Artful shoe displays
Maureen C.

Love this place. The selection is unrivaled. They have a great section of higher level fashion up front if you don't get as much joy as I do digging through the racks. In the racks is everything you could ever need. Looking for housewares? One of the largest housewares (read anything not clothes) sections in the country. The prices are good but if you want SUPER cheap just look around for an alternative that has a tag sale (50% one color each day) Sure it's messy, but they're doing their best. It's partially cause they have SO much stuff, and the patrons don't necessarily keep things tidy either. Wanted to shout out whoever did the shoe displays in April of 2024. These are really nice!!(photos below)

hello this is Kelly, I have just left this location and go there quite frequently. my heart is tremmring of how embarrassing this was for me! I have never been kicked out of a store especially because of my lovely PSD/ESA (psychiatric SERVICE dog-( for my sever anxiety and PTSD) /emotional support SERVICE animal) Nova, she is very well trained. I've had no problems with her EVER. After 10 minutes of being at this store a man walked up to me in front of a group of people and insisted I tell him what my disability is and what kind of service animal she is or I would have to leave which is illegal and may I add completely inappropriate he could have asked what she is trained to do witch is legal. After I told him she is a PSD/ESA and I explained to him what that means, he then interrupted me and said "nope you've got to go you guys cannot be in here and pointed to the door, and I told him I could bring her to the car come back and pay for the stuff I have in my cart, he then followed me out of the door and stood by me the whole time after I came back in. He must have not understood this is EXACTLY WHY I have my PS DOG. I then heard him say something to his coworker about how "these type of people don't actually need service animals" .. : ( .. I have very bad anxiety the whole store was watching me from that point on I just wanted to hurry and get out of there! Please I hope someone handles this serious issue! He could have told me they don't allow service animals and left it at that but to put me through all of that was very unfortunate!

Their new name is Badwill(TM) as the restrooms are "closed for repairs". Very inconvenient for the seniors and disabled.

Love this place. Love going early to beat crowds. Selection is definitely variable by season; I have struck out some trips.

Great place to up-cycle things in decent shape that you don't use but others can. And also a good place to furnish your first apartment

My best find was an antique sewing machine and I get great joy finding treasure in other people's junk.

When I stopped by, there were plenty of people checking out the Halloween costumes, but plenty of space for a nice browse. I ended up getting 2 fun T-shirts and a sleek phone case (looked brand new!) for just over $20. While the selection of clothing isn't huge compared to other thrift stores I've been to, it was organized well and there are always gems to be found if you're willing to look. The cashier was nice and friendly, and I walked out happy with my goods. Appreciated the Community Board as well, with a nice curation of events going on in the area!

When I moved and switched jobs I called the non profit and they brought out a truck with two staff to pick up my gently used furniture. I even had some baby clothes that they donated to Mary's place. I continue to support however I can and really like the stores displays. The non profits mission and values are very clear and they are so community centered. I often refer folx in need of the rapid HIV testing that Out of the Closet provides. I'm happy that the money goes to fund this service. Also, great customer service and excellent staff. As the hill continues to evolve and change, I am so happy that Out of the Closet remains a Cap Hill staple. 10 stars!

I've been to thrift stores from one end of the state to the other. And many out of state as well!…read moreThis store has a boutique vibe when you walk in with the way the displays are set up for the Knick-knacks that is cute and inviting if you don't experience overstimulation but once you get beyond that, it seems they have overpriced a lot of the clothing and other items that seems to keep merchandise from moving effectively. I went on a holiday where the parking lot was packed with street parking full as well. I didn't see people with loads of things they were buying. For instance, an older genuine leather credit card and checkbook holder (I.e. not a complete wallet) was priced at $20. Used David's Bridal formals at $60-$80. Keep in mind that any used formal will need to be cleaned before wearing, which adds to the price of buying a used dress. David's Bridal sells bridesmaids dresses with two different webpages on their website. Dresses under $100 and Dresses under $70. I drove to this store specifically because I'd heard they had quality things at good prices and my daughter was hoping to find a formal dress. While I did find most of their books reasonably priced, I won't take the time to go back.
