Inconsistent quality depending whether you dine in or take out. This is a hit or miss, but more of a miss recently. We ordered similar items each time and we've noticed that a lot of the basic ingredients were missing on our entrees. It seems that they've been cutting on costs by skimping on ingredients and size even with their 5% surcharge. The quality of food has definitely suffered. Our go to Dim Sum place. This place is great! It gets really crowded on Saturdays and Sundays during lunch time, but that just means they have the stuff! They bring out carts of food and you just pick whichever your heart desires. It's especially good because you can see exactly what you're getting before you order it. As far as dinners, they have the biggest serving I've seen so far in the area. I've been to East Pearl in Rockville and Noodle King in Silver Spring area (both of those places are great) but Mai Dragon has got them beat as far as service size. Best Chinese/Cantonese food in the area! My boyfriend and I both ordered the roasted duck noodle soup and it was amazing. (Be aware that there are bones that come with the duck so be careful chewing them!) They have a large dining room in the front, and a smaller overflow room in the back. The servers are efficient, and give you a number to secure your place in line (the day we went, there was a long line of people eagerly waiting to get in, and the dining room was packed). All the food was fresh and fantastic. Some of the best cheung fun (肠粉) aka steamed rice roll I've had in the area. Also highly recommend their chār sīu 叉烧 aka Chinese BBQ pork, both in buns (char siu bao), and on its own. Prices were also eminently fair, practically a steal before tip and tax. Overall not bad but not great. We came here for the dim sum a few years ago and again today. The portion sizes have definitely gotten smaller and the prices still the same so you are getting less bang for your buck. The shrimp dumplings are my favorite and they never cease to disappoint. However, everything else was mediocre and I wasn't too impressed. I also left with a queasy feeling in my stomach that started a couple hours later. Man, I wanted so bad to like this place. It's so close to my house, the service was good, the food came out fast, it looked great, and there was a lot of it for the price. I paid $24 for a sushi roll, crab Rangoon, and duck over rice. Unfortunately, the food wasn't very good. The Alaska Roll was just ok. The crab Rangoon tasted ok, but they were so tough that they were kind of hard to eat. Whatever wonton wrappers they used were like double thick, so the outside was crispy, but the inside was rubbery and hard. I was so stoked to get roasted duck over rice for $10! The container was stuffed, there was some sort of steamed leafy green vegetable, and there was a pretty generous portion of duck. Man, I can't even eat it. I've had roasted duck in Chinese food courts that was so good that I ate it standing up over a open styrofoam container that someone else was holding and the juice was dripping down my arm and I didn't care. This was not it. It was completely dry and flavorless, hadn't been seasoned at all (not even a drizzle of sauce over the finished product), and hadn't been roasted long enough to crisp the skin all the way through, so it was super fatty and gross on the underside. I always feel terrible when I write a less than stellar review. Maybe I will come back and try the more standard Americanized Chinese food to see if it's better just so I can give it another chance...but, there you have it. read more

When I first moved to this area I was excited about being so close to the Hardee's that's on this shopping center. Little did I know that Mai Dragon was the true gem in the area. The waiter came over introduced himself, and took our drink orders, and when he returned we order our food. The way the menu is set up. You can pick a meat, and pretty much have it prepared a multitude of ways which i liked. I went in with my heart set on general tsos, but after really reading through the options I ended up ordering the "Thai Dynamite Chicken". Which ended up being the best decision I could've made. I can honestly say that I have never had anything even remotely similar to the taste of this dish. I want to try to explain it, but words fail me right now. If I was a chicken I would die happy knowing I was about to become "Thai Dynamite Chicken". #GoodLawd Here is the description from the menu: Breaded deep fried chicken. Nice chinese spot with a quick lunch service. Ordered the Hunan Chicken lunch special, came with rice and egg roll. Food tasted fresh and it was prepared pretty quickly during lunch rush. The restaruant is fairly good size, clean and the decore is nice. The waiters and hosts were very nice and accomodating. The price of the entire meal was less than 7 bucks. It has a pretty big menu as well. I will def go back and try other menu options. Plus it is super close to where I work, so easy to go for lunch! read more

However I was pleasantly surprised. I ended up getting shu mai, chow fun, har gau, and steam buns. I've had these dishes before at several reputable dim sum restaraunts, Mai Dim Sum was able to come really close. I'm happy that there's a good dim sum place in the Ft. I've been to Mai Dragon a total of 4 times. This restaurant was recommended by a friend of mine. The food is ok however when I ordered my Chinese Broccoli it came out cold. I told the waiter and his response was that is how the appetizer comes. The crazy thing is I was there for Dim Sum. The pho place down the street ran out of Pho so I opted to try this place. We got an order of spring rolls, pad Thai in blazing Thai flavor, pho with beef steak, tripe, and tendon, and a small shrimp fried rice. Pad Thai. It looked like a pad Thai dish but this definitely is not a good pad Thai. They use dried Chinese peppers to flavor which was absolutely overpowering so I couldn't taste anything beside the dried peppers. This is more like a Chinese noodle dish, not a Thai dish. Pho. The beef steak was super tender but the broth was not good. It was way too salty and lacked that deeply developed flavors an authentic pho places often offer. Broth tasted very "fake"--we couldn't find a better word to describe it, lol Shrimp fried rice. Had nice big shrimps! The shrimp was cooked so well and was super plump. The place it self was nice and clean. The menu was long and pretty simple. The customer service was nice from everyone accept the young lady taking the order at the bar. I walked in to make an order to go and noticed that the old man sitting at he bar was most likely the owner since he was the only one that greeted me as I walked into the restaurant. The young lady behind the bar taking my order seemed like I was wasting her time. She didn't really want to sell me on anything when I asked her whats good here or when I asked what the specials were. I then figured I would order something simple like Mongolian beef. When the order was ready an older lady, which seemed like the owners wife, gave me my order with a smile and greeted me as well. She was so nice for just a simple, I couldn't help but smile. That's the kind of customer service I expect. The dish came with white rice and was priced at $12. For that price I wasn't happy with the amount. I could have gone somewhere else and paid less and got more or the same amount. I do have to say that the flavor was good and the rice was perfect. I found nothing wrong with the food but at the same time, it was just Mongolian beef. I would like to come back and order something different and see what they can really do. I'll just make sure that I sit in the dining room and not at the bar to make sure I get some customer service with a smile. If your looking for a nice place to sit down and get some Asian food, this is the place to try. If you looking at price, look somewhere else. Update 2016: Up from three stars to four. They now offer Dim Sum, both cart service on weekends and from the menu (even online orders) plus a full Cantonese menu. The Cantonese food is very good from what I've tried. The dishes always arrive quickly and fresh, with flavorful seasoning used throughout. There really is no other Dim Sum in the immediate area, but it it still pretty decent here. Not quite as much variety, but what they have they do well. The ambiance could be better, probably barely worth three stars for that. From the sad lonely (but interesting) fish in the tank up front to the various serving items (dinner ware, napkins, pitchers, etc.) located on almost every flat surface in the dining area, they could really neaten the place up so that it conveys a better atmosphere. But the place is clean, and if you are coming for the food that is what really matters. So stop on by for more than your usual Chinese and Sushi fare, you shouldn't be disappointed. read more
