Hello, great environment and prices for up to 4 cameras for projects in the water and on the land.

WAY overpriced and bad communication. They charged over $200 for scans and prints of 4 rolls of 35mm, and it took over 2 weeks to do... I've lived all around the country and used labs all around the country, MoonPhoto is by far the most expensive lab I've used. $50 Toal per roll for developing, scans, and prints is pushing double what plenty of others charge. Not only that, when I dropped off my film, the cashier confirmed with me, not once, but twice, that I was getting scans, and prints, and that was over $117. Then to my shock when I was told my order was ready, I didn't see any scans, and upon asking I was told I still needed to purchase scans. This is even after explaining that I was told I was getting scans. That was an additional $80+, so I ended up paying $200 for 4 rolls. I won't be returning. Not even close to worth the cost, for how long it takes and how expensive it is. read more

Used to like this place, but they now lack attention to detail, professional results and pleasant people. In a nutshell: Theres no full frame printing. They said their machines can't scan the entire 35mm negative, so some of it will always be cropped. As a photographer who used to scan my own negatives, I find that hard to believe. As a full-frame, no-crop printer, I find it impossible to achieve successful results. The color matching is off. They could not match colors of images, even when I physically brought in other cheap prints and irreplaceable originals to show them. The density corrections are off. I'm not looking for an Ansel Adams level of the zone system, but they didnt follow my requests to print denser. On another image they couldn't help but to over correct on density and color corrections. They basically made color where there was supposed to be white highlights. It was muddy and oversaturated, and no longer looked like a fabulous cross processed image. They had an original print to work from, but reverted to the weird color instead. Verbal agreements on refunds/discounts are not honored. Bob said on account of all the improper scans, he would print some free giclees that added up to the $85 I basically threw away. He did not follow through with that discount. Twelve mediocre 4x6 prints of 4 different images cost me $285, the full price. Again, no discount for all the repeated mistakes. Nor are there apologies. Bob is very frustrating to communicate with, as he's adamant about being correct. When he printed the incorrect negative, yet repeatedly insisted he was correct, it was awkward, unprofessional and extra work for me to physically review his workflow to find the mistake. Yes, that happened. And there were no apologies. It's hard to love this business post traditional printing. Bob really understood black and white and printed a wonderful portrait for me in the past. So maybe I expect too much from a $27 4x6 digital photo? Or maybe the digital workflow is overwhelming his worker bees. Not sure, but after the 3rd round of printing, there was no more time for corrections, I had to settle on the 12 $275 images, no discount, no apologies, no usable scans for later printing. I know they tried but it wasn't good enough for professional work. read more

Found a small B&W photo of my wife from about 25 years ago, a bit crumpled and with a blemish on her face. Moon Photo cleaned it up and produced two 11 by 11 prints that are beautiful. The place operates on paper as much as on computer but seems to keep things reasonably on track. Very nice people that all seem to have solid expertise in photography. read more

I was looking for a place to develop 35mm film from a few Kodak Fun Saver disposable cameras, and didn't really want to take them to a neighborhood drug store to get them developed. This was mainly because 1) I wasn't sure if they still develop disposable cameras and 2) these were rolls from various trips and I wanted to make sure the prints came out as best as possible! Drop off was easy, I just had to fill out a form asking some basic questions, and they said they'd call me once it had been processed. If I recall, it was about 1.5 weeks. The prints turned out great! Printed on high quality paper, and definitely enhances the overall mood of the photo with my lackluster photography skills. They were super busy when I went to pick up the photos, so I'm glad they're getting a lot of business. Only knocking one star off because I was quite surprised at the overall price at pickup--I paid about $60 more than I was anticipating. It could very well be that I just didn't read the form correctly, but even now looking at their site it seems like for the number of prints I received, the total still shouldn't have been that high. But honestly, the photos turned out great and I'm going to cherish them forever, so what's a lil more $$. read more

Always go here to get my disposables developed. Their quality for prints is incredible and if you request an email of scans they're also super clear and easy to access. I would definitely recommending get one or other (prints OR scans) but not both cause that can get a little pricey (around $40 for both but around $20 each). Usually takes about a week or two at most to get my pictures back, and they give you your roll of film back as well. Thanks for the consistent and wonderful work! read more

My mom recently returned from a trip to see her family in the Philippines. She brought back a very old family photo that was very dear to her because it was one of the only pictures of her and her father together, as he died when she was two. It is a larger picture, probably 12" x 24". It looked like it was a family photo originally taken in black-and-white in the mid 50s and then later painted to be in color. It had a lot of water damage and looked like someone had tried to decorate it with stick-on "jewels." I wanted to restore this picture for my mom, so I did some research online and Moon Photo came highly recommended. Moon Photo offers both digital restoration which they will then print up for you on high-quality photo paper or will delicately restore the original picture by hand. We chose digital restoration as it was cheaper. My husband met with them for an initial evaluation and estimate of the work. He felt the artist was informative and experienced, with a reasonable price and quick turnaround. Moon Photo completed the job earlier than expected and did some amazing work. For a small extra fee they even gave us the digital restoration file on thumb drive. I can't wait to give my mom this picture and I would definitely recommend them. read more

Whenever I see my negatives back from the lab, I am reminded why I love b/w photography and am willing to pay so much for it. Moonphoto does a great job! If you request scans, they will scan the sugar out of those negatives! Each image could be scanned to 4mb+ per image. Zoom in on those to see every single film grain, I love it! I did notice a bit of dust on some of the images, which I guess can happen. Could have been any number of factors, as the majority of the images came out beautifully. I have only come in once so far, so I have no experience with their printing of images but it seems like they have a variety of options and I would imagine they would do an excellent job based on their care to the eight rolls and scans that I brought in. You'll be handing over a lot of cash, but that is to be expected. I will do it happily to support this local business that we all need to keep going so us photogs can have a local and trusted place to bring film should we have no lab access of our own. Whenever I get my negatives back, i am reminded of why I love this medium so much. read more

Moonphoto did an EXCELLENT job with two family photos from the 1970s. I asked to have the photos touched up to fix the colors that had been distorted by age and reprinted in a slightly larger size. The reprints look so much better. They're now framed and on display to celebrate my dad. The total cost (~$60) almost exactly matched their initial estimate. I asked earlier this week for a shop that did Black and White custom processing and people were kind enough to suggest a couple of locations. Unfortunately those places could not do what I wanted. One of the shops suggested Moon Photo. I always think it is a good sign when a shop recommends you to their competition. I called Moon Photo and explained what I wanted done. We recently came across some 100 year old negatives from my Grandparents ranch in northern California. The negatives were 4"x3" and I wanted a contact proof, oh and I need it by Saturday. When I called them they explained that they printed on Tuesday ,Thursday, and Friday. They also explained that they could complete my job on the next day. On Thursday, we stopped by and was helped by a guy with the greatest Santa beard this side of the North Pole. Big Props for Santa man. He was knowledgeable and professional talking us through the process, how much it would cost and that it would be ready the next afternoon. As we were looking at samples in the lobby, I saw that they were doing some work for the Museum of History and Industry which again reassured me that I made the correct selection. Friday we went to pick up the prints and they were better than I could have expected, and they ended up being less than I expected because he could print them on the same sheet which resulted in a savings for us. This was a nice surprise. They provide a lot of services besides just processing black and white. They also scan negatives, and photo restoration and as we continue to go through some of the old photos from Mom's house, I think we will be back there time and time again. read more

Edited to add: 7 years later the owner replied to this review saying I was wrong, when I didn't talk to him, and it was 7 years ago. I don't remember the conversation, and I was actually there, unlike the owner. First off, I have never actually used this establishment. But I had a recent phone conversation with an employee that turned me off of it. Luckily, I had the foresight to call ahead. And boy, am I glad I did! Their website is sooooo wrong! I wanted some black and white film developed with a contact sheet. Why is that $16.50 when black and white film developed with prints made is $7.50? I am pretty sure it should be the other way around. But that's what they insisted. Which is a rip off! I wanted to shop in my "neighborhood", but it looks like I will just be going to 60 minute in Capitol Hill. Secondly, their website states that if you have your black and white film in by noon, it will be processed by 1 pm the next day. Apparently, this is incorrect. Because of digital, black and white has gone the way of the dinosaurs. First off, I don't believe that. If you used black and white before, you will most likely continue to use it in some sort of aspect. Secondly, only processing film 2 days a week is not going to make any more people come in and use your services. It is completely inconvenient. Like I said, I will just go to 60 minutes. Lastly, maybe they should update their website to reflect this? Digital photos have been getting bigger for the last 10 years, this place probably didn't even get a website till 10 years ago. So I am sure they could have easily added the fact that they only process black and white film on Mondays and Thursdays. Horrible Hours, rude employees and outrageous prices? No thank you. read more

I've processed my 120 here before, and just dropped off two rolls today. The owner is friendly and definitely knows what he's talking about. My last film was perfectly processed and free of any dust or fingerprints. I didn't find it to be too expensive, especially since MoonPhoto is able to handle lots of types of film. I will continue to use them to process my 120 film, not many places do that anymore and it's nice to stay fairly local to get that done. read more

I've used Moon Photo 3 times so far & each time the quality of the photos has been excellent. Their developing is ace & their scans very rarely ever have any dust on them. As a professional photographer I rely on my lab to help reduce the editing time I spend on the images & these guys shine through each time. They are worth every penny & the long wait time. read more

I've used these folks on and off over the past 15 years, and much more so in the past year and half because I've gone back to primarily shooting film again AND I live much much closer than I did before. Win-win. Friendly. Knowledgeable. Reasonable prices. There are a couple mail-order shops I send stuff to occasionally when I have a huge run of rolls to get done, but more often than not I just take my stuff to Moon because even though they're a bit more expensive, they do just as good a job and I can chat with them and give my scratch to this great local shop rather than sending it elsewhere. Normally I just get film developed only, uncut but the few prints and scans I've ordered have always come back looking to have been done with almost as much care as I'd have given them. Quality photo shops are few and far between these days.... Bob and his crew are, and always have been, one of the good ones. read more

Moonphoto has print quality you're not going to find in many other places. I've had my work printed through several professional printing companies over the years, but nothing has ever quite been like when I was in photo school and had full control over ensuring my images looked exactly as they did on my computer screen. Moonphoto will give you just that. I might also add that I needed a rush print for a last minute wedding expo project, and they were able to have my prints to me same day. So I really appreciate them for that! If you're serious about having your work in print, this is the place to go. read more

Avoid them if you are a professional or good amateur photographer. I sent them about 30 photos to print. These are photos I spent hours getting the way I wanted, adjusting the curves, profile, and saturation levels. They took several days to print them (these were for my tech-illiterate grandmother who is dying). I paid $60 and got a bunch of washed-out prints. I asked them to reprint them without retouching them, as they were sent in. They did not call me when the prints were ready, and they printed out the photos washed-out, with overexposed whites again. I asked if they retouched and they said "Yes," despite me asking them not to. They claimed that my color profile was off (it was sRGB 2.1, the standard), and said the photos looked fine to them. Because the turnaround time is so slow and they were clearly unwilling to print my pictures as I sent them, I gave up. Highly unprofessional and unhelpful staff. They might be fine if you're not the kind of person who labors over getting your photos just the way you want them. I've worked in a photo lab before, and I've been taking photos for over 15 years, and this was one of the worst experiences I've had at a printer. read more

Miracle workers. I found a disposable camera from the mid-1990's in a storage locker. There was no chance of getting images off that roll. They somehow milked a tiny amount of color from the pitch-black negatives, and came up with useful photos. Amazing. read more

Bob is a genius. He took a photo from about 1900 that had been folded, creased and was starting to silver badly and did the most amazing digital restoration of it. You can now see all the details - it is nothing short of magical. He then printed it in the original size and I just can't believe the difference. He's done several other old photographs for me - some that were photos of photos - and the results have been fantastic. I would highly recommend them. read more
