A few days ago, I took my granddaughter's road bike in for repair. The front, left-hand shifter wouldn't shift from the big ring to the small and vice versa. I thought that maybe the shifter or front derailleur may have been bad. Johnathan took all of 5 seconds to diagnose and fix the problem. It seems that the cable from the shifter to the front derailleur was way too loose. I offered him money for his time and expertise, but he said it was "on the house for such an easy repair!" Johnathan is an expert mechanic and an all-around good guy! He did a similar repair about two years ago on a Cannondale mountain bike that I brought in. I'm pretty sure he didn't charge for that, either. From now on, Johnathan will be my go-to bike mechanic! I would happily give Havertown Bike Shop more stars if possible. They earned my trust and respect. read more

We love bikes! We love motorcycles more but when we want to be healthy we grab our bicycles and hit the trails! Havertown Bicycle is a great place for repairing all your bicycle needs and gear! They also sell amazing bicycles for children and adults! They have hybrid bikes, mountain bikes, beach bikes etc... John, the owner is extremely knowledgeable about his profession so if you have any questions please don't go anywhere else because he will help you! He is very helpful and friendly as one shop owner! The store is easily accessible and there is parking behind the store and in the lot across the street! They are right on the corner of Darby rd surrounded by some other pretty amazing shops and restaurants so you can go out to eat while shopping for your next mode of transportation! I was in town from Maine and needed assistance fixing the rear tire on my 10 year old's Razor scooter. The young boy who initially spoke to me said that technically he couldn't help me because they don't work on repairing (not replacing!) flats on small tires, but allowed me to use two Allen wrenches to take the hub apart to access the tube. The owner came out, said that he MINDED that I was doing that, and that it was an insurance issue--come on, people! For a simple fix like this (which I've done multiple times!), how does it become an insurance issue? The owner's tone was rude, so I promptly left. Sad that businesses, particularly bicycle repair businesses, can't just help people out. read more

[907] 4/26/2019 This local bike shop is located on busy Darby Road. I easily found parking on the street. It's a small shop with a large selection of bikes. I stopped in to pick up a repaired bike. The salesperson was a bit aggressive for my taste. I wanted to see a classic type of bike since the one I have now is too big for me (I told him this). The one he showed me was also big that I barely touched the floor with my tippy toes. He kept telling me it was fine but it's not and that's the way I want it and they are all that way. He took off the reflector and it was still too big. I told him I wanted to see a different bike but he walked up to the cash register to ring someone up. I went and paid for my repair. I thought was going to help me w/ the bike I showed him instead he went on to the next customer to sell them a bike. He didn't even say anything as I left. I ended up leaving and feeling ignored/slighted. I won't be back. read more

I went in to learn about bikes, having been off one for decades. I wasn't even sure what I'd need for both local riding and some easy (unpaved) trails. I figured someone would help me understand and then I'd get a good deal somewhere else. Enter Ethan. He couldn't have been more knowledgeable and experienced as a rider. In fact, we shared trail ideas as we went. For a little more than I'd have spent at Amazon, I had a far better bike that is precisely what I need (nothing more, nothing less.) The slight upward cost is offset by lifetime tune-ups and maintenance. Both Jon, the owner, and his other employee also joined in the conversation as we discussed bike topics like helmets, safety and "the old days." These are three very experienced people. I never felt pressured to buy and Ethan wasn't trying to "sell." He made sure I liked the bike and was ready before he even asked. Buying local has that one advantage: you get to test-ride the bike, ask all your questions, get solid answers, and they will take care of you every time you walk in. I visited this shop for the first time earlier in the week. I was really impressed. I brought in a used 90s mountain bike that I knew needed some work on the wheel (truing). Some shops would scoff at an old non-disc brake mountain bike, but the owner didn't bat an eye. I had noticed my bike's shifting felt off too. They pointed out that both wheels could probably use some truing, and noticed instantly that my derailleur was bent., which I had somehow overlooked. They gave me a quote for fixing these, and it was extremely reasonable. Shockingly to me, they went about working right away, and they repaired the bike quickly and efficiently. I don't live in the area and my local bike shop where I live would take all afternoon or an extra day, and would be a bunch of money. Havertown Bicycle Shop provided faster and much more cost-effective service. The owner knew the bike model well, saying he had been a dealer in that bike in the 90s when it came out, and was able to even identify where it was made. Without even my having to ask, the chain was nicely lubed, the shifting was smooth, the wheels were perfectly trued. All this for the cost of two meals at a restaurant. Incredible. Later that day I went for a long mountain bike ride, and the next day as well. I'm really happy with the service and would definitely return. read more

We have been buying our bikes at Havertown bicycle. We have have always had good customer service. When you purchase a bike all of your service is free. The downside is that the owner smokes and the shop smells like an ashtray. My son and I wouldn't go anywhere else for our biking needs. read more

There are places where "buy local" means more. H-Town Bikes is one of those places. No one will ever get rich running a local bike shop. It's a fact. You'll probably make a decent living, for sure. Daddy Warbucks - no. People who own local bike shops love bikes. It's that simple. At H-Town, that comes through clearly. The shop is small but not tiny, with a selection of bikes from kids to pro biker types. The selection isn't broad but it covers all the bases, and the price for adult bikes ranges from $250-$1500. You will not find the $99 K-Mart bike here. The bikes are also a higher quality. They also service bikes, and we've had ours repaired/rebuilt a number of times. The staff are congenial and knowledge, not pushy but attentive. They will not say anything to sell a bike, nor will they look down their nose at you if you're not a "pro". This is a "good people, good product, good service" Place and one I am happy to have in our community. read more

If I could give this business 0 stars I would. I walked into the store. The proprietor seemed unfazed that I, Ms Customer, walked into the store. He only said, " Can I help you" when I walked to the backend of the store where he sat and spoke to him. At that point he says to me,"I have no bikes to sell". I looked bewildered because the store was totally filled with bikes with price tags on them. Stuned I said," you have no bikes." He gives me some lame story about not having anything since June 2020. OKAYYYY. I'm going to call it as I see it RACISM. He has a store fully stocked with inventory no bikes had a sold sign on them. He is white I'm black. No worries I will keep my good money and take my business somewhere where the color of my skin doesn't matter as long as my money is green. read more

If you want to buy local, buy somewhere else. After listening to the owner tell the young mom and her child in front of me that he was too busy and just wanted to "close up shop" he used the exact same sentence with me. Their voicemail says bring service issues by for them to look at before 4pm (I arrived at 11:50am). Small issues can be resolved quickly (the gentleman leaving the store when I arrived was serviced while he waited) and more serious issues would need to be left for longer. The owner took a very serious and negative tone when he told me to "go away for a month." He went on to explain that they were very backed up on service. There are a lot of small businesses scraping to get by right now. Spend your hard earned somewhere else. read more

I went into the shop for the first time for a bike repair. I have to agree with some previous posts. An older gentlemen was abrupt and outright rude. It took all of my patience not to respond to his unprofessionalism. Instead, at the first opportunity I exited left and went to Cadence which I have wonderful experiences with and all the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. I just thought I would try my local shop. I'm glad I did. I will never go back. Now I know. It wasn't about the cost of the repairs. It was about how my son and I were verbally treated. It was a teaching moment for he and I. Treat people the way you would want to be treated. I have a good thing at Cadence. It's about 20 minutes away but it is a world of difference. The bike is being repaired as well as a routine maintenance and safety check. read more

We go to the bike shop when I need repairs for my jogging stroller. They have always been very nice. They will put air in the tires for free without having to buy anything. If you but training wheels or bike accessories for a fee they will install the parts in the shop also. Also have good hours as they're open everyday. read more

I went to buy my Marin bike here as it was local and there are not too many Marin dealers in the area. I'm glad I made this choice. Experience was very good. Jon is very knowledgeable, had me on a "test drive" within a few minutes and handled the sale efficiently. The bike was ready on time for pickup, final fitting adjustments were made immediately and out I rode. A minor problem with a very slow tire leak was fixed on the spot a few weeks later, no charge, just courtesy / responsiveness. It is great to have a shop like this in the area. read more

After checking their Web site to make sure they were open on Sundays, I stopped by to pick up my fixed bike to only find out that they are closed Sundays. When I went back the following week to pick it up, I told Jonathan, the owner, about the misprint on the Web site & he was very rude & said they're only open Sundays in the spring. He never apologized or tried to smooth it over. The place is too expensive & the owner was abrupt. Definitely try a different bike shop! read more

Definitely worth visiting if you are in the market for a new bike or even if you want to have your old bike serviced. I bought a bicycle for my daughter there a couple of years ago. It was a little more expensive than going to a chain store, but the quality far exceeded what you would get elsewhere. Additionally, he offers free tuneups on every bike bought there. read more
