Just complaining recently that Chicago has very few old fashioned donut places left then I walked into this gem in Eastlake. Best vanilla filled donut ever. So fresh and it was 4pm! They still had a huge selection too. I then looked up their insanely long hours. The place barely closes and must be churning out fresh donuts constantly. Light texture, sweetness but not too glazed, just about perfect in texture and flavor! The cruller was god awful. Stale, dry, rubbery, like it didn't belong at all with the fresher donuts I tried from the mix I got. The ones I got to try were inedible. BIG DOWNSIDE: CASH ONLY. $17 flat cash for a dozen.

The donuts often sell out fast but if you can get there early they are more than worth it. Yeast style glazed donuts that look like small tires they are so big and the donut holes look like small softballs! I could not believe my eyes. They are so good. The fry pies are hand held glazed pies and come in many flavors. Our favorites include lemon and strawberry cream cheese. You can get fry pies at several Amish shops but these have the most filling and best all over flavor that I have found. You can also get plates of molasses cookies here that melt in your mouth. My daughter can eat them faster than I can turn around. Me, I love the whoopie pies.
