We are super picky when it comes to all food, but especially Indian, and had low expectations. We were skeptical but needed a place to accommodate six Indian food loving people coming from different parts of the state. We decided to give it a shot and so glad we did because every single person in our group absolutely LOVED it! Don't judge a book by it's cover! First, we had two vegans in our group and they were super accommodating to their needs. Even if our waiter didn't know the answer, he would go check and get back to us. The dosa was perfectly thin and super flavorful. The veggie pakoras were crispy and not done in the fritter style that some places do that can often be doughy. The garlic naan was thin and crispy, not dense at all. All of the dishes had tons of flavor and spice with thick, luxurious sauces. Madaras Grill was on the way when we were heading home after a trip to Northern MA. We looked at the positive Yelp Reviews of the restaurant and decided to give it a try and we're not disappointed. We ordered takeout with Fish Koliwada for appetizers, Goat pepper fry for entree with tandoori roti and naan bread. The pickup was ready on time and the server was friendly. The Fish Koliwada is a Bombay style masala battered fried fish (boneless tilapia here). We ordered the spicy version and liked the level of heat. The Goat pepper fry was a chettinad style, succulent goat meat (bone-in) cubes cooked in a south Indian style peppercorn sauce. Although delicious, it was a bit too oily for our liking and extremely spicy although we specifically ordered medium spice level. The cooler near the pickup counter displayed Meetha Paan which was tempting to resist, especially since one does not usually see them in most restaurants. We got a few pieces and they were refreshing. Overall Madaras Grill offers a decently good option for Indian food and I would definitely come back to explore rest of the menu. read more

I used to get take out from here a lot when I worked down the street from there, but this was the first time I dined in. I'm not sure what I was waiting for to actually dine in! The food was freshly prepared and delicious. There are restaurants where, when spicy is requested, they don't believe you and bring it medium. But not here, my son likes his food spicy and they delivered. My son tried ours, which were medium, and he said there was a difference. The portions are generous. The bar itself is beautiful and ornate. Everyone working was friendly and helpful. The only I will say, and it was not uncomfortable enough to complain about, was the dining room temperature. It fluctuated between blowing nice warm air and cold air. When the cold air was blowing it would become a little uncomfortable, but then the warm air kicked back on. It was 14 degrees outside so if you go on a cold night like that wear or a bring a layer or two. Otherwise I highly recommend enjoying a nice warm meal from Madras Grill! read more

Went here for the special dinner buffet last month and WOW! I hope they do them more often. It is absolutely delicious and fun and a fabulous deal at $17.95!!! Particularly good for people: - no allergies/restrictions (very minimal signage). - happy to try food without knowing what it is. - likes spicy food. It's not overpowering but it is quite spicy. - not expecting "typical" dishes - no chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, etc. - not in a hurry - they seem a little flustered and some people seem eager to get the check, and they now have a wait for larger parties. The bathrooms are not gender-neutral but they are individual in the same hallway, and look accessible. The food is amazing and I'm very glad I went!! I came here with my significant because a friend (who is Indian descendant herself) talked very highly of Madras. The atmosphere is warm, which draws a lot of families in the restaurant. My bf had a lot of questions about certain beers and dishes and the waiters were very helpful and very attentive. The chicken tasted amazing and the Naan bread. My bf is obsessed with garlic Naan and he loved this one. I am a big fan of the sweet Naan bread and this one didn't taste artificial like at other Indian restaurants that I've been to. Stopped here for a dinner with family and friends and I was impressed. Service was quick and we didn't have to wait long to get our food even though it was a busy Saturday night. I tried 3 different types of soups (mutton nenjelumbu, nattu kozhi rasam and hot and sour chicken soup) and I liked the mutton soup the most. It was one of the best I have had. I also tried fish fry, kothu paratha, chicken vindaloo and karaikudi lamb. I liked all of them. we headed to the Indian restaurant located in a trip mall in Chelmsford. Parking was easy and the restaurant was quite empty when we arrived at noon. We were quickly seated by a booth near the buffet stations. The decor was modern and the ambiance is great. There were Indian adorning but not as intricate and overwhelming as other restaurants that boasts purple and gold paintings on walls that sometimes can appear cheesy. The food area was very clean and the menu items were well labeled. It was definitely a step up than what we were accustomed to in our Lowell restaurant. There were the usual staple dishes that the Mo loves such as chicken tiki masala and chicken biryani rice dish. My favorite dish was the fish koliwada, which is a Bombay style masala fried fish garnished with fresh herbs and lemon. I've never had it in any of my other Indian buffet experiences, usually just the tandoori chicken is served. I also liked the egg curry which is a whole hard boiled egg in a curry. It was something different that I've never seen or had before, (and we have had many different Indian buffets in our lifetime.) I was slightly disappointed that there were no korma dishes but there were a variety of vegetarian dishes with eggplants, okra and lentils to satisfy many customers. Service was a bit slow as we had plates of dishes piled on our table and our water glasses were empty for most of the time. The waiter brought us over dosa crepes sans the usual potato filling we were used to. I'm not sure if that is part of their usual buffet because no one else received the dosas. (Although dosas are standard at the Pongal in Billerica.) I'm usually too stuffed to try any Indian desserts and I'm not a fan of the usual offerings of Indian rice pudding or gulab jam, fried cheese balls soaked in syrup. One thing that did catch my eye were the frozen orange kulfi, homemade ice-cream made with condensed and evaporated milk. The orange kulfis were beautifully presented in an intact orange shell with just the top missing. The creamy dessert was a great ending to a delicious meal. As we were leaving, the restaurant quickly filled up with other Indian families. At one of the table, some of the teenagers were wearing Exeter hoodies, one can assume they traveled quite a bit to dine at this establishment. But when my family got there, that was not the case. They were forced to eat at the pricey, poor tasting food in an unhygienic environment. People were taking second helpings using dirty hands. We went there on Nov. 26th 2020 for their weekend buffet. We were shocked to see the bill. They charged us $24.95 per person. Outrageous! The food was definitely not worth the price. What made me mad was, the online menu does not show any prices. I feel we were tricked. They also charged us default tax of 7.002%. I have to find out what this tax is.
