The restaurant was empty.. They have this giant menu but told us they could only serve hamburgers and fries. Because the owners were "away"... So that is what we ordered. The hamburger was okay and they gave us the smallest portion of fries. It was sad... We took some shots of vodka and realized they were watered down. The food was decent, but the staff was extremely rude. They acted as if we were a significant inconvenience and a nuisance to them the entire time that my party and I were eating here. The waitress huffed and puffed every time any of us asked for a refill or asked about our order. Then when asked for silverware, she rolled her eyes and walked away, only to come back and throw the silverware at the table and storm back off. I ordered a salad as part of my meal and after I received my entree I asked for my salad. The server replied "we're not making salads anymore, it's too busy in here", then stormed off. I've been going to Sam's off and on since 1994. As many others have said, it is a Quantico institution. Despite changes through the years, the ambiance remains classic. That said the new owners have expanded the menu with an eclectic and traditional mix of dishes that include everything from pork chop and lasagna specials to Korean choices. I waited an hour and 20 minutes for subpar food and non-carbonated soda. They only have 1 person cooking and one person serving. Place was halfway full so it was super slow. I highly recommend that they hire more staff to fulfill the demand. I understand that hiring could be a genuine issue for this place, but in that case they have to work with some type of pep. I ordered the French dip (sandwich) which is supposed to have cheese, it was not on there. Also, there were 2 pieces of roast beef on the sandwich. From other places I've had a French dip, this was the worst. The aus ju sauce that came with it smelled and tasted like there was maple syrup in it. I don't know if that's what it's made with but I've never had anywhere else taste like this. Ended up having to get the food in a to go tray and I was late for a meeting. Ate here with the family today. I went here a couple years ago and enjoyed the food. We went in ordered our food. Buffalo Chicken Sandwich, Chicken Parmesan Sub, and 12 Golden Shrimp. The food was delivered promptly and presented well. The mashed potatoes were instant and the Chicken Parmesan wasn't a typical breaded chicken as expected. It was chopped grilled chicken. Then the kids ordered Chocolate Mousse cake for dessert. Probably the best part of their dining experience. The servers turned over in the middle of our meal without a mention. Came in for lunch today, was kinda lost just standing there so we just took a seat. I ordered the crispy chicken sandwich and a diet coke. The sandwich came out hot and crispy. They looked like chicken tenders put together on a bun. Lol. The fries were just fries, the soda was out of a fountain so it had that weird taste to it. Free refills though. The tables were sticky and looked grimy. That's the only thing I didn't like, the place was dimmed as well so it looked dark. I will be back for their BBQ pizza. I heard it was good. ATMOSPHERE-When we sat down I had to brush crumbs off my food stained seat. It doesn't feel very clean here, sad to say. Even walking back to the bathroom you had to walk past the nasty food grimed cart that buses the tables. The bathroom was surprisingly nice though! And we loved all the Marine Corps memorabilia very motivating! FOOD- We had the "Big Sam Pizza" , Buffalo Wings wet, and Cobb Salad. *Sadly the wings were dry and not very appetizing. The amount of garlic used was enough to turn me away from the dish. The pasta just broke apart just trying to get a fork full. Totally in inviting and gross. The mozzarella sticks were plain and nothing to report on. The bbq wings had a mix of flavors and although not terrible I would not order them again. My order Buffalo chicken pizza "10" but according to them they gave a medium so I paid for the "12" price of $12.70. ( It's not fault they made a mistake, they should addressed the mistake before I get charge). Sweet Tea according to the menu the price is $1.95 (no refills, just one drink) I was charge $4 something Three item appetizer combo $11.25 (correct price) And 11% sales tax when it should be 6%! read more

Review Filthy place, bad food and service, fake tax rate on the bills. The restaurant is filthy. Mold was growing around the AC vent located directly above our table and there at least a dozen water-stained ceiling tiles, most with mildew growing around them. The chairs were upholstered and stained. The tables and chair arm rests were so sticky that one table used Clorox wipes to clean them and still couldn't remove the sticky residue. The food was subpar and the kitchen looked extremely unclean. It honestly looked like it hadn't been cleaned in several weeks (just counters wiped down). We only stayed because we had a large group of about 30 that needed to eat together. The place was large enough to seat us all, so we stayed. I had the chicken breast salad with the Italian dressing. All the dressings are "home made". The dressing was pretty bad, but tolerable. The hardbolied egg still had a bit of shell on one side, so that was momentarily uncomfortable when I bit into it. The lettuce, carrots, tomato, and cucumber were not fresh at all, but tolerable enough- not tasty. Despite how disgusting the place was and the quality of the food, I wouldn't have bothered writing this review if it hadn't been for the bill. After eating, you apparently just walk up to the bar and tell them what you ate and you are charged a random dollar amount. If we were supposed to get a check or be told when to pay, the waitress never informed us, she simply stopped coming to the table. I had a $9 salad which should have come to $9.54 after tax, but he charged me $10 even. I asked about the discrepancy and he told me there was an additional 5% store sales tax on top of the local, county, and city combined sales tax, so the tax was 11% total. He said it was a neighborhood tax. This is a downright lie and I pulled up the .gov site and even another tax site and typed in the restaurant's full address to show it was only 6% combined TOTAL. He told me I was wrong and showed me some document about how much property tax he pays. It was irrelevant. Even if the tax was 11%, my bill should have been $9.99. I asked for a receipt of the item I paid for, so he wrote it out as a $9 salad with $1 tax. Nearly every person in our group received poor service, mishandled food (the man literally licked his fingers to get some plastic bags to separate and then touched somebody's sandwich and expected them to eat and pay for it. I hope that coworker also writes a review), and was overcharged or told a different price than another person who got the same item. Beers did not have prices listed, so it was a game of roulette for the folks who ordered them, with the price varying each customer. All in all, this was not a good experience nor a good restaurant. I don't recommend it for even a drinking spot due to the filthy and unmaintained conditions in conjunction with the suspect billing practices. read more

I often do sam's takeout for their shrimp greek salad. I feel as you get your money's worth. Although I haven't tried much of anything else I know that they have not let me down on the way the prep their salad and grill their shrimp. They do not skimp. I gave it 4 stars because the pizza was great!! If you like a thin crust, with crispy edges, and lots of cheese than you have found your place! I wish I could say the same about their homemade fried mushrooms. The batter was very blan and the mushrooms were rubbery. Not impressed at all. Maybe they could try a beer batter on them and some seasoning or even just some salt. Anyways, we ordered them as our appetizer and we were really worried about the pizza to follow after, but much to our surprise the pizza was wonderful and will most definitely be back for another. Possibly some wings too. A lot of surrounding tables order wings and those looked great too! I will just stay away from those mushrooms, big thumbs down on those. read more

I give this four stars but only because of Sam and his staff. I ordered the Sam Burger, medium well, and it came out well done on the outside, RAW in the middle, with a stale bun. The fries were big but they were cold and mushy and tasted coppery, a sign of old oil. I was there for a hail & farewell party and a lot of folks left their food behind...Sam really needs to step into his cooking staff!!! Visited Sam's a couple of times thanks to a gnarly work schedule last week. Needed to watch the Wizard's playoff games but didn't have the time to go off post. I was worried at first, because my experience at a pub up the street was awful. Sam's surprised me. Had the nachos on my first visit. Nachos are the type of thing that can't really be amazing, but can easily be terrible. These were good and its a portion large enough to share, but I'm a selfish bastard so I ate them all. Had the Sam's burger & fries on my next visit. The menu boasts a 1/2 lb. burger and I'm fairly sure that's an exaggeration, but the burger was tasty. Comes with a special sauce that's probably salad dressing. The dude behind the bar is friendly, attentive, and a Wizards fan. He threw me a couple samples of a beer I'd never had (and can't remember the name of) to contrast the Fred Red I was sipping on. Ultimately, it's his service that gets Sam's the 4th star. They kept the place open so me and my compadre could finish watching the game. You have to love that kind of service. Only con is that the DirecTV connection died during the rain. This is a fatal flaw and the grounds for an uprising of true sports fans. Obviously not the fault of the bar, unless you're counting their decision to not go with a wired provider.
