Collared Greens Rarebit

I didn't know much about Magdalena when my wife mentioned going but I was all for it once she gave me a quick run down on that kind of vibe they had! When we walked in, we were immediately greeted warmly by Shannon who took care of us the entire time! (S/O Shannon!) Every part of our experience here was fantastic, from our food (HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE SEAFOOD MONICA), the chill jazz music playing (I need that playlist), and the gorgeous space it's in.

Really enjoyed Magdalena! The food was incredible and the ambiance was intimate yet very relaxing! The food was absolutely delicious. My favorites were the Whitefish dip and the Crawfish Monica! The pasta was SO flavorful and I really enjoyed it. The waiter was so kind and attentive. This place is a hidden gem!!

Classy, elegant vibes in this dimly lit, simple cocktail bar with food that will impress. The menu can change but usually highlights raw fish such as oysters, scallops, or tuna/salmon. It is New Orleans-based but think upper class NOLA ;) the servers seemed to enjoy the community/camaraderie and had great suggestions for our table almost reading the person and what would be best for them and not interrupting at the wrong times. Awesome interactions with the wait staff overall! The rarebit was perfectly cooked, the mushroom risotto HIGHLY encouraged (so much flavor and a more filling dish than most), and the smoked whitefish dip was something everyone at our table said they would be back to have again (GREAT DEPTH OF FLAVOR!!). The acorn squash had some overcooked corners but every other bite was mixed with an awesome palette mixture. So much love was put into these dishes and they should be shined a light on. Probably not a bad thing on the menu here. Perfect for a birthday dinner or meetup with old friends definitely check out Magdalena!!

Don't miss this gem! This restaurant just reached the one year mark in the Fountain Square neighborhood. The food, atmosphere, music and service come together to provide a wonderful dining experience. We got there early and were treated to happy hour drinks, classics with clever twists. We tasted 3/5 entrees, 2/6 sides 2/2 desserts and all were original and perfectly cooked.

This has quickly become one of my favorite restaurants! My fiancé and I were in town for a friends wedding and knew we wanted to try a nice restaurant for one of the extra nights. Our expectations were blown AWAY. We used our Resy $100 AMEX credit, and it made such a big part of being able to sample multiple apps and drinks. I wish I remembered the names of all the drinks, but the red drink in coupe glass (I think it was the hotel nacional?) was my favorite. The ham dish was INSANE IN THE BEST WAY. a month later and I still daydream about this dish. It was cheesy, savory, salty, and creamy all in one. I thought the gravy did a great job of breaking up some of the pimento in the grits too. Ultimately, I'm sure most people can't eat here just whenever they want, but if you're looking for a great date night spot or to celebrate a special occasion, I highly recommend Magdalena.

Five stars and possibly our new fave Indy restaurant!!!! Wonderful service and amazing culinary creations. Also really appreciated the complimentary sparkling wine tasters mid-meal. Every bite was an "omg so good" moment. I cannot wait to return! My only requests for improvement: 1. More comfortable chairs. The seats in the center section were very basic and hard. 2. Perhaps a few more gf friendly items. I really need to avoid gluten and this was a worthy splurge but maybe updating the items in small ways to be more customizable for gf. Either way, we will be back as everything is incredible!!!

No menu Monday (the simpsons) - Flanders "nachos" (whipped ricotta, cucumber, gazpacho)

I am once again here to sing the praises of Magdalena. Owner Nick Detrich and his staff provide a high level of service on a regular night and absolutely exceed expectations at any special event they host. Don't miss No Menu Monday themed dinners: I recently attended one of these dinners centered around The Simpsons and was amazed by how elevated an animated sitcom themed dinner could be. We started off with Flander's Style Nachos (referred to in the show as cucumbers and cottage cheese) - whipped ricotta with cucumbers and fresh dill, surrounded by a strawberry tomato gazpacho. I will dream of this gazpacho all summer. Next was the best sloppy Joe you'll ever have - complete with house BBQ and a pickled shishito. Onto the forbidden donut - a savory cheddar choux with beet goat cheese in place of the frosting and topped with bee pollen. For the last savory course, Marge's pork chop was served, complete with pear puree and rosemary. Now the dessert really took it home for me, a chocolate cremeux with homemade marshmallow and maldon salt. I will be trying (and likely failing) to replicate this decadent sweet treat. An optional drink pairing for all five courses was available as well and, naturally, you can't miss these pairings. Magdalena remains a favorite and I can't wait to see what they come up with next.

Whitefish spread with fried saltines

Hospitality at its finest. It started with a warm welcome from Shannon at the hostess stand. Next up - a menu customized to my food allergy, include alerts about possible cross contamination. Alejandra was an attentive server. Two buck shuck oysters were delicious. Adored the whitefish spread with fried saltines. Tuna tostada was crunchy and spicy. And the lemon dessert had perfect hit of acid. A few surprises in between made for a spectacular experience.

Excellent service! Quick and friendly! The venue is so cute! I went with my friends but it's not too loud and intimate so great for a date night! Trust the chef, this is a place you should try things you usually wouldn't! Also the cocktails are well balanced and full of flavor! Would return definitely! Oysters were a 10!

An unexpected transition from vape shops and mexican restaurants might be underway in Fountain Square. Located in the intersection, Magdalena, sits near more parking options than most other shops in this location. We were pleasantly surprised by the interior of the place, it's chic minimal style keeps it flexible for casual diners but can also be considered elevated for a date night option. The menu is heavily seafood/raw bar but did offer two or three cooked meal dinners. Overall, we had a good experience, but it is an acquired taste and not somewhere that we will frequent often.

I could probably write an essay about Magdalena. It's quickly become my favorite spot in town. From the menu staples, to rotating to items, to limited specials, to special meals like the no menu Monday series every single things knocks it out of the park. The food is creative, stunning, and full of flavor. The seafood is always fresh. Even the veggies are always a shining star which doesn't happen everywhere. The cocktail program has classics, spins on stuff you know, and creative originals. The vibes and ambiance are perfection. It's been a great date spot, but my foodie kid also loves it. And the staff- the best in town. Service is always out of this world and they are all super rad and friendly individuals who care about their work! (I could probably post like 500 photos at this point )

Finally got to try the new hot spot in Fountain Square! Went for dinner on a Friday. Really great service. Super knowledgeable and helpful staff, we had like a million questions. Ordered half dozen oysters, tuna tostada, burrata, cucumber, Brussels sprouts, and steak. And a few cocktails. Cocktails were pretty solid. The Bon Secour* oysters were amazing, and all the other dishes were phenomenal. The steak was good but I think I'd just go with 2 other dishes next time. Will definitely be back to try some different cocktails and some new dishes when the menu rotates.

Came here with friends to try and share many of the dishes. I haven't seen a ton of people review this place and they don't in-fact post the menu on Instagram like their website suggests. Ironically they did start posting the menu for something called No Menu Monday. That leads everyone to think they are only an oyster bar which is a disservice to the broader menu and stops people that dislike oysters from coming. The space has changed from its Thunderbird days. Decor is sparse, just one giant framed poster. I would have expected a little more thought put into the ambiance of the space. The food was good but also so tiny. The waitress did suggest 3-4 plates for person so that puts you at $45-60/person. I ordered the Ramos gin fizz which was great but steep at $22. I kept it to the one drink. I highly recommend this place for a drink and an app. We did not try the dessert but I'm sure it is good. We tried the Hokkaido scallop on special. $10/scallop. Smoked whitefish dip (a standout) which comes with the fried saltines. Chicken liver parfait (very rich - probably good it's small). Burrata (nothing special - save your money for something else). Tuna crudo (good as expected, small portion as expected). Steak Hache (should have googled what steak hache is. It was good and thankfully it was made with wagyu but it's ground steak made to look like a steak. It was good but not what we expected.) Sharing was a good way to go but the price point is a turn off. It was not full on a Saturday night during prime dinner time. I hope they add some life to the space and start posting the menu to draw more people in. I definitely didn't know what to expect.

This place is all wine, all the time. I'm not even sure they offer any other adult beverage! As a consummate wine fiend, I didn't even consider any other kind of drink, because I don't need any other adult beverage other than wine, you feel me? I love Solely's commitment to wine. They have wine to drink, and also, the walls are lined with bottles of wine. Just don't touch them! If you see an interesting bottle, don't take it off the shelf. Just tell the people at the counter about the bottle you're interested in, and they will help you. I wasn't in the market for a full bottle of wine during my visits -- just a glass. Solely Wine specializes in "unique, low-intervention wines from passionate small producers," according to their website. So whether you buy a bottle or get a glass, you know you're drinking a thoughtfully chosen wine. I had a glass of the Grenache Syrah blend and the Cab Franc, mostly because I rarely see these kinds of wines offered in the wild. They were both delicious! My only comment is that the pour is very small. The Cab Franc especially felt like it was maybe 4 ounces! I have weighed my wine at home, so I know roughly what a typical wine pour (5 ounces) looks like, and this felt like slightly less. Nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed my wine! And the ambiance is killer. During the day, Solely is a cool place to grab a glass of wine and hang out. It's super close to the Monon Trail, too, so you can just bop over and get a cheeky drink. During the nighttime, the lights are lowered and the ambiance is very romantic and intimate. A great place for a solo drink, and a great place for a romantic date night.

I also love that they're connected to an art gallery, it really adds to the overall experience. I came here for a Yelp event and had an amazing time. Inside, the space is peaceful and inviting, with comfortable seating, games to play, and lots of natural light and live plants that create such a relaxing vibe. The owner was incredibly helpful. I wanted to try a wine flight, and she guided me through selecting options based on my preferences. The wine flight comes with four glasses and is about $24, which felt a little on the expensive side. They accept cards and also have a rewards system (which I definitely signed up for). There's a wide variety of wines, from dry to sweet, so there's something for everyone. I really enjoyed my flight. There was one red (Gamay) that wasn't my favorite since I tend to prefer sweet to semi-sweet wines, but I've been trying to expand my palate, which is why I love the option of flights. It also said it paired well with pizza, so maybe if I was eating that, it would be better. I enjoyed browsing their wine selection for purchase. I really admire how everything is well organized and easy to explore. They sell Stellar pretzels which I've had before and are so good, but solely had cinnamon dolce flavor that I never had before, neither had Kiara, so she bought some and I got to try the them (thank you Kiara!), they tasted just like a churro, so delicious, like a dessert! I can definitely see myself coming back here with friends or even just to enjoy the space and unwind. Such a great vibe overall.

Keagan Fife (Manager) - A team player, receptive to feedback and conscientious. We had a issue while there and he was able to step in and problem solve with me and come up with a solution that really won us over. We had a moment where it was feeling a bit "why did we come here" but his customer service exceeded expectation. That's good management. (He's the gentleman in the video below.) Let's get the negative out the way 1st. The first waitress asked if we wanted anything to drink. I told her we hadn't received menus. She came back sat them down and walked away. We never saw her again. A new waitress came and she seemed pleasant enough. Once we were all seated she began to take our orders. She made a point to say she needed to write it all down or she was get it mixed up. She then did not write anything down. Our food came out extremely slow but that wasn't a huge deal because we all were mingling. A lot of her team had to step in and deliver our food, give drinks, check on us etc. She was pretty non existent. Two of the ladies never received food. This was after we had been there for 2 hours and everyone else had received their items. At the end when we asked for our check they were all mixed up and confused. The waitress then blamed us for adding things and moving around. We never moved once and she only came around the one time when she originally took our orders. We never got a chance to add things. (it was quite comical that she tried to say that) I ended up asking for manager because she seemed overwhelmed and a bit bias about our group. Assuming that we wouldn't want one check and splitting them because she figured we would want it that way and then blaming us because she did it when we never asked for split. There rule is parties over 8 have to have 1 bill and we never asked for an exception. There was just her assumption that a group of black women wouldn't want to do that. (I digress) There were a few more things but I will end it there. That was the big negative. Now the positive!!! Ambiance 10/10 - great views, great music, great location, umbrellas on roof were great although a but wobbly and scary. Also, they come around with complimentary sunglasses while dining. I thought this was a nice and luxurious touch! Food 8/10 - most food received was delicious Service 9/10 - everyone except for our server was great! Everyone who pitched in to help was awesome! Ended up tipping a different server who basically helped us the whole time. Bless his heart because I know he was super busy. As stated above management handle the situation well. I would definitely go back! I try to give people a chance. I think our server may have been overwhelmed and had a past experience that left her bias against our group but hopefully she can grow and get better. Her actions don't reflect the restaurant as a whole! Go and enjoy the vibes and views!

It's not much to look at from the outside - in small strip mall off Fall Creek about 2 miles north of 96th, but the inside is both luxe and comfortably cozy. At just 12 tables, you get your table for the night, so there is no rush and your evening can be as long as you want to make it. They also have a gorgeous little side wine room that you can rent for parties of 6-8 for dinner. And there's a little bar area that seats maybe 4-6. We had reservations for 6pm, so there were only 2 or 3 other tables occupied when we got there, but they filled throughout the night (& we left close to 8pm). Our server Shaunda was delightful, and the owner Dan came around and checked on all the tables a few times as well. We were presented with a cous cous amuse bouche, a nice refreshing bite to start the evening. Hubs had an Italian Old Fashioned and I asked our server to pair wine for me, so it was a Decoy Sauv Blanc with our first course - the mussels. We asked for extra crostinis in order to soak up more of the delicious sauce they came in. Next was the beet arugula salad, so good! For entrees, hubs had the pappardelle bolognaise and got an iced T, and I had the short ribs with risotto, paired with a glass of cab franc. Dessert was coffee (americano) for each of us, and we split the tiramisu (see all my pics). We ate and enjoyed everything! Total with tax was right at 200 before gratuity. So this is more of a splurge place for us, (of course would be less without the beverages we did) but we will be back. It was a really pleasant evening and another big win for me picking birthday places! #yum #ReviewsByRL

It is meant to be slow, so you can settle in and enjoy your food, enjoy the company and just be in the moment. We were probably there just over 2 hours for just the two of us. Chef Dan came out many times to chat with us and really made us feel welcome. Telling us different stories, walking us through what we were eating, and just made us feel like we were special. While everything was amazing, a few standout things I would like to mention: The Mussels were amazing, such good flavor so if you are fan, make sure you order them. The caesar salad comes disassembled, and the anchovies are sold separately, (I didn't realize it when I ordered it), we ordered a few desserts and they were all amazing. Can't go wrong there.

Very knowledgeable staff and servers described all the ingredients and notes of flavor to look for in the dishes very well. Everyone form the hostess to the bartender and bus boy were friendly and welcoming. definitely 5* for service. The menu is a mix of several cuisines from Korean to Italian and even some French with a twist. The menu has great vegetarian options. Unfortunately the chef's tasting menu wasn't available as my reservation was made same day, but I decided to go with the two specials of the day. Dinner kicked off with a shot of Champaign on the house They like welcoming their guests that way. Water kept being refilled immediately. The staff again was very attentive. As an appetizer I went with the Scallops crudo with house made berry vinegar. The crudo was a healthy serving of scallops. Crispy raw carrots and radish provide some texture, while greens including endive provided some bitterness. This dish was a bit heavy on pepper and bitterness from the endives and could use some acidity to balance it out. Scallops were not as sweet as I was expecting. A bit more of the homemade raspberry vinagrette would have been perfect. The dark blue ring caused by the marination process would have shown more on a different color serving plate instead of a black bowl. For the main course I ordered the Beet linguini with sea bass. Interesting take on linguini Pickled rhubarb, rainbow radishes, fresh dill and a 'beet marinara' sauce reminded me of borscht. Unfortunately the linguini was overcooked and soaked up a lot of the butter and sauce. The pickled rhubarb provided a break from the heaviness of the dish but overall the dish lacked brightness. Sea bass was perfectly cooked. Seared and crusted with salt and pepper on one side, simple. Well executed but nothing special. For dessert I went with the Strawberry dacquoise which was delicious. The white chocolate bark with pink peppercorn stole the show. It should be layered inside the dessert! I wanted more of it. This dessert was not overly sweet. it was a great mix of pistachios and strawberry and fluffy cake. Gelee was a bit too dense but otherwise fantastic end to a good meal.

All this and more can be yours when you visit Wine & Rind. At least, all that and more was mine when I visited. This is my ideal restaurant: wine focused, with a succinct menu of beautifully presented and thoughtfully created food. Plus, it's located right off the Monon Trail in Midtown Carmel, so it's a prime space for people-watching. This little restaurant is a great place to get a charcuterie platter, but I was feeling like bruschetta when I visited, so I ordered the Bruschetta Sampler, which is plenty for two people. It comes out like artwork on a wooden platter: five beautiful bruschetta toasts consisting of traditional tomato; fig and bleu cheese; capocollo and a herbed ricotta; blueberry and lemon ricotta with sugar sprinkled on top; and strawberry and cannoli cream with balsamic. The last one (strawberry and balsamic with cannoli cream) was surprising and might have been my favorite, because it tasted like cheesecake. I love being surprised! I also ordered the caprese salad, which was a wonderfully tasty platter of tomato, mozzarella, basil, pesto, olive oil, balsamic glaze and Maldon salt. It was so fresh and light. Another surprise: It was sprinkled with sprouts! I would have never thought to add that to a caprese, but it 100% worked. The service here is top-notch. The server was super nice and attentive, but also disappeared and only reappeared when necessary. Wine & Rind is a Carmel gem!
