Some experiences are so incredibly awful, you have to laugh to keep from crying, or breaking things. I sent my spouse to this dealership, for a routine service checkup and state inspection, for we are new to the state. I should have known something was wrong with this dealership, when their service site didn't have prices listed for routine services. Most(if not all) Ford dealerships will tell you what an oil change costs before you show up. When my wife brought her car in, she was informed that an inspection, plus a 100k mile checkup would run her almost 1500 dollars. We declined the checkup and asked for the state inspection. When my wife came back to retrieve her car, she was informed that due to a malfunctioning third brake light and backlight, the car wouldn't pass inspection. They offered to fix the vehicle, for a grand total of 1600 dollars. They tried to upsell my wife on tire rotations, for a tire that was replaced following a flat. They tried to sell her all kinds of additional services, despite it being obvious that everything offered was overpriced, as well as not needed. Not only did they lie to my spouse, they also insulted her intelligence by providing incorrect information about how the items were to be repaired. Once she declined everything and paid for the inspection, we went to an legitimate, honest mechanic, who informed us that it would cost around 500 dollars to fix everything needed for the vehicle to pass inspection, and the reason it was even that expensive was because of light bar needing to be replaced in full. The phrase "Stealership" gets thrown around a lot, but few places truly live up to the title. Maguire Ford put in a strong claim as King of the Stealerships, with their dishonesty and incompetence. I brought two vehicles in for inspection, neither had any check engine lights on. When I picked them up, they BOTH had lights; one for o2 sensor and the other for wheel speed sensor. A week later, the started failed on one vehicle. Six months later, the engine had to be replace in that same vehicle which had 100k miles on it. Lots of coincidences, ya? Well, I had another mechanic from Lansing replace the o2 sensor. He showed me the old one and pointed out that it had actually been cut. Maybe the mechanic was too lazy to get an ohms reading from the correct source, or maybe it was for a quick repair buck. Either way, it certainly makes all of these other random issues a bit less random seeming. So are all of these unusual coincidences really coincidence? Ive not got over 17K into repairs on a 2018 Ford F150, and Maguire Ford has been doing the service on it. Never again. ASK for your part back so that you can inspect it, or at least get pictures of the part from every angle so that you can be sure your mechanic didnt screw something up that you will have to pay dearly for. read more

mcguire ford cheated me. i bought my f150 2.7 at shepherd ford, then to be McGuire ford. i've used their service department several times, most recently in october 2023. they did some heavy duty work that involved removing/ replacing, draining/ refilling the transmission. prior to this service the transmission was perfect, smooth shifting, no issues, at all. a mere 1,000 miles later i was hauling my travel trailer across country when the transmission failed. limped into a ford dealer on the road who gave the totally unexpected diagnosis of needing transmission replacement. i called McGuire ford for consult. they denied all accountability. the on the road dealer's service dept couldn't say exactly why the transmission failed, but it was leaking from three four areas . AND., that the transmission had been overfilled. even they said it sure was suspicious of transmission failure so soon after transmission work. mcguire denied all responsibility leaving me with a $ 8200 repair bill. no doubt i won't go to Mcquire for anything, they cannot be trusted to even back up their own work. in this case, they took my money after doing shoddy work and turned their back on me when it failed. if i have one rule for living which it is to be honorable. I was visiting family in Ithaca when my car was having trouble with the suspension. I asked some of the local natives where I should take my Ford product and what was universally said was, "Don't take it to Maguire's" Since I rarely had a bad experience with marquis badged dealerships, AND because most people are over critical about their experiences at car dealership, I took my vehicle to Maguire's anyhow. I explained how I was travelling and how I needed the vehicle on a certain time frame. The service manager seemed to be sympathetic. They quoted me a price which was more than I hoped to spend, especially on the road. Since I was captive on a time schedule, I agreed to the repair. The part took longer to arrive which left me rearranging my schedule---I can't really blame them because there was a snow storm, and a delay was reasonable. So after I picked up my "fixed" ride, less than 60 minutes on the road, the problem reemerged! I was quite upset after spending nearly a thousand bucks, waiting four days for the repair to be completed and just pulling off the lot that I had to turn around back to the dealership. This is what I was told: "We can't recreate the problem, and we fixed the check engine light, so we don't know what to do." So I asked them if they supposedly fixed the problem, then why was I having problems. The service manager shrugged her shoulders and told me she didn't know what else they could do and referred me to email their general manager. So, I had to drive another 700 miles with this problem coming back intermittently...pulling over and hoping the problem would subside even if temporary. When I got home, I emailed the general manager and asked him: If you made me spend a bunch of money on a repair that didn't fix the problem, then how is that reasonable and why should I be totally responsible? He told me that the technician fixed what triggered the the check engine light and that I was responsible for the cost of the repairs. Apparently, sensors NEVER malfunction, fail, or report the wrong code. No apologies, no "I understand how you must feel"....just a too bad, so sad response. The irony is there's a big sign in their service shop that says, "If there's anything I can do for you to make your experience better...-Mr. Maguire" I guess not in my instance. I've used a lot of dealerships in my lifetime and I will tell you this---If the shop looks like a mess, it's probably run like a mess. While I was inside the shop, I took a good look around, and Maguire's did not seem tidy and well run from all the run around excuses they gave me while the car was in the shop. Then I get a half-cocked, "you're a nuisance" response from someone who is supposed to be responsible for it all. My impression was, "Oh, now I see why everyone gives that place a bad rap..." Next time, I would rather be towed to the next town's dealership than be serviced here. Shame on you Mr.Ford and Mr. Maguire....shame. read more

I went to Maguire Ford to have my front brakes and rotors replaced on my Ford F-150. They charged me $218 more than what they quoted me, and there were no complications during the installation. Additionally, they charged me $222.07 more than a different Ford service center two weeks before. Every line item from the equipment to the labor was up charged. My rear seatbelt buckles keep getting crushed from gentle lowering and raising of the rear seats, a manufacturer defect that others with the same vehicle are having trouble with as well, but there is no recall on my vehicle. I was told on the phone that the seatbelt buckle repair would probably be covered so I made an appointment, waited a week, drove all the way to Maguire, only to find out they charge a minimum of 80 dollars to "diagnose" the issue before even considering coverage for a manufacturer defect. They outright refused to even look at it or let me take the 60 seconds it would take to show them what is happening with the vehicle, and demanded 80 for "diagnostic purposes". A seatbelt buckle is 50-ish for my vehicle so, it's not worth it. Am disgusted with this company for this rigid policy because there is absolutely no way it would take 30 minutes to diagnose this issue. It would take less than 5 minutes. Also, they charge an exorbitant amount for their repair work. They will only buy official name brand parts and charge a ton for labor. Last time I had my brakes done, I was quoted completely wrong (hundreds of dollars less) and they tried to make up for it by giving me a small discount on their new price. I bought my vehicle new from them, and just... expected better. The staff are nice, but their hands are tied by their ridiculous money gouging system. read more

I went down to get going on replacing my F-250. Although there were almost no customers it took 15 minutes for my sales person to show up (they would be "right with me"). She wanted me to design my own truck on line rather than going through the options with me personally. We left it with her offering to get back to me on the next month's incentives (it was the last day of the current month). I sent her a reminder email and she said she was out but would get back to me later that week. After 10 days I gave up and went to Dovi down in Cortland. In an hour I was in and out with a custom-designed and ordered vehicle with a completely reasonable price point. Enough said. read more

I've taken my Ford here for all service since moving to Ithaca. The shuttle service is great, but that's just about the only great thing. I often feel like they are pressuring me into extra repairs beyond what is necessary. I had my tires replaced in another state and when I returned, the service person told me it was time to replace them. Obviously they hadn't looked at the brand new tires. What prompted me to write this review was their new "no appointment" policy. I needed a simple oil change and called to make the appointment. The woman on the phone told me no appointment was necessary for an oil change and that she wasn't going to be able to give me one. I showed up to the service department at 8:30am to get an oil change and they told me they would not be able to fit me in until 2:30. It is frustrating because I was willing to make an appointment and they refused, and when I did show up, they couldn't fit me in. read more

My husband and I recently went to Maguire to check out a vehicle I saw online. It was listed for a GREAT price, and I was quite excited because I really liked the looks of it. That was the end of our good experience. When we asked about the car I saw online, we were told that the vehicle we saw was already sold, and of course, they had nothing else in that price range. They did have a few of the same year, make and model, but they were about 3-4k higher in price. I asked the salesman why those particular vehicles were higher, and they said they'd discounted the one I saw online since it had sat there awhile. I asked if there was anything they could do on the price of a comparable vehicle, and he said no. They could not change the price on those cars until they'd sat on the lot for 90 days. So, we test-drove one of the more expensive cars and did like it, but when he went to crunch the numbers, even though he knew my budget beforehand, the salesman brought back prices that were significantly higher than what we wanted. Like $200-more-per-month higher. We haggled and he argued with us when I said I didn't want a warranty because it cost too much, and it really felt like I had to force him to give me numbers without adding the warranty in. Then he brought back a set of different numbers that was closer to my budget, but still quite a bit higher. I felt very pressured to agree to those terms, so I said yes and THEN he went to the banks to try to get us what he forced us into agreeing to. Sound kind of backwards to you? During our (very long) wait to see what the banks said, we were forced to listen to another salesman sing a long Broadway showtune for his customers, who had just purchased a vehicle from him. Yes, I'm serious. He climbed right up the stairs to a landing about 8 feet above our heads, and belted out some long, rather depressing showtune. He had a great voice, but methinks it was neither the time nor the place for such a performance. It was weird, and made us very uncomfortable. After a LONG wait, the Maguire salesman stated the banks wouldn't loan us money, so we left without a vehicle after 2 hours of waiting and another 2 hours of dickering with him when we first got there. I truly felt a bit embarrassed by their attitudes, like we weren't 'good-enough' to shop there. They even told me that "one bank had made a counter-offer, but the terms were so bad that it might as well have been a No." They kept pushing us to put money down and when I said I could put a little down there, they sort of turned up their noses at it, stating such a small amount wouldn't matter. It was really sort of rude. I was sure there was something out there for us, so out of curiosity, The VERY NEXT DAY, I pulled up their website, and lo and behold, the VERY SAME VEHICLE WE WERE BEING BULLIED INTO BUYING WAS NOW BEING SOLD FOR $1,000 LESS!!! It became very clear to me that these people didn't WANT to sell us a car. Had they wanted to, they would have discounted the price then and there. They wouldn't have made us feel like the scum on the bottom of their shoes. Seeing that vehicle advertised for $1,000 less the very next day felt like a slap in the face. So, I went to a different dealership the following week, bought the same year, make and model as the one I looked at at Maguire, and not only did I get more for my trade-in, I also got a great interest rate, no downpayment and an awesome warranty, all for over $150 less per month than Maguire wanted to charge me, even without a warranty. At Simmons Rockwell, I didn't get the rather rude comments about the banks' willingness to approve me. The salesman at Maguire made it sound like we had NO chance of getting approved, and my Simmons Rockwell salesman worked hard for us and gave us an awesome interest rate without making us feel embarrassed about us financial situation. In fact, it was the best rate we've ever gotten while car-shopping. Bottom line: I will NEVER shop at Maguire again. I'd much rather go where I'm wanted. read more

Permanent stored code needed to be cleared by a Ford Dealership by their computer. Instead they said 1600$ to replace the same thing I already replaced, bit the bullet and said do it inspect car. Received car back days later, poor communication from Service Desk people had to call multiple times myself with promise of call returned and never got a call, no inspection sticker, not sure if they actually replaced it or hooked it up to computer. I moved to Ithaca from California a few months ago to start my graduate work at Cornell. I have a 2011 Ford Focus, and given that both it and I have spent our whole lives on the west coast, neither of us were prepared for the winter. So after a hair-raising time skidding around on Cali tires with frozen windshield wiper fluid all December, I decided to get my car Ithacaized. I made an appointment at the dealership, saying that I wanted an oil change, to buy snow tires, and to get my windshield wiper fluid swapped out for the stuff that wouldn't freeze. Kind of annoying that I couldn't make an appointment online, but not a huge deal. I left my car at the shop and took the shuttle home, which was very convenient. Later when the shuttle returned me to the dealership about 6 hours later, I was informed that the windshield wiper fluid was a solid block of ice and was still frozen even after 6 hours in the shop and some heat gunning. They topped it off with some antifreeze mix, letting me know that it might mix in and solve the problem. Given that there really wasn't much else to be done until it thawed in April, I was appreciative that they at least came up with this solution. They also told me my old tires had plenty tread left, and that I should keep them for when spring came. Shortly after I left the dealership with my new tires, however, I noticed that the low tire pressure light was on. I would ding them a point for not checking that after changing the tires, but it's entirely possible that it came on after I left the lot. I can't say for sure because I didn't notice until I got home. In any case, I turned around and gave them a call, they told me to swing by and they would fix it. I came by, and it seemed to be something wrong with the sensor, but since it was now rather late they told me to come in tomorrow and they would check it out. When I came by, they took the wheel off of the sensor that was acting up, whose battery had apparently died. They told me that I would need a new sensor, and I got one. They even gave me a discounted rate on it and didn't charge me for labor. That seemed quite nice, considering it was a dead battery and not their negligence that caused the sensor to break. Also, they never tried to sell me a new car, unlike all of the dealerships in California who were mercilessly pushy. The two people I talked to, Doug and a guy with glasses and a beard, also were very nice. Despite some of the unavoidable hiccups that come with car ownership, I was very pleased with my service and would go back. read more

Steer clear from this car dealership. They take advantage of elderly people. My dad went in and wanted to lease a new truck. Walked away after putting down 7,000 dollars and payments at 420 a month. After a few phone calls and several lies from their sales representatives later my sister was able to get him out of the deal. She then found him another truck to lease (same one he found in Ithaca) for 2,000 dollars down and 245 dollar monthly payments. Its awful that this dealership took advantage of him and his lack of knowledge of leasing a vehicle. Never again will he do business there. read more

This past Friday night I drove up with my family from NYC to Ithaca, New York in our Ford Fusion. During the 240 mile drive the "Throttle control/transmission" warning light went off twice. The delightful feature of this warning light is that it instantly and automatically turns off the power train so the cars just stalls -- right on the highway. Restarting the car resets it until it happens again. It is dangerous and scary. Fortunately, or so it seemed, there is a Ford dealer in Ithaca with maintenance hours on Saturday, but Maguire Ford completely failed me. Given this situation -- we arrived in Ithaca after 11 pm, -- I could not make an appointment, so I arrived within the first half hour after they opened at 8am on Saturday September 23. They had a published 5:30 close. Even though there were no other visible customers and almost no cars in the shop, they could not help me because, as I was told, only 1 tech was on staff. But worse, they did nothing else either. First the intake person suggested I drive to the Ford dealer in Cortland. Note she did not offer to call and make sure they could help me, she simply said I should drive 35+ minutes further north away from my home in a car prone to instantly shuttting down, without checking if they could even help. When I asked for a local referral she knew nothing of use. How do you run a repair place that turns people away because you are tooo busy and not know how to refer people? So she went to ask the tech. She came back a few minutes later with the name of a shop and a phone number, saying that the tech called them already. I had to ask her for the address. Really, this intake person was so useless she did not even think to give an out-of-towner an address. Armed finally with that information I drove over to that shop, only to be told they had no techs on duty and so could not diagnose my car's ailment. So apparently the Maguire person lied to me when she said they called to confirm this place could help me. I guess she just wanted me gone. That place gave me two further names which were both closed, but I do not blame him. He was not afffiliated with a company that sold me a car prone to shutting down spontaneously on the highway before being useless. In summary Maguire's "help" was a total dead end. Faced with a Ford customer 240 miles from home with a car prone to spontaneous shut downs at 8:30am, they: * Made literally no effort to fit me in * Suggested I drive more than 30 minutes farther from home with no assurance that dealer could help * Referred me to one local shop who was unable to help (and Maguire lied and told me that called to confirm this shop could help); and * Gave me no advice on how to avoid triggering the throttle warning shut down while driving home. As I live so far away, it is pointless to say I will never go there again, but I suggest those who are local stay away. UPDATE: I brought the car to my local Ford dealer on Monday. They ran diagnostics and no codes came up and they told me the codes disappear and reset after 24 hours. So Maguire's failure to help me cost me the only opportunity I ever had to get this issue diagnosed and fixed. read more

I came into the showroom a few weeks ago and inquired about the "Ford Auto Show Test Drive Offer". I met with Tyler, and he helped me fill out the information. When I went to input the information later that day, I realized the information given was incorrect. I thought that this might just be a mix-up so I called the showroom and asked for Tyler. I was told that he was meeting with a customer so I should leave my name/etc, which I did. I waited a week and did not receive a call. I then called the Cell number on his business card and left him a voicemail. 1 month later I still have heard nothing. I avoid bringing my vehicle here unless I have to. The service is poor at best and I am consistently treated with disrespect or ignored entirely. My most recent issue involved having trim fixed on my car which was covered under warranty. It took nearly a month of back and forth until I finally stopped in to see what the problem was. They said they called me, spouting off some phone number I never heard of with an area code from another state. I corrected the number and they told me they'd call me when the parts came in. They did not and yet claimed they did when I stopped in again. I finally make the appointment and when I get here I'm standing at the service desk watching person after person get helped before me. I go to the service manager to find out what is going on and he tells me how unusual it is for people to be treated this way yet its like this everytime I come here. Can't wait for my lease to be up. I purchased a 2008 Ford Edge from Maguire Ford in Ithaca NY in February 2014. I hadn't had my car a day when I noticed the communications button didn't work. When I took it back to them the said it would take an hour to fix. An hour turned into an all day event in which they told me I had to bring my car back because it needed further work to be fixed. So I took it back a week later and they fixed it. After having the car another day or 2 I happen to notice a small crack in my windshield. When I called Maguire to tell them about this they pretty much told me I couldn't prove they did it so I needed to turn it into my insurance. I did and had the windshield fixed. I drove my car for about another 2 weeks ( which is 5 miles round trip ) and my engine light comes on! I call service department to make an appt. They call me at work to tell me they found the problem a loose wire under hood. Not what wire or where it was located. I send my husband to pick up my car and he doesn't even get out of parking lot before car starts bucking and all dash lights come on! He immediately turns around to take it back to be told its quitting time and they cant help him! We were very upset! How could a mechanic or dealership for that matter tell you such a thing?? So I called mechanic in the morning only to get attitude and be told they had to keep my car for a week to figure it out! A week later I call to find out the results and was told my car had been done days ago they just wanted to keep it to make sure it was fixed! That's awesome but at least bonus me the half tank of gas you ran out! So I pick my car up thinking its the end..hahahaha.. I get home and it is still skipping and bucking. I call next morning they tell me to bring it back! I get there the next morning and they check it out and tell me they cant find anything wrong to bring it back when it starts acting up again. I went through this a couple times! Finally FED UP AND EXTREMELY discouraged with my "new car" experience I called the owner "Mr. Maguire". Now when I bought the car I was told if ever I felt I needed too I could call Mr. Maguire, so I exercised the right to call him expecting to be greeted kindly but instead got a stern " I don't have all day to talk"! I am so unimpressed. After explaining my story, Mr. Maguire called me back with his service manager on the line. I was interrogated and made to feel like I was lying about the situation since there was no record of my car ever being in their garage! Go figure!! Now I'm not just upset, I'm pissed! They arrange for me to bring my car down once again and this time take a mechanic for a ride so I can prove what is wrong with my car. I gladly show up and take him for a ride and as I suspected he recognized the problem immediately! I had a bad transmission and badly worn brakes (to the rotor) So now that they know what the problem is its going to take another 3 weeks to fix! We are in the month of may now! I have literally only driven my "new car" for about a month! I am so discouraged thinking I've had better experiences dealing with the buy here pay here dealers than I have had with a professional dealership! So 3 weeks later I pick my car up and drive it home. I get out of my car and smell burning oil! I get up the next day and see a puddle under my car! I immediately call Maguire SR and tell them! They once again have me bring my car back and immediately put it on a lift. They come back and tell me there is no leak but a wet spot on my front axel, I asked " doesn't that mean there's a leak? I'm told no just a wet spot nothing to worry about and its probably some oil that got spilt on the engine while changing transmission. It should stop smelling in a few days. A week later my car is still smelling so I call and they make an appt. 2 weeks later because they had no available mechanics?? How is this possible? But I wait the 2 weeks and finally take my car back to be told the wet spot is a leak and it will cost 500 bucks to fix! I am pissed off! I call the SR manager to talk to him and he tells me he has to look the part up and see if it is covered under my warrantee. I am so upset, this seems like a never ending nightmare! Long story short...It was covered and fixed only for another issue to arise and be told this time its not covered! I expect to pay for car maintenance but when you buy a new used car from a dealer I think most go in having expectations for their "new purchases" the same as the dealer wants us to make good on our promises to make payments, we don't expect to have to deal with such major issues (transmission, wires, rotors, and ignition coils). I got robbed blind don't let it happen to you! Make sure you do your research on dealerships before you make a decision to buy! I wish I had! Worst car ownership in my life and I have 4 more years to deal with it! I will never buy another vehicle from that dealership ever and I am telling everyone I can BEWARE! read more

Maguire has gobbled up dealerships and cornered the Ithaca market but the Maguires have not expanded their service departments to keep up. Maguire Ford/Nissan used to repair or service my car within 48 hours. No longer. I now wait 2-3 weeks for even the most basic services. And if the Parts department makes a mistake in the order (which happens), you'll have to wait even longer. Maguire used to offer you a loaner car if your car was out for more than a day. Not any more. When I trade in this car (which will be soon) I will purchase a model that doesn't need to be serviced by Maguire Inc. In the meantime, I will look for a good independent mechanic. read more

Horrible service!! Promised by both the sales rep and the manager that they would meet me at my house to bring me the new car. They made excuses all day and by the time they were suppose to meet me, they called and said that the couldn't do it. I took time off work to meet them. Horrible service. The sales rep, CL, didn't know what she was doing. Didn't have the paperwork ready and just kept saying that she had to leave to pick up son. By the time I picked up the vehicle that night, she wasn't even there. I would recommend that everyone deal with another dealership, not worth the aggravation or time. read more

I recently purchased a 2013 Nissan from Maguire in Ithaca, Ny. I drove 2 hours south from Rochester to look at the car because it had less than 7,000 miles on it and was listed at 12.9k. The car had been part of their loaner fleet, so the life of the vehicle was fully accounted for by the dealership. I arrived to the appointment late because of a snowstorm and the salesman Fred Ennis stayed after closing to talk with me about the vehicle. My previous car had been totaled just a few days earlier, so I was in a pinch to get a new vehicle before my insurance stopped paying for my rental car. After a no pressure to buy visit that consisted of complimentary ice cream and coffee I decided to sleep on the purchase. Fred offered to deliver the car to me in Rochester at no charge ( which is again, 2 hours from the dealership), if I decided to purchase the car but could not make it back to Ithaca to pick it up. He also gave me his cellphone number so that I could contact him the next day (which was his day off) if I needed to. I decided to purchase the vehicle. I was able to drop my rental off in Ithaca, so I did not need Fred to deliver the car to me. He came in on his day off to finalize the sale because it was the day that worked best for me. He also followed me to enterprise so that I could drop off the rental Apart from Fred's accommodating service, Maguire itself has some great incentives to purchasing a car from them. Benefits such as a guarantee on the engine for the life of the vehicle, free car washes for the remainder of the vehicle's life, and a one year buy back guarantee if you become disabled, or unemployed for a certain amount of time etc. Other great business touches include the cell and home phone numbers of the company's owner on a giant banner in the sales room urging you to call him at any time and make it collect, if the service you include is less than perfect. At purchase, the car was waiting for me with roses on its dashboard. They also gave me extra gas since I had to drive 2 hours to get home. The lender they deal with approved me for a lower APR than my bank did, so I was able to save even more money because of them. All in all, my purchase took only two days. Maguire's prices and accommodating service helped make my post accident situation a lot less stressful than I expected. read more
