Just complaining recently that Chicago has very few old fashioned donut places left then I walked into this gem in Eastlake. Best vanilla filled donut ever. So fresh and it was 4pm! The only winner here was a big hit- the unfilled Bismarck! Super soft and fluffy- bordering on syrupy but not quite- this donut was almost ideal. Light texture, sweetness but not too glazed, just about perfect in texture and flavor! The cruller was god awful. Stale, dry, rubbery, like it didn't belong at all with the fresher donuts I tried from the mix I got. The ones I got to try were inedible. BIG DOWNSIDE: CASH ONLY. $17 flat cash for a dozen.

The coconut yeast was more moist but still too bready and dense for a perfect fluffy donut. The cruller was totally meh- kinda dry and rubbery but not inedible. The old fashioned was dry. The blueberry cake was less moist and had no crispiness sadly. Overall very average.

Let me tell you what I have ordered: A Breakfast Wrap with sausage ($2.99) and a side of Hash Brown ($0.80). WHERE CAN YOU FIND PRICES LIKE THIS?! To sum it up, the food was great and I can't wait to come back! I also forgot to mention the most important part, which is the service from the owner and her husband! They are such sweet people and so welcoming. I cannot wait to make this the spot in town to bring my friends and grab a bite and catch up! Hidden gem in a little strip of stores.

I've had their donuts before and they're delicious so I thought I'd give the food a try. I got the sliced beef, two wings and an order of collard greens. The wings were good but I've had better as far as flavor goes but they were cooked well. The greens were delicious. Very melt in your mouth. I absolutely love the pickles and the slaw. And the sliced beef stole the show. It's so tender. It falls apart as you try to take it out the container. Overall, I spent about $28 and would definitely return again for the beef and greens

What drew my eye initially were the donuts and then I looked at their full menu. I opted for a pulled pork sandwich which I hadn't had in ages that came with purple onions and a slaw on the sandwich. They were VERY generous with the pork and, naturally, it did fall out of the sandwich a bit but that's to be expected. I'm not sure what sort of bun they used but it withstood the moisture of the meat and toppings very well and didn't really disintegrate (always a plus). I ended up taking two donuts because I couldn't decide. The first was a double chocolate which I was looking forward to the most. I was a bit disappointed because I wasn't a fan of the buttercream filling, it wasn't as chocolate-y as I would've liked but that's a personal preference. The other was a strawberry hibiscus (?) and the flavor was lovely. The donuts themselves are a bit hefty so if you're expecting light and pillow-y, these are not the donuts for you. Overall great lunch that left me with leftover pulled pork for dinner.
