Buyer beware: Service is horrendous - owner literally snapped at me when I requested a smaller size and decided against purchasing. Extremely aggressive sales tactic - not at all an enjoyable experience. Ugh. I'll add my review to the list of reviews of comments about pushy salespeople, just to let anyone considering shopping here know definitively that they should skip this place. I wasted $200 on a jacket that hangs on my frame like a scarecrow. When I expressed doubts about the fit, the salespeople assured me that it fit me perfectly and I looked great. The sizing seemed right, so I only realized my mistake after I got home and wore it a couple of times. I also bought a $100 shirt here and it was super shoddy quality and is already pilled and has a hole in it after only 4 months wear. Normally I would return these items, but guess what? If you accept their 10% discount that they push on you, you can't return things! Their conduct is totally unprofessional and disgraceful. read more

Maggie handpicks her handstitched Italian shoes. I am extremely picky about the shoes and clothes I buy, I can never find anything I like. So, I was shoe shopping since the heels I wear to work were about to wear through the toe. I walked into Maggie's and the first pair I laid eyes on were the pair for me. Gorgeous mottled brown Italian handstitched heels with a closed toe and sort of asymmetrical indentations. Unique, quality, perfect. I flipped over the shoe to look at the price. Eeek, when I do like something it's generally one of the most expensive things in the store. So I tried on the perfect shoes, made noises about coming back "tomorrow", and left to mull it over. I finally convinced myself that I was allowed to have the perfect expensive shoes and came back (two days later) only to discover that they are closed on Sundays! I was more distraught than one should be over a pair of shoes (first world problems) as I headed back up to Vancouver. Back in Van I went directly to another Italian shoe store, but nothing could compare. I called Maggie & she remembered me! She knew exactly the shoes and size and she went out of her way to ship them to me. I paid postage instead of Washington state tax & it evened out perfectly. So if you want quality, (expensive), hand-selected Italian shoes, and excellent service - go see Maggie. read more

This little store is wonderful (5 Stars) because of the huge selection of Trippen shoes - one of my favorite brands. But the service was annoying; thus the 3-star rating. The saleswoman discerned that I was interested in Trippen as I asked to try a few on, then she just kept pushing more and more on me. This didn't stop when I told her that some styles did not appeal to me. She even brought out a size too small of a shoe I liked instead of saying that it was not in stock. She told me that at least 10 shoes were "best sellers", which surely can't be true and I really didn't care what sold well and what did not. In the end, I purchased one pair that I initially requested and will go back for the selection when I am in Seattle, but this shouldn't have been so stressful. read more

There didn't really seem to be a common thread between all the items, it felt more like consignment until I saw the price tags. Lovely shoes, and they really do last forever, as well as being beautiful. I am fashion-impaired, so whenever I'm in Seattle I stop by here for help. The staff is so friendly, and even taught me how to tie a scarf! They will try to sell to you, but only things that honestly suit you. Maggie and her sales associates waited on me & a friend literally hand and foot last week while we tried on every pair of Trippen shoes in the store (so many). We were really annoying; it took us over an hour, and I was nauseous with a shameful hangover, but they gave me three bottles of sparkling water, including their own, and let me lay on the divan like a dying queen. They laced and tied all my shoes for me & insisted! (I was so embarrassed.) They also helped us decide which shoes were right for us. It's Maggie's 31st Anniversary! DO NOT shop here. I was RIPPED OFF by the ladies of this store!!!! I came in because I saw they had a sale on shoes, which as the prior reviews are correct, they have very lovely, expensive Italian shoes. They happen to have boots on sale as well as clothing on a rack that was marked 40% off. Since I was in the market for a raincoat I found one off the 40% rack for $390. I also tried on several other pieces of clothing and shoes and ended up with quite the haul. After the ladies totaled up my purchases the final amount was quite large and I didn't think much of it, expect they had done all the calculations by hand. . . . . . .This should have been my first warning sign! When I got home I started to look at the price tags on the clothes and compare with the receipt and I discovered everything that had been on the 40% rack, had been 'remarked' to a higher price and then the 40% had been taken off. My $390 coat which in my head I had estimated to have cost ~$235 after 40% off had been remarked to be $590. . . . You could still see the 3 behind the 5!!!! They then charged me $354 for the coat!!! I don't know what kind of shady practices are going on here, but remarking up tags at the time of purchase is completely dishonest and unacceptable. I would never in a million years shop here ever again. If you choose to, be careful and bring your own calculator! read more

Poor business practices, poor quality clothing, extreme sales pressure, inflated prices. Don't shop here!! I visited the store with my sister-in-law and bought a cute, rather expensive dress. The shop women kept hovering around and chirping they would discount the price - 10%. When I got home and examined my dress, I found construction flaws and returned to the store the next day to exchange or return the dress. The shop women said the sale was FINAL because of the 10% discount. Huh?? No returns or exchanges for shoddy merchandise, despite the fact that tags were still on the dress and it hadn't been worn. A decorative stitch seam on the cute top my sister-in-law purchased started unraveling the first time she wore it. This item was of poor quality as well. You can find cute, better quality clothes elsewhere for better prices! The merchandise is attractive but poorly made. read more

The shoes at Maggie's get a 5! In particular, Maggie's is the only place in town that carries the Trippen brand at all ... and the collection here is extensive. These shoes just are expensive, that's the way it is ladies, but I have to ding Maggie's on price when they are selling a boot at a "10% discount" for $350 ... which is $40 more than Ped's regular price. Now, on to the service and general vibe at this place ... which is strange indeed. Here you are in a store with fabulous, beautiful, expensive shoes ... yet the overall experience is Discounty/SuperMallish. Bright lights, stuff inartfully arranged and talk radio blaring the whole time you are there. Yep. Blaring. Weird. And, the salesperson is pushy ... the second you walk in, she's working you to 'try them on' ... some might not mind this, but I find it annoying to shop under 'pressure' It's a tiny shop. Let me know you're there to help, turn down the radio ... and give me some space to enjoy these great shoes! I just might splurge and buy something. read more

Buyer beware! In addition to all the other comments about aggressive and unprofessional conduct, Maggie has figured out that she can do whatever she wants in terms of rude unprofessional conduct because the fine print on the bottom of the receipt you sign says "No Returns on Sale Items." By sale items apparently she means any kind of discount whatsoever that she negotiates or offers. Even if it is not on sales rack, even if she never says "this is a final sale" -- Maggie is extremely aggressive about refusing to refund purchases. In my case, the $385 item (Trippen Shoes) was on a regular shelf, she offered 10% off, then when I tried to return the shipped UNOPENED shoes back right away with USPS, she refused them. It should not matter that this very very small line under the signature warns about returns, it is not absolutely unacceptable that unopened, unworn, immediately returned shoes were rejected. So BEWARE, Maggie's Shoes operates so far from the respect and service one would expect at such a "quality" shoe store, I am frankly surprised Trippen allows her to represent them in the United States. Even if that small print "technically" gets Maggie off the hook, it should be an embarrassment to Trippen. It was only AFTER the sale that the salesgirl added to the bottom of both receipts the words FINAL SALE and set out the math explaining the shipping cost etc. But the credit card company sided with Maggie because of the very tiny line printed at the bottom of each receipt. Furthermore, Maggie fabricated, in a letter to Trippen that I called her shop the Tuesday after Memorial Day weekend, "mentioning her husband is chewing her off about the shoe being too expensive. If she asked me politely that my husband does not want me to buy the shoe and cannot afford it, then I am more than happy to refund her. Now she is twisting the facts around and acussing me for all the bad thing which is not true. This is attitude problem, does not have respect any body, especially small business." I never said anything on the phone about my husband, and I simply called the store to let them know I had sent the unopened package back via USPS and see if the store needed help locating my information to refund my credit card. Maggie herself did not call me until much later in the process, and then only to berate me for trying to destroy her business. Meanwhile, it is absolutely clear she does not adopt the well known mantra -- the customer is always right. In her case, Maggie is always right. It is too bad she came down so hard on a simple return. She knew I was tentative when buying the shoe and never said -- are your sure, you know this will be a Final Sale and you cannot change your mind. Instead, she insisted the shoe fit and offered a 10% discount. She also accused me of threatening her because I contacted the Trippen distributor in Europe and said I would write a Yelp review! Too bad some great brands are offered by such a poor customer service establishment. I hope that Maggie changes her ways before the negative reviews continue to mount and the Better Business Bureau receives complaints, but I am not hopeful. read more

I have been going to Maggie's shoes for three years. I just happened upon this unique boutique that has merchandise that I haven't found anywhere else in the United States. I travel for a living and found the shoes extremely fashionable and comfortable for being on my feet most of my working time. I find Maggie and her staff refreshing...she definately likes her products and enjoys educating you about her products! I just had a great experience at Maggie's. I stopped in last week to see what they had for spring/summer, and while browsing mentioned that one the Trippens I bought last year now made a funny noise. I was still happy with the shoes and wasn't intending to register a complaint. Well Maggie took it very seriously and took my number, contacted the company, and called me back. The final solution was replacement with a brand new pair exactly like the other. At those prices that's not a casual decision! Yes, the general sales approach might be a little too "helpful" for some (reminds me of my shopping experience in China), but doesn't bother me. I know what I like and can speak out when I need to. And yes, the prices are up there, but the quality and comfort are so good you can wear them a lot and get your per/wear price down. DidI say comfort? With my super high arch and instep that's a challenge - but not at Maggie's, and no need to sacrifice fashion. The sales staff, including the owner, was aggressive and unprofessional. When I called with a complaint, the owner pretended it was not she who I was speaking with and finally copped to it later in the conversation. The website states you will get your shoes in 2-4 days. That was not the case despite having spent $27 for the shipment. And, after spending over $700 there, Maggie charged me more than the actual shipping charges were. She said it was to cover gas money to the post office! Really? Where is the post office.... on the moon? I don't expect that kind of treatment after such a large purchase. Do you really need to make money on shipping? This penny pitching and aggressiveness reduces them in my mind from the potential to be a high end shopping experience to the bargain basement.
