Purchased July Slide sandal that salesperson said would break in easily since they were Italian leather. Wore them for several 10 minute intervals at home on carpet. One hour into first wear, the top of my foot was blistered and bleeding. The owner asked for photos of my foot(!) and sole of shoes before finally agreeing to a store credit. She wrote "breaking in shoes by wearing them can take some time and with several wears the sandals should stretch as the leather is soft enough. We would also recommend putting mole skin on your feet in the area that is rubbing the stitching". Whoa girl, this was by no means my first pair of shoes, condescension is not generosity. Horrible experience, delighted I never have to shop here again in my life. read more

I don't understand the business decisions at this store. My wife bought me a pair of shoes, and after trying them on for barely five minutes, I returned with my family to exchange them for the same pair in a smaller size. The shoes were in pristine condition. Instead of showing even the most basic customer service, the staff refused the exchange, claiming the shoes had been "worn." This was while my entire family--three young daughters included--was in the store, buying three other pairs of shoes. So instead of a simple, common-sense exchange, the store managed to lose not just one sale, but essentially all of my family's future shoe purchases. We'll be buying shoes for the next 15+ years, and it certainly won't be here. If you value fairness, respect, or the most basic understanding of customer loyalty, shop elsewhere. read more

Customer service could have been better. The three young girls behind the counter did not acknowledge or welcome any customers that came in including Mr. All they did was talk amongst themselves. This shoe store is pretty limited in the stock they keep in inventory but they do have a lot of cute shoes on display that are in season every time I visit. I wish the customer service was exemplified with a smile but I guess some people are not meant to work in the customer service industry. Shoes are rarely on sale here (except during the annual sidewalk sale in the summer) but prices are usually listed as the retail prices you'll find elsewhere in store. I brought a family member here years ago to try on some Merrells and it was not a good experience - we left feeling pressured to buy, which we did, but it wasn't a great experience. I try not to let that cloud my return visits to this store, but I also keep my expectations low so I'm not disappointed. read more

Beware of their advertising. Signs on the store front indicate 30% off. No small print etc. Go thru the hassle of finding a size available and when you get to the till, major sticker shock when you find out it's only the tiny section at the back that is 30% off. And beware of finding shoes in these sections as if the stock is mixed up, it's apparently only the shoes with the small dot that are discounted. I've always liked shopping at this store, but am tired of the misleading signage. read more

Food for the sole is right! I wasn't even starved for some foot food but I popped into Sole Food last week just to "take a peek" and wound up spending more money than I'm comfortable admitting. And I don't want my boyfriend to see this! I ended up walking out with new boots, (literally wore 'em out of the store!) a second pair of boots, some socks and a necklace. And it's not that I didn't try to buy purses, wallets, hats, scarves or jackets... I was just running out of money! Ha. But really, everything here is super cute and if you're not careful, you'll end up with a ton of stuff. I even spotted a pair of Camper's that I want to return and buy. I was very excited for several months...to visit this store...and use a coupon I had gotten out of the Chinook Book...for a new pair of Biviels. I had some specific ones in mind because I had bought these ones at this store maybe a year ago. I approached the counter on Monday afternoon. It was a total mistake to visit U Village on Labor Day! Way too many people on foot. Anyway, I went in, asked the clerk at the desk if she could help me find my shoes. She was busy and asked this girl with red hair to help me. I asked her if they still carried the Biviels. She rudely told me, "We haven't had those in here for a whole year." And she WALKED AWAY FROM ME laughing. I questioned writing this review, but I'm still pissed. Not only did I not get my shoes, she didn't want to sell me anything else from her store. Totally disappointing experience and I will NEVER step foot back into this pretentious store! You sell shoes! Get over yourself. The ONLY upside to this store is it's location, because they sit next to L'Occitane. Obviously they stopped carrying good shoes and decent service staff. read more

Went there today during the UVillage sidewalk sale. This is definitely the time to go! 50% OFF!! I have bought several pairs there for my kiddo, but never splurged on anything there for myself (hubby has also bought a pair or two there before as well). I always see stuff I like, but just always seem to be in a hurry. But today as I walked by the piles of shoes on the 50% table, I thought...this is the day. And it was. I bought 2 pair & paid less than I think my kiddos pair cost last time (did we really pay that much for kid's shoes?!) I LOVE BARGAINS! And it is true - it seems like the shoes range from conservative style to funky, but they all have one thing in common - COMFORT. Mostly European shoes (or in the case of mine today, South African)...I guess they just walk more - so they pay attention to that silly little detail. read more

I love shoes. I mean, LOVE. I have a whole wall of shoes in my garage in those clear plastic shoe boxes from the Container Store - that's how dedicated I am to my shoes. If I had to put shoes in my closet, I'd throw out all my clothes. That's dedication (and an obsession) if you ask me. I found Sole Food on a trek across the U-Village with my friends at Holidate. I've never been to that side of the mall. For some reason, I think of edible consumables - food - when I hear the name Sole Food (In fact, I still do.). It's a very cute, corner store with a welcoming display in their window. If I had just walked by, I definitely would have stopped by. It's not the biggest shoe store, but it's got a lot of great selection. They had the "most awesome-est" wall of kids shoes, in fact, this is where I'm going to get my kids their shoes. The women's shoe selection was not too shabby either - I found quite a few pairs to add to my collection. The prices were really reasonable, despite the fact that it was a boutique shop with designer labels (Okay, I didn't find them expensive, but I'm also going the way of Carrie in "Sex in the City.") Definitely a gem. If you're looking for kids shoes, this is the place to go. It's a great place for women's (non-athletic) shoes as well. The staff is friendly and helpful - there was only one girl in the store when we showed up, and she was great about helping everyone quickly and following up with customers. All in all, a great experience - I just wish they had the same adult selection as they did with the children! read more

I've been to Sole Food many times, and own a few pairs of their rather pricey shoes. A few weeks ago, I decided to brave the Sidewalk Sale, which is always veritable zoo of sale-hungry, blood-thirsty women buzzing around a discount rack like a bunch of wasps. It is always something one must venture into after a glass of wine...or two. My friend and I came across Sole Food's table, where there was a 70% off discount on the lowest marked price. Bingo. My friend and I started raking through the mountains of shoes and, lo and behold, there were the red suede Kenneth Cole pumps I had tried on the first day they arrived at Sole Food. Originally priced at $210.00, it was a huge no-go until now....they were $70 ish. Sold, of course. As I was fighting my way through the sea of people into the checkout line, I noticed a lot of black scuff marks/stains on the body of the shoe, and the bottoms of the shoes were already semi-worn from being tried on. I know they sell suede cleaner, or would have advice, or perhaps since the shoes looked second-hand they would be the polite salespeople I have become accustomed to at U. Village, and further mark them down. Ohhhh no. Think again. I get to the register, see my friend who is working there, and hope I get to ring up with her. Wrong again. I get the rudest, most indifferent girl I've ever come across down there. I know it's big sale day, and everyone is frazzled, but...really? Here's how it goes. I tell her about the problems with the shoe, show her, and ask if she has any suggestions or could do something to fix them. She pops off. "Well, considering they're already more than half-off, and on the discount table, I guess you just need to deal with it. And if you actually intend on wearing these shoes, the bottoms are going to look even worse, don't you think?" I was pissed. I said I was simply asking if there was a suede cleaner available for purchase. She replied shortly with, "No. $74.94, please." Bottom line, I don't appreciate attitude when I'm giving you my hard-earned money. Being polite isn't difficult, even when you're stressed. If I hadn't been so attached to the shoes, it would have been a sale-lost, and I'm hoping that she's lost a considerable portion of clientele from that mouth of hers. Beautiful shoes, awesome accessories, and super cool trendy items for women, men and kids. This place inspires me to break out of my comfort zone and do something different. I walk out of the store with my new purchases feeling awesome. Whether it's that amazing bright yellow handbag to welcome spring or those cute black clogs to shuffle around in the fall, this store makes me happy. Also, during the sales I can often find some killer deals. Doc Martens for my girl and SKR for my boy just to start. The staff is attentive and helpful, and great with my kids. Great little shoe store with some interesting styles. Tons of shoes for kids and the ladies, with a more limited selection for guys. Hadn't heard of several of the brands, but that doesn't mean the shoes are particularly rare, just that I'm not a very shoe-fashion-savvy guy. I've had some great luck getting things on sale at various points, which helps make me feel not so guilty, and their recommendations for kids shoes have always worked out. In fact, we usually just buy one pair of shoes/season for our kid and they seem to last long enough for him to grow out of them. Not bad considering how much foot dragging, puddle jumping and mud stomping he does. I also like their selection of kids socks - good quality, nice colors/patterns. Definitely not the cheapest place, but the shoes aren't overpriced either judging by what I've paid at some of the high-end department stores. The sidewalk sale is definitely the time to go - great values. Go early, because once your size is gone, that's it. read more

I was at this store earlier today looking for Birkenstocks primarily because they are leather shoes. after I saw the mens selection my girlfriend picked out a pair of camper kayak shoes good look pretty good and look comfy. after walking around in the store for about 20 minutes with them on and talking with the store employees which were very knowledgeable and helpful I never ended up taking them off. Went up to the register with them on still and payed for them and walk right out the store with them on my feet still it could not be any happier because of their customer service and their patience I would definitely recommend this store anyone looking for a nice pair of shoes. read more

Cute little shop with a nice selection of shoes, boots, socks, tights, and accessories. Service is exceptional. I loved chatting about the bubble run and color run (fun 5k races) with the counter lady. They also give good tips on which brands run up or down a size and are very patient with you trying stuff on until you get the perfect fit. I will go back! Also, the fleece-lined arm-warmers that they have in a basket right now are AMAZING if a bit expensive at $50, iirc. read more

The shoes are way overpriced. You can definitely find them cheaper online. I bought my daughter's shoes there a couple of times because she could at least try them on. But, we were there on Halloween and had a bad experience. While I was deciding on rain boots for her, the woman in the Hook outfit came out of the back with candies and tried to interact with my 2 year old who gave her the cold shoulder. Her colleague told her that my child was just a little shy. She took offense and said she wouldn't give her candy "not with that kind of attitude!" And proceeded to the door shouting that the kids outside were cuter so she's giving them the treats instead. Of course we just left without buying anything. Holding a grudge on a 2 year old? Sadly, my kids have weirdly narrow feet. That pretty much means that I'm forced to pay top dollar for their shoes. I've tried buying cheaper shoes at Target and have tried a few hand me downs from friends and relatives, but eventually they either get blisters, are too uncomfortable to wear despite any begging and bribing on my part or literally fall off their feet when they're running on the playground. Sigh. So Sole Food has become my go to shop for kid shoes. You probably wonder who would spend so much on their kids' shoes? Well, that would be me. With the exception of See Kai Run shoes (which are made for wider feet) nearly all the other children's shoes they carry run a bit more narrow and fit well. They have a good selection for both boys and girls. Primigi and Twig are favorites for my daughter's little feet. Comfortable, well made and stylish. We usually buy one or two pairs for the year and they hold up well. The staff is patient with us and helpful and lets us try as many shoes as we want. If you are smart enough to schedule a haircut at the Kid's Salon across the way you can buy shoes at 20% off. Score! read more

Nice selection of unique styles but poor availability of sizes. For those kinds of prices I would expect some more help when it comes to service (it's a mixed bag). Store is cute, but it's too claustrophobic for me when there are more than a couple of people. Icing on the cake today was the sign in the window that read: "ALL boots on sale - 30% off" (yes the ALL was in caps). I asked about a pair of Hunter boots and was told: "oh, the sale doesn't include rain boots". Well, maybe you should update your sign then? read more

I loved my experience in Sole Food for my first time, friendly staff who let my dog come in while I tried on shoes, major bonus! Great assortment of trendy shoes to try on as well. Unfortunately the pair of shoes I bought had threading coming out exposing the inside of the shoe after only 7 days. I only wore them around my carpeted house trying to break them in for my trip abroad. I called to see if I could exchange for a new pair so I could wear them on my trip, that is after all why I bought them. I was not looking for money back or a different brand of shoe, just a functional pair in exchange. The woman told me no I could not exchange because I wore them around the house and told me to take them to a cobbler. Honestly I expected more from a high end shoe store. I'm extremely disappointed and because of that I had to buy a new pair from Nordstrom. I was hoping to support a local store but no longer will be shopping at sole shoe. read more

Recently I was salivating over a pair of Cydwoq boots that I spotted online, and I suddenly thought to check out Sole Food's website to see if they might sell them. Sure enough - they did! I called up and a really nice guy said that there was one pair left, in a size that might work for me. When I got there, one of the gals went to find the pair and came back with two pair. Both of the people there were so helpful and nice, encouraging me to try on both pair and take my time figuring out which ones fit me the best. Not only did one pair fit me perfectly, but they were 30% off! I own a pair of Giraudon Mary Janes from Sole Food and always get compliments on them because they're a bit different - in a good way. Even though I can't afford to shop there all that frequently, I'm a big fan of this shoe store because of their wonderful selection and amazing customer service! read more

I've shopped at this cool store for many years. The staff are always friendly and very helpful. I've purchase shoes (yes, ladies on my own :-) for my wife and they've helped me with the size and selections. Always pointing out the new line along with things on sale. As for men shoes - heck yeah, they have some cool selections for us. Purchased some Keens, Vans, Tevas and several other brands. Totally scored on a blue New Balance running shoe for super low price. I was looking for a rainboot for my daughter. She tried one and it was a liitle big for her. I asked the salesperson that whether it was the smallest size, and she said "yes". My daughter wore it from store to the Amazon books, where my husband was waiting for us. He told me that we should look for a smaller one, so I immediately took the shoes off. So she wore them less than 5 min. I checked the website of the boots and found out that it has a smaller size. I went back to the store and told that I'd like to return it. And plenty of selection - I tried 5 Doors Up, Woolly Mammoth and MJ Feet before Sole Food and was not thrilled. Here in Seattle, it is more accepted to wear comfortable shoes with various fashion styles. Finding hip, high functioning shoes is the trick and Sole Food is one of my sources. What makes this a great place is the ability for the whole family to shop here. We had an amazing experience at this boutique shoe store in University Village. We worked with Micah, who is amazing! We initially went in the store to find a first pair of shoes for our toddler. Micah put her (and us!) immediately at ease and was able to measure our kiddo and keep her smiling. We left with a happy toddler and two new pairs of shoes. While we were in the store, we asked about shoes in a hard-to-find adult size. And Micah rose to the challenge and pointed out two perfect pairs (on sale). We left with three perfectly-fitting pairs of shoes. The pricing was appropriate for high-quality shoes and comparable to what we'd expect to pay at a premium department store. The other day, I stopped by with my daughter to buy back-to-school shoes. We were the only customers in the store, but the whole time we were there, neither of the two salespeople offered to help us. Instead, they spent the entire time talking loudly about why they don't support a ban on assault rifles. Ugh. Totally off-putting. I was there to buy shoes, not listen to your conversation about assault weapons, especially in front of my 8 year old daughter. I love this store, but will take my business elsewhere. read more

First and last time in the store. I asked for Mephistos as I wanted walking shoes for a trip to Europe. Male "customer service rep" offered running shoes and said he couldn't help me unless I told him exactly what I wanted. Clarified not running, good to walk in, can be dressed up. Waved his hand to the shelf but didn't ask any questions of what I'd be doing, didn't show me anything popular, and appeared generally inconvenienced with having to deliver customer service. He waited by check out doing absolutely nothing. When I found without any help something I liked, he replied they didn't have it in my size -- rather flatly I might add -- and didnt try to show me something similar that might work instead or suggest where I might instead find said shoes or something similar. Honestly -- I could order online; but I'd rather shop brick and mortar. Not like this though. My advice: do something else if you don't want to learn sales and don't have a sense of humor. read more

Decent selection of flats and boots in some unique brands. You won't get a bargain unless you can find a size in the sale section, which isn't likely. The employees here are attentive... a little too attentive. When I came in last, I was the only person in the store, and three girls plastered with fake smiles were hanging over me like hawks. Can you say commissioned? Sole Food doesn't have any real competition in U-Village, which is lucky for them. I prefer Nordstrom. read more

Great shoes (for women & little little ones) but not great service. Almost no selection for big kids--kids in the 8-12 yr range, with feet larger than a size 2 or 3, but not ready for grown up shoes. And the service is really amateur. Last time I was in, my daughter tried several ballet flats on that ended up being too big. Instead of going back to get the smaller size, the sales girl tried to suggest other shoes which also ended up being too big. I finally asked "well don't you have any of those in a size smaller?" She looked a bit confused and replied "oh probably. Would you like me to check?" So I said "I guess not." And we left. read more
