim its a FedEx issue and "Good thing you insured it." Finally I just asked them to reimburse me the $70 they charged for packing the bike. Nope. Horrible guys. Their reputation isn't worth $70 to them. Unbelievable. read more

The bike mechanics at this shop are 100% incompetent. I took my bike here yesterday after getting a flat at around 6:30, and tech #1 put it on the stand right away. "Great," I thought, "It's awesome that they're able to take care of it right away." Now, granted my bike isn't as simple as a single gear, or probably even most bikes with derailleurs. It's a rebuild that was professionally done in Austin, TX, with a Nexus 7 speed hub and a roller brake, both of which have cables that have to be disconnected. But, if you work on bikes, it seems like you should be able to work on all bikes, right? So, tech #1 couldn't figure out how to get all the pieces back together after he put the wheel back on. He blamed this on it being feebly assembled in the first place, and told me they'd give me a call in the morning. They called me around 9:30, and said they had it back together. It's been raining all day today, so I went and got it just now. As I rode if away from the shop, I noticed that (A) it wasn't shifting right and (B) the rear brake was way looser than it was before I brought it in. I took it back inside and proceeded to tell tech #2 about the problems (#1 wasn't there today). He said he'd take a look at it and put it back on the stand. After working on it for about 10 minutes, he showed me what tech #1 (or whoever put it back together this morning) had done wrong, and took it for a test ride, assuring me that everything was back how it should be. He did fix the rear brake, but the shifting is still royally messed up. It has seven speeds, and it will only, very unreliably, shift through the first five. But I wasn't about to bring it in a THIRD time. It was working flawlessly before I took it to these clowns, as was the brake. I've had this bike worked on here in town at a reputable shop and they've never had an issue with it. I've also had it worked on in Brooklyn and in Austin at places that actually know what they're doing. No one's ever botched it like these guys did. I'm not sure what I'll do now, as I don't really want/know how to fix it myself, but do yourself a favor. Don't come here with your small (or big) bike issues. They'll only make them worse. read more

I lived in Northern Liberties for years and frequented this place all the time, but I never ever thought of it as my friendly local bike shop. I've been ignored at this place when there was only one other customer in it. I've been ignored at this place when I was the ONLY customer in it. Sometimes it's because staff members' friends have stopped by to chat about whose band is playing a show in a week, and for the moment they can't be bothered with customers -- other times the personal friends aren't even there, I'm literally the ONLY non-staff person in the shop and they still can't be bothered to assist me. I know that the staff members knew my name because they knew what to fill out on my service slips when I came in to drop my bike off for the lengthier repairs. But they never addressed me by my name, or in fact ever addressed me at all. Once, I got hit by a car and came into the shop a few days later with a new bike, and chipped front teeth, and road burn on my face. No one seemed to notice. ...Attitude aside, I would not recommend going here unless you ride a bike manufactured in more recent years (and if it's a fixie, even better), because that seems to be their area of expertise. When I lived in Philly, I got around town on a vintage road bike whose idiosyncracies were lost on the staff most of the time. Simple jobs didn't present a problem, but the more involved repairs and replacements took longer than expected and required some trial and error. And the prices reflect their "gentrifier" vibe quite appropriately. Three stars because I'm generous. read more

Trophy Bike Garage is possibly the only bike shop open on Sundays in Philadelphia. It is mind-boggling, but true. They also do repairs super-quickly for clueless riders like myself, who have negative interest in learning how to change their own tubes and tires when one explodes. I wheeled my sad, flat-footed bike into Trophy one afternoon when such a disaster struck me while riding under the El, and the super-friendly mechanic who was on the job got on the job of replacing the tube right away. I dealt with one staff person, who was friendly. I am shopping for a folding bike. They sell Brompton exclusively, which is WAY ABOVE my price point... they average in the ballpark of $1200-1500+. So, it kind of stinks that they don't carry other brands, but they were very passionate about Brompton and the specifications and upgrades. Fun fact: they let you test ride the bikes. You let them hold your license and something else (credit card?) and they give you a helmet and an hour or so to check it out! read more

Don't have a problem acknowledging your existence. b.) Are knowledgeable and willing to give you a helping hand even if it isn't extremely profitable. and c.) Do not carry that "I am more awesome than thou" attitude. This, in and of itself, is what sells me on this place. As far as bikes and parts, it's a little bit much and their bike selection would be super great if they had used bikes but I will always go there knowing that they will sell me with service. These people are super nice, super friendly, and are there for you in a pinch. About a week ago my chain literally snapped while I was at 3rd & Girard on my way to the Piazza and I was stoked to remember that Trophy was right there and only a few block from where I needed to be. I usually take my bikes to Brian @ Bicycle Revolutions for work but have never heard anything bad about Trophy so I saw no harm in committing bike adultery this one time. I was stoked to find out that I didn't bust anything else and was able to get a new chain put on and the rear checked out for under $20. Not bad considering it WAS an emergency and I was without tools! The guys there had some flyers for a bike polo event that Saturday so we headed back up that weekend for some beer, food and prizes. Thirty bucks for two people - all for charity - and I walked away with some swag at the end of the night. It was a great crowd and a good time. Thanks to all the guys @ Trophy. read more

I'd never been before, so it took me walking past it twice to realize where the place was, but I was met with friendliness, helpful suggestions and nice conversation while I waited for my flat to be replaced. I walked in to an empty shop (no other customers), but within a minute about 7 other people decided it was time to stop in as well (clearly I am a trendsetter) so my bike sat neglected for a while, but I kept having apologies thrown my way about every 10 seconds. It really didn't take too much time at all for the flat to be repaired and I was very happy with the bike maintenance advise I got. Will absolutely patronize again. read more

I'm am so thrilled that TBG moved EVEN CLOSER to my house. Yes!!!! I like their new location on 2nd street, due to proximity (of course) but also the new shop is more spacious and comfortable to hang out in. I have an old vintage bike that occasionally needs parts and service. TBG is my go to spot. They always have what I need, are very knowledgeable, and don't look down on me because I walk in NOT wearing a messenger bag with one leg of my pants rolled up. They are extremely helpful and friendly. I never feel talked down to and I never feel ripped off. Their hours are very convenient as well. read more

My friend and I came in yesterday for a new tube for my back tire and air in her tires. They told us we could go ahead and leave the bikes while they got worked on, so we went to chill in the Piazza and grab a smoothie. We came back approx 30 minutes later to find out I instead needed a whole new tire so they went ahead and took care of it for me. Because they realized that they had forgotten to get my cell number to call and let me know beforehand that they were going to replace the whole tire and thus charge me more than what I was originally quoted, they were nice enough to only charge me for what we had discussed and the tire and not the installation fee. I must say, service is impeccable--the guys that work there are always very friendly and willing to help out in any way they can. TBG is STILL top notch in my book. read more

I've been a Trophy customer since buying my Brompton in 2009. Sad it took me until now to endorse Mike (the owner) and his team for the great business they operate. I stopped in tonight to pick up a seat post that I ordered and it was an easy transaction. He shared some tips for how to get situated with my new post (since I was installing myself) and gave me a couple suggestions for how to make my ride a little more comfortable. Seems like the crew has turned over a bit since merging two shops into one and all over the last couple years. I live near the shop, so I always bring my bike in when need be. The guys are always nice and down-to earth, never intimidating to talk to, even if you know little to nothing about bikes. I bought a stem for my handlebars from them a while back, which cracked completely after a few months of commuting. When I took it back and explained the situation, the owner apologized immediately. Despite having other bikes waiting to be worked on before mine, he very quickly found a new stem, repaired my ride, and gave me a sweet discount. Thank goodness for this place!! Besides commuting about a mile and a half on my cruiser to work every day, I know next to nothing about bikes. So, when the tire of my Schwinn Breeze popped and the other couldn't hold air for more than a few days I was in a panic. I passed Trophy Bikes on my way into work every day and finally got around to bringing my bike. The guy working there was prompt to diagnose my bike issue and give me an estimate of about how much it would cost BEFORE he started working on my bike. I like a place that is honest and upfront rather than a place that fixes my bike first then charges me as much as they want since they already did the work. I left my bike in their hands for about an hour, came back, paid, and rode my bike home happily ever after. read more

By informal, I mean lax...the vibe is like you are coming over to your friend's house who happens to be great with bikes, you drop it off, don't have to say much, and you come back within an hour to grab your fixed bike and barely have to pay much to get it. My bike got three flats this past week. At the advice of some friends, I dragged it in here early on Saturday morning to get the wheels checked out. Turns out the flats were probably just a coincidence, but I had a great experience here. Trey was awesome. He immediately checked out my bike, and then talked to me about the options for preventing more flats in this lovely glass-strewn city. He wasn't even the slightest bit condescending about anything, absolutely didn't try to upsell any of the tires, and actually seemed slightly surprised when I immediately said "Yup. I want those." to the most expensive nearly bomb-proof ones. I haaaaate getting flats. He also helped me out with my brakes and gave me a really fair, detailed estimate on some other things I asked him about. The guys who work here all seem really down to earth and honest. The prices are really fair, for both new bikes and repairs. They're super quick, too. I will definitely be back, because everything about this place is great. read more

I almost never write reviews on Yelp, but for Trophy Bike Garage I'll break my internet silence. Certain types of businesses have an air of mystery or cloistured demeanor that can be off putting for an outsider. Tattoo Shops and Bike garages spring to mind. Go to even a chain like Performance Bicycle, and the people who work there act like you have walked into their kingdom, warrior monks who shall deign to repair your bike. At Trophy, this was not my experience at all. Quite the opposite, in fact. I came in with a very clear idea of what I wanted (a jamis commuter bike) and they obliged, not trying to upsell, and being pleasant the entire time. There were some hiccups in the system while actually making the purchase, but I gotta cut the shop some slack, they moved from Liberties Walk to their current location less than a week ago. Shit happens, and waiting five minutes while the guy massages the sales system aint no thing to get upset about. So the takeaways: Trophy Bikes has a quality selection, decent prices, and a pleasant demeanor while giving you advice. I dig it, and will definitely be going back. read more

Bought a bike from these guys a few weeks ago and I can't recommend them enough. Mike was extremely helpful and knowledgeable.He answered all my questions and did not try to up-sell me at all. In fact, I left the store having spent much less than I had anticipated. How often does that happen? I got a great bike at a great price. Also, if you buy a bike from them, they do a couple tune-ups for free (one after 5 rides, one after 20, I believe) That ensures that your bike is properly set up for you after you have ridden it for a while. My first experience using this shop was unpleasant, but my second experience was so bad that it actually inclined me to make an account with yelp to share my story... I had originally gone there because it is super close to where I work and I needed to put some air in my tires. I planned on eventually installing a new drive train on my single speed fixed gear bike. I explained this to them and after speaking to them for a while, I decided to special order some parts to eventually be installed. (rear cog & rear tire) I already had ordered the crankset, bottom bracket and chain. 1. When they called me to tell me the parts came in I went in just to get the tire and had them put it on because I was in a rush. I also had them put on a new tube because there was a slow leak. The tire itself was quoted at $32. After the tube and labor fee I ended up paying $57! I ignored this insane overcharge because like I said, I was in a rush. When I was two blocks in on my ride, my brand new tub exploded and I had to walk 25 blocks home because the shop had already closed. When I went back to the store, the owner was there and he tried to keep my service fee! I was blown away. I told him to give me he money back and I would fix it myself. I also told him I had a fair amount of work I was planning to have them do for me. Eventually he refunded me the service but still charged me for the tube (even though he shouldn't have after what I went through). Also he told me they don't up-charge special orders so he did refund me that as well. 2. While I was there I asked the to quote me on a drive train install (bottom bracket, crankset, chain, and cog). I figured I may as well since they still had my cog. They told me it would be $68 witch immediately sounded high. After doing a little research I found this sort of labor on a fixie (simplest bike) usually runs $40-$50. I went back to the shop a different guy was there. I told him I would like to pick up my cog. I also told him that I would've had them to the install but $68 was far too expensive and that another shop had quoted me at $40-$50. He ran the numbers again and told me that it would be more like $55. I asked if he could do it for $50 to which he declined but he did say they could do it in a few hours so I gave it to them even though I still felt like I was being ripped off. The same guy called me to tell me that my crank was stuck and they wouldn't be able to preserve it. I was a little upset but understanding. About an hour later, he called me again to tell me my bike was ready. He also told me that he misquoted me and that the original quote I was given was correct. I told him if i had known that I would've went somewhere else and that paying an additional $23 was unacceptable. He put the manager on (the same guy who gave me the original quote who said that I needed to pay the $68 and that they don't price match to which I replied "I'm not asking for a price match, I'm asking you to honor the quote I dropped it off for." Eventually he caved but seamed mad at me about the whole situation as if it were my fault. When I went to get the bike I apologized for the misunderstanding but i truly would've gone somewhere else if I was aware that it would be $68. The manager came out and said it definitely would've have been more because of the difficulty with the crank arm so I gave him a $5 and was on my way. All in all people make mistakes but they should be rectified. The only two encounters I've had with this place have been terrible. I gave them a second chance and they still managed to make me feel used. It seems to me things here are already expensive and the people working there try to take advantage. I will not go back unless an action is taken to rectify my experience, but until then I highly suggest that it is worth going a mile or two out of your way to go somewhere that you will be treated properly. I took my bike to Trophy Bikes and was completely blind sided with ridiculousness! When I walked in, the only non-employee seemed to be a personal friend of the guy behind the counter. That didnt stop them from waiting awhile to finally greet me. Not very professional. After telling the "consultant" the story of the bike (free to me, practically new but lightly crashed) and what my budget was (no more than $150), she began to tell me how everything on the bike was bent or destroyed, including the frame! The frame didnt have a scratch on it! She concluded that it would be cheaper for me to buy a brand new Jamis fixie from them for $400, since they were on sale! I dont even like fixies! I entertained her for a couple more minutes, while telling her what a few of my past bikes were (Trek, Gary Fisher, GT, Diamond Back, Dyno, and Fuji) and my decades of experience, to see if she would realize that the bs wont fly and just give me an estimate. She continued to tell me I should put the bike on ebay or craigslist so I could put the money earned towards buying a new bike from them! Uhh, NEGATIVE!
