Love this shop. Personally speaking, it's the best bike shop in the country. Curt will take care of you.

I got a front flat yesterday on a ride. I was extremely bummed. I really needed to ride my bike…read more(cue Queen). Fairmount Bicycle was the closest bike shop. I called to make sure they were open and could help, and someone answered the phone right away and was very kind and helpful. I walked my bike to the shop, and when I entered, I was greeted warmly and professionally. I disclosed that I really needed to ride my bike, and they understood and told me that they would try to salvage my ride. Thirty minutes later, my bike was ready, and they were once again very kind and helpful with the checkout process. And, they did in fact salvage my ride, for which I am so grateful. During the checkout process, another person with a flat came in. The staff was warm and professional toward this person. I heard someone mention a "community repair." I did not know what that was, but later, I looked up their website and learned more about the community repair fund as well as the ethos and history of the shop. What I read confirmed that these are cool humans doing cool things and supporting their community. I do not live in Fairmount, but because of my experience yesterday, I would definitely consider taking my bike there again. To the humans of Fairmount Bicycle, thank you so much! And, Happy Pride!

I rented to bikes from Jeff last weekend and I did so for two reasons…read more A) closest bike shop to downtown that I could find on yelp B) lowest 24 hour rental rate, just under $1.00/hour We spent $54.00 for two bikes for 24 hours with tax, the next closest shop wanted to charge almost $50 per bike for 24 hours, so this was the clear choice. He gave us two cruisers that had the nice padded butt seats, which were great for long term riding. Yes this place is kind hard to find because it is hidden under a large building and in the basement and yes the owner is a bit quirky and opinionated, however he came across like an average Philly guy to me. He loses one star for the pain in the ass it is to get the bikes out of his little door-way and up the narrow staircase to the street. The same one star lost is also for the low bridge in the store, I had to duck to make sure I did not hit my head. The other star is gone because I think he could do a bit better job of keeping his store clean and less cluttered. I do not know anything about his retail prices on bikes and hardware, nor do I know anything about the quality of the bikes he builds; this review is mainly on the owner and the rental experience. After all said and done, I enjoyed my experience in the store and Jeff was very nice to us and even gave us several suggestions of places to bike to and eat at. He did a great job adjusting our bikes to fit us without us asking, which I thought was nice. I would rent from him again!

I was traveling from out of town with a small group of people, using a vehicle that we had just…read morerecently installed a roof rack for storing a bicycle that we were transporting. Unfortunately, the bike had been really overtightened to the roof rack and so we could not remove it from the roof, even while using wrenches and pliers; this only chipped paint on a plastic knob that was on the rack. I was able to find Tune-up bike shop, as is the current business occupying 611 N 2nd in Philly and my father and I went there. When we got there, the lights were a bit dim, but I saw several welcoming signs. Upon getting inside, I spoke with a lady at the front desk, but she had to take a quick phone call. My father and I then were then attended to by a man who looked at the rack and told us that he would get someone with more expertise dealing with ceiling racks. The owner of the shop then came out and was very helpful in trying to get the rack unstuck. Ultimately though, it took the manager of the location to get the rack off, much to the appreciation of my father and I. The rack had had us very confused, as we did not use the cam lock properly and had instead overtightened it. Fortunately, the bike shop had provided several sets of hands to all provide help to us out-of-towners. When we went back in, the first man to help us put the front wheel of the bike back on, as the front wheel had to be taken off to use the tire rack. He then pumped up the tires and after a much-deserved tip, we were on our way. Throughout the process, everyone we spoke to was very courteous, polite and wanted to help, including the owner and manager, who both ended up being the most experienced with tire racks. It was a great experience and if I ever find myself with another bike problem in Philadelphia, I will certainly know where to go! *I am unaware if Tune-up bike shop is simply a rebrand of Trophy Bikes or if Trophy Bikes closed and Tune-up bike shop took its place during the pandemic.
