Wow - what a special place! We had friends visiting from out of town and wanted to take them out for a nice dinner. We got that along with amazing views for an affordable price! I've liked Mahogany ever since they had the location on Poplar, but this location is definitely a step up. The interior is luxurious, glamorous and beautiful. I would say their menu has upscale soul food. I really wanted to try their vegan items, but our server gave us disclaimers about most of the items containing egg or coming with non-vegan sauces. I did get the vegan wings with honey gold sauce which I enjoyed. My suggestion is to come here for their delicious cocktails and maybe split a couple of cocktails. Make sure you get a table on the lower level so you can enjoy the river views!

Food was amazing. View was amazing. I had the salmon, hubby had blackened catfish, both really good. Our waitress was awful, not sure if it was her first day, but we had to repeat our order multiple times and she had no idea what pino Grigio was. Food came out quickly. Pay to park was a pain, the QR code at the spot didn't work. Wine was misprinted, said 8, was charged 10. Asked the waitress, she said not my problem. Anyway good was so good we would probably still return.

The best fried chicken, Mac and cheese , GREENS!!

The food and service was amazing . I always order greens - these were the best, EVER. I highly recommend.

Well.. we booked our book club meeting a month ahead.. We had to rebook due to the snow in January. We arrive at Magic to hear. So you have a reservation and do you have verification of your deposit? Well, we keep a receipt so the answer was yes! They didn't have our reservation. They are in the middle of switching from open table to toast for reservations. The food was ok! Catfish was a little salty for me. The waffle on the chicken and waffles was an ego literally. The ambiance was decent. The waiter got the drinks confused. There was a small rumble with the bartender. It's black history month. I wanted to support a black owned business. ‍

My wife, and another couple from Atlantaha had an incredible time at Mahogany River Terrace for a 50th birthday party! The space was beautiful, the river view added a special touch, and the vibe was just right for celebrating. Had a live band that killed it. Music wasn't too loud and over baring. The staff was very attentive. Definitely a top spot for events in Memphis!"

This is a great weekend brunch, date night spot. I would recommend booking a reservation because they will be packed over the weekend. The food selection was diverse from vegan, lambs and seafood. The food took a little long but we did have a large party so it was expected. I believe our wait time was around 1 hour. I wouldn't go off our wait time if you plan to have a smaller party. The best part besides the quality of the food was the live band. This was a great added touch for brunch. If their patio was open it would be a great spot to have brunch looking out to the river. This restaurant offers valet parking for $20 or general parking is about $5-$10 for 3 hours. If you are looking for a great new brunch spot check it out.

Went in for a 2 pm Sunday brunch celebration. Weren't seated until 2:15 even though our whole party of 6 ppl were there on time. Also, wasn't happy that we had to pay $10 for General parking or $20 for valet. I chose valet but dang, do they not own their own parking lot? So I had to pay for parking even though they have a huge parking lot which is rare downtown. Then waited 15 min on a reservation. But the restaurant is really nice with a great view of the MS river plus they had live music being played...think Bridgerton vibes. So I calmed down taking everything in and enjoying the vibe. Then they tell us we have to order by 2:30 pm bc they close at 3 pm for the dinner prep. So we order our food and drinks quickly. 20 min later, still no food nor drinks, so we order beignets to eat with our water that is on the table. Beignets are delicious. It's after 3 and our food comes out. My daughter and mother's waffle and bacon is raw. We have to send it back. Comes back great. Everyone else ordered grilled/fried fish with grits and greens. We were pleased despite everything. Service can be slow. You have to pay for parking. But you will eventually enjoy your meal. If service was better, I could get past the paid parking and might come more often. But right now another restaurant has the ambiance, vibe, free parking, great service, and good food. They are still my fav. Wish it could be Mahogany esp with that view, but alas

Third Attempt at Mahogany River Terrace - A Surprising Turnaround For our third visit to Mahogany River Terrace, we decided to embrace the inevitable hike to the entrance rather than catching a ride with the friendly chauffeur. Upon arrival, we were promptly greeted, which was already a step up from past experiences. Our reservation was for seven, and although not all of our guests had arrived, the staff graciously seated the first two--an unexpected but appreciated gesture. Our waiter was a breath of fresh air--friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and professional. It was a sharp contrast to previous visits, setting a more positive tone for the evening. As always, the decor and ambiance were on point. The space radiates an eccentric yet groovy energy, effortlessly blending modern elegance with a relaxed, welcoming vibe. It's the kind of setting that makes you want to settle in, sip a drink, and truly enjoy the moment. Speaking of drinks, we ordered a few, though I can't recall the names--just know they were absolutely delicious. Perfectly crafted, balanced, and exactly what you'd hope for in a refined dining experience. For starters, we went with beignets, and from there, we indulged in a feast: lamb chops and grits, steak, fried catfish, oxtails and grits, greens, hot water cornbread, mac and cheese, brioche French toast, Belgian waffles, fried potatoes, and scrambled eggs. Each dish carried a unique chef's touch, blending authentic seasoning with bold, unforgettable flavors. Every bite felt intentional--thoughtfully crafted and packed with layers of taste that left us thoroughly impressed. We were seated in the main dining area, where the sun beamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows. While the natural light created a beautiful setting, the Memphis heat made it clear that some shades or tinting could enhance the dining experience during peak hours. I couldn't be more elated to finally see this establishment thriving--not just with exceptional cuisine, but with outstanding service and a staff that truly reflects the value, expertise, and dedication poured into this place. Mahogany River Terrace has stepped up, and it shows. Way to go!

I really enjoyed my time at this establishment. I visited the first location in the past but this one exceeded my expectations. The service was excellent, the ambiance was perfect, and the food was delectable! We visited on Easter Sunday and it was crowded as expected. We made a reservation but had to wait maybe 15-20 minutes which was no problem. I enjoyed the catfish, greens pot likka, mac and cheese and cornbread. My companion had french toast brioche. Both of these dishes were chef kiss. The background music and scenic views made my experience more pleasant. They have paid parking maybe $5-$10 and a shuttle to bring you from parking lot to front door then back to your car afterwards. Can you say royal treatment! I look forward to visiting again in the very near future!

This is one of my favorite restaurants!!! I've been here a few times for lunch and I've introduced to several of my colleagues. The food is delicious! The customer service is amazing, and the ambiance of the restaurant is exquisite. I'm not a native of Memphis, a transplant from DC, who absolutely loves Memphis and the food scene here. I plan to attend a brunch soon and I also plan to come back for evening dining. Thank you to the staff and the Assistant Manager (forgive me for forgetting your name) but every visit has been amazing!

Enjoyed this brunch here. They only do the brunch menu on weekends fyi, be sure to pay for parking before you walk in, but they do have the qr code if you forget. Valet is 20 dollars, so definitely wasn't doing that. They do have a complimentary shuttle which was really nice. We got on it as we were leaving. The vibe was nice, it was a packed house as it was Father's Day. Sometimes it looks dead in there, there's a lot of seats inside and out. The shrimp and grits were good, but my friend got the chicken and waffles and it looked really good. Two big pieces of fried bone in chicken. I'll get that next time. Service was good and quick.

I was visiting family in Memphis & was asked to make a reservation at Mahogany, unfortunately, I was not aware that there are 2 locations. BE CAREFUL WHEN BOOKING! Though I made my reservation for Midtown (in error) The River Terrace was able to accommodate my party of 7 at the bar. Though not ideal, they did the best they could and I appreciate that! We were served by Chantel at the bar. She is an excellent example of superior customer service. She was knowledgeable of the menu, provided great suggestions, and had a welcoming, warm and can-do attitude. We wanted for nothing while we fellowshipped. I truly appreciate great service! I had the Beignets to start, they weren't the traditional version, but for what they presented as, they were tasty, flaky, yet soft and sweet. For my main course, I had the Catfish & Grits. The catfish was perfection! The grits had great texture, but flavor wise, it needed a little more love, but after adding salt & pepper it was just fine. I also ordered the collard greens - as a non pork eater I will always take the opportunity to eat greens outside of the house when I can! The Cornbread on top was also very good. My brother got the shrimp & grits and they were tasty as well! Lastly, I had 2 Michael Jackson's Billie Jean (I think that was the name?). It was their variation of a French 75. I throughly enjoyed them. Overall I really enjoyed my time there & will most definitely visit again when I am back in town.

I feel like this place embodies the essence of my inner peace somehow. It was born as a overflow bar for Iris from the lore I hear. To me, as I see it, this place became Chef Kelly's escape to reality as far as food, atmosphere, and service are concerned. I think this place presents his personality in his relaxed more chill version. If you have ever been to Iris, specifically, when it was next door, you would understand what I mean. When it was the tiny place it had some kind of pretentiousness to it that just turned me off. I only ate there once. It would take weeks to get a reservation before he moved it and the constant limelight had to be a lot of pressure. This place though.... I could come here three times a week no issue. In fact, I actually wish that I could eat here three days a week. Second Line is moving soon. They are going back to being next door to Iris in the newer Laurelwood location. In some ways I wonder if Chef needs that jovial comfort of a place next to Iris to keep him grounded. I do hope the charm of this is somehow transferred, but looking out the windows into Cooper the last time I was here Dec '25, just will not be a possibility in that shopping center it's headed to. That will be lost. He's a great guy! Hell of a Chef! World class employer! Tremendous philanthropist! A leader in the City of Memphis! Please go support him in the new location. Now.... All that BS and I ain't said shit about the food and why I like this place so much. If you scroll through my photos you will see almost every dish that has ever been on the menu here. Some are fantastic! All are very good! I have had nothing but great food here for many years! I have only had one bad meal here. Catfish Picante and it is long gone it seems! I wrote a long ass draft I never published (thank god), after that visit. I do believe it was my first time here and I almost didn't return. What a waste that would have been. My favorites now are Sweet Heat Oysters, Chicken Livers with pepper jelly, that lobster knuckle sandwich from waaaay back, spinach Madeline, and of course... the Red Beans and Rice. The desserts are always killer as well. I guess I'll catch you at the new place soon! Love you guys!! '25 - Finale

Turns out, it was the perfect size. We then ordered our entrees. We had an order of catfish fingers, shrimp and grits, and chicken and shrimp pasta. The catfish was real good. Crispy and tasty. Fries were good also. Next, the shrimp and grits. Good flavor. And then the shrimp and chicken pasta. Excellent. Creamy and a little bit spicy. Good flavor. Someone said shrimp were small. Not this time. Shrimp were as expected. All played were huge. There was allot of food. Easy more than any of us could finish. And we were hungry. So make sure you bring your appetite. We finished with an order of beignets. A little bit over cooked but the interior was nice and fluffy. Very crunchy. In all, this place rocks. Everything was way better than expected. As a child I grew up on fried fish filets and hush puppies until my grandfather had to retire and sell his restaurant due to his Health. He still cooks up a mess of catfish for us about two or three times a year when we visit. Yum! My standards for good catfish are extremely high. Good fried catfish is not greasy, light cornmeal batter, tender flaky inside, and slightly crispy on the outside. Sounds simple enough but the truth of the matter is... Good fried catfish takes skill. After an epic searched for any decent catfish in Memphis and surrounding areas that took a few years ... My family and I decided to give up. And when I heard about Soul Fish it took some considerable convincing to get them to go. We where, none of us, disappointed! Soul Fish is without a doubt the best Catfish in Memphis. It is perfectly fried... Hushpuppies are tasty, coleslaw edible if not always yummy, fried pickles crisp and tart, pickle green tomatoes so yummy I could swim in them, and vegetables always cooked and seasons well (special recognition to the cabbage, broccoli, and black eyed peas). The service is always friendly, fast, efficient, and correct. The blackened catfish is pretty tasty too ... Sometimes they get a little heavy handed on the seasoning. Deserts are pretty great as well. My sister loves the Mississippi mud chocolate thingy they have (I'm not a chocolate fan). I've introduced many people (about 40 or so) to Soul Fish - locals and visitors alike - and no one ... And I mean not a single one of them where disappointed. So why four stars instead of five? True... the catfish is the best in Memphis - however it is not the best I've ever had. And Sometimes a filet or two at Soul Fish fall short of perfection... However ... I'm a regular and a fan of Soul Fish Cafe. If you have spent hours and disappointed meals trying to find good catfish in Memphis ... Look no further ... This is the place for you. I promise you will not Be disappointed!

Memphis is a slight detour on our way back to Texas, but there was no way we were settling for fast food along the highway. We wanted good seafood--fresh, satisfying, and worth the stop. Inside, it feels like a slightly bougie fish cafe--clean, cozy, and well-kept, with subtle holiday decor and that warm Southern hospitality greeting you at the door. Our server, Denise, was professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. The one-page menu keeps it simple, and she walked us through it along with the daily special. The food however was honestly meh (in my opinion). I got a creole dish and to be fair my dish looked beautiful. The plating was 10/10 but the taste for me left something to be desired. After eating this dish I questioned if I even like creole sauce because it really just wasn't that good. If this is a preference issue, I honestly don't know. I also thought the charcuterie appetizer had a weird mix of items on it from club crackers, to meat and cheese, and random veggies. Not bad but just kind of a weird mix. My husband ordered the salmon and he said it was good, not the best he's had but it was good. Other friends of ours got the white fish among the many other dishes. I did have a salad with these apples on it which was incredibly yummy. I will say though my dish looked amazing some of the other dishes were not plated well. Not to nitpick but to want to be considered a more upscale restaurant which means charging guest more money than say a local Applebee's then knowing how to appropriately garnish or drizzle sauce to elevate at plate is important (see my picture of the chicken dish). All and all not my favorite restaurant but definitely not the worst!!
