Grand Canyon 5 day camping trip where they guided us 11 ladies, cooked, washed dishes, and even lubed our bikes after the ride. They picked up in St. George, provided a large dry bag, small dry bag & shuttled our bikes and us to the north rim camp site. We set up camp, they fed us, we rode the rainbow rim over 3 days. Limestone slashed my tire and the guide helped repair it enough for us to get back to the camp site. They had a used extra tire for my 29 wheel, so I really lucked out. Great Meals, on the healthy side so I lost weight, others gained weight since they said they normally don't eat 3 meals a day. Worry free guided, fully supported bike camping. There were guides for the faster ladies and guides for us slower ladies. We all got along and took as many or as little photos as we liked. Perfect touring adventure company. Will for sure utilized them again for a fully supported bike camping adventure. Bring personal snacks if you like-- I brought gummy bears and Swedish fish. Also some cans of wine and juices. They have a cooler. They have a sense of humor. And they worked really hard to make sure we were safe and showed us the view points. Love Magpie cycling! read more

We were traveling impromptu after a conference, planning as we went. Our original idea wasn't Moab at all, but we changed plans at the last minute in order to visit national and state parks in the area. I am not fit but love outdoor adventure activities, and we looked into a morning session with a mountain biking guide/instructor. We were interested in Magpie Cycling after researching online; they seemed to have a high level of professionalism in terms of certifications and ongoing education of their guides & staff. We were interested in learning bits about local history and natural environment, and Magpie also seemed aligned with that. Magpie came through at the last minute in a big way. Although I'm sure they prefer more notice, they were accommodating with our circumstances. Maggie checked availability and got us set up quickly for the next day with our guide Eric. Eric was wonderful, very patient as he explained techniques and concepts to two novices. We are non-young flatlanders, and I struggled with endurance, but Eric was unfailingly encouraging. He adapted his plan to our needs. We spent time on skills in a parking lot first. Then we went on a trail. We didn't go far (due to my constraints, really) but we learned loads. I'm sure that our efforts were simple compared to others, but I was amazed at how differently a mountain bike handles compared to a road bike, and we were going over rocks and features and curbs by the end of the session that I wouldn't have thought possible at the start. It was much more fun than exercising by running in a circle or the like! Feeds your spirit, with the thrill of adventure, the nature and changing scenery, the variety of the trail. My friend and I were visiting the Moab area for a few days and planned to try out mountain biking. I coordinated with Magpie over email leading up to our visit. The communication was great. Magpie is part of the owner's name.... Maggie. Magpie worked out a plan to fit our beginner status along with the timing and location we planned to be at the day of the tour. On the day of our tour, we had some short hikes planned at Dead Horse Point State Park. We coordinated with Magpie to do a sunset ride following our hikes at the park with relatively easy, beginner friendly terrain. Magpie thought that plan was a great idea! Before our visit, Magpie sent detailed instructions through email about what to wear, bring, etc. We met our guides, Jules and Mike, at the park in the parking area. They were easy to spot as the vehicle had the Magpie logo on the side... Plus the bikes! As we walked up, Mike and Jules gave us a friendly greeting. They gave us an overview of the bikes, got us setup with helmets, and showed us some basic mountain biking skills to practice. It was recommended that we bring biking gloves to wear on the tour. I was glad we had them.... Purchase some before you head to Moab so you can be sure they fit. We practiced basic skills for about 20 minutes in the parking area before venturing out on the trail. On the bikes we wore our small backpacks filled with snacks and water. Magpie included a bottle of water for us as well and offered us a snack before leaving the parking area. I recommend wearing joggers and long sleeves to prevent any scrapes from some of the small shrubs you pass along the trail. The trails at Dead Horse Point seemed about the right skill level for beginners. They are well marked, signed, and fairly flat with small hills. Mike and Jules coached us where necessary while stopping several times to ensure we were drinking water, to point out sights, or to take photos for us. The terrain was fun and not too difficult. There were a few tougher spots that our guides helped us navigate. Nothing a beginner couldn't tackle! The views from the trails were amazing! After a few hours on the bikes, we headed back to the parking area. If this is your first time mountain biking I would suggest keeping between 90 minutes and two hours. We tipped Mike and Jules and said goodbye. After our tour, we drove over to the lookout at the point to watch the sunset. It was gorgeous! read more

This guided mountain bike ride exceeded all my expectations. I booked it over the phone with Maggie, and was picked up by Laura, my instructor, at my hotel in Moab. Laura had picked a route for our ride to match up with my skill level and what I was looking for. At the trailhead, Laura introduced me to the 2018 Trek I would be riding, and did a few exercises for warm up and skill assessment. Then we hit the trail for a day of epic riding. My instructor was not only an expert rider and knowledgeable of the area, but also trained in first aid. This came in handy when I went over the bars on a downhill section and sustained some minor injuries. She patched me up and I was back on the bike to finish out the day. This trip was literally the most fun I've ever had on a bike. I can't wait to come back! I'll definitely be using Magpie again when I do. read more

Then he gave us some solid pointers and coaching on mountain biking, safety, and fun. His goal was to have a smiling the whole day and he succeeded. Andy at Magpie took my family out for a great morning ride near Moab. We range in experience from fairly frequent adult biker to 10 year old trail novice. Andy taught us all something new, and I was amazed at the trail that everyone was able to manage after his fun training. As a bonus, our ride took us to a set of dinosaur tracks. I ran out of water on White Rim because of some issues with our reserves. We were doing the ride in a day. The Magpie crew came to our rescue by letting us have some of their water. I was out. Not a good situation to be in with 25 miles to go. We didn't visit long, but they look like a very buttoned up and pro outfit. I'd love to come back and tour with them. We joined Maggie and Kathy for four days of the White Rim Trail. The trip was magical and Magpie found the perfect balance of being there and not being there. The food was excellent and gluten free. The only thing we felt seemed lacking was some shade but we are advised that they are working on outfitting their rig to include just that. Where's that wealthy benefactor when you need one! Maggie set up a perfect tour for us. It was challenging (especially for me who was the least fit of the group) and educational (as much as you want it to be) and safe. My boyfriend and I had a wonderful private tour with Maggie. She is passionate about the surrounding nature/wildlife and the history of Moab, and you are guaranteed to have a memorable experience. We rode the slick rock trail and, as beginners, learned a ton. Maggie took the time to custom fit our bikes perfectly at Poison Spider bikes, and once out on the trail we felt like we were floating on them (there is a light feel to a full-suspension mountain bike). Mike picked us up from our hotel both mornings. We spent about an hour the first morning with some skills review. I've been riding 20 years and I found this to be very helpful. Mike is super personable and so knowledgeable. We then shuttled to Mag 7. He set a great pace. It was the BEST day I ever had on a mountain bike. The next day we road Whole Enchilada (except for Burrito Pass). Again Mike set the perfect pace for us. He helped with some skills. There were areas that I would never tried to ride if it wasn't for his guidance and encouragement. I could not recommend Magpie or Mike any higher. After 3 day tours, I can't believe what I am riding and it's all to do with Maggie and how comfortable she makes you feel about your skill level and what your skill level could be. She's a great coach, cheerleader and, as importantly, an ambassador for the destination. She's chalk-full of riding tips, technical information, Moab historical, geological and biological information--as much or as little as you want. A few bruises (okay and a couple of cactus kisses) but more smiles and many memories. I'd hire her again in a heartbeat, no matter how accomplished I was. Recently completed a 2 day guide with Maggie and her team. I cant say enough for professionalism (on time, prepared, training, food, safety), in all areas they were very comprehensive. Maggie is also an ambassador to the area given her 20+ years as a resident. She is also a biologist by training so her knowledge of the area, ecosystem and rich history adds context/depth to every new area we explored. She also helped me bring my son (got the flu) to the urgent care in short order...it was a personal touch that I wont forget.
