I had a deeply disappointing experience I had at Tun Tavern on Monday, January 19, 2026, at approximately 1:30 PM (1330). As a senior army officer, I value professionalism, discipline, and mutual respect--qualities I unfortunately found entirely lacking in the service provided by my waitress. During my visit, I was subjected to a series of unprofessional behaviors that were both disrespectful and disruptive to the dining environment: Aggressive Mannerisms: The waitress repeatedly slammed dishes and glassware down on my table with unnecessary force. Lack of Discretion: When presenting the check, she loudly yelled out the total amount of the bill in front of other patrons, which was highly inappropriate and unprofessional. Disparate Treatment: I observed her treating other parties with a level of courtesy and attentiveness that was pointedly withheld from me. General Demeanor: Her overall attitude was dismissive and overtly rude throughout the meal. For identification purposes, the server was a female of minority descent, approximately 5 feet tall with a heavy-set build. I have long respected Tun Tavern for its historical significance and its ties to military tradition. However, the treatment I received was inconsistent with the standards of hospitality one would expect from your establishment. I believe it is important for management to be aware of this incident so that it can be addressed through proper training or disciplinary measures. I and my wife chosed to go eat at your establishment, especially with my family service to the United States Marine Corpss (three cousins; retired CSM, SSG (decesased) and enlisted (obligatged tour of duty). I even emailed to museum coordinator and the post. No reply. I seems those especially those people in the Tavern restaurant chose not to show customer service and the mannerisms are were poor among their staff especially the waitress along with the management ignoring the customers. And the Marines want one (Tun Tavern) again in Philadelphia. read more

The only problems I experienced were clearly avoidable: 1) A customer accidentally threw something - I believe his clear retainer or mouthpiece - and the bartender started digging through the trash to find it. He objected, clearly he didn't want her unraveling wadded up napkins, and she stopped. After she pushed the trash can back against the wall, she immediately grabbed the food from the kitchen and took it to the table. Unacceptable and unsanitary. 2) The other server was done cleaning tables and threw the towel to the far side of the bar which was directly in front of me. My luck: she didn't hit the bucket and it landed about 8 inches short. Going back to the food, the Reuben was perfect! Love their home made chips that went with the fish. Fish was nice and crisp and not too salt. Enjoyed their pulled pork sandwich but need a bit more salt. I like that the bbq sauce was sparse so you can taste the pork. Most places drown the sandwich then it just taste like sweet sauce. Came with some cold slaw to balance out the flavor. Tun Tavern is on the second floor of the Marine Corps Museum. There are 6-7 tables plus the bar seating. I was able to make a reservation for six for 12:15 on a Monday. Besides us, it was families at the museum. I had the daily special, a bratwurst on a pretzel roll with warm potato salad. I was really impressed with my choice. The rest of my party ordered the Buffalo chicken wrap, the smash burger, and the Philly cheesesteak. I tried the fried pickles and the Brussels sprouts too; both delicious ! A spot with a lot of history (or modeled off history), Tun is a great option if you want some grub before or after visiting the National Museum of the Marine Corps. My parents and I got seated fairly easily on a Friday right around 1pm. The place was definitely full, but we got a seat after just a few minutes of waiting. They have a short but solid drink list. I got a Devils Backbone to be all local n' stuff. I also got the Reuben, which was the most compact, non-greasy Reuben I've ever gotten. It hit the spot! The side of Old Bay chips was also a nice touch. All food was served in a metal plate or bowl. Our silverware was a little dirty but very quickly replaced by our waitress, who was very apologetic. Forget your expectations of restaurants you find in road side attractions. Usually a museum restaurant is mediocre cafeteria grade food at outrageous prices. This place is different. The prices are reasonable and the food is fresh and good. This is a bonus when you are in a museum. The service was on point and friendly. Of course we are here at 1400 hrs on a Monday, so the place is pretty empty. A great museum, decent beer selection, good food, and great service makes this place a winner. read more

This pub is located inside the Marine Corps Museum on the upper level right next to the cafeteria. The decor and style gets 10*s. It's modeled to look like the original Tun Tavern from Philadelphia where the Marine Corps was founded. The wood paneling, floors and lights have a historical feel to it. I was initially skeptical of the food, thinking that you can't get good food inside a museum. Boy was I wrong. I ordered a burger with kettle fried chips. It was actually juicy and seasoned well. The kettle chips were crisp and fantastic. This place is pretty cool. Next time I'll just come here for lunch with some friends. read more

This lovely establishment is better than a museum restaurant has any right to be. Menu is limited to basic bar food, burgers, fish and chips, chicken tenders. But the burger was an absolute delight, the fries were great, and the service was kind and attentive. We loved the tavern aesthetic and were kind of shocked at how affordable it was after a week of Washington DC dining. We were immediately greeted and taken to a table. They were nice enough to sit us in the corner so we could park our stroller next the table rather than having it across the restaurant. Service was friendly and quick. We ordered a hotdog and fries for our son ($6.95). I tried the hotdog and it was good quality & fries came out hot & crispy. My husband got the Caesar salad ($8.95) with grilled chicken (added $4). Portion size was plenty, but the chicken was dry. I ordered the Chicken Cordon Bleu with the house chips ($10.95). If you order this, I would recommend asking for an additional side of the Dijon because they are a little skimpy on the amount and the top bun had none on it. My chicken was also dry but my sandwich was still fine enough to finish. Chips tasted good & all were crispy; however, some of them were very overseasoned. For the price, you are definitely not getting the quality you are paying for. The ambiance is rustic and the chairs are probably pretty close to an old tavern. You definitely wouldn't want to sit at them for too long, otherwise your bum may be a little sore (ask for a booth!). We will probably be back to visit the museum once they finish it but will probably just go to Devil Dog Diner. read more

OK, this is not the actual tavern, nor is it in Philly - BUT it is on the second floor of one of the best Museums in the United States. My wife and I eat here every time we come visit to see what new items are displayed here and this place never disappoints! I always get the Ruben and she always orders a glass of Jarhead Red wine. It is usually a busy place so be prepared to wait a few minutes but nothing crazy as it is a small place. While you are waiting (or even once seated) ask about the mural painted on the wall and ask for the paper that shows who is who in the painted scene from Marine Corps history. I recommend Tun Tavern if you're in need of lunch during a visit to the NMMC. It's nothing stellar, but then neither is the actual Tun Tavern in Philadelphia. The small rustic room in which the tavern is housed seems to be artificially carved out of a larger, more modern facility. (Oh yeah . . . it is.) I recommend taking a table rather than a seat at the bar. The cramped quarters mean that a lot of noisy kitchen work gets handled right under the nose of bar patrons. Unfortunately, the serving personnel seem to think they're working in a larger space and tend to yell unnecessarily. Among the more appealing menu items are a venison burger and a crabcake sandwich.
