[[HIGHLIGHT]]This is definitely an old school Italian place, with dark wood furniture and oversized pasta portions (no complaints from me on that!).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The pasta is always cooked exactly right (it's really hard to do pappardelle right as it's such a big noodle and can easily become a wet mess that tears apart on your fork, but each noodle here stayed together and didn't break apart), and the sauces are distinct and flavorful. From the standard sauces like alfredo, to the unique like a lamb ragout, they have deep flavor that keeps you eating until your stomach says no. The waiter was friendly and attentive, engaging my kids as much as me. We also went with the bruschetta, which was tasty (particularly the mozzarella) but I wish had at least one more slice of bread to serve as an appetizer for four. Again, Friday Feb 13, we were at DRoccos for lunch, it was busy and the food was again fantastic, delicious. Apparently this restaurant has been under new management since last summer so I can't speak to how it was before, but our dinner experience was good. It took a little bit to get seated despite it not being busy but staff was very friendly and the food tasted really good. I liked that they switched up the standard olive oil for your starter bread by topping it with pesto, delicious! We had a caesar salad, spinach ravioli and penne vodka. The sauce was creamy and just the right amount and not too thin. Pasta was tender and very tasty. We didn't have any of the alcoholic drinks that night but their signature cocktail menu looked really good. This was my first time visiting despite having been to Occoquan many times (very cute area if you haven't been before). It doesn't appear that they offer reservations but we didn't need one for a Sunday evening. Went in on a Tuesday for "Happy Hour". The bar down stairs opens at 5 o'clock. As we entered there was a sign that said, Why should happy hour be only one hour? My thoughts exactly. Glasses of house wine were advertised as $6.00. So , I ordered a house chardonnay. After receiving the wine my friend asked the bar tender how much my wine was? He said he didn't know, I said $6.00. I really cannot express how much I loved my experience at D'Rocco's! With it being my first time in Occoquan, this restaurant has me already planning my next visit. I came for the Valentine's Day dinner special - $75 dollars for two entrees, salads, dessert, and a glass of one of their house wines. Talk about a deal! The portions were large, flavorful, and tasty. The Chicken Alfredo was creamy, cheesy, and blended perfectly with the grilled chicken pieces. I tried a bit of the Chicken Parm and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the juicy, crispy breading. Under new ownership so ignore reviews before about September 2024. The place has had a complete menu and kitchen overhaul. And my review has gone from 1 star to 4 stars. Lots of menu options and it includes some items that aren't as common, like veal. My meal was a bit over salted and my salad over dressed, but I still ate everything without regrets. I walked in on a Tuesday and was the only person sitting inside. I requested a seat by the window and was able to get some light from outside overlooking the back lot. It was quiet. I ordered the chicken parmigiana dinner-apparently they have a sub as well. It came out pretty quickly. The chicken tasted like a fresh cutlet and the linguine was cooked well with a flavorful sauce. The bread on the side was fresh but I couldn't tell what the yellow on it was-no flavor there. Overall it was fine. This place was an experience lol my family and I went to old town, with no plan on where to eat. We just happened to park out front of this location so we decided to give it a try. They did seat us right away but everything was straight up mid. The decor is out dated. They did have outside seating which was nice until it started raining. Luckily they had umbrellas. Also, our server was ready with an indoor table which I found super nice. Overall, our server did a good job. He did forget some items and even got an order completely wrong but he was able to redeem himself. Some of the food was just so basic, but I see the potential. Just not my cup of tea. Came here today visiting from Chesterfield VA. We were seated right away! Such a small town Occoquan and the wait staff and owner Jim were so nice! We got the fried mozzarella, the Crab and lobster ravioli, spaghetti and meatballs, and the steak and cheese. Wow is all I can say. The marinara sauce was so freaking good. The ravioli was filled up on the inside and I just kept staring at it as I ate it saying "man this is so good". We chatted with the owner who is a super nice and humble guy, he's dressed like everyone else and bussing tables which was so great to see, and he gave us free cannolis as a thank you. This is one of those places that I think is kind of like an upscale Olive garden. I hate to say that but the food was just okay. We were sold on this place by the rave reviews about the calamari, however, the calamari was sold out. No big deal. It must have been that good right? Turns out the food was just mildly okay Italian food. We ordered the crab and lobster ravioli as well as the chicken alfredo. We got both a soup and salad with our meal, a bit of an upcharge. I felt like for the upcharge I could have used a bit more salad. I got the Italian salad dressing and that was delicious. I just could have used a little more salad to go with it. The soup was tomato basil and the soup itself was good but it was very acidic. Still, it needed a little more of something to cut the acidity. For our meals; the chicken alfredo which was delicious and the lobster and crab ravioli. I think the Alfredo was nice and rich, creamy and buttery. It was definitely fattening but delicious. My crab and lobster ravioli was just okay though. The lobster and crab puree inside of the ravioli was tasty. The rose sauce was just far too acidic and by the end of the meal I didn't want to eat anymore because my throat was burning. The garlic bread did have good flavor, but it was a little overcooked. It was just a little too crispy and could use a little more garlic and parsley and everything else that makes garlic bread delicious. Wasn't terrible, but wasn't anything to rave about. All the while this was happening, the owner of the restaurant was sitting a couple seats over. He was clearly intoxicated and was talking about how his wife was going to be upset when he got home because she would smell the alcohol. He was very loud and it made for a little bit of a less pleasant atmosphere. Because the food was just okay and there wasn't anything spectacular to rave about, I wouldn't choose to return here. Upon exiting the restroom the staff members and/or owners were blocking the stairs outside the bathrooms and told us that they were not public restrooms, that they were for customers and we were NOT customers. Usually closed on Mondays we were pleasantly surprised to find them open today. It smells like an old building when you enter but you quickly adapt. The food was decent, so an average rating from me. The service was pretty slow in all regards (from seating to serving to checks arriving and being able to leave) but I think that was due to the holiday schedule and being understaffed while serving a large group with an already surprisingly full house. What I got/tried: D'Rocco's "Honey Stung" Supreme - 4* a decent size and great flavor. I appreciated the flexibility of the staff to swap out one of the toppings. The hot honey wasn't that hot, which was a bummer, but the meat made up for that lack in flavor. The flatbread did get a bit soggy on the middle. I'm not sure if that's a usual occurrence or from the fact that I was with a larger group and it might've been sitting around a little while other dishes were finished. Cannoli - I don't think it's fair for me to give a rating as I did not order this dessert myself. I am not a cannoli person but I wanted to try it again because I *want* to like them. Alas. There was nobody at the host/hostess stand and I could not find anyone working inside despite looking around the dining room. I could hear people talking loudly inside the kitchen but didn't try that door. However, my experience at the grille next door was very good. Someone welcomed me the minute I walked in the door. The service was friendly, courteous, and quick. Their Italian salad was excellent. Fresh greens, sun-dried tomatoes, black olives, feta, and a tangy dressing served on the side. The spinach and garlic ravioli was delicious, a generous portion, and came with terrific garlic bread. I ordered with marinara sauce, which was tasty, but Alfredo and rose' sauce are also options. The dinner was very reasonably priced. The main downside was a limited dessert menu. NOT wheelchair accessible as listed. We parked and rolled a wheelchair a few blocks to get there only to find a stairwell for an entrance. When I asked why it was listed as accessible, the waiter said there was a different entrance but didn't offer to unlock it. Yes it was locked! The other entrance was also not accessible as there was no ramp and was a few inches above the sidewalk. I could have transferred my wife across the threshold of the worker had offered to unlock the door, but at this point, why bother?
