Absolutely loved this place. I have been wanting to stop by for sometime now and finally got a chance to try it! Everything is so good here. Love their chips and salsa! We ordered a few meals to go and they got everything right! The taco plate with rice and beans was a hit. Got steak with the onions and cilantro on the side. They wrapped it up really nice in foil and had a good amount on it. Did not skip out on the meat. They taco where full of meat, thank goodness! I loved every bite and did it on flour. The quesadillas and enchiladas are also good! It's a great price point. I see people stopping by in the morning, I am wondering if they serve breakfast how it taste! I for sure am coming back! Yesterday, I went to Magdaleno's Restaurant on Shady Grove in south Irving. I've passed this place at least a handful of times over the years and have never given it a second look because of its old building and signage. I won't make that mistake again! FYI, parking is sparce in front, but plentiful behind the building. It's small inside with dark walls, lots of TV's, and a cool modern industrial look... not at all what I was expecting. There are around 10-12 tables and you sit wherever you like. They had a nice mix of clientele, many of which seemed like regulars, all of whom were in a great mood and happy to be there. It was a nice atmosphere! I ordered the poblano chile relleno with ground beef and it was fantastic! It came lightly breaded and fried, covered in the most perfect brothy red chile sauce, and topped with cheese. It was accompanied by delicious rice and beans (a bit runny, but very tasty), as well as a scoop of guacamole and homemade corn tortillas. My son and I are spending more time together lately and he has picked up on my love of finding new places. We were in Irving recently and he found this place. It was 2pm and we were starving. I was able to park right in front and since he is using a walker right now, it worked out perfectly. I didn't see any handicap parking, but as we were starving, I didn't look. The place is so clean - that was the first thing that caught my eye. Some local places don't spend money on flooring and dressing up the walls, but this place fixed it up nice. There were a couple of tables occupied and a couple of servers, so I figured we'd get quick service. We did and she was pleasant & spoke to us in English & Spanish. My son, well, and me too - we like to practice our Spanish whenever we can, lol. I ordered the chili relleno. It's one of my favorites. I have gone off Tex-Mex and even traditional Mexican food, except for the healthier options, since covid and the ability to order-in can cause the weight gain if you're not careful. I splurged today. Not crazy about the runny beans. When I do eat beans now, I choose the whole beans, but didn't quickly see that option. They were good, but too runny. The relleno was cooked perfectly and the cheese inside was yummy. It was served with tortillas and I used them to scoop up bits, it was good. My son had the flautas. He doesn't talk much lately, but def no complaints from him. Service was good. The food was served very quickly and she checked on us and delivered the bill without being asked. The temperature was good, music - not even sure they had any going, the place was pretty calm and quiet. By 3pm, the place was filling up, good for them. I had a craving for gorditas and this place definitely satisfied that craving. Anyway, I had been here before COVID and tables are definitely spaced out and there is less seating, however it was still pretty slow so our food came out fast, hot, and fresh. Due to COVID, everything is on paper plates, paper cups, etc. I had the fajitas gorditas plate with rice and beans and my mother had the carne asada plate with rice and a side salad. Both were so delicious! Since good gorditas are hard to find and this is close to my moms house, I will be back for more gorditas regularly read more

This family-run restaurant is a hidden gem in Irving. Usually one of the daughters will wait on you and I've never really had a problem with any of them like others have mentioned. They've always been courteous and efficient. The food is definitely authentic Mexican and not Tex-Mex. My favorite is the chili relleno. It is also the favorite of my mother-in-law, who ran a tortilla factory/restaurant for half of her life. The pepper is fresh and the egg batter is fried just right. Sooo yummy! Been here many times for breakfast tacos.. But since prices went up I stopped. Then I went back today. Prices for 3 breakfast tacos are almost $8.60 that's is ridiculous. I used to pay $5 something a few months ago.. I ain't paying 3 tacos for $8.60.. They're crazy!!!! I left the tacos on the table and left.. I'm sorry if you think paying $.50 extra for adding cheese or potatoes.. The staff didn't seem to care. My husband is a gm and he would do anything to please the customers... Wow.....this place just got put on the banned list for me, and I hope anyone that reads this review follows suit. Remind this business that certain things are not acceptable. A friend of mine and I went to eat here tonight, and I had my service dog with me. Upon entering the establishment I was asked by the owners daughter, to leave my SERVICE DOG outside. I advised her that federal law allows the dog access to anywhere I go including restaurants. She then proceeded to seat us in the back corner out of traffic, away from other patrons, with no menus. A few minutes pass and menus are brought and drinks(water because they dont serve beer) were ordered. No problem so far. The owner now approaches the table and ask to see my papers for my dog. As she notices the service vest, she backs away from the question before I can explain the law to her. She then proceeds to tell me how other patrons are uncomfortable and I need to just understand and be polite to the waitress (her daughter who I advised of the law). At this point the room of patrons is looking our way and mind you my dog has not made a sound. At this point I feel very unwelcome and descriminated against. Is it because I am a veteran? Is it because I choose a service dog over medication to deal with crowds and anxiety? I tell the owner at this point I FEEL very uncomfortable and we will go elsewhere for dinner. If you are taking the time to read this, do me a favor and go someplace else. Let this owner know that your veterans matter and this behavior on her part is not acceptable!!! read more

The service HORRIBLE!! I just came from there and the restaurant is not far from my job and it took over an hour for our to go order. The waitress didn't speak English well messed up one of our orders for carnitas and gave us fajita instead. We told her this is wrong could you give us carnitas and she was like no we can't. You order fajitas she said. No ma'am you have it WRONG! She get her supervisor/manager and this lady told us, "you order fajitas and now you change the order this is your 1st and last time cause we throw this in the trash". This was my 1st time there and my last time there! I told her the customer service was terrible and that we will never come again.( I said more than that but I wont put it) And they didn't want to give us any salsa! Hidden gem located on Shady Grove near Nursery in South Irving. Excellent food, great prices. I had the combination plate with a beef enchilada, gordita filled with lengua, a chicken quesadilla with rice and beans. Everything had a wonderful flavor and was well-prepared. The corn tortillas are thick and the best I have ever had. Hubby had the beef fajitas with grilled onions - very tasty and lots of food. We were both stuffed and the fajitas were so good I got an order to go for my mother! We will definitely be back and are excited that such a great place is right around the corner! Food was okay but service is horrible. I don't like how the staff made us feel. I believe it is because we are both white. The staff had this attitude from the moment we entered the restaurant. We were approached and asked, "Can I help you?" I said, "Yes, We would like to have dinner.". And then we were asked, "You're getting an order to go?" And then I said, "No, we came to eat here." Then she looked at us annoyed and said to sit down and she would go get us menus. We both chose our own table and sat and waited for awhile and neither of us could believe how rude we were treated. But now that we were here I wanted to try the food. After waiting a while we were both handed menus and the woman stood over us waiting for us to order and she had just handed us menus. It was like she wanted us to just hurry and be done and leave. I told her we would both like a few minutes to look over the menus and in the meantime we would appreciate a couple glasses of ice water and 2 cokes. And that's when she did it. She rolled her eyes, and sighed. For real. And then walked away to get our drinks. We both looked at each other shocked. Rudeness beyond belief. When she returned with our drinks we ordered fajitas and when they were brought, they were okay. But we had to get her attention to get us more warm tortillas (4 is not enough for 2 people) ...and she seemed irritated with us for asking. Isnt it her job to bring us food and drink that we order? By this point there were 3 other tables with hispanic customers dining. I didnt notice her treating any of them rudely. Just the table of white people. Getting drink refills too was asking too much of her as she blatantly gave us attitude for requesting it even though it was slow and not a busy place she seemed like she didn't want us drinking a second glass. It was so obvious she just wanted us to leave. We both had had enough. I was worried she would be spitting in my food and drink next, so we left and didn't even finish our meal. And I did not even leave any tip at all for the disservice we were given. We will never go there again. And I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else who appreciates being treated as a valuable customer, where you dine. Worst treatment I have ever received in a restaurant. As we were paying we also witnessed a military guy get seated in the back. Then while the server was at his table he started raising his voice. He was upset for sure and the lady leaned in close to the table to talk so I couldn't hear the rest until the guy stood up and said he would take his business else where.
