The price was about $425 less than the Specialized website (considering their free shipping) and what a local store wanted. However, they were very helpful and even though they did not have the bike in stock, they ordered from specialized and shipped to me. The pros at Cycle Sport have been helping keep my aging mountain bike in operation for more than a dozen years. I appreciate they are close by, on my last two visits - once last fall again yesterday - I have had to turn to them to fixed new damages. Last fall, it a new sprocket when a car backed into my bike. I drove straight to the shop and they fixed it right away. Same thing again when I discovered a badly bent rear wheel while on the Chester Valley Trail. I had to remove the rear brakes to avoid the severe resistance I was experiencing. First, I was fortunate that Cycle Sport, as a bicycle repair shop, is allowed to stay open in Pennsylvania under our Governor's broad and sweeping edict to shut down nearly all but "life sustaining" businesses, albeit with severely reduced hours. I drove it in the next time they were open, and again they repaired it on the spot. Like a lot of small businesses in our area, they are struggling for business these days (they're only open 2-3 days a week for 3-4 hours at a time. I hope anyone in SE PA will seriously consider this shop, especially now, for all their biking needs. read more

I have been here twice. Both times for spin shoes. Once for spin shoes to be used at a gym and the next time for spin shoes to be used on a peloton (because OF COURSE they require different shoes). It's always nice to support a local business. The first time an older gentleman that I believe was the owner, helped me. He was very kind and helpful. The second time a younger guy helped me. Also, kind and helpful. I felt that they gave me real advice that would help me make a decision without trying upsell me for any reason. Both times I just trusted them to choose shoes for me because I had no idea what was best in regards to what I was looking for. I told them what I needed, told them my size and they grabbed a pair. I tried them on and I purchased the first pair handed to me. They were both expensive but are built to last. I didn't know enough to compare them to other shoes on the wall so I guess they could have upsold me but I didn't get that vibe. Also, I looked online ahead of going to the store and the prices were pretty comparable...it wasn't a crazy price difference. I wanted help from a real person so I would know that I was getting a high quality shoe that would improve my performance and wouldn't eff up my knees. Originally I had gotten shoes from REI and they were not the right shoes. My knees were hurting and my feet were going numb. That definitely shouldn't be happening and it hasn't happened with either pair of shoes from Cycle Sport so the knowledge of their employees is definitely at a higher level and the outcome was much better than my REI experience. They quickly and easily installed the appropriate cleats for me so I didn't have to worry about whether or not I was getting the correct ones or if I had them on right. I know there are plenty of people out there that would be able to do this on their own but there are also plenty of us that are inexperienced and having a professional do it is preferred. My original spin shoes were used almost daily for a year and a half. They were well worth it. They made a huge difference, were comfortable and look like I've barely worn them so they will work well for years! I don't anticipate the second pair being any different. They are also comfortable, good quality and durable. I was told they were worth the investment by the employees and my spin instructors and I agree so if you are thinking about it...do it! In addition to the shoes upstairs they have plenty of other bicycles and equipment at your disposal. I am not out there cycling on the road but for anyone that is, I think this store will meet all of your needs. I believe they also do maitenance as well. Overall, this store met my needs and provided a good customer service experience and a high quality product. I returned a second time because I was pleased with my first experience and I would happily return again and recommend them to others that have any cycling needs. read more

I stopped back into this bike shop three days after I had initially stopped in for info and prices... The staff helped me pick out a bike that would fit my son's rough riding habits... He was nothing short ofexcited about recieving his new bike... I took it back for it's 90 day tuneup, and the staff there was just as nice and helpful as they were prior to the sale... I was really surprised to find this outstanding place in the anti-cycling sprawl of suburban Philadelphia, where sidewalks don't exist, pedestrians have to watch for their lives, everyone speeds, and the exhaust fumes from gas-guzzling SUVs perfume the air. Perhaps due to the proximity of progressive Swarthmore, but this place has everything that one would find at a Performance or much larger store. The locale tends to feature Schwinn products and a large sign outside of the store makes it evident, but inside they have a little of everything. Clothes, gloves, accessories, helmets, bicycles, locks, lights, in short, everything for an avid cyclist. Moreover, the staff is extremely friendly and eager to please. I went in there looking for conversion pedals that would suit both clip and clipless pedals. Not many places would even think of having it but they did. Impressive. Then I wanted collapsable cages. They had that too. Damn they have their act together. A thoroughly good experience. read more

I have been using Cycle Sport for all my cycling needs. Each spring I have my bike tuned up, lubed, and any cables/components replaced. They are very knowledgeable, comprehensive, and professional and provide great service. I commute between Wallingford and University City, and will bring bike back to then vs using somewhere in between. Also, we ought a bike for our son, and they helped fit him with a great (entry Cannondale) that was not a stretch on our pocketbook. I had ghly recommend these folks. read more

These guys are great. I'm a woman in her 30s and I don't look like a hard-core biker. I've had a rough time taking my bike to bike shops in the area and being treated poorly by the staff. Not so at Cycle Sports. No matter the problem, the guys are always professional and courteous. I had a rough time replacing the tube to my new, reinforced tires. The Cycle Sport repair guy took the time to explain the technique for dealing with the tougher tire and replaced my tube in short order. These guys are great. Good experience. Good service. Nice store. Big selection. I was surprised at the quantity of bikes they had on display. It is jammed full of bicycles! I brought my 38 year old beat-up Schwinn in for repairs. It needed new tires, tubes, brake pads, and just a going over to make sure it would be safe to ride. I received attentive service while being helped with the purchase of a helmet. Three mechanics were hard at work during my visit. The guy assisting me put my bike on a stand and did a quick examination. I got the impression these are real experts when it comes to bicycle mechanical things. They were handling bikes like they had fixed thousands of them before. He tallied up the costs to make the bike right, and said it was their policy to get payment in advance. (Credit cards are accepted.) I was given a claim ticket and a receipt with an expected completion date. (They actually finished the work 2 days early.) This is a nice store. It appears they have an excellent selection. Parking is very limited. You might need to park elsewhere and walk over. read more

Cycle Sport is an excellent shop. The staff is very knowledgeable and they carry a lot of good brands such as Cannondale, Specialized, and Cervelo. The owner is actually a master frame builder too, who is well known throughout the industry for his designs. I stopped by here in jam a few minutes before the local group ride, and these guys got me back up in running with enough time to join the Thursday night ride. read more

let's get something out in the open... i'm a spinner. i'm not a cyclist; i'm not an outdoor biker of any kind. but put me on a stationary spin cycle in a class at the gym and i will spin my little legs off and love every second of it. spin wasn't always this much fun for me, until i ponied up and bought the shoes for it. much like outdoor bikes, the ones in class come equipped with SPD pedals that you can clip into rather than strap your bulky sneaks into the foot harness (yeah, it feels as awkward as it sounds). on the advice of one of my instructors, i headed to media cycle sports to find myself some spin shoes. they don't have late hours, so i went on my lunch break (which is only 30 minutes, so i needed this to be fast!) when i entered the store, there were 2 employees - one working behind the register (who i later learned is the tune-up/repair specialist) and one on the floor (owner? manager?) who was helping another customer. without my even telling him i was in a bit of a rush, he came right over to assist me while the first customer pondered his bike purchase. while the selection wasn't massive, it was enough that i was able to try on about 6 different styles - and was informed of the pluses/minuses of each - before making my decision. prices ran the gamut from those on clearance ($30!) to high end ($150+) and i was neither upsold nor pressured to take the clearance pair off his hands. after choosing a mid-range priced pair that had the perfect fit + stylish design, the SPD clips (purchased separately) were fitted to the bottoms...and then we headed to the lower level of the store so i could test them out on an actual bike before purchasing (COOL!) he made sure the clips were placed correctly in proportion to my foot on the pedal and also gave me pointers on my seat and handlebar settings for future rides. and all this in about 30 minutes time! on my way out, the technician wished me happy riding which reminded me that i do in fact own a bike...which has been collecting dust in my garage for about 4 years now. i asked him if i could bring it in for a tune-up, or if it was even worth it. i forget how much he said the tune-up would be, but he said that if i brought my bike in, he would assess it free of charge first and let me know if my money was better spent on a new bike. that was january...and though i have yet to dig my bike out from a mess of cobwebs, if i do decide to take up outdoor cycling again, i will surely be back! read more

I brought my bike in for service and the staff working on the bikes made me feel like I was bothering them. The guy looking at my bike started mumbling something, I said I did not understand what he was talking about. Then, another guy working on a bike chimes in and says, "he will let you know after he looks at it". Pretty rude. I'd have understood if they politely said give us five minutes to diagnose the bike. Eventually, the guy looking at my bike changed his attitude a liitle bit after that, but, I won't be returning there, and glad it wasnt worth fixing, because it would've killed me to pay them for a service with such lousy customer treatment. read more

I have been using Cyclesport in Media now for the last ten years. I use them as my go to for repairs/upgrades to my two Mountain bikes my Road bike. I have also purchased two bikes from Cyclesport one for my wife and one for my son. Cyclesport's friendly and knowable staff is always ready to help and I have had nothing but a stellar experience bringing my bikes in for service, all the staff know me on a first name basis. Although we live in Philadelphia, we take my 1969 Schwinn Breeze bicycle to Cycle Sport because they provide excellent service for a fair price. Additionally, they treat women customers with respect. So far, I have had my bicycle in for the following: adjustment to the rear wheel when the rear mudguard was rubbing against it; new cables; and a new 3-speed shift mechanism. Each time, the staffers have explained things fully to us. They are courteous and polite. The last time, when the staffer replaced my shift mechanism, he came up with a plastic cover as well. We have been looking for a place like this for more than twenty years. My Schwinn was built to last and does, with the service we encounter here. I recommend it fully. read more

I took my road bike here for a tune- up and some new parts-- the owner instantly starting listing off numerous things that he thought I needed replaced, which sounded off to me based on how long I had the bike. Sure enough, I took the bike to two other shops neither of which thought those parts needed any work whatsoever (I didn't tell them about what cycle sports had said). I'm new to the area and needed a mechanic to remove my pedals that were wayyyy tight for my own tools to handle. I called ahead to ask if it would be okay to stop in, and they said no problem. I was the only person in the store, and the mechanic took about 20 seconds on each pedal and then said "That'll be 5 bucks." I couldn't tell if it was a joke or not, but sadly enough he was dead serious...joke's on him because I spend a lot of my hard-earned money on biking and will happily take my business elsewhere. read more

I took my fixed-gear bicycle, which I ( (much to my chagrin) purchased online about a year and a half ago, to Cycle Sport a couple days ago. A friend of mine at my college recommended going to the Bike Church in West Philly for what they said would be free repairs. I'm really happy I eschewed the Bike Church and rented a Zipcar for a couple hours to take my fixie to Cycle Sport -- the man and woman working the shop were super friendly and clearly very knowledgable about everything bicycle. At first I thought I was going to have to drop my bike off and come back, but after I requested that the owner do a sort of diagnostic lookover of my bike, he noticed a few glaring problems (all of which were very real) and made the repairs right in front of me. The owner of this shop knows his stuff, and speaks in a way that is authoritative without being pretentious (I've had much less favorable interactions with owners of other bike shops in Sacramento, CA, where I hail from). My bill totaled to about $85, but that's including a nice new seat, brake repair, adding a link to my chain and repairing the crankshaft, tire socket repair, seat replacement, and taking a critical look at the whole unit in general. Overall great experience. Left feeling relieved and satisfied. Would recommend this shop to anyone in need of something bicycle related. read more

I stumbled across this place by accident while traveling near media on my way home to NJ. I saw it listed online and there was a small picture of the outside. I needed a new tire for my bike so I figured why not. When I entered the store the first thing I noticed was it was much larger and had a crazy amount of bikes with all brands not just the common one or two that most bike shops carry and push. The staff was incredibly helpful and I was overwhelmed at the selection. The technician not only helped me pick out a pair of tires for my bike but he went in the back and found me a set that was 20 dollars cheaper because he took the time to ask me about what I needed and didn't up sell me. He also adjusted my handle bars for me for free and gave me some really helpful tips. He was so friendly and then he took me on a tour of the place which really blew me away!!! They have a whole slew of inventory in the basement. More bikes than most of the big shops carry and parts and accessories too. The most incredible thing is they build and customized one of a kind frames and build bikes right there. They are crap either they are some of the best bikes on the road and they don't even try to force them on you. You would think a shop that builds their own bikes would have them all over and push them every chance they get, but I wouldn't have even known if I didn't start asking questions. I was genuinely impressed with the shop and the workers there. For the most part, I find the cycling community is a friendly and helpful bunch, but I was blown away by the shop and the workers.
