We were walking around Occoquan, saw the riverfront setup at Madigan's, and that was pretty much the decision. Got seated outside right away with a view of the water and live music playing. Great start to the night. Our server was on it the whole time. I'm terrible with names and didn't catch his, but he was attentive without hovering. Drinks first: smoked old fashioned for me and it was fantastic. My fiancée got a rosé and was happy with it. The menu made it a hard call, a lot of stuff I wanted to try. We started with the corn fritters, which I did not touch because I'm not a corn guy. My fiancée destroyed them and said they were delicious, so take that for what it's worth. I went with the burger and fries. Cooked exactly how I asked, and the fries were great. Zero complaints. Then I tried one of her fish tacos and immediately regretted my entire order. Those things were amazing. Crispy, and genuinely the reason I'm coming back. The homemade chips she got with them were also really good. 5 stars. We'll be back, and I'm ordering the tacos. read more

Sorry to report this ranked as one of the worst meals ever. Friday night, anniversary, 6:00 pm reservation. Almost empty. Not much appealed to us on the menu. The corn fritter appetizer with hot honey was good. The fish sandwich and crab sandwich (on stale, grill pressed brioche) were just edible and extremely overpriced. This is the first time I couldn't bite through a potato chip!!! When the server finally came back to ask how our food was, and I tried to explain why it was inedible, I was at loss for the right word and he provided it - stale. Guessing this was not the first time he'd had a complaint, but to his credit, he brought each of us an order of onion rings "on the house" (why that would be I don't know since the chips were included with the sandwich - probably an up charge substitution). They were hot but not much else to recommend them. The venue was kind of musty and though we were seated at a window as requested for the river view, the middle window was so dirty you couldn't really see clearly through it. The food was pretty good; my husband and I had the stuffed flounder. Our experience was excellent, especially the service, and we had great service the night we went. We also sat at the waterfront, which was pleasant since the weather was mild that evening. The area itself is so very quaint and beautiful. My husband and I took a short stroll after dinner to take in the beautiful architecture. I highly recommend this area. The area does charge an additional tax; the Town of Occoquan adds its own meals tax of 3.5% to food and meals sold by restaurants within the town limits. I have been here multiple times, they have several parking spots in front of the restaurant but there is some street parking as well and some parking under the bridge nearby. We've made reservations each time, usually for a weekday evening but it never seems too busy. Service is always pretty decent and they're friendly and attentive. I've liked everything I've gotten so far (their wings are delicious and worth the wait). I've only gotten 2 items out of the 3 or 4 times that I've been here that I wasn't a fan off. The Caesar Salad with Salmon (Salmon was cooked nicely but there was just something about the salad that didn't taste right) and their Nautical Gnocchi (a little too salty for my taste). Went in May after the Sunday brunch crowd. They had a few specials going on which included ribs, fish and chips, and oysters. We were seated in the back with a view of the water and had no trouble getting started with orders. The fried oyster appetizer was excellent, and the stuffed flounder. I did not try the crab cakes but it's definitely a crowd favorite and was enjoyed in our party. The ribs were not good- on the crispy side and not the most tender. I had the pleasure of having brunch at Madigan's Waterfront this weekend. I joined a few new friends at the waterside seating, we could not have asked for a more beautiful day. I called earlier to ensure that I could cover the tab for a group that volunteered to assist in a cleanup that morning in the Town of Occoquan. I had to stop at another meeting down the road and rushed back and forth. The restaurant Manager, Heather, was very pleasant and kept me informed in order for me to be there before they left. Heather brought Kenny to meet me at the door as our table server. He was very courteous and terrific at providing a top tier service that I always receive here and expect wherever I spend my money when patronizing a business. I have always received great service from everyone here at all times and shifts of the day. The food has always been on par as well. I believe the crux of being here may be the veil of dismalness and lack of TLC. You can smell it and it isn't the poo in the river. When observing the restrooms, trash dumpster and overall condition of the dining room/bar areas, improvements can be made and escalate the business in more ways than they can imagine. To make money (for the owners and employees) you need to spend money. Menu is good and solid, keep the selection and quality. The drinks are more at the Tiki Bar than inside. The staff are terrific, keep the ones that enjoy being there and have the best ones like Kenny, Mike, Heather, and Lenny lead and manage staff and service. Someone independent needs to manage inventory. Money is being drained by too many freebies from the staff and could be used towards a decent toilet to sit on and stall doors to lock. There are great events that take place here like live bands, solo musicians, line dancing, karaoke and others. The plusses: The prices were okay, and the food quality was good. The Mad Burger I ate was very well seasoned with good crisp bacon, while the Ribeye sandwich was strictly knife and fork fare after a bite or two (it was a mess to eat but tasty.) The accompanying baked potato was on the cold side of room temperature. Housemade chips were crisp. The Meh: Service was slow and uneven despite only three tables occupied but it was friendly. I had to ask for my drink (coffee) a third time before it was remembered. But the waitress was very nice and engaging. The WTF: Halfway through the meal they cut on a karaoke machine in the bar section. There is a wall blocking the view from the dining area but it only extends half the length of the restaurant, so you are effectively in the bar when it comes to the noise. Bad karaoke is not amusing or entertaining unless you have been in a bar for far too long. So go early or go elsewhere if you don't want to hear Sweet Caroline loudly tortured. We held our wedding reception upstairs and Andi was fantastic! Everything was reasonably priced and probably the best I saw when looking for venues, and the food and service was just as good as other places we checked out. We easily held 85 upstairs, the servers were great and the bar kept up with our rowdy crowd. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to host their event! Fabulous, Flirty and Fifty Hawaiian Birthday Party My dear friend, C threw a big birthday bash for her Big 50! She booked the upper level, the top floor, with the servers and buffet lunch a part of the package provided by the restaurant. It was a Hawaiian Themed Party. All the guests were dressed in tropical clothing. There were tables set up for about 60-70 guests. The room is set up in many tiers, with the most upper tier holding the bar and where the hot buffet was set up. Overview of our visit, the food was delicious, the staff were friendly and the party room/event space was lovely. The restaurant was in a very charming town, that I'd love to explore another time. I will caution you, parking appeared to be tight. Even with that challenge, you should still venture out to this lovely restaurant. read more

Nothing happened. Service is so so but the food is awful. Small plate and very unsightly presentation. Vegetables are not fresh but messy. The captain platter is a joke. We came for fish but feel like the 2 tiny pieces of fish were not as good as frozen dinner. Baked potato was perhaps baked for 24 hours with thick crust as hard as rock. The restaurant smells like restroom. Good location by the river. But What a shame! No quality. Best I can do is to share an honest review and hopefully save you some money.Two of us spent $137($112+$25 tip) but it's the most expensive junk food and worse dining experience we've ever had. My daughter and her friend just visited your establishment today April 15, 2026 around 12:13pm and allegedly no one acknowledged them or seated them and it was like 13 minutes they waited on the bench by the hostess stand with staff clearly seeing them, so they left. The rib eye sandwich was very lacking in meat. Chips were stale. Beer glass had lipstick on it. Music was going in and out causing a terrible ambiance. Husband had the steak sandwich which after a few bites he had to stop eating. We both left over 90% of our food uneaten. Not worth the $50. Our server was lovely and extremely attentive, and so was the host. On the other hand a different employee, possibly a manager, was cleaning a table near us and asked my husband very rudely not to lean and mess around in the chairs (he was stretching for ten seconds just stretching his arms backwards with all four legs of the chair on the ground) felt as if some of the employees were just looking for a problem on a slow day. We recently held a joint birthday dinner party at "The Landing" area at Madigan's and it was superb. They allowed us to come early to put a banner decoration, some balloons and flowers in bud vases at the tables. The guests had a dinner choice of salmon, chicken Alfredo, or steak - and they all raved over them. Then they sent the waitress out to tell us that outside drinks were not allowed, and she made us throw them away at the table. It was slow and after lunch hour. We were placed on a waitlist, which in general is fine. However, it's not great to wait over 40 minutes after we're told the wait is 20 minutes. Food took forever and one of us was served the wrong side. The food itself was mediocre, the fried gnocchi tasted like canned food. This restaurant will also charge you a 4% credit card fee instead of just rolling that into their menu prices like every other establishment. The only reason I give this place 2 stars instead of 1 is because the waitress was very nice and the ambiance was enjoyable. read more
