I was going order a samosa chaat, but then I saw other customers (dine-in) enjoying live Pani Puri, which a staff member was freshly preparing those bite size spicy apps in the dining area. I decided to order Pani Puri (10 for $9.99 plus tax), but instead got the ingredients to go, so I could enjoy the DIY version at home. The ingredients were packaged and bagged up, including 10 crispy fried balls (shells), curry potato filling mixture, tamarind, & spicy flavored water. When I got home, I began making my own pani puri one-by-one, filling each bite size crispy ball with the filling and adding the tamarind & flavored water and eating each savory spicy pani puri in one bite. I finished all 10 pani puris in about 10 minutes, but it was a bit messy to eat. I had some extra filling, water & tamarind left over, which I ended up using as a dip for the tortilla chips I already had on hand. I will come back again for a sandwich and a chaat.

The batter was light - nothing like the thick sludge that usually adorns the deep fried nuggets of vegetable delight. The accompanying tamarind sauce was sweet and clean and the mint-cilantro suitably refreshing. Lovey got garlic naan and saag paneer. Smooth and creamy, the saag was exactly as hoped for and the garlic naan was chewy, warm and toothsome. Dessert was carrot halwa. Hard to believe carrots make such an excellent warm dessert but they do. Richly satisfying with just the right touch of sweetness. We look forward to returning and sampling the rest of the menu!

Although there were other guests there--many of whom appeared to be regulars--the bartender spent most of his time chatting with them and largely ignored me. I had to ask three separate times before I finally received service. When my meal arrived, it was nowhere near the quality or portion I have come to expect. The Mixed Grill, which has always included generous portions of lamb, chicken, and shrimp, consisted almost entirely of chicken, with only about two small pieces of lamb and a single shrimp. It was a dramatic difference from what has been served for years. I politely mentioned this to the bartender, and his response was simply, "Tough times, less food." I found that response both dismissive and disappointing. If portions have been reduced, customers should not be paying the same premium prices without any acknowledgment. After years of consistently great meals, this was genuinely sad to experience. Spending nearly $75 on a meal that felt significantly diminished in both quality and value is hard to justify. Because of my long history with this restaurant, I may give it one more chance, but based on this visit, I cannot recommend it. It was a very disappointing experience from both a service and food standpoint.

The prices are moderate high. I stopped by Choice Indian Restaurant for dinner takeout very recently. I ordered the Veg Makhanwala ($17.99 plus tax) and a Bhakhri Pizza ($11.99 plus tax), which was all set and bagged to go in about 10 minutes. I did not order basmati rice which would've been a $4.99 extra charge. Most independent Indian & Thai restaurants in the area include rice with their curries. I headed back to the house to enjoy my food. I quick boiled some macaroni (instead of rice) to go with the Veg Makhanwala. This curry dish had a mix of vegetables including peas, green beans, cauliflower, onions, bell pepper, tomatoes, and spices in a medium spicy creamy tomato sauce. This curry dish was pretty good over macaroni pasta. The Bhakhri Pizza was a 6" round hard crispy crust topped with a sweet & spicy tomato sauce, peppers, onion, and shredded cheese.
