This place has been open for quite a while. I've never tired it because come on it's flushing, you don't go here for eggs and bacon for breakfast or Italian food for dinner. I had family visiting so we came here for breakfast on a Sunday. Man I was pleasantly surprised! I had the American breakfast which had eggs, toast, hash browns and your choice of meat, I had bacon. Eggs over medium were perfect, bacon was super crispy as I requested and the hash browns were amazingly fried! Service was also quite good. They even gave a bit of extra food for my babies. Who knows why the low ratings for breakfast? The breakfast buffet was excellent in my opinion. Wide variety: well scrambled eggs, tasty breakfast meats, crispy hashbrowns, yummier than expected french toast, pastry displays, delicious pasta and a salad bar?! At least that's what I had. There was also oatmeal & fruits & deli meats lol. The servers offered fresh brewed coffee and it was delicious enough to enjoy black. Shout outs to the workers who were very welcoming and kept the buffet stocked. No complaints. This restaurant is just like the Clearview Expressway, it's the best kept secret in Queens. The staff here were welcoming and made us feel at home. The food is absolutely delicious. I had the salad that is made with... red onion gelato! That's right, red onion gelato and when it's mixed with the salad, it's the best thing I ever ate. The shrimp in the salad was absolutely freaking delicious. My husband had a Caesar Salad and the dressing alone is so good and thick, you can dip your bread in it. When it comes to the dessert, get the cannoli! It's so good. If you are in the mood for a restaurant with good food and atmosphere, Magna Restaurant is for you! I stumbled in here for breakfast since my hotel didn't have a restaurant. What a cozy little spot! The waitstaff was so friendly. And, the create-your-own omelette was perfect in every way!! A huge breakfast with toast and hash browns. I was so happy to find Magna. read more

Magna is a lovely Italian restaurant that seems to be out of place in the heart of busy Flushing, Queens with its abundance of Asian eateries. I was so surprised to stumble upon an Italian gem of a restaurant just a 15 minute walk from downtown Flushing. Magna is a beautiful restaurant with authentic Italian dishes and decor. It is perfect for date night, formal lunches and dinners, family and corporate gatherings. I can see people throwing baby showers, engagement dinners, and events of some sort in their dining area in the back. There is a space that looks like it could fit up to 50 guests, separated with wall dividers, and decorated with an event planner. Every dish was presented nicely and shareable. The cannoli is a must get dessert. You might even want that before any appetizers or entrees. The calamari is what you expect as the OG fried rings with tentacles served with marinara sauce. The seafood pasta had too many olives that overpowered the entire dish. The pizza could have been a little crispier so you can tell the server to leave it in the oven a bit longer but overall decent Italian sliced pizza. There were specials of the day menu items that I will most likely lean towards ordering when I return in the future. read more

I'm in the bridal party for my friend's upcoming wedding and we decided to host her bridal shower at Magna. Originally, they promised us the back nook, so that it was semi private. It didn't work out and they gave us a large table on the side, which worked out. They pretty much let us use half the restaurant, set up a separate table for us to place the cake/cupcakes/guestbook (note - $3 plating fee per person if you bring your own cake), and even helped us hang our decorations (shout out to Fabio!) We decided to order a few dishes and serve it family style. Everything was great. This is what we had: Caesar Salad (romaine lettuce, croutons, reggiano cheese with classic Caesar dressing) Calamari Fritti (crisp fried calamari with garlic marinara sauce) - perfectly fried Sfizi all'Italiana (freshly sliced prosciutto, mortadella, capicola, fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, provolone, roasted peppers) - my only complaint was that there was no prosciutto (like the menu had described), but overall not bad. Rigatoni alla Vodka (rigatoni pasta in pink vodka sauce) - this was my fave. I love a good pasta a la vodka. Spaghetti alla Carbonara (spaghetti with italian bacon, parmesan, and poached eggs) - this was pretty good too but also a bit heavy Risotto ai Frutti di Mare (risotto served with clams, mussels, calamari, shrimp) - they gave a good amount of seafood Pollo alla parmigiana (breaded chicken breast topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella) - chicken was cooked perfectly For drinks, we had asked about bringing our own bottles of wine but then they wanted to charge us a ridiculous corkage fee of $35 per bottle. We ended up just ordering four bottles of wine (for 14 people) for the table, which was the perfect amount. It was also cheaper than paying the corkage fee. Overall, it was a nice space for a bridal shower (also because no one was really there while our party was going on). However, I'd only recommend it if you have a small group. Had been wanting to try this place out for a while and always wondered what this place was like inside. Cute interior. Friendly staff. We were the first customers gor Saturday lunch. After ordering, it turned out the pizza maker was not coming in, so we weren't able to order any of the pizzas on the menu. Although they offer an enticing lunch prix-fixe, we ended up ordering a lasagna and a spinach tomato spaghetti. The food was good, but it didn't blow our minds, and was a little pricey for what we got. Maybe if we had tried one of their entrees or specials... Honestly, it pains me to give this place a 3 star but this is my honest opinion. CUSTOMER SERVICE Not that there was anything wrong with the customer service, they were very polite, however, they were also very slow. On the day we visited, i noticed only one server working, but later increased to 2-3. Because there was only one server, the customer service was really slow and you could tell the waiter was very busy taking care of business left and right. Towards the closing of the store, the servers increased but i overheard from the server that they actually weren't servers. They were probably employees from the kitchen or hotel next door helping out. Theres just not enough servers FOOD My boyfriend and I were really excited to try this place. Its Italian near the heart of main Street which we found unusual and considered a rare find, so of course we had to try it! We read reviews beforehand and thought we'd give it a go. However when we received our food, my initial reaction was that the portion sizes were very small... especially for the price we're paying. It took me perhaps 5 minutes to finish my food. The complimentary bread was very good though, even though it came late. My tomato sauce was a bit too sour for me and it just wasn't to my liking. Although the spaghetti was al dente and not bad at all. The meatballs were dense and yummy but kind of dry. . . Overall: Nice Server, but Slow Service. Food was medicore. Great little Italian restaurant tucked in the heart of Flushing. I love that this place takes reservations on Opentable. The restaurant does not have a cocktail menu but the waiter was great and concocted a fruity prosecco drink for me. This is the hotel restaurant. During our meal, most of the other patrons were from a Russian tour group who had their meals as part of a package. Everyone came down and checked off a pre-approved list as part of their package. For us, we ordered the pear salad, risotto and veal. The arugula in the pear salad was not very fresh and so we did not like the salad very much. The risotto was good but could have been cheesier. This place obviously doesn't care to make money. I walked in at 8:45 PM, supposedly they close at 10:30 PM, and told them it was just myself for dinner. The waiter quickly disappeared to the kitchen I believe then came out and informed me I could only order take out. I looked around the room and there was a family of four seated and another table with one woman seated, they all appeared to be waiting for their meals. I asked why "Take out only for me?" his response was they were closing at 9:00 PM, which is not their posted hours. At this time it was 8:50 PM which I pointed out to them but insisted I could only order take out. I have never been to a restaurant that didn't seat you while they were still open during their business hour. I took my money else where and highly suggest anyone else avoid this place. read more

What a great discovery!!! This restaurant is a hidden gem in Flushing attached to the Marco Hotel. Service was impeccable and Fabio was very welcoming and helpful with our orders! I went here for our anniversary thinking my meal would be splendid but I only found the antipasto fresh and delicious, bread was cold not freshly baked my salmon was drenched in a sauce taking away the flavor of the salmon and even my husband dish was not what we expected, if your looking for delicious Italian food try Cascarinos in whitestone or villagios in whitestone there bread is warm and fresh all the entrees have a fresh savory taste. I happened to find this restaurant based on reviews last minute Saturday night. Boy were they right.... We were a group of 7 ladies and we all enjoyed it very much. The attention was one of the best I have experienced lately at a restaurant, the food was amazing from the appetizers to the desserts. The restaurant itself it's beautiful and very inexpensive. it's part of the hotel so the lobby is beautiful -great for pictures. Our waiter Roberto made sure we felt like princesses in a royal palace! I will Definitely go back again. You would not think you can find this place in the middle of flushing. Ok. First off, make reservations. This apparently was the thing you need to do to eat here although we were sat even though no reservations. Ambiance is nice. This is real italian and employees are clearly old school Italian. Burrata and grilled zucchini is amazong appetizer. Pasta doshes were a little on the small side. Eggplant was a bit chewy. I'm not the type of person who would leave reviews, but I thought it was importan for me to say this: I asked for pasta with pesto and shrimp. When it gets to me, it's cold. I understand, that fresh pesto is usually cold and that you can't cook it, nonetheless, the pasta and shrimp were fairly cold too, nothing too crazy though, just a little bit... The problem with all this is that the server, an Italian gentleman who at first seemed very likable, got really angry at me when I pointed the issue with the cold pasta. He screamed at me and insisted that I was wrong and that I was trying to insult/deceive him. That's not the type of service I expect at any restaurant, specially when I'm being polite and only brought the matter up as a constructive opinion. As per the the food, it was alright. read more

This restaurant definitely gives off a real Italian feel as does the food. It's genuine, it's tasty, it's everything you can expect in an old fashioned Italian meal and more. The waiters were also very helpful and displayed excellent service with recommendations and repeated visits to see if my party was being accommodated in every way possible. Their calamari was above average as it had some crispness to it but not over the top. Their 'Pollo Fiorentina' was excellent and had the perfect amount of spinach and mozzarella cheese to accompany the chicken. They have a great selection of wine and beer, most notably Peroni as the highlight of their brews. The chocolate cake was delicious however it seemed to be too much on the sweet side. As someone who lives near Flushing, you might not expect a top notch Italian restaurant in the midst of the Chinese scenery but this is the place where you should stop by if you want exceptional Italian food. For a middle-end hotel restaurant, Magna is a decent restaurant with Italian fare, located in the Marco hotel in Flushing. The ambiance here is okay. They seem to try and be Italian, and only half-way succeeding. It was very spacious, with clever tables that could be converted to seat more people. I wouldn't necessarily go here for a romantic date though, there's a steady stream of people coming in and out the doors (most likely pilots and flight attendants) picking up food during dinner time. We started off with the calamari appetizer. The calamari was tender, but although the batter was crispy, it was somewhat tasteless. The marinara sauce deserves praise however, it was sweet without being tart. Entrees: Meat Tortellini in an Alfredo sauce with prosciutto and peas - good. I suspect the tortellini isn't homemade. As with any Italian pasta dish, this dish gets heavy after awhile. The prosciutto was sparse and peas plentiful. Veal in a whiskey sauce - the rest of the table loved it, but I wasn't partial to it due to the strong taste of whiskey. Veal was tender, and the fruit (apple or mango?) was a nice complement. Overall, very good. Homemade long pasta with pesto and shrimp - the idea of homemade pesto pasta was pretty awesome. This dish needs some reworking in execution though. The pasta needed to be cut shorter to facilitate in easier consumption. More oil and perhaps sea salt needed to be added the dish as well, since the pasta was a bit dry and slightly bland tasting. The shrimp however, was spot on. Crisp, succulent, and fresh. Cheese Ravioli in Marinara Sauce - spot on. This dish is very filling. Again, the marinara sauce was perfect - sweet, but not tart. Dessert: Tiramasu - ergh, don't get this. This is more cake than real tiramasu. There was a huge absence of cheese. Truffle Ice Cream - Great presentation. Vanilla and chocolate ice cream frozen into a ball, with a maraschino cherry in the center, covered in a thin chocolate shell. If you're going to get dessert, this is the one to go for. Overall, not bad, and wouldn't mind coming here for a meal with friend or family staying at the hotel. read more

Unless you are staying at the Marco hotel (attached to the restaurant), this is a hidden gem! Don't let the location fool you. It's a diamond in the rough of Chinatown. My wife found Magna on OpenTable and we also saw it on Yelp. Great reviews on both. So we gave it a try and we were not disappointed! First I want to give kudos to Fabio our waiter. He was extremely accommodating and catered our meals to our taste. We started with the Pera salad. Since my wife is a vegetarian and doesn't like Gorgonzola cheese, we had it and the chopped bacon in small dishes on the side. The salad was not big (hey it was only $7) but enough for two people as an appetizer. Next up was our entrees. I ordered the special - chicken w/ asparagus. It was covered in a light white sauce and paired with a couple of broccoli florets, sliced cooked carrots, and some small white roasted potatoes. The veggies were fairly plain but the chicken was really good. Not too heavy, not too much. Just perfect for me. My wife got another special - Rigatoni alla Norman. It has diced eggplant and fresh mozzarella in a red sauce. She's never had it and she likes her usual dishes, so she ate some of it and we took the rest home. I recently had the pleasure of eating at this restaurant. The food was absolutely outstanding. I have eaten at many fine restaurants in Manhattan, and I can assure you that the food quality has it beat a mile. The preparation of the food is old school using the finest quality products money can buy. Now let us focus on the service. The waiters were extremely attentive to our requests, they kept our glasses filled with water, and also kept refiling our wine glasses. The place is IMMACULATE. The restrooms are spotless. You can see that great care is taken to keep this place in Pristine Condition. The beautiful part is the restaurant is connected to the hotel, making that a great feature in inclement weather. so, in conclusion if you want an old fashioned super delicious italian meal this DEFINATELY the place to go to. read more

If I hadn't checked the message on my hotel room phone, I wouldn't have known that there was a free glass of wine offered with my dinner . . . and that's what drew us down to the restaurant. The cherry on top? A 10% discount on our bill because we were guests of the Marco LaGuardia hotel. Not bad marketing techniques to attract guests to try Italian food in a neighborhood dominated by Asian restaurants. The food itself was quite delicious for the price; we shared an appetizer of mussels in house marinara sauce, which was devoured in minutes. We then had classic Italian dishes - I tried the veal Florentina and the bf had spaghetti carbonara, both of which were quite delectable. Of course, we had to indulge in dessert, too, so we opted for the classic chocolate cake with mousse filling. It was pretty tasty - the frosting wasn't heavy and the strawberry flower was a nice touch. We ended up ordering a second round of drinks after the free wine - another glass of cabernet for the bf and a glass of prosecco for me. The prosecco was just a tad too sweet for my taste; I think they have multiple varieties. The service was very good; our waiter was amicable and knowledgeable - he shared some recommendations of where to go after dinner (the beer garden!) and made sure everything was to our liking. Great find ! Truth be told, I was recommended to try this place by my hotel and they even offered to shuttle us there. I was skeptical but had a few of us so figured I would try it after checking out the reviews. Dare I say it might be my new staple when I come here for work now!? A few mins after we sat down, they brought us out bruschetta. Delicious and fresh ! Then they also brought out bread that I did not try. I ordered eggplant rollatini and penne vodka. Both delicious! But watch out, the portions are huge! I ate a few bites of pasta by sheer will because I was so stuffed from the eggplant and bruschetta. It was delicious though! This restaurant deserves 5 stars for the fresh and quality of food it serves. I had the Linguini alle Vongole which was superb, my friends had the Bistecca alla Griglia(medium rare) and Pollo alla Magna. Everything was delicious and we cleaned our plates. Try their dessert menu, we shared Tiramisu and Cannoli. It's a gem of a place tucked inside an Asian community. The restaurant is part of Marco hotel on Northern Blvd. Another reason for giving 5 starts was the awesome service. Barbra was our server,and she was absolutely the best.
