On a Tuesday morning last week I was tasked with a time sensitive large canvas printing project. I needed it Thursday morning 9 AM at the VERY LATEST. After contacting several local printers I was told It couldn't be done. I was beginning to panic when I cold emailed The Color Group. Through my usual combination of indigence mixed with perfectionism, I found myself with a tight deadline for a limited edition giclée print for an upcoming event. I dashed off an e-mail to The Color Group on Saturday, thinking I might hear from them on Monday. Two hours later I was looking at an estimate. I sent the job in on Monday, on Tuesday I looked at hard copy proofs with two different paper options, on Thursday the prints were done and on Friday I picked up the absolutely stunning final product. The color was just what I was looking for, the matte varnish provided a great vintage feel and the detail leapt off the page. Flawless. BTW as a former Art Director, I really appreciate hard proofs--I don't think soft proofs tell you much about the final printing. And you always know when you're working with someone who cares about the work as much as you do. Absolutely 0 flaws. 918 square inches, an infinite number of opportunities to mess up with scratches, dings, air bubbles, uneven cuts, rough edges, roughed surface, compression, impressions, fingerprints etc., but they did not do any of that even once. The Color Group is amazing. I initially contacted them to do my wedding save the dates - vintage postcard on one side, text on the other. I contacted four companies, and The Color Group got back to me fast with a totally reasonable estimate (unlike another highly recommended printer on here which shall remain nameless). Then they did a totally spectacular job, and SUPER FAST! Since they were so awesome, I asked if they could then do the SECOND part of my save the dates, which involved a photo. They were nervous to do the photo because - and this is the truth - they were afraid it would cost me too much! Instead of using photo paper, however, they printed it on glossy cardstock and it looks amazing! I'd recommend these guys to anyone. I've been working with this foundry for a few years and they do such amazing work. As an artist, I want my Giclèes to match as closely to my originals as possible. They understand this and have consistently gone above and beyond. I've come in with two different scenarios; 1) One with an existing digital file that a professional photographer took of my (rather large scale) work. 2) I've also come in with smaller pieces that they have drum scanned in-house. In both cases, they have kept the original for a few days while they tested the color accuracy of the digital files. I'm always so pleased when I see the end result. It's very hard to tell the difference unless one knows what to look for! They have a variety of materials to choose from. Canvases are great for oil and acrylic paintings, but I tend to work in chalk pastel a lot. They have many different high quality, gallery grade papers to print on, some of which match quite closely in tooth to the Cansons I typically use for my originals. Don't think that all they do are art prints. (Though they do a stellar job at that!) I've walked into their space while they've been working on large acrylic backed banners, signage, and business cards. Some very cool projects.. These guys have the chops. And they're so close to the stadiums downtown, that it makes them pretty easy to find. Give them a shot! read more

The Color Group has outstanding service! I've printed a few jobs with them now, and each time they surprise me with the extra mile that they go. For one of the jobs I didn't know how to fix something in Adobe Illustrator, so they asked me to come in. When I came in to the office, they showed me a few tricks on how to fix the it, and then updated the file for me on the spot with no charge. They always take the time to make sure the output is exactly the way you want. They work through email so it's easy to go back and forth on updating files. Their staff is always friendly and pleasant. Print jobs seem to turnover very quickly - they always meet the date they say they will. The Color Group is fantastic, you can't do better in Seattle. When I first arrived in Seattle I checked out many places but The Color Group offered the best prices for the offset printing I wanted. And they have continually delivered such a beautiful products (both offset and giclée printing) that my customers are always surprised to hear that they aren't looking at my original watercolors. Nancy has been long suffering and patient beyond measure in offering estimates for various projects. And the staff is great, really willing to talk out a project and see what the best options are for printing, binding, and whatever else might be needed. When I started doing trade shows, for some reason it didn't at first occur to me to ask them about banners, I guess since I associated them with my paper and art products. I got some estimates and samples from supposedly affordable and fast services and was absolutely horrified by the dreadful quality and the exorbitant prices. I think I decided to ask The Color Group if they knew of anyone who printed cloth banners. And it turns out: they did! I submitted a quote online for some prints I wanted to have made, and received an email back within the hour with the price (in contrast, another place I submitted a quote for just replied "check our website" - which wasn't useful since I needed an odd size), and a suggestion of what paper I should use (since I said I wasn't sure). I needed 3000 postcard size prints for a mailer I was doing. I first went to Office Depot and they wanted $650 for the job, then they messed up the print over and over until I got frustrated and left. I then went to ABC printing and they wanted $1300 for the job. What a crock. Then I found the Color Group. They were able to do the job for $295, and they print your postage and your addresses right there on the card with it! They are so professional and nice. Do not go to a print store that prints your stuff on a laser printer. Go to the color group and they can do a whole run for you at a fraction of the cost.
