I just finished my family's FIFTH trip with Western Spirit. It has always been a treat and fantastic experience. ALWAYS. On several levels: MANAGEMENT: The folks are easy to speak to, one-on-one and very responsive. They'll take care of any unique needs you might have. They just want to get it right. This is a very service-oriented team. GUIDES: every single one of the guides we've had has had some sort of "get 'er done" training. My goodness -- they wake up so early and hep with EVERYTHING: tents, food and cooking, bike repair, ideas for fun in town, and of course how to best ride! -- anything and everything. DA FOOD : OMG THE FOOD IS SO GOOD. This is gourmet eating, breakfast, lunch and dinner. And coffee and cold cereal available before the main hot breakfast, and appetizers before dinner! What the heck??? Oh, and there are endless snacks available. Don't bring any snacks! I thought with all the exercise I was going to get, I would lose weight! These guys won't let that happen with all the great food they throw at you... :) SPECIALITY REQUESTS: My family is vegan, and the guides go above and beyond to make sure that not only was there plenty of vegan options available, but to make sure that no one else ate the vegan food before my family finished it. They also were very good about not cross-contaminating -- a HUGE plus. SO, if you have ANY dietary or allergy restrictions, you feel totally safe. GREAT FOR FAMILY BONDING: They understand that some kids and adults are slower than others. They meet everyone at their level -- whatever that might be. My youngest one was a bit slower than the other kids on the trail, but he was the youngest in the group and never felt out of place and left behind. The guides were awesome with him. TRAILS, BIKING SKILLS, EXERCISE AND FUN: Your riding will improve massively on these trails, which are epic and beautiful. The guides choose the very best trails, and they are AWESOME. There are never ending other fun things to do (depending on the trip): hikes and tubing, or just goofing around in camp with kids' stuff and games and stories. You will be amazed how much exercise you will get and not even know it! The fun factor here is also great. really great. They are prepared for everything: sunscreen, snacks. took kits and repair stuff, lights -- everything. Will I do yet another Western Spirit trip next year? Yes, for sure. The challenge is which one? Recently finished a White Rim Trail adventure with Western Spirit. It was absolutely amazing. Customer service answered all of my questions on multiple phone calls, the guides (Rob and Ben) were helpful, knowledgable and enthusiastic and the meals they made were better than what I make at home. I have to just comment on the people at Western Spirit Cycling. They are so knowledgeable about cycling (as they should be) but they are also some of the nicest and accommodating people that you would ever want to meet. If you are looking to do a bike trip, but don't have much experience, they will steer you toward a trip that will suit your riding skill and style. Believe me, they have bike trips for just about anyone. There is no attitude - just a genuine enthusiasm for cycling and putting together the best cycling trips possible. We just returned home from the vacation of a lifetime - the White Rim cycling tour. We could not have asked for more beautiful scenery, fun or adventure! Our guides, Matt and Tanisha, were FANTASTIC!! Not only did they guide us through all sorts of conditions (we experienced a little rain and mud) but they provided bike maintenance, cooked great meals, and kept us in great spirits throughout the trip. Whether you are an experienced mountain bike rider, or if you've never ridden a mountain bike before but are in good shape (able to do 15-25 miles per day), do not hesitate to book this trip! It was my first time on a mountain bike, but we rented bikes from them and they are built for the landscape you'll encounter. The ride was very safe and offered the most spectacular views of Canyonlands National Park. Be sure to pack everything on the list, and have a day pack large enough to throw rain gear in case of inclement weather. We can not WAIT to take another trip with Western Spirit! read more

Outerbike Crested Butte 2018 was a major disappointment. If you are considering whether or not to go to Outerbike, your decision is as easy as the size of bike you ride. If you ride a small, medium or XL, you will be able to demo any bike you want all day long. If you ride a large, do not attend Outerbike. There will be 10 riders to 1 bike and you will not get to ride. All day Friday, I got to demo two bikes, one of which I didn't want to ride, but there was nothing else. For the entire event, I had pegged 5 bikes I wanted to ride. I got to ride ONE for ONE lap. I followed Outerbike's rules: Please be considerate of other Outerbike attendees. If you need a bike for more than a test ride (1-2 hours), please rent a bike at a local shop. I turned in the bike before I grabbed lunch and did not get to ride for the remainder of Friday. There were no bikes. Other attendees were keeping the bikes because they knew they would not get to ride if they turned the bike in. Riders came in from their runs, parked the bikes next to the mess tent, ate the provided lunch and went back out on the same bikes I could have had a chance to demo. Outerbike did nothing to enforce this rule, despite dozens of bikes parked around the mess tent which is right next to the check in table. The situation was bad enough that Pivot reps made their way to the lifts in order to try to get the bikes back. It rained on Saturday morning. Nothing major, typical of Crested Butte and all of the manufacturers refused to send their bikes out. I hung out in the mess tent, waited for the rain to stop. Sun shining, attendees standing around, bikes are still not going out.' The same line was used at every booth. "We're waiting until it dries up." Why? Because they don't want to have to wash the bikes. I'm not making this up. This is literally what they told us. Fezzari was the first to send out bikes. Their bikes were gone instantly. Orbea was next, but all they had were 29'ers. I got in line anyway, bikes gone. Transition next, same thing. A customer was at the Pivot booth, expressed frustration at having paid to demo bikes but Pivot won't send their bikes out. The Pivot rep responded, "We paid to be here too and we paid a lot more than you." I am not making this up and this pissed me off. Without riders, there's no reason for Pivot to be there. Pivot finally sends their bikes out, all the large bikes snapped up. I walked laps around the event space for HOURS trying to find a bike to ride. I finally gave in and took the one large that no one else wanted. A 120mm Scott Spark. On a downhill course. Guess how much fun that was? It wasn't. It sucked. A large Ibis HD4 finally became available Saturday afternoon around 2pm. The Ibis rep tells me, "So long as you agree not to take the bike to the bike park, you can ride it. No lift access." By this time, it hadn't been raining for hours. The Scott Spark was literally the only bike I got to ride on Saturday. There were dozens of bikes available, so long as you're not 6 feet tall. It was extremely frustrating to walk by all the tents, see dozens of bikes sitting around, but it's 4 small, 4 medium and 1-2 XLs. If you have a rule about bikes being demo only, you need a way to enforce that rule. Sign-up sheets need to be implemented. This event was horribly run. Nearly $290~ for a demo pass, $80~ for a social pass for my wife. The food provided was mediocre. They had a "beer garden". Their version of a beer garden was a 45 minute line to get half a plastic cup of warm grapefruit lager. We tossed it in the trash and left to go eat and drink at a local restaurant. In all, I got to ride less than one hour for the entire event and the social pass was utterly pointless. Western Spirit events? NEVER. AGAIN. read more

We finished the White Rim Trail with guides John and Matt. The fantastic trip exceeded expectations. The support, professionalism, and especially the freshly prepared meals from quality ingredients were fantastic. We will return for another trip. read more

We did an early spring tour of Canyonlands that was unforgettable. The weather was erratic but our guides saw to our comfort through wind, rain, hail and blessed sunshine. The food was amazingly fresh and delicious through the last day of the five-day tour. The expertise of the guides made what could have been a harrowing ordeal into an adventure of a lifetime. I think it's been over fifteen years ago now but the memories are as sharp and wonderful as if it was just last spring. I have no doubt that Western Spirit has only honed their act to perfection since then. While the tour wasn't inexpensive, it was the most bang for the buck you can imagine. First class roughing it would be my description. None of the photos below do justice to the spectacular scenery, nor do they capture the camp camaraderie that the guides so skillfully engendered. read more

Spent 5 days with three of the most amazing, fun guides from Western Spirit. We traveled the Kokopelli trail from outside of Fruita to Moab on mountain bikes. "Boomtown", "Hoss", and "Whiskey Neck" were nothing short of fantastic! They kept us laughing, motivated, hydrated, and most importantly, well-fed. Their enthusiasm and energy were absolutely contagious throughout the trip. Five stars is the highest but they truly deserve at least 5 extra stars! Western Spirit ROCKS!! read more

Took the Bryce to Zion trip in early August, and it was AMAZING. Exceeded expectations on all counts. From the very beginning, when we were signing up for the trip, we were impressed by the friendliness and patience (we had a lot of questions) of the staff. The entire trip was incredibly well organized - we packed according to the packing list and barely had to think about anything from the time we boarded the van in St. George. All of our needs were anticipated and provided for every step of the way - food, water, first aid, rest, etc - and we didn't have to do any thinking or planning, we could just get on our bikes and go. The trip itself was incredible - we tackled a good variety of trails, from dirt roads, to single tracks - and was a great way to push ourselves to try new, more adventurous biking while still feeling safe and well-briefed on any obstacles, etc. Of course, you can't beat the US West for awe-inspiring landscapes, so everywhere we went we were treated to beautiful scenery and amazing views. We were a bit worried that there would be too much or too little biking on any given day, but the guides mixed things up enough so that we were never feeling over taxed or bored. The trip had a great balance of activity, with just enough downtime at camp - it is a vacation, after all. Our guides were great - fun, knowledgeable, and all-around awesome. We'll definitely be going on another trip, and would recommend Western Spirit to all of our friends! read more

We just came back from an incredible family mountain biking trip with Western Spirit in Idaho. Our guides did a great job of instructing our kids on technical points of mountain bike riding and had them riding single track in no time. The rides each day were interesting, especially because the scenery and terrain changed from day to day. The kids had so much fun on the trip that they never complained about riding 17 miles a day. The kids also loved the games and toys that were in the support van, as well as the swimming and campfires at the campsite. Our guides were wonderful hosts and very accommodating to the needs of everyone in our group. The guides were also fantastic cooks and were totally professional and organized. The company does a great job of helping you pick out a trip that matches your level and clearly communicates what gear you need to bring for the trip. This is a superbly run company that delivers an amazing, high quality outdoor vacation experience! read more
