Not good at all from service to food. Sat outside, that was beautiful on a warm fall day with beautiful fall trees to enjoy. Our waitress was a bit ditsy. Brought the wrong entree for my friend and said we confused her when we had asked about the item she brought. Also, I ordered fish and chips. Fish brought alone with chips to follow. Breading on fish super heavy. Crab chowder was way way too thick and devoid of any crab flavor or sighting of crab. Balsamic vinegrette dressing tasted like it had cumin in it???? Strange. Also had crab cake slider, was cold. I am certain there are far better restaurants in Occoquan, find them. You will be glad. read more

I had out of town guest and wanted to bring the to a nice seafood dinner, boy did I make a mistake! The bathrooms were disgusting, they messed up our orders and served me cold crab legs not once, but twice! When I say cold, I mean they were ice cold. One time cold was bad enough, but to bring them a second time is unacceptable. One of my guest had to wait for her dinner, long after everyone else's were there. The salads came after our meal, very unorganized. After my legs came cold the second time, I told them to take it back and I would pay for my soda and potatoes. They didn't charge me for the crab legs, so I will give them that. I would NOT recommend them. read more

This is the perfect mix of casual and fine dining. You can feel comfortable here in Saturday night eating in jeans, business attire, or fashionably dressed. Very warm and welcoming! The prices are good given the food's great. Market value for fresh catch, appetizers 8-15 dollars, I think 6-8 for soup, 14-25 dollars for most of the meals. I ordered the grilled salmon and veggies, both of which were really good. One of us got the steak and mashed potatoes and really liked that. The salads were fresh, too. We came on a Saturday night with a party of 4, and I called ahead to ask about whether the noise from the bar would be distracting (answer, no, it's totally fine) and made a reservation because I was calling anyway. I'm glad I did - the people waiting up front were told it was a 40 minute wait. The hostess and the server were both very nice, and our server was attentive without being annoying. She kept on the water re-fills, checked to make sure we were doing okay, and promptly gave us anything we asked for. The only thing that was even slightly irritating was having to go into the bar area - which is through a door and is more noisy - to go to the bathroom. Towards the end of our meal they seemed to be closing up the dining area in favor of the bar, so I guess they try to minimize either experience marring the other. All in all, a good night and we'd readily come back. Maybe when it's warmer and the deck is open, as that view of the water looks great. read more

The food was amazing! We sat right next to the window and the view was great. We saw all the boats come in and the geese swimming along the river. We had the peel and eat shrimp and seafood pizza for an app and they were both delicious. I had the lobster mac & cheese for dinner - there was whole lobster claws in the pasta! My husband had the surf & turf and the lobster tail was enormous with more meat than he expected. Highly recommend this place esp for special occasions as it is a bit pricey. read more

I went here for a girl's night out. We chose Madigan's because we had both been here previously and really enjoyed our last visits. Not this time. No, not at all. The hostess was pleasant, the waiter was prompt with our water and to take our order. The water was served in a plastic cup, much like a Tippy's Taco cup. The waiter did not know whether or not certain drinks were served, and he could not tell us much about the menu. I ordered the Coconut Tilapia over wild rice with vegetable and a house salad. The salads came out first, extremely small and the vegetables, especially the cucumbers, were not very fresh. My friend had asked for no onions on her salad, and she had 5 rings of onions on it. The fish tasted like it had previously been frozen. It seemed as though it had been heated up plain, had a little processed coconut sprinkled on top, broiled, and then a bit of pre-mix pina colada sauce added on top. (The kind of sauce you get at the grocery store in powder form for mixed drinks). 1 chunk of canned pineapple was on top of the fish. AWFUL! The wild rice? Uncle Ben's! I took a bite of mine, my friend took a bite of hers, we looked at each other and shouted it out. There was no mistaking the taste of Uncle Ben's wild rice. It was overcooked and dry. The veggie - 3 Slices of carrot. Slices, as you would get with a vegetable peeler. I ordered white sangria to go with the dinner. I'm not sure there was any wine or alcohol of any sort in my drink. Due to our previous experiences, we had planned to stay, eat our dinner, have drinks and dessert, and then go to the bar for music. We barely ate our food, skipped the drinks and left as fast as we possible could. No more drinks, no dessert, no music. This was an experience I will NOT repeat. read more

My husband and I went here for the first time Saturday night and we were not disappointed! My husband ordered the cowboy steak and it came out sizzling hot and tasted delicious (he gave me a little bite ). I had the crab legs which were seasoned to the "T". While we were finishing up our dinner we'd heard the sound of an awesome band, well when we were getting ready to leave we saw people dancing and having a mighty good time. This place was recommended as a "local joint with great food" by staff at Holiday Inn Express in Woodbridge. We loved our meals/drinks on the deck of the bar (great scenery, right on the river, live music was not too loud -- thank you). My husband and I shared our orders of Crab Cakes, Swordfish Kabobs (on skewers), and Onion Rings. Fabulous food (and we are foodies!)! We went today with my little family of 4. The place is a little older but very clean. The host and waiter were pleasant and attentive. We ordered popcorn shrimp for the children and a fish sandwich and crab appetizer. The appetizer had two mini crab cake patties that were delicious and the sandwich was absolutely incredible. We have been here twice and both times have had a great experience. I will go again. Went for husbands birthday in Jan and it was wonderful. Great service, great food and so good with kids. I don't care what others have said in previous reviews. Came here two weeks ago with my husband and we had the nicest server (Dre). He was very attentive. We didn't know what to order and went with what our server suggested which was the cowboy steak. My husband and I ate every last bit of the most succulent steak ever! It was cooked to perfection. After dinner our waiter asked us if we wanted dessert. I usually pass on dessert but I went ahead and looked at the menu anyway and found it difficult to choose from because they all sounded so good, but I settled on the bread pudding. Wow, you would think that the seafood would be fresh at a waterfront restaurant! Had the clam po'boy, tasteless and wilted (old maybe) lettuce. My guest had scallops, again tasteless, missing seasoning, but loaded with melted yellow cheese. The best part of the meal were onion rings. I brought a large group to Madigan's for Sunday dinner. We totaled 32 people. Our service was spot on. The meals were delivered to the tables, in a timely fashion, so that no one had to wait. And none of the checks were mixed up. Quite a feat for 32 people! The view of the river only added to the charm of a lovely evening out with friends. We have ordered Togo from Madigans multiple times and every time our order is wrong. They kept telling us that their website menu is out of date and they will update it soon...Today it seemed like they had updated the menu with new items labeling them "new". So I ordered the Cobb salad and this is what I got. I was super confused because it was nothing like the description. I was also charged $16.00. Rushing to get back to work in asked the bartender if this actually was the Cobb salad and he said yes it was so I left and went back to work. I've never given a bad review but it's just getting upsetting. The Cobb salad is originally $10.95. I didn't check my change (which was my fault). I've eaten in the actual dining room and have had a great experience. On top of the order being wrong the person taking the Togo order hung up multiple times on our friend placing the order. Should have ordered from somewhere else at that point. read more

The service was not the greatest. I went there for lunch and chose to sit at the bar. I was the only customer in the whole bar area, so you'd think service would be prompt. That was not the case. I waited more than 5 minutes to have my order taken. This was after a bartender brought me water and a beer. The food came out in a good time. My beer was empty for almost 7 minutes before someone showed up to ask if I wanted another. I declined. After I finished eating, it was another 7-8 minutes before someone showed back up. I asked for the check. A few minutes later, the check was given. I waited over 10 minutes for my card to be run. During that time, I asked 2 different people if they were able to do it. They said they weren't. The last said he'd go and find someone to run my card. Finally, somebody showed up and around the 13 minute mark, and asked if I needed help. I said I'd like my card run. He went on to say something about the place always getting busy around the same time, and how this wasn't my fault. I'm not quite sure what he meant by that. I just kept my mouth shut to avoid exploding. He handed me my card and just walked away. I turned and walked out, disgusted with my experience there. read more

Not deserving of the 2.5 stars we saw it has here. Unseasonably 80+degree February night, while coming back to NVA from business down south we decided to stop in Occoquan. Never having been here we looked for a place for dinner. Not many places open and almost reluctantly we came here. Surprised pleasantly I can say. Outstanding friendly service with real world honesty about menu items. Reasonably priced wines, my wife had the Reuben and loved it. She's real picky when it comes to Reubens. I had fish tacos 2 with flounder (amazing) and one with Mahi Mahi on recommendation of our waiter. Next time getting all founder. Fair price great ambiance on the deck and good food. We were excited to eat here because it's on the water, it has a big beautiful deck and a appetizing menu. Unfortunately, the food was subpar. The All-American Cobb Salad wasn't much of a Cobb salad because it was made up of all romaine (no iceberg), barely any avocado, no onion and a few blue cheese crumbles; not worth $11. My husband got the big fish haddock sandwich and it was served on a hoagie bun with a piece of lettuce. Not impressed.
